  • Eddie Murphy is back as Axel Foley, and we're shocked at how great it is to see him return to this iconic role. "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" is the fourth film in the franchise, and the best since the original "Beverly Hills Cop" from 1984, which was the movie that made Murphy a global superstar. This time, Axel travels from Detroit to Beverly Hills to save his old friend Rosewood, (Judge Reinhold), and reconnect with his estranged daughter, Jane (Taylour Paige), who gets caught up in some danger of her own. Directed by Mark Molloy, written by Will Beall and Tom Gormican & Kevin Etten. Co-starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kevin Bacon, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot. Streaming now on Netflix.

Maybe a Bad Boys crossover? P.S. I wonder where Bogomill is? Did he die off screen? Maybe if not, do a scene like they with Val Kilmer in Top Gun Maverick!

3.5/5 for me. It’s everything you want in a solid sequel. Jokes land for the most part, action is well staged. Mark Molloy in his directorial debut did a great job. My one complaint I’d say (and I understand story wise why) is not enough Judge Reinhold and that’s partly because I love Billy Rosewood as much as Axel Foley. This is one of the giant Netflix 🎥s where you can see where the $$$ went (for those who don’t know shooting in LA is extremely expensive and that’s why a lot of stuff that takes place in LA outside of 📺 is shot in New Orleans or Atlanta). I rewatched 1&2 yesterday and tonight did 3&4. My personal ranking is 1,2,4,3 (2 delivers on the action and looks gorgeous cuz it’s Tony Scott and 3 is a situation where it just felt like nobody really wanted to be there). Loved JGL & Eddie just screaming at each other 😂. I wish Taylour Paige had more to do besides just being angry at her father. I wish I got to see this in a sold out screening on like a Saturday afternoon. Seeing the Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer logo is always 🖤

Wait. Sorry. I chuckled at Nazim Pedrad's real estate agent. All the callbacks were painful. Serge was laugh-free. I rewatched OG Beverly Hills Cop tonight also. Such charm! Even though the humor was 1000% of its time, it works in a way that none of the same humor worked this time. Still love you guys. The good thing bout this one, that was missing from the first two sequels..is the CHARACTERS.
II felt very superficial and didn't ring true..with Axel becoming buddy buddy with his pals' superior, lt. Bogamil. Come onnn...
And it felt more like a generic action flick.
    More shootouts than actual humor.
    Forget bout III.

"three was a let down." Have you seen the child stunt double hanging off the roller coaster ride? That shot still haunts me 30 years later since the theaters. BUT YEAH! I'm so happy that it looks good action, because you know what Eddie Murphy has a nice set of fun action films... I know a lot of people say good things about it, I like Metro. His wacky antics with Michael Rapaport. But like after the Rock, it was a nice film where the action looks good and it's easy to follow. 6/10 pretty average and safe but worth a watch.
    the negatives
Sick of the younger moody female character always yelling at the iconic male character in these legacy sequels. Nowhere near as bad as Dial of Destiny and they didn't cut Axel's nuts off like they did with Indy but still got a little exhausting.
The nostalgia bait can get boring at times
Villains are pretty vanilla which is too bad with a great act like Kevin Bacon.
The comedy is very safe and not trying to trigger the woke left.
    the positives
Axel Foley still feels like the same guy and Eddie was great here.
Taggart and Rosewood were amazing even if they didn't have a lot of screen time.
JGL was actually a very well-done new character and had great chemistry with Murphy.
Paul was great and enjoyed the Detroit scenes.
I think they did a pretty decent job of giving Axel another reason to go to CA and start looking into things.

I expect Harold Faltermeyer got a pretty big paycheck since Axel's theme was used constantly throughout in various new interpretations. The older cop Taggart wasn't in the best shape, but no big deal. It was a fun watch. And yes, the use of practical stunts was noticeable to me. They seemed to wreck a whole lot of actual cars!!! I appreciated this movie because it's part of the beloved franchise that I grew up watching and I can still watch the first and second Beverly Hills cop over and over. I had high hopes for this movie, however, the writing completely missed Mark.
Where did the daughter come from and why were they so strange. It wasn't properly addressed and it was a huge distraction. Who is axel Foley today. What is his point of view. No one is going to address his age at all? He clearly is not the street smart slick talker he used to be.
His demeanor seems more like the Eddie Murphy from Dr. Dolittle. It was not believable as the street smart cop who could trick anyone with his wiles. I was so confused at who this character was. He's not the same. They should've addressed that and had him have a point of view. Was he trying to recapture his youth? Was he an older guy with swag? I mean Samuel Jackson could've played the part better than Eddie Murphy at this point. Because this Eddie Murphy is so suburban and out of touch with this character at this point.
For him to play a street smart cop he needed to have a Director and a writer that would get him back in the same mindset. It just didn't happen for me. So this movie was goofy and not believable. And the plot super obvious so we all figured it out in the first 20 minutes. So I guess this was pretty much a labor of love and done for fun. Obviously the budgets are not the same so you can't expect the same level of quality as the first two, but I would've hoped they would've had better writers to have Eddie Murphy be believable.
Then to give him a contrived conflict with the daughter who we've never heard of, and have that relationship attempt to work itself out throughout this movie, just did not make sense.
The Axel Foley that I knew would have never abandoned his daughter. The dude had integrity. He flew to cali because captain bogamil was injured. He convinced the guys to investigate the alphabet crimes. Now he’s a goofy dude who abandoned his only daughter. How dumb and awful. Tyler Perry has enough of this trope owe didn’t need it here. Who TF wrote this. Disappointed.

yeah, it was a LIGHT movie, made for TV. Would I call it a shit show like COMING 2 AMERICA...NO! (I'm gonna steal a phrase I saw another commenter made) but I am getting a little tired of these LEGACY SEQUELS, lets dust off Clint Eastwood and do another DIRTY HARRY sequel.

I enjoyed it except for Axel's daughter who seemed a bit of a dead weight in the film, she wasn't charismatic or offered light/shade to her performance.

Every legacy sequel has to throw in a moody cu@@ for whatever reason.
