My only advise, if you really want to base have that old school style stay away from flock and static grass. Just glue sand, paint it with goblin green and drybrush with yellow. That how we get it done in early 90's.
I was really excited to get stuck into this project and the palnning and research was a lot of fun taking a trip down memory lane. I started with the gloomspite spearhead box.
11:45 that goblin green paint is now sold under the Coat D'arms brand, GW used to use the same supplier for their paints back in the day so apparently the formulation is the same. IIRC Two Thin Coats' Goblinoid Green is almost a 1:1 match for it too 👍
There are so many great things to pick out here! The banner, how well the contrast paints came out, the new minis in 'red era' style, the magnetised movement trays, encouraging people to look at the older editions for inspiration! Seeing a Warhammer fantasy video done in your channel's style is great. Especially 4th edition inspired night goblins, which is exactly when and where I started! Cheers!
Thank you very much and thank you for the very generouse donation, I'll be sure to give you a shout out in the next video :) I started this project back in March and I've loved every minute of it.
nice vid , i seen a video were they painted a gobbo's skin yellow and later covered the skin with biel tan green to change the colour...works really well
Originaly I was going to use Styrene rod but I managed to find a spare pole that was on a krule boy sprue. the cross bar is just made out of a couple of the night goblin hand weapons that look like clubs. honestoy though don't worry too much as a banner is going to cover everthing up any way
Hi, amazing job ! they really give this old vibe style , i love it ! I am just recently back to the hobby, I intend to make a old world army but is it allowed to use AOS figurines as substitute for TOW characters ? Or would this be illegal in tournaments ?
welcome back to the hobby :D yes ofcourse you can use AOS for Old world, its what I do, i prefer to use the newer more dynamic miniatures. if your talking official GW events then as along as the miniatures exist in one of their ranges then its allowed
Hi Michael, I’m just getting back into warhammer with the last figures I touched being made of lead/alloy! I really enjoy your approach and thorough run-throughs of what you do. It’s really helpful and much appreciated!
beautiful gobbos!! they turned out great and the advice is great does thinning a contrast paint with water retain its properties of coverage? contrast (speed paints) don't seem to function the same as paints thinned with water in my experience. you have a very noticeable smile that you make when you stop talking at the end of each clip of you talking. kind of distracting. Not sure if its an intentional part of your editing or not.
I'm not likely to do a phobos tutorial. I would paint them how I'm done the armour for the terminators. I feel there is enough content you should be able to paint them no problem :)
Honestly thats what this video is all about, helping you build and paint an army like this yourself. Do your research and make a plan mainly. when painting you just need to pick what contrast paints you think would work and then choose a lighter colour to highlight. Then base them :D
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam yeah hehe, I mean, I have nothing against age of sigmar, there's clearly a bunch of people who enjoy it, but "the old world" was my third game, after battlefleet gothic, and 40k, and I still love square bases and ranked infantry and all the cool monsters and war machines.
as a fellow NG player I got to warn you that your block of goblins are way way too small. 50 models is the smallest unit you want. I tend to go for 100 model blocks of spear men and 50 for archers, all with fanatics in them. I think the one that had Skarsnick in it was almost 200 units large and would still have a hard time against elves in a fight.
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam that what i do too but small units can break when they fight each other or if anything really happens a unit of 50 can get shot at least before they break. unless you play against people who measure everything so you release your fanatics and just sit back
I Love this so much! I really need to ask how you made the banner pole on your BSB too! Did you make it using plastic/brass rods or parts from the Goblin kit?
thank you very much. I found a pole on a krule boy sprue I had lying around and glued a couple of the night goblin hand weapons to it for the posts at the top. you could probbaly find a lot of stuff that would work. the banner is going to be hiding it anyway. I was kust going to use a styrene tube but found the pole on a sprue instead
Is it just me or does the new format of TH-cam videos ruin the videos description? I can't see any of the links TableTopReady has put in their description.
Good to see you're collecting the BEST army for Warhammer Fantasy! Update: Though I must confess that my favourite Night Goblin models were the ones that came in the Battle for Skull Pass box set.
I think everything is stalled at the moment while they figure out their logistics. They've really strung out this AOS release, its crazy. Hopefully improves soon.
Great video. I’d add a couple of factors in choosing an army: more historical (eg Empire - Holy Roman Empire inspire) or fantastical (like your goblins); and model count. Do you like the idea of a horde of goblins or would you rather have fewer elite troops (eg Chaos)? Obviously that will affect the nature of the hobby project.
Splendid job, you nailed the retro look and you can tell this is a work of love! Ive rekindled my passion for Warhammer with my own Greenskins Army and must say I feel you, this hobby is awesome!
Another great video, thank you. I always had a soft spot for Night Goblins for all the reasons you gave. I always hated that goblin green basing but it didn't stop me from doing it 😅 I still have a pot of it and that awful flock! That being said that the basing did 'underline' the paint job and gave a certain 'magical realm' vibe to the figures so what the heck, let's dig out that old goblin green paint 😊😊 Thanks again for the inspiring video!
Seeing this in my recommended excited me to no end. Real shame it's not a popular game in my not-so-local shop. Nice army, also I thought you had a cat on your lap, Blofeld style, before I realized it was just a furry microphone lol
There is a cat in the background in some of the shots :P I think when Games Workshop have figured out that they need to bring more armies out, it will become more popular. but it's been huge otherwise, people love it, its my main go to
Dude!!! This is fire! The old world (Fantasy) was where I got into the hobby back in the early 2000s, these sets bring back some solid memories and will be getting some of the Orc boys again!
Makes me regret selling my night goblins from the skull pass set :( Best £20 I ever spent and I actually painted everything. Actually hilarious seeing the fanatics fired out of the goblin blocks and smashing much more expensive units apart. Good times.

I don't. that is a tile that games workshop use to seel with static grass glued to it. so you could just get a board to what ever size you want to PVA static grass to it :P its simple

Goblins! I love the Fanatics! Solid choice, and another brilliant video :)

awsome. i hope you both have lot sof fun and good times
have you looked into warcolors nostalgia 88/94 line of paint ive been using them for a while and they are great

F yeah bro that’s exactly how we did it in the 90s “goblin green” the official green for bases 😂
Nah a little bit of static grass in the odd place can look great, but flock is shite I agree.
Amazing feat, so much oldschool love
Didn't expect to see you here, your paint charts are great. Keep doing what you're doing, bro.
Wild Stahly sighting!
Not a single oldhammer model present
I got into fantasy back in the early 2000s with 6th edition and this was a great oppertunity to relive those memories ha
Your greenskins army is so 90s and 4th Edition Warhammer Fantasy! You are only lacking the Doomdivers and I have 12 of them hahahaahaha...
12 doomdivers? thats a of misfires haha I will be getting some myself though don't worry

a contrast paint should work well enough thinned with water. it won't dry as quickly though and can cause it too be more patchy and pool in areas
