Sergio Mendes... Herb Alpert... Great talents... My parents had all their records... Grew up with this great music by these great musos... Thanks gentlemen...
Happy birthday Herb. You are a great singer, trumpeter and person. Person. Amazing talent you have. Thank you also for signing Karen and Richard Carpenter to your a&m label. Happy birthday herb
Happy Birthday to Herb Alpert coming up on 3/31! I finally got to see him in San Diego, CA! My love for the Tijuana Brass started with my Dad coming home from work and playing all his albums. I have most all of them and treasure every one and the memories they bring.
A great artist has died. Mendes died on September 5, 2024, at the age of 83, in a hospital in Los Angeles. He was surrounded by his wife and longtime musical collaborator, Gracinha Leporace. His death was attributed to complications related to Long COVID. May his memory be a blessing.
What a great dimension this man, Mendes, gave us all in his music and music arrangements of other songs!! He made songs way better! The very best as is also Herb Alpert!! Both top of the mountain! We all still play all their music! Sorry to lose Sergio!
I've always loved the voice of Lani Hall who helped to make the distinctive sound of Brazil '66. Seven years after this video was made she and Herb Alpert were married, a match made in heaven.
Thanks Herb channel for sharing that great moment. Takes me right back to being a little kid in the 60s -- I bet I watched Hollywood Palace that night because I was probably one of the greatest preschool fans the TJB had in '67. This is an unforgettable song as well that has always moved me emotionally. I ask blessings on Sergio, Herb and Lani and anybody else on that stage still with us.
As a 14 year old black kid stuck in someplace called Moses Lake, Washington while my dad was in Vietnam I was rocking Jimi Hendrix and James Brown and Joplin and all the music the 60s was exploding with and one day I came across Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66 on the local AM station and became obsessed with their sound. I tore up downtown stores until I found their album and wore it out. I never lost my love for them or music that featured the rythmns of Brazil especialy during the 70s Jazz fusion era
With utmost respect to Sergio Mendes and the men in Brasil ‘66, I think it was mainly those girls that made them so outrageously popular. The combination of their beauty, their voices, those dresses and their dancing was the WOW factor! People were mesmerized watching them…and then Lani’s voice! WOW! 😍 Of course, Sergio was smart enough to CHOOSE the girls and the music, so it never would’ve happened without him! When I think that, without Sergio, the world may have never seen or heard of Lani Hall, I’m so glad things worked out like they did. Thank you, Sergio…and thank you, Lord! The world was very lucky they all came together as they did. And now we know…the REST of the story! 😏😃
@@mikeymutual5489: Some people had these things called “televisions“ back then and could actually watch them on those things! Can you believe it? Sorry you never had the opportunity. 😏
This song. This song... Mr. Mendes' brilliant fingers on the keyboard -- his bringing of the gorgeous Brazilian rhythms -- Lani Hall's exquisitely haunting voice. All that, plus all the little nuts and bolts and musical cookie crumbs have been a permanent part of my life since I first heard it in 1967. It carries me away, and it gives me goosebumps. Occasionally, Miss Hall's soaring solo brings me to happy tears. Real magic must have taken place during the creation of this recording at A&M's studios all those years ago. I honestly doubt that that singular group of musicians ever surpassed the heights achieved in just this one song. Thank you Sergio, thank you Lani, thank you Herb and Jerry, and thanks to the rest of the musical ensemble. You will never know the times that you have gotten me through -- you are all a part of my DNA.
I was born in November 1966 and part of my childhood was enriched by these two geniuses. They were wonderful years where, thanks to my father, I was lucky enough to grow up listening to this. Today, at 57 years old, I am excited to remember what I have inside me and what I took to be who I am...
Herb Alpert is a legend both in talent and how he handled his record label company. I haven't met him in person but his amazing personality radiates in films and videos.
In 1967, when this performance happened, I was a freshman in college. And my favorite group was Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66. And I went to see them play at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. A memorable evening. They were great. You can do the math as far as how old I am, and how old they are too. :) Always loved them. Bought all their albums along the way. Lani Hall here, who's always had an unbelievably great voice, became Herb Alpert's wife in 1974. And one of the first albums we bought a year earlier was !!Going Places!! by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Number one album on the Billboard Pop Albums (Billboard 200). Always loved their music too.
This band Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66 along with Herb Albert & The Tijuana Brass, all time favorites. Going Out of My Head, beautiful song written by Teddy Randazzo.
I never had the opportunity in the 60s as a youngster, to see Sergio and this group. However, I will never forget their sound, their style, and how I thought they were so groovy to have that year in their name (‘66). RIP Sergio Also I will never forget Herb Alpert either and never knew he married a Brazil66 singer. Beautiful couple.
Sergio Mendez (1941-2024) he and his group "Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66" a musical force after 1966 and beyond. I became a fan of his then. I still have his vynil albums. So many hits like Mais que nada, The Look of Love, Night and Day, With the little help from my friend, Fool on the hill, going out of my head, Daytripper. I love the way the did Scarborough Fair and others. Rest in peace.
While the men seem quite likeable and of course both very famous, it is the female singers here that are the focus of this performance and make the song what it is, fabulous. Someone mentioned one of their names in the comments, glad for that, but it’s tragic how so many women’s contributions and artistry are simply ignored, true in the 60s and today in less obvious ways. Great song.
