Oh my goodness! I was at the concert where Gustavo Dudamel conducted Rite of Spring with the BSO. It was honestly one of the best experiences of my life. My school band went on a trip to Boston and that was one of our main activities.

@@erynoft Thank you! I think this will help me! If only for entertainment, but maybe for expression too! The Bolero solo has particularly interesting words in my head today as well.. The Tchaik 4 wasn't technically hard but my prof was so sticky with the tuning and my soft pallet and was changing fingerings and EVERYTHING lol.. I appreciate it now, but at the time, I almost cried in his studio! It was my first excerpt. The Bach Cello suite... My new Uni prof when I went off to finish school gave me this... HOW DO YOU BREATHE? She had me just dropping notes, but I felt like it took away from the flow (and being a solo piece, even if it was a repeated note, I felt it was there for a good reason, (I'm good at being wrong ;) ) ) Rubato? I'd love to hear you play it.. hint hint. ;) I haven't asked my current prof to play it yet.

Profesora Eryn en minuto 5:47 eso fue más que una respuesta. ¡ Es emocionante! Gracias.

I love you so much! just quick question what is the MAIN thing that affects your bassoon TONE. I have an overbite but I don’t think that affects my playing although it does hurt putting my lips more forward.

idk my name you body, the bassoon and the reed all combined make the tone. It is worth looking at all 3 rather than just embouchure.

FWIW: My bassoon profs have helped by giving me a critical ear, find one you gel with!!! Also, record yourself. Use voice memo or some other app and listen to yourself. Identify what you hear in your playing that is different from your bassoon heroes, and listen to highly acclaimed performers that you enjoy. Try to match their sound. I'm a student, too, but these are tips I've been given from professional Bassoonists.

You taught this dumb trombonist how to properly play bassoon (with a bit of help from people in my life of course.) I have a similar career goal as your goal in refurbishing old bassoons, as I've noticed I'm more of a fan of repairing instruments than playing, and the ones that I do play are expensive for someone as broke as I am. I use my school's but I'm about tp graduate and go into an apprenticeship alongside online schooling, so not really any chance of continuing to use school instruments. Honestly it scares me cause I don't wanna lose touch with bassoon... or any of my instruments...
