    Thanks for your educated opioid.
    I have settled on EDT for my truck after watching Project Farms independent testing of diesel additives.
    There is a station that I can get 50 cetane at. My ‘03 Duramax really likes it compared to 40. More power, better milage and runs quieter down the highway.

    Great information. Much appreciated. One question: I have a diesel sub-compact tractor that I use year round. I've been considering using Hot Shot's 'Diesel Winter Anti-Gel' during the coldest months, and 'Everyday Diesel Treatment' the rest of the year. Do you have any thoughts or advice in that regard? Thanks.

    That lubricity is all the more important on that Ford Super Duty behind you which uses the Bosch CP.4 HPFP. WIth the change to ULSD in 2007, lubricity was reduced in diesel fuel so that it doesn't meet the wear scar ratings Bosch intended for the CP.4, which otherwise isn't an issue in Europe because they take diesel more seriously and mandate a better overall quality of diesel fuel. However, in the US, you have to restore that lost lubricity and an additive like HSS EDT is an excellent way to do that. I've used Stanadyne and Optilube products and they were great, but what I like best about HSS EDT is that a little goes a long ways.
    While not a fan of biodiesel, B5 can go a long way of restoring that lost lubricity, as well, but that wouldn't be the preferred way to restore your lubricity. Also having a cetane boost means a more efficient combustion resulting in less soot deposit in your EGR and DPF. This translates into less frequent DPF regenerations and that means a longer life out of your SCR system. HSS EDT also helps clean and protect your expensive diesel injectors, prevents corrosion in your fuel system which can destroy your engine, and demuslifies water that may be in your diesel so that it goes into your water separator/filter rather than your engine. HSS EDT also helps stabilize your diesel for longer periods of time which can be crucial if you are forced to run any level of biodiesel because biodiesel is hydroscopic and tends to absorb more water than petroleum diesel.

    Hi there great channel just had a quick question seems like I’ve seen hotshot secret with the anti-gel feature can’t seem to find it locally though I live in Bismarck North Dakota also what do you use for DEF fluid

    • @LivinginAlaska
      @LivinginAlaska  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Hot Shot’s Secret Diesel Winter Anti-Gel can be ordered right from their website if you can’t find it locally. They are good about quick turnaround and ship quickly. As far as DEF fluid goes, I do not put anything in it as it’s not recommended. DEF fluid freezes at 12 degrees and thaws quickly when the temperature rises above that either with normal outside temperatures increasing or your vehicle heating it up. Freezing and thawing typically has no effect on the quality of the fluid. Most people don’t think about DEF freezing and sometimes keep their DEF tank full and DEF fluid expands approximately 7% so it can damage the DEF tank if it freezes and it’s completely full. I never keep mine full in the winter to allow room for expansion just in case.

    Just bought a new gmc baby duramax 3.0l. I want to run an additive and narrowed my research down to using hotshots. Do you think it will help with the whole DEF system? That seems to be the weak spot on all modern diesel’s reliability. Thanks for the video.

    • @LivinginAlaska
      @LivinginAlaska  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for the late response. The DEF system is a totally isolated system separate from Diesel fuel and never comes into contact with the diesel or the engine and is only sprayed into the exhaust system. They do not recommend ever adding an additive to the DEF tank.

    • @AUav8r05
      @AUav8r05 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LivinginAlaska I guess I should have rephrased. I know it can’t be added to DEF. Hot shots advertises that the additive will help reduce soot and the amount of regens. I was just curious if long term it helps overall with these modern diesels. Reduces soot etc which can cause emissions issues down the road.

    • @LivinginAlaska
      @LivinginAlaska  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think so, at that point you would need to have service completed to correct the problem. I think it would help to prevent the issue to begin with since they have done research that indicates it does help reduce regeneration frequency.

    Does it clean def injector

    • @LivinginAlaska
      @LivinginAlaska  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, the DEF injector is in an isolated system which only ever comes in contact with DEF fluid. No additives should ever be added to your DEF tank. DEF fluid is sprayed into your exhaust which lowers the nitrogen oxide emissions in diesel engines. DEF is never mixed with diesel and never injected into the engine.

    • @LivinginAlaska
      @LivinginAlaska  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It doesn’t take much. Just like the additives that make gasoline top tier when you look at the amount that is added to a tank it’s very minimal when you start breaking it down by the gallon. Same with anti-gel added at the station upon receiving of a load of diesel.

      I sent your question over to Hot Shot and this is their response: “Over treating, while not recommended will not result in any harm to the vehicle. We have tested our formula at 4X the recommended treat rate. Overtreating results in diminishing returns. The current performance dose for EDT provides the most economical, and highest performance to cost ratio”
