I like project farm, I do, the comparisons he does do give a lot of useful insight but we still have to use our critical thinking with this stuff and also realize there are whole physics and chemistry specialties dedicated to understanding how stuff performs in given ways. Like… the diesel 911, it’s not an antigel product it’s designed to be used AFTER youre having problems with water and ice in your fuel… meaning it’s likely isopropyl alcohol based… so it “bonds” with the water and puts in in solution to be gotten rid of. All diesel fuel has water in it… it’s a question of how the water is mixed in…. So you can’t judge all of this solely based on the testing done here. Also… you can get isopropyl alcohol cheaper at Walmart in the pharmacy. And you can have an alcohol solution that in a bottle won’t freeze at very cool temps… but add in some water (aka put the additive in the fuel that has water) and suddenly it’s frozen at a much milder temp. All I’m saying is take this stuff with a grain of salt and do proper research to understand the full extent of the processes involved when asking a liquid mix of chemicals to do big jobs. Follow the directions on the bottles, contact the people that make the stuff… look up the msds to see if it lists the actual ingredients so you can understand what something really does. Bobistheoilguy is a good place to start as far as non peer reviewed stuff… but again you are your own warranty in this world so I always try to actually understand further and check as many sources as i can within the timeframe involved. And there are some circumstances where dumping some random snake oil or even something fine in one motor in your fuel can cost you thousands dependent on the machine.

I keep coming back to this video thinking there needs to be a "diesel fuel additive" series. There are so many new products just in the last 2 years that I feel like we need more data to go along with it! I'd love to see amsoil, and Lucas oil added to the bunch. Also hotshots new products as well. As another comment suggested, doing a lubricity test with the correct dilution of fuel with additive might also change things!

I really appreciate the videos. Always very informative and fun. When it comes to diesel treatment being that our trucks have saddle style tanks we double and even triple dose our fuel. When temps are single digit or lower I’ve even had to add 4x the listed amount. Never had any luck out of howes for anti-gel but power service works pretty good as long as it’s over-dosed. The only time I use the recommended amount is when I’m doing regular injector cleaning by fuel treatment. I had fuel gel on me just last week. I used regular power service anti-gel in the white jug and added a 250 gallon treatment to a 35 gallon tank. Yes it’s overkill by the directions but it did work and got my work truck running great again. It didn’t happen immediately though.

The diesel 911 is for when your fuel has already gelled, it de-gells the fuel, where as the other products you tested are for a preventative measure.

Yep. Ran a service truck in the mid west and 911 works great at breaking the gelled fuel back down for a short time in the cold, but adding it before
      does absolutely nothing.

    • @RobertHull

Another point to make is the other anti-gels will not reliquify gelled fuel, they will only prevent it.

I’d like to see the PS DieselKleen tested at full dose, rather than half-dose. Or if it was, I’d like it to be specified what the dosing is - the Hotshots has 1 dosing option - 1 ounce per 8 gallons.
The PS has 2 dosing options, and 3 formulations - the 1:400, 1:1000, and 1:1500 options.
So, if we were using, for example, the 80 oz packaging, at 250 gallons, versus the below 0 option of 125 gallons, it’s literally 2x the dosing. So I expect the results to be significantly different depending on the dosing! And we are never told which dosing he uses. We aren’t told if the packaging was a 1:400 or 1:1000 mix option. I’m not as familiar with the others, but at least tell us what version, what dosing! That’s what Science is about!

I have an old RV that was abandoned myself. 1986 allegro. 454 on a GM cassis. 54K confirmed original miles.
I could not believe it but when I started fiddling around with it, if everything still worked. Unbelieveable. Last registration on the tag was 1998. The 454 legit started right up when I ran gasoline to it and purred like a new motor.
I can't bring myself to scrap the old thing. But a roof leak basically ruined the interior of the drivers area and dash. Vandals had broken windows out as well.. I really don't know what to do with it tbh...

My vehicle is a 08 Cummins, full delete, EFI live tunes on tow tune with TCM programed. Live in upstate NY.
Prior, when using Howes and I used the remote start in cold temps (below 30) the truck would fire, stall recycle ignition and try again. Sometimes taking three attempts. Since using Hot Shot the truck has fired every time on first try. Very pleased with that alone. No mileage data as I have been plowing some.

Great comparison, I've used PS for many years on the farm, will have to give Hot Shot a try! (Like the idea of better lubricity). I will have to say that I've never had a gelling problem with power service, but I've always treated fuel with a slightly higher concentration than called for. (Best to err on the safe side). Another incredibly well done test. Many thanks.
    I live in South Wisconsin.
I have used the Howes since it is readily available at a local farm implements store since I bought my Jeep in 2005. Never had a problem with fuel gelling even when I buy the biodiesel in Monroe, WI. If you are going to have gelling it is far more likely to happen with biodiesel.
I was disappointed the Howes did not lubricate as well as it should have. But then it occurred to me, that is what the biodiesel is for.
Lubrication is very important now. I don't fully understand how sulfur lubricated the injectors, but now that it has been refined down to a record low level there should be something to replace it. Sounds like the Stanadyne would be the best one to use if you can't get biodiesel or if you are reluctant to trust it in winter.
My Jeep Liberty now has 260,000 miles on the original pump and injectors. I'm reasonably certain the biodiesel has helped lubricate and protect the engine parts.
If I should go on a long trip where biodiesel may not be available, I will look for the Stanadyne.

Yeah my first thought. You can't compare them in the same test as 911 doesn't claim to be an additive of any kind. It's really an emergency thing you use when it's too late and it has a few competitors as well that don't claim to be additives either.
The supplement did what it claimed to do like Howes at preventing gelling.

Kinda' late to this one, sorry. In another event that you had done I responded with my use of MMO. I use it in my cranes as well to assist with boom lift, boom rotation and quicker boom reaction. I found that it resists the freezing points n winter work (very little thank God) and does not "thin out" or lose pressure in summer. I am using MMO in my diesel fuel as well. Maybe Im wrong but after hundreds of thousands of miles I have no engine failures or excessive repairs.
I have an eCAT engine at over 650 horses that cranks and runs perfectly with MMO mixing all 12 months.
There is no change in the servicing and no strange residual effects on service intervals. Just me.

@@GTObearclaw1 I was in New Mexico when this hit and we got down to -9 with the wind chill. I used service power anti gel and had no problems other than a rough idle for the first few seconds or so but it was at 4am and freaking cold 🥶
