I think with the potion in the cave, Dumbledore specifies something about needing the "intent" to drink it - the potion somehow will only let you scoop it up if you intend to drink it and not try to cheat the system. It might also refill if you don't actually drink it
My head canon is that he is actually seeing socks. Harry finds the mirror during Christmas holiday(at least that’s what I remember. Been a while since I read the 1st book). Dumbledore eventually finds him and when Harry asks he says socks. In the mirror it’s Christmas time and his sister is giving him a pair of socks while Aberforth is drunkenly singing carols in the background and Grindlewald is shaking his head in exasperation with a smile at Dumbledore’s sentimentality
They did change it up slightly. Ben used to ask J the questions and he would have to come up with it on the spot, and then compare the two answers. I guess they changed it to make it more coherent/cohesive, but it takes away the "game" aspect.
@tylarjackson7928 I may be wrong, but by the time they stopped doing it, I do remember it being in this format. Obviously the graphics are different, but I do remember it being this way, and the very first one was - I'm pretty sure - also J by himself. Totally willing to be proven wrong though. 😊
@@Miss_Mythyou are right. The Ben asking J was new format used once and it was the most recent. Old ones were just J googling and answering it... some answers did feel unscripted 😂
Maybe the question about why Dumbledore sounds different is referring to how Jim Dale narrates him in the audiobooks...in the first book he gives him a higher, more nasally voice. For the second book it's lower and sounds more tired. But for the rest of the series it's a calm, low, and measured voice. He just had to find the right voice. In book four, while Harry is at the death eaters trial in the penseive, he gives Bellatrix a very low female voice, but from book five on its high with an accent that really fits the character better.
People seriously thought Dumbledore sees socks in the Mirror? Harry realizes after a couple pages (and less than an in-universe hour) that he was lying, and this is explicitly brought up once again in Deathly Hallows when Harry recalls that the only personal question he ever asked Dumbledore was one that he was sure wasn't answered truthfully. This isn't even a "the movie tainted our collective memory of the books" thing, the sock question never made it into the film.
i think so bcs malfoy was stalling and he stalled long enough for snape to come, and since snape had made the unbreakable vow he wouldve killed him either way
I had watched almost all your old Google autofill videos, even the one about bagels. Lol. Just seeing the title of this video and seeing it was new, I was like, "yay! 🙂"
Thank you for putting the sock shoutout at the end! When the channel was new-ish, I was a freshman animation major in college, and would put on the SCB videos for my all-night art project marathons. The sock audio is so ingrained in my brain, it took years for me to stop expecting to hear it at the end of videos
As a nomaj, What does Jacob see while inside of Hogwarts? Is there a point where the illusion no longer affects you? "Why is everyone sitting in the middle of these ruins, eating?"
For the filch employ one i like the theory that says that he is not technically employing FILCH but protecting miss Norris, being in this theory that she was a maledictus that ended up transformed into a cat instead of a snake like nagini and they had a relation (whether husbands, twins or whatever it depends) with filch being the only one that understood her even in that form (probably being that miss norris helped the order of the phoenix in the first war or what you like to think)
Actually, the main theory on why Dumbledore hired Lockhart was: because Lockhart took credit for something someone Dumbledore knew did. And wanted to expose him. Since the DADA position was cursed, he would get exposed as a fraud.
Dumbeldore doesn’t seem like the kind of person to hire a teacher just for the sake of exposing the teacher, especially for one year of learning and especially for the students taking OWLS and NEWTS
@hamster4810 Actually, I can see Dumbledore doing that. Remember, he knew the job was jinxed by voldemort. Lockhart wasn't much of a teacher anyway, he was just an egotistical narcissist. All he mainly did was brag about stuff he claimed to have done in his books. Which I found really annoying. I hate Lockhart second to Umbridge.
Im with dumbedore. one can never have enough socks. I esecially LOVE the feeling of putting on a brand new pair of socks. When they are totally all soft and nice and new without any pilling or anything like that . just feels so nice to put your feet into new socks.
Was there ever an answer to what happened to Dumbledore's memories in the pensieve after he died? Did they disappear or stay? And if they stayed, were they dumped out so the next Headmaster could use the magical artifact? Does having memories from multiple headmasters in the same pensieve cause problems with its use, such as an inability to differentiate between which memory belongs to which headmaster? Or would the memories bleed together over time? Do memories not contained with a brain or magicsl container stick around or immediately disappear forever? So many questions...
I believe that the deluminator was supposed to take them to dumbledore‘s tomb to get the wand. Also, why was Wormtail listening through doors. I believe JK was writing plots around those random things and they were never written in/they were unfinished
Filch actor David Bradley was cast in the Doctor Who spinoff "The Sarah Jane Adventures", then a character in the Doctor Who Episode "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship". He was then cast as the first Doctor Who actor William Hartnell in the BBC docudrama "An Adventure in Space and Time". He later portray the First Doctor himself in a surprise appearance in the Doctor Who episode The Doctor Falls, and later Twice Upon a Time.
While we’re talking about blasts from the past we want to see more of, PLEEEEEEASE do another J vs. Ben blind drawing challenge! (Also more THESE SOCKS ARE AMAZINGs because I really miss those.)
18:15 My theory is that Harry literally just embarrassed both Dumbledore and Hogwarts in front of the entire Wizarding World. Made Dumbledore look incompetent, and just jeopardized his entire plan to have Harry take out Voldemort. He's a little upset about the whole situation, so he raises his voice. Yes, the book sais "Calmly" but it also sais that Winky and Peeves exist.. But we didn't get those either. It's not a direct adaptation.
Just read The Lost Riddle (HBP) and I wanna point out that Dumbledore didn't have his eye constantly on Tom since the first time the CoS opened but actually from their very first meeting in the orphanage. I forgot how creepy that scene is.
About the Deluminator, I don't know if you ever talked about it but I came across a theory several times implying that it might be useful for finding Grindelwald and eventually, defeat him. It wasn't easy for Voldemort to find Harry during DH; Albus may have this difficulty too, as Grindelwald might have wanted to avoid confrontation with Dumbledore during the war - especially with the broken blood pact situation, even though he had the Elder Wand*. It may be useful for Dumbledore to be able to locate him too. Whether the Deluminator was created with this aim in mind, or if it was about his family Albus first thought of AND then realised it could be useful for finding Grindelwald, is up to interpretation. There's also the "love" part that, I suppose, is up to debate, but I think that the Mirror of Erised scene (FB2) combined with other scenes of FB3, especially the dual, the beating heart moment, the final proposal of Grindelwald before leaving (I was never your enemy), etc, kind of implies that some complicated feelings are still lingering here, hence the possible use of the Deluminator. Anyway, just some thoughts *: in the past, it was established that Dumbledore AVOIDED the fight with Grindelwald; but the retcons are quite numerous (that dual in FB3, for instance), including Albus' motivations. Ariana is barely mentioned in the FB franchise and somehow, she was supposed, according to the books, to be THE thing that kept Albus back confronting Grindelwald (or more precisely, confronting his own responsibility and guilt about Ariana's death). The blood pact, and how is treated Ariana, make me conclude that Albus' motivations changed and FB3, imo, shows eventually that Dumbledore wants to fight Grindelwald. Still imo, it's a poor change, but it's also something to take into account when we think of what might have happened during the 1935-1945 period (as you underlined, we probably won't have it depicted any time soon).
@@SuperCarlinBrothers after the video I just saw the autofill playlist and saw you did Voldemort already maybe snaps or Ron or hermione, hagrid, malfoy? So many characters from Harry Potter to play around with in these videos. Flood your channel with content of them!😂
I thought it was hinted that Dumbledore actually saw himself holding the hallows in the mirror? That's why he is so ashamed of it and is so impressed that Harry sees his family
I like to think in my own head-cannon that the reason Dumbledore mentions socks and knitting patterns so much is because the remind him of Arianna. I imagine that as a nervous obscurial she would need to find ways to calm and distract herself without magic, hence knitting, and that she probably got to be rather good at it, and probably knit the whole family socks… and Dumbledore remembers that fondly. Just my own humble opinion.
In the book someone mentioned scooping it doesn't work, and Im pretty sure Harry tried, to dump it out. As for conjure water. Harry tried Aquamenti, but the water vanishes. Pretty sure there is an enchantment in the area that makes such spells fail.
Albus Dumbledore: Like Superman, proving the age-old Axiom "Never confuse kindness with weakness". Because so many of the Death Eaters assume he is a doddering old fool when they refer to him but would be proven wrong in a heartbeat if they ever threatened him or a student.
I'd say he has a very good reason for not knowing it's a basilisk: it doesn't kill anyone. Basilisks are famous for their lethality. Petrification is entirely different.
Somebody asked why dumbledore's voice changed' are they referring to when dumbledore showed up at Harry's trial' and was like "albus Percival wolfric BRIAN! dumbledore"
Yeah my problem with the whole "DATDA teaching position is cursed requiring a new teacher every year" makes no sense to me as i could've sworn either in the movie Philosophers stone or the OG 1997(i think? Im honestly not sure when the first HP cane out) first book says that Quirell gas been the DATDA teacher for 12 years which wouldn't make sense if its supposed to be cursed from the time Dumbledore refused Voldemort the position which was before Harry was even born.
I would love a “why or how does Tom Riddle” google autofill! Despite him being one of the most evil and notorious dark wizards, I still think the character of Tom Riddle himself is very interesting and mysterious, therefore making him one of my favorites to learn about. There’s a lot about Tom that I wish we knew more of and I would love to hear all of your theories about him!
On the socks situation on the mirror of erised, could dumbledore be truthful, but not 100% truthful? He IS holding a pair of socks, but given to him by Ariana/his mother WITH SPECIAL KNITTING PATTERNS?
Ah, the Dumbledore drinking the potion segment has always irked me in a way that is now sadly canon. Voldy has a good amount of control over or at least incentive to not be on the bad side of the Dementoids, that he would have access and possibly have theme secrete or boil down their "essence".
