    Help I've lost my embouchure because I been playing Alto and tenor saxophone and now my tone is weird, my mouth feel weird after playing, all of my low notes are harder to play, and all of the mid toned notes on my tenor joint (including my low B, Bb,and A notes) sound extremely airy. Please help me school starts in a few days.

      No worries. Practice bassoon with a soft bottom jaw- meaning relax it. The bottom lip is pinching around the reed and it can make the sound bright on bassoon. Also go buy yourself a milkshake. When you drink it through a straw- notice how the back of the throat is open- then recreate that feeling when you play bassoon. I will do a full video on this in the next few weeks. Thanks for the idea! :)

    I really need help with my tone , my tone sounds very bad, any tips?

    • @erynoft
      @erynoft  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tone is created by you, your bassoon and your reed. Making sure that all these are working correctly with one another is the key to great tone colors. Have you considered trying Skype lessons? I would be happy to help if you're interested!

      Can you tell me a little bit more about this? It sounds like you may be struggling with the half hole but without more information about what is going wrong I'm a little stuck.

    Hey Eryn, I'm an Oboe player in year 8, I want to start learning the Bassoon because our school does not have a Bassoon player. Do you think it is possible for me to switch, because I know that the embouchure for Bassoon is very different to Oboe. What is your opinion? Thanks

    • @josemanlapaz1560
      @josemanlapaz1560 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I switched from oboe to bassoon in September last year. Eryn's videos helped me out a lot. I'm excelling in my class even though I was first only taught by the Internet and myself. In my opinion, it wasn't that easy switching. If you want a challenge go for it! I'll have to warn you about the tenor register. You will get some fun melodies here but they are challenging. (Eg. Meadowlands arr. by James MacBeth). You will have to get used to the weight of the instrument. (Parts of my left palm turned purple in my first week of playing), the embouchure (I'll start on parts that you do know, start with an oboe embouchure, next open and relax your mouth as if you are whistling but keep your lips pursed, bring the your jaw back. I RECOMMEND YOU TO FIND ANOTHER SOURCE MY WAY IS KINDA CONFUSING ), fingerings (get a good fingering chart, chances are your method book is wrong), the difference between airflow (bassoon require more air than oboe

    • @erynoft
      @erynoft  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure. I know a lot of instrumentalists that double on various instruments. And you are aware they are different- that is key! Keep in mind you will need to read in bass clef but that's a small adjustment. Keep me updated on your progress! 😊

      +Terry Gu I switched from two years of oboe to bassoon in year 9 and have been happily playing my bassoon ever since. I'm studying bassoon at uni now so it's definitely doable! I was a little lucky where bassoon was a lot more natural to me than oboe but the way you use your air is pretty similar and as for the lips, I'm still combating a tight embouchure, almost five years later, but you get used to it.

    hey! i just found your channel yesterday after looking for it for a few months, and i would like to ask you if it would be difficult to learn a bassoon after learning a brass instrument? i've been playing the tuba for nearly two years, and i really want to learn it! i'm afraid that it will be extremely difficult to transition, so i would like your opinion on this! i love you and your channel! U^ェ^U

    • @erynoft
      @erynoft  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awh- thank you so much for watching my videos and keeping up with my bassoon adventures. I took Trombone lessons in pedagogy in college and did just fine playing both bassoon and brass. The bonus is that Tuba is also in Bass Clef, too! The work using all the fingers (especially the thumbs) may be a challenge but I find that if you love it you will stick with it. :) Keep me posted on your bassoon-ing!
