@@mlg_kyle9241 That was my first thought when I started watching the video, but then Karl went over how he'd _frequently_ mess up, but be able to recover after messing up. That's not something you do if you're cheating. Also, when playing a game, I often do worse and worse when I'm actually seriously trying... But if I'm failing anyway and I know I'm failing, sometimes I just stop caring because I _know_ it's over anyway... And then because I'm relaxed I just beat it and it's not nearly as hard anymore and I'm just confused because I was certain I'd have to start over. Brains are weird like that, and I can COMPLETELY believe that Andrew just stopped caring when he lost so much time near the start.. Then probably started caring a lot more when he did so well, but because he was doing so well he managed (somehow) to regulate his nerves based on the 'not caring' calm? I don't know, I'm just making stuff up that sounds plausible, but I do know we tend to keep doing what we've been doing.. So if he managed to figure out how to calm down from being stressed, maybe he learned how to do that without failing first?

imagine how many WR speedrunners would of achieved in the history of speedrunning if runners didnt reset when making mistakes in the first half of their run
The thing is, the vast majority of people choke under pressure. That is why even speedruns with fantastic paces that are far ahead end up choking in the later parts of the run. This is spoken about in the video... no one in the history of SM64 120 star has ever played the last half of the game as well as he just did. That is because most people do best in the first half before your nerves start to get to you EVEN when you are ahead of time. That he has this talent of not letting his nerves consume him whether he's on pace or behind is absolutely insane and almost one of a kind.

There is a Maxim in writing and martial arts and so many other pursuits in life: Don't give up. Keep trying. Imagine if he'd given up on the run 37 minutes in, when he made another mistake and called The Run dead.
It might have even contributed to his coolness during the second half of the run. In his mind he probably thought the run wouldn't beat the record so he just cruised through the rest to get some practice and wasn't as bothered by the small mistakes anymore.
I would say any % mario 64, and any % spyro 1 (held by Dayoman) are the two most prestigious records in my opinion. Dayo holds ownership of 120% in spyro as well, and suiji holds all records in m64. They are both absolute goats

@@mlg_kyle9241 the Speedrun mods have a lot of ways to confirm if someone is cheating or not, including Mario's blinks, he would be caught instantly if he was cheating
@@mlg_kyle9241 Even that would be impressive. If he were found to have been cheating, he has a major future in show business with acting chops like that.
I come from a family with a background in Hollywood entertainment. I have _never_ seen acting like that except _occasionally_ from the very best performers. His reactions, to me, are absolute proof that he literally cannot be faking anything.
Now we just have to wait for SummoningSalt's SM64-video "the quest to beat Suigi"
Never has the saying "well played" come more in handy.
That is one of the funniest typos I've ever seen
Seeing someone so happy is just cool, you don't see that often
"Never seen a 1:36 and I never will" -GreenSuigi, probably
Elite reference
When Suigi gets 5 out of 5 categories, i'll make the same sound he did at the end of this run.
He deserved this. All of his grinding finally reaches a world record. I'm so proud of him.
"grinding"
@@TheSearchForTruth88 Bro really is the biggest Suigi hater. Man he's been grinding every single star in the game, what more do you want?
imagine how many WR speedrunners would of achieved in the history of speedrunning if runners didnt reset when making mistakes in the first half of their run
That reaction was an emotional volcanic eruption man he was holding onto that for a while, sounded like a steam engine
Kinda related. If you are into metal listen to iron maiden's the number of the beast. The singer scream was shot several times and everytime the producer said to him "again" the singer grew in anger until the last take that was the chosen one. Funny stuff.
Cant wait for the "how they caught the new Super Mario World Record cheater" video in about 6 months
There is a Maxim in writing and martial arts and so many other pursuits in life:
Don't give up.
In a couple weeks a new video is going to be titled “Worst cheating scandal in Mario history.”
Half a minute is a HUGE gap! Props to the guy for that awesome run!
I would say any % mario 64, and any % spyro 1 (held by
Dayoman) are the two most prestigious records in my opinion. Dayo holds ownership of 120% in spyro as well, and suiji holds all records in m64. They are both absolute goats
I just arrived home and there's an one-minute old Karl Jobst video???
Splendid, time to watch more Mario 64 speedrunning miracles.
a*
And today, he's now 5/5 in terms of holding the main Mario 64 speed run World Records.
The mental focus to to achieve something like this is amazing to me.
And now he has all 5! Insane! Can't wait for the summoning salt video lol, this was great to watch while I wait 😂
I was waiting for this video. Suigi is inhumanly good, like holy shit, I think he's an alien
Can't wait to see the VHS tape of Billy Mitchell smashing all those records.
It’s always good to see a video from Karl that isn’t about some one cheating or Billy Mitchell
And then 2 weeks later, GreenSuigi achieves the fabled 5 out of 5.
Suigi aged like 12 years since his last record
120 stars do things to you
What 120 stars does to mf
I'd age 50 years and die if I even tried 120 star speedrunning
@@Rex-golf_player810 That would be 1200 years
@@diamonddudeygo i fucked up chat
Karl, have enjoyed your videos. This one took almost half way before the story actually began. Backstory + an ad for 4.5 minutes is tough to make it through.
maybe tiktok is more fitting for your brain
@@SylveonSimp I understand you want to defend the channel you also enjoy, but let's be reasonable. 4.5 minutes out of a 12 minute video is too much for no "new" material.
Karl is the absolute legend. He needs to hear that more often
we need a suigi documentary after this. i don’t even play sm64 but i stay updated for suigi
i'm a super casual sm64 speedrun viewer but moments like 8:57 easily make me say 'what the fuck' lmao
That's nothing lol. The set up for that one bomb guy to fall exactly where you need him in the "no A press" or "no jump" category or whatever was insane.
Mindblowingly amazing. What a feat. Crazy that he might really do all 5 at the same time. That would clearly be the ultimate speedrun crown.
He just lowered it by 5 seconds lmao. this man is insane
I know it'd probably never happen but imagine a video of Shigeru Miyamoto reacting to Super Mario 64 speedruns
Really wish I hadnt seen that reaction
being able to hunker down for over an hour and a half while playing so precise and not letting the stress get to you is so darn impressive
SUIGI JUST GOT 5/5!!!
New 70 record!
It’s wild to me that the dudes that are dominating M64 speed runs are younger than the game itself.
and he even missed a bowser throw... crazy
Suigi is as much of a 'generational talent' as there's ever been in SM64, or quite possibly speedrunning in general!
I'd be extremely curious to see him tackle a very different popular speedgame eventually. SM64 120 star is one of the 2 or 3 holy grails of the hobby and to see what he's done... WOW!!! What a damn Legend! I'm so happy and proud he's Canadian!
Can't believe how awesome this turned out!
@9:49 I can actually *feel* my mirror neurons struggle to rev up that quickly and then do an emergency safety stop.
I hope Carl you win your case against Billy Mitchell and show that guy that you can't sue people just because they said some facts and use a meme
His lawyer screwed him apparently. Looking like Billy will win
Tell that to ernst zundel
@@crass141walf6 Even if Billy "wins" he'll still lose because no matter what Billy will need to pay Carl back for all the lawyer and court fees that's been building up over the years.
@@crass141walf6
Wait, what?
How do you spell someone's name wrong when it's literally the name of the channel? IQ isn't strong with this one.
A similar achievement has almost been achieved in breath of the wild, runner player5 held 4/5 world records up until 7 days ago, when his any% record got beaten. 2 days after he got the 100% world record which was the one that was missing before
if Koroks would've gotten the any% record 2 days later playter5 would've had 5/5 records in the main categories
I'm sorry but his reaction looked very fake to me. He didn't even try to dance to Surfin' USA after beating the world record.
Anyone else come back to this after the news dropped? Looks like Karl's got another video to make.
You always know how to make a great video!
Karl: "I want you to look good"
Me: "Your little ointment packs have no power here"
Me at 12:21: Huh... so he didn't cheat?
The mods can even know if someone is cheating by Mario's blinks, I think we're safe from that
@@mariotheundyingWith all the technology available and the reveals that top players have cheated, it is hard to be excited about a new WR without wondering then the other shoe will drop.
Karl said that Suigi has been working on this run for about a year, so it’s not like this came out of nowhere. Also the fact that there are player errors in the run lends credibility to the run.
I am sure this run will be analyzed in minute detail for any inconsistency.
a reaction like he had when finishing the game tells a lot.
One can feel the sudden relief he goes through.
@@Maheli_Seli idk... If the jump king video has proven anything it's that cheaters can have some pretty incredible reactions
/s
@@xYiazmatx has jobst made a video about this jump king guy ?
Would like to see
Who is here after Suigo got the 70 star record back and is now 5/5?
HE DID IT. 5/5 WOOOOOOOO
I love that someone named fetalalcoholhottie subscribes to him right when he beats the record
He and Marc Rutzou. He and fuckin' Marc Rutzou. That's fuckin' right. He skipt 1:36. He's a fuckin' legend. He has never seen a 1:36 and he never fuckin' will. 1:35 baby, till the day he fuckin' dies.
Got to 7:33 without realizing he was talking about 2 different people. suigi and weegee wtf are those nicknames
btw congrats to lil bro, it's always good to see someone on the top without cheats.
Can't fake a reaction like that. That's a reaction to days upon days upon days upon days of grinding and focusing on a goal and achieving it.
Ironically, if it ever comes out that he was cheating (hopefully we never see that day), there will doubtless be many comments saying stuff like, "I had a feeling his reaction was obviously fake and over the top" lol
Years upon years upon years of grinding.
@@BlueSparxLPsit never will tho, because there’s so much proof he’s legit that it’s impossible he’s cheating
Can absolutely fake a reaction like that. It's very easy considering how over exaggerated it is. It's absolutely not normal, neither is overtaking people who have played for decades when he's still a kid. He's not legit.
@@TheSearchForTruth88 proof
And he's done it again already, 1:35:28
Need to update the video, he already beat his record🤣🤣
it's always crazy to see minute barriers broken in old games, just continues to amaze me
“Everything about this run is insane”
After watching and hearing his reaction, yes, everything definitely was.
Dude, 1:33 being not only possible, but totally achievable is wild.
People aren't speed running for the record anymore. They're speed running to have a whole KJ video dedicated to themself. That's it, I'm bustin' out the old Nintendo and SM64!!
For me Matt Turk and Mike Tyson's Punchout is the greatest achievement in Speed running. Like it took an entire community to either match or figure out how to beat his scores, and the did it all with help from Matt Turk. And he figured out those strategies himself, while normally people speed run using the strategies that have been developed by an entire community
So as of 11/03/24 at 2134 hours…. You need to make a new video! Kid you not, he just brought it down again.
That raw outpouring of emotion at the end, love to see it… He locked in on that one 2nd half.. Just imagine he does both halves perfectly.. Beast..
Y’all he did it!!
Huge respect to Suigi AND Weegee, two ABSOLUTE legends 🫶🏼
Give it 5 years and he'll probably get proven as a massive cheater
nah, he just got a run that was a 1:35:41 in a live in person event infront of a hundred people irl and a couple people live. it's undeniable how legit he is.
@Joshy- that's really good to hear :) he deserves all the praise then
