  • Ford F150 EcoBoost Vs. GMC Sierra 6.2 - BOTH 2022 brand new trucks!!!
    Hey Everyone, welcome back!
    Hope all of you are keeping well!
    The last time we raced a 3.5 EcoBoost Vs. a 6.2L Sierra ( • F-150 EcoBoost (3.5L) ... ) we had a 2018 F-150 and the AT4 was a 2021.
    Quite a few people mentioned that we should get a 2021+ F-150 EcoBoost and re-run the race because Ford increased the power of the 3.5's after 2021.
    Thankfully, we were able to find two brand new trucks and try again. So for today we have a 2022 Ford F-150 with the updated 3.5L Twin Turbo EcoBoost V6 engine, making 400Hp and 500 Tq Vs. a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with the 6.2L V8 which makes 420Hp and 460Tq.
    The Sierra has a 3.23 differential and the F-150 has a 3.55 differential and the Ford weighs in at a little less than the GM as well.
    We had the trucks in 4x4 with traction control off for every race, and we were brake torquing/boosting on every launch as well to get the trucks going as quick as possible - they're both FAST trucks and we had a lot of fun filming the video!
    Here are our thoughts about the outcome of the race:
    We were very surprised that the GM won and we realize that there are a handful of videos where the F-150 comes out on top in a race. We believe that because we race at Sea Level, the GM has all of its available power, when compared to a channel like TLF truck - they are racing at between 5000 and 6000 feet (likely) because they are in Boulder, Colorado. Forced Induction engines perform far
    better than Naturally Aspirated engines when at altitude so that can make a big difference.
    Additionally, there's the rear end (differential) ratios. As amazing as it would be to just pick any truck with any specific differential, we are limited to the vehicles that we are able to find - so the rear end can obviously make quite an impact in a race like this as well. What we're saying is that it seems as though both trucks have the potential to win, just based on the location of the race, the specs of the truck, the rear end ratios, etc. And for this specific race, the GM took the win.
    Overall, we'll continue to do our best to make specific races happen for you guys, and as we grow, we'll be able to leverage that to hopefully obtain more vehicles and make more specific races happen.
    Be sure to check out the race we did between an F-150 PowerBoost and a 6.2 Sierra CarbonPro:

    Also, anyone know why the GM doesn't have sport mode? Didn't seem to make much of a difference in its speed but we found that odd.

      Apparently there has been an incorrect IPC calibration, which is incorrectly listing Sport Mode. The engineers are working to fix it. It will be neat to see if it makes any difference, once it's fixed. Who knows.

    Great video and well done. Love the sea level tests .. Car and driver had the 22 Tremor 3.5L at 5.3 sec 0-60 and 13.9 sec in 1/4. They also showed the Denali 6.2L at 5.4 sec. 0-60 and the same 13.9 sec in the 1/4 mile. Very close even when professionally driven. I own a 23 3.5 Tremor and the torque at low -mid range is crazy fun. It wants to run for sure.

      Thanks for your comment! Yeah sea level can make a big difference for sure!
      We’re still not entirely sure how these trucks can break into the 13’s in stock form in the 1/4 - we did everything we could to get them going as fast as possible - brake torquing are various RPM’s, 2WD, 4WD, different modes, etc. could be even a difference in how we time them. We don’t have a drag tree so we just look back on the footage and literally time from the exact frame that the vehicles start to move, to the exact frame that they hit the finish. So it’s about as accurate as possible. It would be interesting to see if there is a slight difference in times between our method and and a drag strip or Dragy device.
      Either way, yeah totally agree - they’re both FAST trucks.
      Hope your F150 runs well for you for a long time!

    Wow, didn’t expect that! Me and my dad raced our trucks (a 2018 F-150 3.5 EcoBoost and a 2018 GMC Yukon 6.2L) and my F-150 came out on top. I think it’s interesting that even though the EcoBoost has gotten more powerful that it’s maybe gotten slower.

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha we didn’t expect this result either!
      I think the biggest difference is the transmission. Back in 2018 the GM’s only had 6 speed’s I believe (maybe 8) but around 2020, 2021 they switched over to a 10 speed and that drastically improved acceleration and 1/4 mile time for the 6.2 engines.
      Pretty wild! Also keep in mind, there are many factors that could change results. Things like trim level, differential ratio, altitude at which the race takes place, etc.
      In our case, with these trucks, the Chev surprisingly took the win!

  • @jkim13055

    Do you know what model, size and load rating the tires on the F150 are? They look much more aggressive and taller than the dynapro at2s that usually come on fx4 F150s in the US. Sam CarLegion did a few videos with a 3.5 tremor that performed pretty well against two different gm 6.2 10 speed trucks

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They’re just a factory option from Ford. Can confirm 100% that they are not any taller as we measured them against another factory tire on a new F150. So they definitely wouldn’t impact race time at all. Additionally, the AT4 we had in this video also had aggressive factory tires on it so it was an even race.
      Sam’s races also didn’t list rear end ratios as well so that could have been enough to make the difference.
      Bottom line, both trucks are very quick and it seems, depending on trim levels, differential ratios, options, etc - either model could win depending on the configuration

    The 3.5L and 5.0L usually wins at elevation against the 6.2L because they can both get air in the engine more efficiently then the pushrod. But at sea level the 6.2L still holds its own.

    Just a quick fyi, the GM truck traction control has one more setting to turn off. You have to click and hold the TC button while in drive which also turns off STM (Stabil Track Management) and the Traction Control, it does get a faster launch with both off. And do dry putting the GMC Denali 6.2 vs the F-150 Platinum 3.5L, the high-end trucks do tend to be quicker off the line and have a higher limiter. Nice video though, keep'em coming.

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shoot I think the Ford has a setting like that as well that we didn’t turn off. We’ll have to make sure to do that in future videos, thanks for the heads up!

    • @upshifter5316
      @upshifter5316 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KingdomAuto These auto makers are tricky with the stability control stuff. They make them like top secret cheat codes. Their lawyers really don't want people turning them off!
      On the Fords, you actually have to press and hold the AdvanceTrac button for AT LEAST 10 seconds to fully shut it off. Any less than that and you get a slightly less intrusive - but still enabled - traction control mode called "AdvanceTrac Sport".
      That being said, as a tuned F150 EcoBoost owner with \many passes on a drag strip testing the different modes, I don't think the difference is large between the latter 2 modes if you are launching in 4WD, as "AdvanceTrac Sport" does permit some decent shenanigans. More variable will come from the driver.

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@upshifter5316 Yeah funny enough, we both come from a family of Ford owners and are well aware of the whole “secret” settings lol. We just both completely forgot to turn them all off. General traction control was off on both trucks and thankfully, they both don’t spin their tires at all in 4x4 so the 1/4 mile time shouldn’t be impacted.

      Cool, that’s basically exactly how we launched the F150 in this video as well. Only difference was we had traction control off. As you can see in the video, the Ford got off to a great start (especially the last race) but lost in the top end which means the launch had almost nothing to do with the results of the race.
      The Sierra also won the rolling race too which confirms it’s not the launch that caused the F150 to lose.
      We were surprised as well. But the new 10 speed 6.2’s have a really strong top end.
      There’s no doubt that different gearing/options/trim packages, etc can make a big difference in a truck race. So there’s no doubt that a 3.5 Eco can take a new 6.2 but in this specific case, the Chevy was faster

    Great and fun video but I noticed every Ford that you test has that heavy panoramic roof. I don't think most people realize how heavy those panoramic roofs are, I mean the glass on those things are very thick. There was an old video on TH-cam with two 2016 or 2017 F-150s. Both trucks had the same configuration, drivetrain, gears and etc. The only difference was the panoramic moonroof option. If I remember correctly, the difference was 3 to 4 tenths of a second. I think we could agree that is a big difference in a drag race. I don't know if you officially weighed these trucks but in a Car and driver test, the F-150 with the panoramic roof actually weighed more than the GMC.

      Thanks for the info. We always use the door stickers to give EXACT curb weight. GVWR - Payload.
      So in this case, even despite the panoramic roof the Ford is still the lighter truck.
      That said, we’ve said many times that if the trucks have different options, the outcome of the race could possibly change (trim levels, differential ratios, altitude, etc)

There’s no denying that the PowerBoost is faster than the GMC, but if the Sierra launched slightly early, or even had a better launch it can take the win in a 1/4 mile race (at sea level anyways, which we’re at).

Didn’t know they removed it from the 22’s? I’ve accidentally hit 103 MPH getting on the interstate before realizing my speed. It will absolutely shit and get from 60-100 MPH. We're not sure why this specific truck didn't have sport mode. We've looked around online and apparently we're not the only ones either. Could have had something to do with the chip shortage, as there are also multiple people that have confirmed that their '22 indeed has sport mode (we filmed this race when the truck was basically brand new and had just been purchased). And with regards to the speed limiter, that apparently depends on the tires that the truck has from the factory. Our truck was electronically limited to 158kph (98mph) but we've heard of others that have a higher limit.

    You have bigger wheels on the Ford and the bed cover on the GMC makes it have better Aero. Take the bed cover off and have the same wheels on both. • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. I can see where you’re coming from but take the following into consideration:
      Both wheel/tire packages on the trucks are factory setups. And, the biggest factor in tire/wheel combo’s, is that overall diameter on both trucks is the same (both on 33’s with an aggressive factory setup). So you’re not going to see any difference there.
      Re: the bed cover, we tried that in another race and for us, it didn’t make a difference. Nothing measurable in the 1/4 mile anyways. Not sure how TFL saw a difference… we raced a PowerBoost vs. A new EcoBoost, and tried exactly that; cover off and on, and nothing changed.
      The playing field for this race is very level, with the Sierra being an AT4 and the Ford coming with a factory 33” tire package (same as the Sierra).
      If the Sierra was on street tires/not an AT4 then you’d be completely correct.
      Bottom line, the 10 speed 6.2’s at sea level are fast trucks. They run neck and neck with a PowerBoost (PB is faster but by a hair) as shown in another video we did here:
      th-cam.com/video/0BxjeqNgPw4/w-d-xo.html
      We try to keep these races as fair as possible but we’re doing this in the real world. We race vehicles as we can find them. Although in this case, it is quite a fair matchup as both trucks are 100% stock on factory 33’s.

      I know it's been a while, but the box cover does add some weight, I am sure mine is over a hundred pounds. Tires can be the same diameter, but one can still be heavier depending on it's composition. Have seen 9n here the mention of these trucks can have so many configurations that weight can vary quite a bit on the same body style, very true, lot of people don't take that into consideration.

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@garys2157 in a race like this, where the GM won by such a huge margin, a box cover is not going to change the outcome of the race. That’s proven by when we switched drivers. No difference at all in the 1/4 mile times, despite the weight difference in the drivers (around 70lbs)
      Additionally, the tires are both an aggressive oem setup, and overall diameter is the same. So they are both heavy, “off road” tires, which actually makes this race more even than if we had touring tires on one, and mud tires on the other.
      If the race was very close, then you are absolutely correct, these things could change the outcome. But the Chevy won so easily and by such a big margin (even in the rolling race) that these factors we’re talking about wouldn’t be able to change the outcome of the race.

      Trucks are interesting. And depending on options, trim level, rear end ratios, etc, these can all change how a truck performs.
      Altitude and age are big too, considering the Ford has boost and performs much better at higher altitudes. And the Sierra didn’t start coming with a 10 speed transmission until very recently (which made the truck far quicker).
      Gotta consider all of these things. There’s no doubt that changing some of the factors listed above could effect the results of the race, but in our specific scenario, with the trucks we had and at sea level, the GM won.

    The GM is not the faster truck....less torque, heavier, and geared like a car

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We did everything possible to see if the outcome of the race changed, but no matter what we tried, the Sierra came out on top.
      We tried brake torquing at various RPM’s, 2WD, 4WD, traction control on/off, switching drivers, rolling race, etc.
      You can say the GM is slower all you want but when we lined them up, it was faster.
      That said, due to all of the different options that are available with trucks these days, be it rear end ratio, trim level, gearing, etc. it’s very possible that changing these factors could impact which truck wins. All we know is that when we raced these two specific trucks, the Sierra we had beat the F150.
      The F150 wins from 0-60mph but then the GM takes the 1/4 mile after that

      @@KingdomAuto you have two unicorns. Every other YT video shows the opposite...I dont have a 6.2, but I had a 4.8 and currently have a 6.0, and the smaller Fords make the larger GM engines look foolish

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @workct4102 well you’ve gotta say we have 4 unicorns then… because we also raced a PowerBoost against a 2021 6.2 AT4 and the AT4 put down the same numbers. PowerBoost just barely edged out the Sierra while having 3.73 gearing.
      Just take into consideration when watching videos like the ones TFL truck posts, that they’re way up in the Rockies, likely over 5000 feet above sea level. That will severely diminish the performance of the 6.2 being that it’s naturally aspirated.
      There are a handful of videos showing the 6.2 AT4/Trailboss laying down similar numbers in the 1/4 mile to what we got with ours as well.
      It’s got nothing to do with “unicorns” and everything to do with gearing, altitude and options that are on the trucks.
      There’s no doubt that a new 3.5 F150 can take a 6.2 depending on those factors listed above. But you also have to agree that the 6.2 has the ability to take the F150 in a race as well. There’s simply no denying that.
      Bottom line, there are a ton of variables at play when lining trucks up to race. In our case, the Sierra was easily the faster truck. I’m sure in a different scenario, with trucks that came with different options, etc, the Ford could also pull out a win. But you can’t just claim that the Ford is always the faster truck when that simply just isn’t true.
      Here’s the video of the AT4 Vs the PowerBoost for reference:

      @@workct4102 as I’ve said several times now, there are many factors that can influence and change how fast a truck can be. You can go buy 5 different 3.5 F150’s and depending on options, rear ends, towing packages, trim levels, etc, they could all lay down different times in the 1/4 mile. And that’s before factoring in the altitude of the race.
      If you race them thousands of feet above sea level like TFL does, the forced induction vehicles are going to destroy the naturally aspirated vehicles.
      We race right at sea level so that also plays into things.
      Bottom line, both trucks are very fast. But there are many factors that can change their 1/4 mile time.
      For us, both times we have raced a 3.5 EcoBoost against a new 6.2 Sierra, the GM came out on top.
      We’re both Ford people too, both of us would take the F150 over the Sierra. We wanted the Ford to win but we’re also unbiased when we race, and we line up these vehicles to have a good time, and see which one is truly faster.
      In this specific race, the GM is the faster truck

      Interesting. We haven’t ever tested a Raptor. But yes we did find that the 6.2 won against a standard 3.5.
      When at altitude the 3.5 would have a huge advantage with forced induction, we’re thinking that this is why TFL Truck shows a different result.
      Either way both are quick and capable trucks!
