First introduced to comic book fans back in 1964, The Green Goblin was originally conceived as an ancient mythological monster that was freed from an Egyptian-like tomb. However, this oddly dressed villain was eventually revealed to be industrialist Norman Osborn, the father of Peter’s friend Harry. The head of OSCORP, a weapons manufacturer, his wicked transformation was the result of having personally tested a serum designed to enhance a soldier’s physical abilities, healing factor and intellect. While seemingly successful, it had the side effect of causing him to lose his sanity, forcing wild mood swings and hallucinations. Willem Dafoe was a hell of a Green Goblin. His voice work really made it cool.

Sam Raimi’s trilogy is one of the most (if not, the most) comic accurate depictions of any superhero.

Green Goblin is one of my favourite villains. Just pure, unrelenting evil and such interesting gadgets!
The fact that he is pure, unrelenting, unjustifiably evil is what actually makes him kind of unidimensional and uninteresting character to read about in my opinion, in spite of the fact that he is Peter's worst personal enemy

The fact that you don't think you can't means you haven't read enough villains in media as alot are pure evil and they have depth and still complex like Darth Maul. Not ever villain needs a sob story for a backstory to be compelling at all.
No way in hell is he "unidimensional and uninteresting character to read" AT ALL! He's amazing fun and immersive to read and watch because of all his creative planning and scheming he's doing!

One thing I don't like about Batman's rogue gallery is that most of them aren't even close to being a match for Batman physically. This means you never really get as many cool fight scenes in either the comics or cartoons.

Super Gamer I did say "most of them" but with Spidey you're always guaranteed cool fights, in Batman, not so much. Or they maybe just send their dull goons to fight off Bats
rockys201 Batman's villains are either too weak to fight him or too strong for him to fight. There's rarely any in betweens.
Most of his villains are too weak for Batman: Joker, Riddler, Two-Face, Penguin, Calendar Man
The others that are two strong for him are Croc, Freeze and Poison Ivy to an extent.
Bane and Ras al Ghul are the only villains to my knowledge that can give Batman a true fight.
Let's be honest, Most of Spidey's villains would murder Batman in a one-on-one unprepared fight.

Willem Dafoe was perfect for the role of the Green Goblin in Sam Rami's 2002 film Spider-Man.
What about James Franco was perfect for the role of the New Goblin in Sam Raimi's 2007 film Spider-Man and what if in this movie Sam Raimi's 2002 film Spider-Man there was James Franco as Harry Osborn/Green Goblin jr as a villain of first Spiderman movie 2002 not Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin as villain in Sam Raimi's Spiderman Movie 2002 and then in Sam Raimi's Spiderman Movie 2007 James Franco as Harry Osborn/New Green Goblin jr die but not as a villain die as a hero

If it was not for the goblin spiderman probably would not be as popular as he is today. I mean sure their are other villans but none have caused spidey more suffering and have tested his limits more.

That's true. They both wears green and purple costume and have freaky faces, but aside from that, they are rather different villains. The joker started off as a serial killer , but the Green Goblin was more of grotesque-costumed gangster. Even to this day , Norman Osborn is still more "down-to-earth" in his goals than the Joker.

What's amazing is that since Stan Lee was a huge fan of old horror movies, the Green Goblin is partially based on Doctor Jekyl and Mr Hyde. That's awesome.

That tied in with the fact that the Goblin is Norman's evil side made into an entire split personality that he talks to on occasion. Made through the creation of a fornula in a laboratory. The Goblin is the Hyde to Norman's Jekyl. It just seems to me that he based him on Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde. Which I absolutely love.
Well even though he's based off of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde he's still referred to as the Marvel's Joker.

The Green Goblin is a perfect example of absolute power corrupted purely. Having ridiculous intelligence and strength after a serim gone wrong must be the main reason why Norman Osborne was corrupted by absolute power.
The goblin in Sam rami version was actually pretty good had the voice down and everything I remember getting chills when he busted in aunt mays home and told her to finish praying I put him up there with Jackie earl and health ledger for portraying a fictional character

Spider Man 1 was a great movie the only thing that I was not down with was the fact that Peter was able to produce his own spider web, but beyond that a really cool movie, and Spider Man 2 Alfred Molina is amazing, he looks exactly like the Doc Ock although I hate it at the end when Peter talks to him and he recovers his humanity I didn't agree to that...but AMAZING performance by Mr. Molina...

Also, is it just me or would anyone kill for a proper adaptation of The Night Gwen Stacy Died? That has to be one of the best comic stories ever told.

Stan Lee couldn't reconcile Norman Osborn's almost fatherly affection for Peter Parker with the Goblin's hatred of Spider-Man, so copped out with the amnesia angle. I personally think Osborn chooses to not make an issue of Spider-Man's identity out of this affection, but people are often contradictory in their viewpoints IRL.
In a previous website, it asked the question why The Goblin hates Spider-man. I believe it was because he was a obstacle to The Goblin's life of crime and taking over all the NYC gangs. Also Norman Osbourne was first formally introduced in ASM #37, not #38!

Overused doesn't make him bad, it just make the character boring. The whole thing with Joker is that he's crazy, psychotic, and unpredictable... and its just gotten old to the point where Joker is treated like the only Batman villain.
I would appreciate a Batman story with Mr. Freeze, Two-face, Black Mask, Killer Croc, Scarface and the Ventriloquist, and the like, rather than "Joker is up to his old tricks at being crazy and psychotic".
So yes, between Joker and Green Goblin, I think Green Goblin has more depth, in being a threat to Spider-Man and Peter Parker either through Harry as Norman, or as Harry..
Both characters are great. But i really like the Joker a lot more. Yeah, its overused just like Spiderman and Batman. The names of these characters has turned into synonymous of good quality stories so it seems that the comic book writers just make comics around them. But the overuse of a character make more people to know them even if the story is boring or bad. Maybe some kid is watching "The Dark Knight" and saying "Hey, i will be a comic book writer someday!" and boom, next Alan Moore, next "Killing Joke".
You know, i preffer to read single comic books or series that are done already done so i don't buy "Detective Comics" or anything like that.

In my opinion the green goblin was a good character in the amazing spider man 2. Yhh he wasn't the goblin for long in that film but Harry was creepy and that laugh was like a very evil laugh. A great villain for the spider man cinematic universe.

Norman Osborne was the original Green Goblins. He died and his son, Harry Osborne took up the Green Goblin. Harry, an alcoholic and drug addict meshed better with the super soldier formula than did his father, but the drugs and alcohol amplified the psychosis side-effects of the drugs, and ended up putting too much strain on his heart after a climactic battle with spider man, and after saving MJ in a fire. Harry Osborne is dead, unless he's come back from the dead again. Movies be damned, the comics are canon.

Sam Rami's original Spider-Man could have been so much better if they'd put more time into the Goblin costume. I know that it would look silly if they copied his costume exactly from the comics, but they could have done better than what they came up with.
Look up what the original design was. They tried, but Willem Dafoe (actor who played him) said the suit was way too uncomfortable to wear. So, they went with what we all know they used. Personally I don't think what they used was awful, having the body amour be a military flight Suit was a great idea, but the mask is lacking.

SuperiorSpiderMods I thought the flight suit was ok but unnecessary. In the comics the purpose and durability of the suit has been explained various times. As far as it's appearance, it was specifically designed to strike fear in it's intended targets.

This is wrong. It was correct at first but Osborn wasn't at a police convention when he found out he was the Green Goblin. He found out when he was at MJ's broadway show, he felt something, went into a backroom and remembered that he owned a secret lair in that very same building. MJ was his son Harry's girlfriend at the time. This was from #96-98

Its his personal relation to him. He was a former mentor, His best friend's father, the person who killed his first love. Eddie was just a guy who was an obsessed former coworker that wanted revenge. The influence he had effected him not only as Spidey but as Peter.

The plot in these series would be a lot better than the one in all the movies which lead to Gwen Stacy's demise and Green Goblin's representation. However, producers, directors and writers always have to make a separate version every time.

I liked the story from The Amazing Spider-man cartoon in the 90's better.
I dont like the fact that in the amazing spiderman 2 harry started off as the green goblin. It is not original why does marvel movies switch shit up? These kids in this generation should be followed up on what happened in the comics. Smh. It was a great movie just the fact that norman is suppose to be the green goblin.

What the Green Goblin so scary was that he was the representation of the worst aspects of Norman Osborn in the form of the creature he feared as a child, then later embraced his inner demons and truly began to become the Goblin he feared with a sick grin on his face. By then Norman had the reached the point of no redemption.
My favorite TV version of the goblin was the spectacular spiderman version, the voice and just how he acted just stuck to me. Like the joker from the Dark Knight Trilogy movie.
