      Maybe you could say Molly saved him in the most important way by producing almost everyone that shows him love at first. Which ultimately is the only thing that stops hairy from going down the dark path himself later on in life and why Dumbledore sees the Weasley family as so extremely crucial to Harry's bigger picture.

    Going with the theory that Harry, Snape, and Voldermort represent the 3 Peverell Brothers, and Dumbledore represents Death itself (Harry greeted Death as an "old friend" at King's Cross, with Harry being the brother who used the cloak to hide from Death), wouldn't it make sense that Voldermort feared Dumbledore, if Voldermort feared the concept of death, and Dumbledore represented Death?

    To everyone else he was Voldemort, even past teachers like Slughorn saw him as Lord Voldemort except for Dumbledore. To him he was always Tom Riddle the boy he met in the orphanage. Voldemort feared his indifference and the lack of fear he had had towards him. Voldemort lived off fear and even began to falter when Harry didn't seem to fear him as well.

    All good points but I think Voldemort fears Dumbledore because he knows Dumbledore is miles better. If you read the chapter “The Only One He Ever Feared” it becomes “PRETTY OBVIOUS” that Voldy is fighting to kill and Dumbledore is toying with him like a dad playing basketball against his 8 year old son.
    “‘We both know that there are other ways of destroying a man, Tom,' Dumbledore said calmly, continuing to walk towards Voldemort as though he had not a fear in the world, as though nothing had happened to interrupt his stroll up the hall. 'Merely taking your life would not satisfy me, I admit-'
    ‘There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!' snarled Voldemort.
    ‘You are quite wrong,' said Dumbledore, still closing in upon Voldemort and speaking as lightly as though they were discussing the matter over drinks.’”
    The only reason Harry was the chosen one was because Dumbledore would not be alive-due his own carelessness-to see Voldemort die.

      While these are great points, Dumbledore does specify that there are powers Voldemort posseses that Dumbledore could only dream of. I think Dumbledore is slightly powerful but not by as much as you think. Speaking to snakes can be useful, flying is useful. Then again, what’s the point of flying if you can just apparate. We see a multitude of extreme and dangerous enchantments and curses Voldemort used throughout the series. Voldemort was literally the most evil wizard to walk the earth, so I think he makes a strong case for himself. I just think that Dumbledore is wiser because he dabbled in both dark and light arts. Voldy only cared for dark powers and only knew about as such. Not to mention Voldy had no ability to love. If Voldemort stayed on the light side, he probably would’ve become the most powerful wizard ever in history. At the end of the day tho this is all fiction

    I don't disagree, but I think a big part you missed is that Dumbledore is at his core, a better chess player/wedding planner than Voldemort. He fears him because he is the only person who has ever really been able to consistently outsmart him and thwart his plans. He may also fear his belief in the power in love, but fear of his beliefs alone probably wouldn't keep him from attacking Harry as long as Dumbledore is around or keep him from Hogwarts. Also even though he has horcruxes, it's still a huge pain for him to come back again, so he definitely fears being bested in a duel with Dumbledore and the inconvenience that would cause him

    My theory on why Voldemort feared Dumbledore (aside from respect as an equal) was that it stemmed from when they first met. A bullying, thieving, lying, spiteful child is told by an adult that the behavior won’t be tolerated, then said adult flicks (as far as the kid know) a twig, and sets the kids wardrobe ON FIRE, but leaving no damage. I'd argue that he fears Dumbledore because DD knows his past. He's spent decades murdering his way to become the most evil and feared wizard ever, crafting a legend so strong that people still fear to say his personally-chosen alias even after a decade of being "dead". And he's terrified that Dumbledore is going to replace all of that, to let it slip that the unstoppable, immortal monster is just some dude named Tom. He doesn't fear Dumbledore killing Voldemort the Wizard, he's scared of Dumbledore shattering Voldemort the Persona.

He was afraid of everything he didn't control or could kill. He rarely did anything himself, unless he knew with certainty that he would be able to effortlessly handle it. His entire power base was built on the supposed belief that he was always all powerful. And Dumbledore couldn't be bullied, manipulated, or forced into submission by him and that's why Riddle feared. What I find funny about these books is that pure bloods are about three or four generations away from just not existing at all. The amount of inbreeding would lead down Marvolo's line, and there would be less and less ability to control magic. So, love would keep magic alive, and hate and xenophobia will lead to the death of magic as a whole

      No, there are too many purebloods for that. There are at least the sacred 28 familys plus any other "random" pureblood marriages and that's (I think) only in Great Britain maybe Europe. There are far more purebloods if you consider the rest of the world.
      So in the real world you could compare purebloods to nobles and they inbread for centuries. Granted there were some genetic problems, but not to the extend of "not existing at all" and especially not in only 3-4 generations

    Hey, Brothers! I left a review on your podcast on Spotify, but hopefully I can elaborate a bit more here on a theory I thought up a couple days ago.
    Listening to CoS, Dumbeldore is described as "X-raying" Harry in his office after the attack on Nick and Justin. It's also implied in SS that Dumbledore can see Harry through the invisibility cloak. Lastly, the amount of times that Dumbledores intense blue eyes are described is quite suspicious, especially considering the rarity of having rad hair and blue eyes (.17 percent of the population according to a quick search). This all leads me to my theory:
    Dumbeldore created the eye for Moody.
    Sorry if this is already established but everything I read said that the origins of Moody's eye were unmentioned. The fact that it is often described as "lightning blue" just as intense as Dumbeldores eyes are always described leads me to draw some connection. Perhaps Dumbeldore himself has one of these creations in his own eye socket? Moody's eye has very similar powers mentioned with his eye such as seeing through Harry's invisibility cloak after Crouch steals from Snape and borrows the map, seeing through structures and cabinets in Grimmauld Place (the boggart).
    I'd love to see a video or a mention in the podcast on your thoughts! Keep up the great content, Brothers!

    Honestly, the Dumbledore's Horcrux theory still holds up pretty well.
    The only reason it got shot down so hard is because there's supposedly some super evil and disgusting method to creating a horcrux that Dumbledore would never be willing to do, despite this never being mentioned in the books and is in fact directly contradicted by Harry being an accidental horcrux.

    In my head canon, I thought it might have to do with legilemency/oclumency. I've often wondered if great wizards battled on two fronts: mind and wand. Voldemort thought his invulnerability lay in his secrets while Dumbledore is a pretty open book, so he really only stands to lose ground from a direct confrontation. For instance, I like the idea that Dumbledore only became aware of the horcruxes in the sixth book because he had fought Voldemort in person to end the fifth book perhaps even learning of the ring.

    I believe that the chocolate frog cards are the biggest asset that Dumledore has, in regards to information gathering. They are like, mini magical portraits. When harry opened his first chocolate frog card, it just happened to be Albus. Then he was gone. Ron said, "well what do you expect, he can't hang around all day." So to me, it seems that Albus can use the chocolate frog cards as he does with the portraits of past Headmasters. Just a theory & my opinion. What do ya think about it?

    Being wrong feels a *lot* like a part of you died. And just imagine, being wrong on such a deep level would be quite painful. Voldemort's ideology is what compels him, so in a sense it is him. For Dumbledore to be right would be the ultimate form of death--not just physical but his entire worldview and legacy.

    What always bothered me was the significance of Slughorns memory. It was a main point of book 6, and all Dumbledore wanted with it is the actual number of horcruxes. He had to know that its horcruxes before. But assuming he ended up making exactly that number is just guesswork, how would they know? Seems like way too risky to just assume that. He could have just as well made 5 or 15, for all Dumbledore knows. And the plan is ruined if they miss a single one. Am I missing sth?

    • @ObsessiveGeek
      @ObsessiveGeek ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He knows the fortitude of Tom Riddle well, he’s not the type to alter his plans.
      He makes a goal and sets out to achieve it.
      Dumbledore already strongly suspected the number he was going for, just wanted confirmation as like you say he didn’t want to miss any out.
      And of course he already knows it’s one more than Voldemort intended to create too.
      Harry is the best person to go after the others as he’s in a position to know when Voldemort begins thinking about the location of any others once he’s aware they’re in danger so even if they were extras that were created Harry would have discovered them through Voldemort himself.

    I think dueling is the least of Dumbledore's threat. He is a better strategist, hides his intentions well, has impeccable timing, has always been able to stay a step ahead of Tom's plans and unravel them. He cannot be bribed, tempted with power, controlled or intimidated. Dubledore is an ineffable being in his mind, making him fear the unknown, just like he fears death.

    Interesting theory! There is a fanfic, The Transmogrification of a Not-Yet-Lord, that offers another idea that I think you would enjoy. It challenges the initial assumptions Dumbledore and the headmistress of the orphanage make about Tom, that Tom was bullied first, and the outbursts were the result of fear and accidental magic. That rather than placing Tom with a magical family, he sent him back to a muggle orphanage, every summer, during WW2, when London was being bombed. That Tom found the chamber to try to hide at Hogwarts during the summer and Myrtle was an accident. That he fears Dumbledore because Dumbledore twisted everything he did into something evil, which became a self fulfilling prophecy.

  • @spandan9127
    @spandan9127 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think in the books its mentioned that Dumbledore always saw right through him. Since the start. Since he started at hogwarts, Dumbledore had eyes on him even though he was just a professor. Tom Riddle I believe confirms this in Chamber of Secrets to Harry. Now, Dumbledore was at his peak when Voldy started at hogwarts. He could read Tom's mind and knew that theres so much evil. Only mistake of dumbledore was that he believed he can give love to Tom and change his heart. During his last years he probably HAD to learn Occlumency to protect himself against Dumbledore. When he learns that he defeated Grindlewald the most powerful dark wizard of that time, he had developed actual fear of Dumbledore. He knew if he were to beat Dumbledore, it would not be direct duel. Also I believe Voldemort tried coming back to hogwarts many times during first wizarding war but failed due to sheer presence of Dumbledore. This could be the reason we hear the words utter through out the series: "Hogwarts is the safest place while Dumbledore here." or "With Dumbledore gone, no one is safe at the school" (This one was many times whenever Dumbledore decided to "go away" like in 2nd book).

Im glad you made the video because it puts it in writing and clears the theme up for me - helping me enjoy HP even more, but this is more of a very interesting interpretation/ analysis of the story. Maybe part of the fear comes from Voldemort fearing Dumbledore's power, when he did not know what it would be like to lose his body upon being killed. Even though he knew his horcruxes would keep him alive, prior to his downfall in Godric's Hollow, he would have probably still feared the concept. And after his resurrection, he knew for sure that that was not something he'd want to experience again, possibly further cementing his fear for Dumbledore.

    You also missed the point that, in the end, dumbledore still was the one who defeated voldemort ... he skillfully moved around everyone else and the events (often many years in advance), to bring the ending that happened. The only part he never planned ahead of time, was Draco owning the elder wand. even the memories, were carefully set up for harry to see and act on .... He knew it all ahead of time ... even allowing voldemort to kill harry, would simply create a new round of his mothers protection for all the others. The prophecy simply pointed dumbledore to who was gonna be the chess piece he eventually needed to win the game. Voldemort had lost before the second game even started ... and it was 100% over as soon as he used Harry's blood to remake his body, hence the look of triumph, and the removal of the only real risk of failure.

  • @littlefoot5013
    @littlefoot5013 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually, the prophesy states that neither can live while the other survives. It's totally possible that Voldemort could have killed Harry, but that someone could have finished off his other Horcruxes and killed him in a duel. It would still fulfill the prophecy, just as if some bad dark witch or wizard were to off Harry as an Auror in the year 2033 or something, Harry's defeat of Voldemort in 1998 would STILL fulfill the prophecy. In fact, Harry intentionally told Neville about the snake Horcrux, or at least to take it out, right before he assumed he was going to die, figuring "neither would live and neither would survive.". Harry intended after his Horcrux was gone and Voldemort let his guard down enough for Neville to take out the snake Horcrux, that Voldemort would be defeated by someone at the Battle of Hogwarts.
    So, Voldemort could have killed Harry in year 5, but Dumbledore still found out about the Horcruxes and destroyed them, or as many as he could, telling Snape about the rest before his death from the cursed Ring, and Snape could have destroyed the Horcruxes and killed Voldemort. It's theoretically possible, however, that Dumbledore, since he knew about the Horcruxes since Harry's 2nd year, and knew they were in the plural since Harry's 4th year, that, possibly, he could have destroyed them all and defeated Voldemort in a duel, assuming he wasn't done in by the Ring by putting it on.
    However, now that I think of it, the hope Dumbledore inspires, his power and hardness to defeat (which could prove bad for any Death Eaters that ran into him. Other than Snape, whom Dumbledore LET kill, nobody but Draco ever got so much as one up on him (and Draco just disarmed him.) None of the Death Eaters dared go for him directly, save Draco, who was forced to. And Dumbledore also lead the Order of the Phoenix, the main enemies of the Death Eaters.
