Eddie Brock was fine in my opinion, purely from a movie standpoint - though the characters were rushed, I find that as the only flaw. I know a LOT of people aren't going to like that...

Also sand serves as some sort of food source as well. I have no idea how he simulates skin, hair, clothes, and breathing but that's comic book science for ya.
I actually recently binged watch Spectacular again and I agree that almost every character was potrayed excellently (If you can make a Spider Man show and make Flash Thompson of all people interesting as a character than your doing your TV Show right) and the Sandman was no exception, I love his little arc in the 2nd Season to quote Spider man in that episode "As far as I'm concern Marko, you just scored as big as a man can"
I really love antivillains so Sandman is my favorite Marvel villain. (I love Deadpool and Superior Spider-Man too, but I consider them antiheroes, not villains.)

Flint Marko involved in his crime spree during the teenage years and adulthood. He had a trouble childhood, cause a bad crime during the adult age and land in jail. He escapes from jail and had his body bonded with sand that granted him powers and became one of Spider-Man's most earlyish villains, Sandman.
I actually really like his origin, more so the teacher and bullies forming his views of the way to get ahead... the taking solace in making sand sculpture thing sounds like "geddit cuz its ironic!" being repeated in my head. Otherwise though great goals/motives.

As they elevated the character and created a memorable villain who presents serious moral quandaries and has an engaging arc of his own. It’s also notable that he’s the rare Spider-Man screen villain who comes from a different social class; he’s not wealthy and gifted with resources like Norman Osborn (Green Goblin) or Otto Octavius (Doctor Octopus), and his scrappy lifestyle makes his performance more empathetic. By far he is one of the most powerful villains for Spiderman as his ability to control the sand are not something to be underestimated. Now that the new Spiderman: No Way Home movie is coming up in December it is believed and for sure that Sandman was spotted on the first trailer of the 2021 movie. The speculation is that Marko is in fact protecting Spider-Man from Electro’s attacks by sheltering him from the storm. The logistics of the multiverse are confusing at best, but defending his former foe would align with and continue Marko’s journey from Spider-Man 3. After making amends with Peter, perhaps Marko comes to his rescue to repay Peter for forgiving him of Uncle Ben´s death.
Thomas Hayden Church was the only thing that Spiderman three got right in there characterization of the Sandman, despite the altered backstory and unnecessary attachment to Spiderman’s origin.
One of my favorite Spidey villains. The origin story it's interesting and comprehensible. Sandman it's not a villain at all. He was just an anti-hero. A human who lived between good and evil. That's why I love his story.

The castle sculpturing is pretty much one of the only highlights in his life, distracting him from the harsh reality, so when what motivated him was gone, it did make him rougher, but also allowed to appreaciate the fact that for one moment in his life he was happy. It's like the sand castle is his life, it's hard to shape it up but it's very easy to break it down, so him trying to be a better person is like him trying to build himself up back again in hopes he'll finally manage to keep it up, even if he knows that might never happen.
I love how part of a villian's or hero's childhood i.e. likes sand castles coincidently happens to end up having something to do with their powers. Convenient.

For me, the whole point of Joker is that he is an eternal force that can't be eliminated. He exists as a reflection of Batman and puts into question his reason for existing. Giving him an origin and establishing he's just a human being undermines all that.
if i remember it correctly, sandman wasn't even supposed to be in the film. it was colombia's decision to include him. it was supposed to focus on peter's dark side and the hob goblin, which would have made the character development a lot better (without the whole "flint did/didn't murder peter's uncle)

its a matter of exhaustion, Gara is still only human. he can still get hurt and die, even in his most powerful form. On the other hand sandman could be contained and controlled by Gara(being sand and all) but Gara would eventually tire out.
