    My buddy tore apart a Cat at 400,000 miles after rebuild. He always uses EDT. Could not believe how clean the top end was. It looked brand new and polished. We could read the serial numbers on top of the pistons. I had never heard of hot shots until then. I use it now.

    I drive an 08 6.4L PSD. Those familiar know the 6.4L PSD has that crappy active regen system the dumps raw diesel in the exhaust stroke in an effort to burn off the particulates in the DPF, and is the primary driver in very poor MPGs.
    When looking for an additive, I’m looking for a cetane booster and a lubricity additive. As you’ve seen in your test, the cetane boost tends to widen the gap in regen cycles (reduced number of cycles), and is where my primary increase in MPGs come from. Also, ULSD is really dry, so any fuel system will benefit from a lubricity additive.
    I’ve used Power Service Diesel Kleen, but I’m not against giving EDT a chance.

    • @N8Catona
      @N8Catona 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those two are the best diesel additives without breaking your bank. The diesel extreme also works well for a clean up.

  • @N8Catona
    @N8Catona 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What would you recommend? Seems like the hot shot edt is similar to the diesel kleen stuff. The diesel extreme is different since its concentrated for real cleaning. Out of the edt and diesel kleen which would you choose? It does look like the edt will last longer than those diesel kleen bottles and it disperses water unlike diesel kleen.

    #1 I don't buy this for fuel mileage it will never be the same no mater what just because of driving condition each day is totally different.
    2. I buy this treatment because it affordable & easy to use.
    3. It lubes your fuel pump and injectors & cleans & gets water out of tanks & raises your certain level 7 points.
    I do not add fuel without this product due to horrible quality fuel and low cetain & lubricity levels in American fuel stations. Do yourself a favor and buy this stuff its at autoparts stores across america these truck are expensive to repair for neglect your fuel system.

    I need to preface this with I am a diesel mechanic ive been in the industry for about 12 years The truest test you can run is to check your injector balance rates before and after I have experimented over the years and Im less concerned about mileage and more concerned about lubricity I took extensive classes on fuel systems one of my instructors was an engineer at bosch for 30 years he was very knowledgeable the worst thing that has happened to diesel fuel was the change to ultra low sulphur its very difficult to explain but you are dealing with clearances so tight 10ths of 1000th of an inch and tighter in some cases and the pistons in the pump and the nozzles plungers etc. Inside of the high pressure pump and the injectors themselves they rely on the fuel to fill that clearance and create a fluid film to lubricate and prevent steel on steel contact the sulphur was filling that role before but now that its been removed the lifespan of the fuel system has decreased Significantly so the long run life of the fuel system is most important

I’m still running both oil and fuel additive. I can tell when I don’t run the fuel additive. One thing I’ve learned over the years that fuel quality is a must. If EDT works (which I use) why would you need to use the Extreme "a couple times a year"? I run my Ram 3500 as a commercial hauler using 40-60 gals of fuel a day, without turning the engine off. I can tell you head wind, hills, city/highway, and load weight will all drastically affect MPG and Regen, so to see variables does not surprise me. Running 100k miles a year, I use EDT as a preventative maintenance rather than performance enhancer, but if it helps performance so be it.

      It is doing the regen without you knowing. If you have a ram truck I don’t think the truck actually tells you unless you have a 2019 or newer model.

    Your thoughts on just plain marvel magic mystery oil? Heard great for injectors and smooths out the idle I have found that to be true. Your thoughts

    • @OutpostCTD
      @OutpostCTD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried it before and I think it is only to be used on the 5.9 (not safe for dpf). There was a study done about 12 or 13 years ago that showed that it reduced lubricity compared to untreated diesel. It may well clean the injectors though. It may be like seafoam where it would clean injectors while dropping lubricity.

    So after using 2 oz of EDT at every fill up for the past 2 wks (that's 4 fill ups and same interstate commute). I do not notice any power boost and I've lost 1 to 1-1/2 mpg on my fuel mileage. Ill be swapping back to my good ole Diesel Kleen.

    there is not a fuel additive on the planet that will increase fuel economy 1 centilla more than the OEM promised the day the vehicle was sold new. Period end of story.

      SMH. You’ve clearly not done enough research. I’ve gotten 60+ MPG out of my TDI. It’s rated for 40. I wasn’t hypermiling.

      @@nathanielfuentes5294 Have you ever taken a physics class? or even a science class? The btu's are not in the fuel to achieve what you claim. The fact is there is nothing that can be added to the fuel that will improve fuel economy 1/10 of 1 percent more than the original eq1uipment manufacturer claims on the day the vehicle is sold new. Nothing. If you believe otherwise? I have some beach front property for sale on the moon. The fact is the best your vehicle or anybody else's vehicle is going to run is on the day it is sold new. After that it is all downhill. You lose fuel economy over time. That is just FACTS

      @ox-cetane4887 Bahahaha. You can't get an applied math degree without physics classes, genius. You're also speaking out of your ass with this BTU BS. Let's not pretend all diesel engines are the same efficiency rating or that there aren't external factors that affect power output and fuel economy.
      Nobody said a fuel additive magically makes more fuel economy. I said that it's possible to get more than the EPA estimated fuel economy out of a car. This was shown on the TDI Beetle when an engineer added an ugly ass wing to the car for aerodynamics. My car getting roughly 50% over its rated mpg. And I remember an Altima Coupe we modified back in 2009 that got 5mpg over EPA estimates after we tweaked the electrical system.
      I've been in thr car industry for over 20 years and have done lots of MPG modifications over the years. You're arguing with the wrong person.

    Interesting results
    What could be an effect on your trials is weather, outside temp and tire pressure and adding a passenger or other weight to vehicle. it's difficult to get a perfect test on a short term trial in real world driving but I think you provided a great video. Many thanks. I recently started using Hot Shots products and have had positive results. 🍺🥨🍺
