Although, I agree with you on all the causes of lip lines that you addressed, you missed the biggest cause: the dreaded menopause. Even women who have their ovaries removed when they are in their 30s and don’t go on HRT tend to struggle with rapid premature aging including lip lines. Hormone loss is a huge cause of wrinkles, sagging, lines (as well as dozens of free with no extra charge horrible unwanted symptoms). HRT helps if you get on it before the breakdown of collagen and the drying out of tissues. Additionally, a dab of topical DHEA to lips is usually found to significantly increase plumpness and sensation of lips.
So true! My constant straw use undoubtedly contributed to my lip lines, but the changes in my skin in record time since menopause is striking. I'm happy to grow older and do my best to roll with this new version of myself, but it really is something. I just get used to the new changes in my face only to wake up the next day with more changes! 😂
Omg, me too. I went through it early and, although I do smoke my skin was pretty good, but it DESTROYED me! I had to renew my license the other day and honestly probably hadn't looked at it since I got it 8 yrs ago. I WAS STUNNED! I look, I feel, 20 yrs older! I have to quit! But I'm still screwed on the wrinkles!
So true, when you lose your estrogen you lose 30% of your collagen. I don't smoke or use a straw and I have terrible lip lines. I swear I woke up one day and my face changed dramatically. Take care everyone.
I cried every morning for a year after my husband had a mental breakdown. He was never the same person again. At the end of that first year I had wrinkles all around my mouth. Grief takes a toll on women's faces.
Good points , but the biggest reason for lip Lines or any wrinkles or Lines is caused by menopause . You litteraraly can see your face changing over night ! Im 51 and In full blown menopause With all symptoms and more . My wrinkles has gone from tiny to many In one year . Menopause is a lifechanger .

Yes I am 52 going thru menopause and I did not have these wrinkles last year . I cannot deal with the menopause, I literally so aggravated 99% of the time I get absolutely no sleep and the hot flashes have put me over the edge 😢

I wish that maintaining one's weight from a very early age would be addressed. Gaining and losing weight is major cause of both premature facial wrinkles along with body skin sagging. The only other factor, without a doubt is sun exposure & smoking. We are getting incredibly defrauded by the unrealistic dreams sold by cosmetic companies and many plastic surgeons who now have their own brands of "miracle anti-aging over priced products". Thank you, Dr Dray for the countless years, of research that you so generously share. Your ageless beauty is an absolute reflection of the enormous knowledge contained within your platform.
I have some lines around my lips. They have improved since I started using Tretinoin. I also moisturize my face well and on top of the areas around my lips and eyes, I immediately apply vaseline on top of the moisturizer to lock it in and this also helps! I think lip filler around the lips, especially a lot of filler, looks deformed (not a good look), and using a little filler doesn’t seem to help the lines much. I’m curious to try red light therapy and micro needling. Everywhere else on my face is very smooth, very few wrinkles at almost age 59!
Not a straw user. Never a smoker. I see the lines, faintly, but they're there (I'm 40). My face can be quite expressive, though. And I'm fair and even though I'm great at regular sunscreen use now, I wasn't always. I despise these lines so much. It has actually surprised me how much they bother me. I never thought I was going to be that kind of person that was super bothered with an aging appearance, but here we are.
You can minimize them for a time however you’d be better served by accepting the inevitable aging process and make peace with it. Otherwise you run the risk of looking like those unfortunate celebrities that aren’t recognizable anymore because of their addiction to plastic surgery.
I have constantly used Organic cold press castor oil on my face, it has helped with fine lines and has brightened my skin.I apply it every evening a little before bed time

Hi Dr Dray there have been many people who recently say that synthetic hair is toxic and even cancerous. This effects many people who use synthetic hair particularly African women (women who use synthetic hair for braiding hair, wigs etc) could you please share your perspective and research on this? Is it true? Please make a video this could help many people! 🩷
I never thought? I drink out of a straw all of the time. However, after menopause, a full hysterectomy, and cancer treatments, I started getting lip lines.
Please do not use petroleum jelly... it's the worst! It is toxic and though wrongly approved by the fda it's not healthy. There are so many other cleaner emollients one can use .
No slugging for me. I got wrinkles above my lip when I went through chemotherapy and and to take medication to put me in menopause. Im adopted, so unknown hereditary lip lines. 🤷♀️ I should try red light therapy.
I got a late diagnose of EDS last year at 50yo, so I have no idea if when you talk about collagen it applies to me. And btw thank you so much for doing the EDS video! Though I’m still struggling with how to take care of my skin.
I absolutely agree with wrinkles and straws. I am guilty and have the lines. I use straws because I don’t want to put my mouth on restaurants glasses, or when at work or visiting at others homes, or driving. Yeah, I’m a spout or straw addict. Commenters, do you think that’s unreasonable? I pretty much started at COVID and I like it now.
I was great until one year after a total hysterectomy removed ovaries. I couldn't figure out why my face aged so quickly. Dr (male) said not to take hormone replacement. Doctor's need to look at the whole picture & women need to do threir own research. Couldn't find much on the internet back then & honestly this is not even addressed which is sad. Working hormones keep you young.
Question for Dr Dray: My dermatologist switched me from Tretinoin.025 to Altreno lotion .05. ( for my cystic acne) Will Altreno still help with “anti aging” just like plain Tretinoin? Thanks for your awesome videos!!! 🙂
Not a smoker but a life long happy whistler as well as a very expressive face. At 65 years of age i def. have these lines, which are more visible on the rare occasion that i wear a colourful lippy. Oh well 😚
Me too! I often think that and tried to think of ways to not do that but only way i could think of was relax your whole mouth but it all drools out! Ha ha but i believe its a huge contributing factor ! Cos you have to purse your lips around to hold all the toothpaste in and we do it a few times everyday!
Hello, Vaseline is a big no no for me on my face it makes me a oil slick very bad I hated it. What are you thoughts on the omnilux contour red light mask. I couldn’t find much data on it about it being safe in the long run and are they worth the high price in your opinion? Thanks so much
I've always purposely try to use a straw because I care about my teeth and potential staining that happens with coffee or dark drinks and the straw kind of minimizes the amount that is swishing around your mouth
I would definitely not buy it. It’s chemical sunscreen, which I don’t buy, for many reasons. Second it contains fragrance. Third it contains niacinamide, which for me dries out the skin.
I know this has nothing to do with lip lines but I am so interested on your view of this at home treatment of Qure which is an at home set of a vial with attachment of hair like gold needles that prick the skin. You must change the needle head for each treatment. If you have time I would appreciate your expertise on this treatment. Thank you Dr Dray
Will be 48 this summer, just now noticing this starting around my mouth unfortunately but I use a straw for everything except my 1 cup of coffee in morn. I drink way more water if it’s out of my big straw for some reason idk why. Isn’t growing older fun ladies 🙄
I have to say mine are genetic.Did not smoke, drink for straws and I definitely used sunscreen. I also used retinas for years yet the lines after 60 showed up with a vengeance.

I use straws because I don’t want to put my mouth on restaurants glasses, or when at work or visiting at others homes, or driving. Yeah, I’m a spout or straw addict. Commenters, do you think that’s unreasonable? I pretty much started at COVID and I like it now.
I have found the Angel Lift does make improvements to my upper and lower lip lines, but it's ridiculously expensive.
I am trying Angel Lift now. This is week one. How long have you used AL?
@@jennifercunningham466 Honestly, the one thing that has really worked is fillers. The AL is a bit of a bandaid. Also sleeping on my back helps.
@ thanks
Thank you for this great information!
Could you please review Augustinus Bader products? Thank you!!
Amazing! I was looking yesterday in your old videos about this issue! 😂thank you for the information! 🙏 very appreciated
Happy Wednesday Dr Dray…see you tomorrow x🤩💙
Thank you for this video. It was really informative. ❤
Does red light therapy agravate melasma?
Can you please comment on coconut oil benefits for the skin and if that helps to also moisturise and prevent some water loss?
How close to the lines can we apply tret?
I was great until one year after a total hysterectomy removed ovaries.
I couldn't figure out why my face aged so quickly. Dr (male) said not to take hormone replacement. Doctor's need to look at the whole picture & women need to do threir own research. Couldn't find much on the internet back then & honestly this is not even addressed which is sad. Working hormones keep you young.
Thank you SO much! 🙌🏻
Question for Dr Dray: My dermatologist switched me from Tretinoin.025 to Altreno lotion .05. ( for my cystic acne) Will Altreno still help with “anti aging” just like plain Tretinoin?
Thanks for your awesome videos!!! 🙂
your skin looks amazing! what product are you using that gives your skin that dewy look?
I’ve had them since a young age and never smoked, or been much of a straw user
It's genetics and loss of hormones in menopause. All my female relatives had them and nobody smoked.
Not a smoker but a life long happy whistler as well as a very expressive face. At 65 years of age i def. have these lines, which are more visible on the rare occasion that i wear a colourful lippy. Oh well 😚
Ive long thought teeth brushing may also contribute - repeated closing mouth around toothbrush.
Me too! I often think that and tried to think of ways to not do that but only way i could think of was relax your whole mouth but it all drools out! Ha ha but i believe its a huge contributing factor ! Cos you have to purse your lips around to hold all the toothpaste in and we do it a few times everyday!
Happy Wednesday all!
Morning!
How do you feel about collagen supplements?
Me: let's see how to decrease lip lines
Also me: let's learn to play the harmonica this week
I know right? What about all us musicians? Flute, clarinet trumpet sax and singers? It's a hard dilemma!
What do you think of Angellift “device” to get ride of lines
Can you review Angel Lift!!
My red-light box has both near and far , are both ok to use everyday?
What are your thoughts about Ellacor?
Please try the La Roche Posay Anthelios Oil Correct Photocorrection SPF 50. I would love to know what you think.
I would definitely not buy it. It’s chemical sunscreen, which I don’t buy, for many reasons. Second it contains fragrance. Third it contains niacinamide, which for me dries out the skin.
Good morning Dr Dray ❤
Morning!
I heard that Vasoline over an active, such as tretinoin was a no-no. Is that wrong?
Does oil pulling cause lip lines?

I have this...the masks have no lights around the mouth.
I have to say mine are genetic.Did not smoke, drink for straws and I definitely used sunscreen. I also used retinas for years yet the lines after 60 showed up with a vengeance.
I've heard that laser hair removal on the upper lip can cause wrinkles because the hair follicles, which partly support the skin, are destroyed. Is this true?

Thank you! What’s closest and most effective to RX I can get over the counter?
In the US, for a retinoid? Adapaline!
