I was on large amounts of antibiotics around 9 years ago. Over the next few years I became a literal zombie. My body stopped working correctly, I was toe walking, I couldn't concentrate, I felt lousy. I went on a naturopathic autism supplementation plan, which included Taurine powder and I slowly got back to around 95% of normal. That plan includes 1/6 a teaspoon (TAD) of Taurine every morning and every night. The antibiotics did permanent damage to my gut microbiome so if I stop taking the Taurine I start to get mentally confused within a couple of days and it keeps going downhill from there. BUT... no amount of heart, liver, etc would supply the amount of Taurine daily that I need. BTW... if you buy the Taurine supplement, make sure it is a powdery form and not a cyrstaline-ish powder form from certain bulk vendors. Your kidneys don't like crystals (eg: sugar, crystalline Taurine, etc.) because they have sharp edges that damage the delicate filtration system in the kidneys.

A lot of people seem to shy away from the meat content in sausages of various types. I know they're "throw away" meat, and often contain things like lips, heart, etc. even some cartilage or bone unfortunately sometimes. But those bits do have redeeming value dietarily. Eggs & dairy are really hard to beat too. Many years ago, there was a guy who ran a 5k marathon at the age of 105. The news interviewed him, and asked him jokingly what he eats. He said "hot dogs". This was during the "fat is scary" dietary craze, when everyone was eating margarine. Anyway, the reporter laughed, thinking it was a joke. But the guy's wife was there as well. He robbed the cradle, as she was only 80 or so. Anyway, she interjected "oh no, he's not joking! He only eats hotdogs for dinner".
Good point - less palatable 'offel' meats can be very tasty when treated as sausages and cured, but also noting that they tend to be meats that are usually well cooked and difficult to consume undercooked, which will obviously reduce the taurine content. You would really have to trust your butcher to eat a 'rare' sausage.
One very tasty meat that has a lot of that stuff is called SCRAPPLE. It tastes great, but it's very hard to properly cook. You need to make it into slices, but it's very hard for them to not fall apart.
Meat is a major dietary source of taurine for humans. A 3-oz. beef steak would provide 55 mg taurine, which would meet about 70% of daily taurine requirement by healthy adults. Because plants contain no taurine, abundant amounts of taurine from all kinds of meats demonstrate another important contribution that animal foods make to improving human health and well-being. It also further underscores the significance and importance of animal agriculture worldwide.
No need to demonstrate anything to anyone ! Nature says it all: 100% bioavailability to us means only one thing : animal form ! Btw, I thought eggs contained the most Taurine... well... pastured eggs I mean. ;)
@@aliendroneservices6621 I sure do eat a variety of fish, when in season, other organs/tissues (brain, tongue, bone marrow, suet etc.) some chicken and turkey and some cheese, too. But I don't eat them to get taurine.
Taurine is essential for cats and the cat food manufacturers some years ago neglected its importance it in canned food, thousands of cats died before the problem was addressed. We have four cats and they eat an egg a day. So not too big a stretch to extrapolate that to humans.
I've read that the most Taurine you can get from top-source foods is 400mg per day. Many medical talks on Taurine suggest 6000mg per day....hence supplements only.
No, this is the worst of the Taurine videos. The natural and artificial versions of Taurine are chemically identical. I won't add this one to my fountain of youth playlist, because he is knocking on the supplement form.

I was not aware of the importance of taurine for us humans Dr. Berry. Thank you for enlightening me about the human need also sir... But I foster cats and kittens for a couple local animal shelters and also fostered for a 501(c)3 rescue group so for many years I have been aware that a deficiency of taurine can cause eye problems, heart problems, or structural problems with the bones and joints. So I'm always checking labels on any cat/kitten food that I buy or that is donated to me to be sure that pregnant or nursing mom and her offspring are not being offered a diet deficient in taurine...
Don't feed your cats or kittens industrial cat food. It's mostly soy or other crap. Cats need proper meat and you will find that chicken and sardines are often cheaper than packaged cat food. Your cats don't need to thank me this advice is free 😺😺
Yes, Taurine is essential for cats. Felines are “obligated carnivores.” They need to eat biological species appropriate food and not manufactured pet food. Yes, cats will live but they do not thrive on food that has little nutritional value for them. Cats require meat and organ meats..preferably RAW. If cats are fed biological species appropriate food, then they do not require taurine supplements.
I've been eating beef heart for a while now and honestly it taste amazing. I'm Carnivore myself so some advice for those that want to try and mix it up with different meats, beef heart is definitely worth the try!

Thank you for this information Dr. Berry. I have a bacterial infection called "klebsiella aerogenes" which is linked to severe taurine (amino acid) deficiency. The infection is highly resistant to antibiotics. I cut back on animal product in place of legumes a while ago but will try to incorporate more quality organic animal sources that you have listed.
Hi Randi, you may want to look into GSE (grapefruit seed extract, not grape seed extract- they’re different things). GSE is a wide spectrum antibacterial, anti fungus, anti viral, any yeast etc. it can be taken internally to treat all sorts of GI issues/infections etc. I personally have been using it for years for flu and other things. I also had a few GI track advanced testing done including GI360 which is considered to be the most comprehensive test available today. Whenever they find anything they test bacteria/viruses to different drugs (commercial antibiotics etc) and natural options - GSE almost always comes on top as the most effective! There’s a paper called “Antibacterial Mode of Action of Grapefruit Seed Extract against Local Isolates of Beta-Lactamases-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and its Potential Application”. Google it. I know it’s a different type of klebsiella, but I’m pretty sure the results would be somewhat similar. Give it a go. Don’t trust the doctors and all their “antibiotic resistant”, “incurable” or any other bs they like to parrot. The only reason it’s “resistant” or “hard to treat” is because they haven’t come up with a pill they could patent to make money. There are plenty of other options available to treat the issue but they won’t ever tell you because it doesn’t bring moneys to their pockets.
Keep in mind things may get worse before it gets better. Sometimes people have flu type symptoms or stomach upset etc after starting taking GSE or similar supplements. The bad ‘bugs’ start dying off, they rebel or cause die off toxicity or something like that, so keep this in mind, reduce the dosage and increase slowly.
I never thought about the way i eat, I have simply always ate what my body told me to eat. Ironically, I have been eating all of these food almost exclusively. I never liked plants, could never fathom being a vegan, and I didnt realize it at the time but I guess I live a carnivore diet lifestyle. I am 50 years old now and I still snowboard, sk8board and look like I might be 35 years old when I shave and clean up lol. I normally outwork most of my workmates and besides my teeth which I am slowly killing with coffee, I feel great. No disease, no health problems, and no sickness and I havent been to a doctor for longer than I can remember, no need. I also never vaxxed, and never will. I have felt awful for years just started supplementing Taurine and I feel tons better. So supplements aren't all bad. Just gotta make sure it's a reputable company.
You can get some powder and supplement it. We don't even get fresh kills so it's probably a good idea to supplement taurine: 2g - 6g per day. You can break it up some too.
I heard a study was completed in June 2023 which suggested 500mg-3gm per day being a safe and essential dosage, hope you can find and review if it is worth our attention. Thanks Dr. Berry!
TAURINE is an essential amino acid for DOGS, but it is very rare to find it even in premium dog foods. Raw freeze dried turkey hearts are the best source for dogs. Unfortunately, American commercial production causes MOST POULTRY TO CARRY SALMONELLA, which is parthenogenic, at least in humans.
Shellfish have some of the highest taurine content, especially scallops. Whether you cook them or eat them raw, 100 grams of scallops can have up to 827 milligrams of taurine. Other good options include clams at 520 milligrams and mussels at up to 655 milligrams for the same portion.Jun 12, 2023

I have a cautionary story about shellfish....It also contains very high levels of mercury. My brother lived in an area where eating seafood was an everyday, almost every meal, occurrence. He seriously gave himself mercury poisoning. His levels were high enough to make him feel unwell. He had to convince his doctor to test him for that. Mercury poisoning is the reason why tuna fish is not recommended for children under the age of two and also not recommended for adults more than a couple of times per month. Personally, of this list of foods, I'd stick to eggs. Brewer's yeast would be okay in a smoothie I guess.
Sprats, sardines, anchovies, herring are low in mercury contamination epically wild caught from north Atlantic or Pacific. From Korea or Japan. But they still have mercury. Twice or three times a week.

I’ve sure heard of Taurine ! Cats cannot live without Taurine. I had afib and researched what to do about it. I used Taurine and potassium and magnesium to heal my heart. And yes they were supplements because I did not feel like eating enough food to do what I needed to do and that right quick. I can never eat anything with its blood because I try to always stay kosher.
Meat from the grocery store doesn't have blood in it, at least in the US. All animals are drained of blood when slaughtered, because the blood spoils quickly. The red liquid you see coming out of beef is not blood. It's the myoglobin, the liquid inside of muscle cells that makes the muscle look red.
I started drinking an energy drink with taurine in it, and noticed my sense of smell started coming back. It's been 95% gone since I had the flu in 1985! I'm a vegetarian for over 30 years and haven't been eating eggs so to prevent a brain cholesterol problem in my arteries from getting worse. I know the brain has tons of cholesterol, but I'm spooked. Anyway, I'm clearly one of those individuals who need taurine. The drink also has caffeine and vitamins, but I have those in my diet already. So it must be the taurine making the difference.
The natural and artificial versions of Taurine are chemically identical, but I still try to get it from meat and foods as much as I can. The supplement just isn't available in stores. It seems Red Bull will give you the highest amount of Taurine for the smallest amount of caffeine.
Does it also contain Zinc? The senses if smell and taste are partially controlled by a Zinc- based metalloenzyme( CaV6) ; Carbonic Anhydrase V6. One of the reasons "loss of smell/taste" is a COVID symptom is that most of the Zinc in your body is used up to fight the infection initially. Google it!😁
Yes, eat the seaweed like a fish. Life evolved from the sea, and this is Nature's way of telling Vegans they have failed, and need to do evolution all over again.
Taurine is synthesised naturally by the liver. Vegan women manage to produce the highest source of taurine found in a foodstuff without consuming any presynthesised taurine, and as a bonus wholefood vegans, on average, enjoy longer, healthier lives with a significant extention in healthy years life.
@@fredfredrickson5436 Thats a lie, and you produce it naturally until you get older, then you don't. Just because you produce it naturally doesn't mean higher levels don't help you. This is why they never fat in Japan and live such long lives. Vegans do not get Taurine.

i like chinese approach to cooking - chop meat really finley and cook it fast on high heat . cow heart cooks this way in like a 1-2 minutes preserving much micronutrients and stays soft
High heat will cause formation of AGES in food. That's unhealthy, and using this method religiously will eventually stack this harmful components up to the point you can't eliminate all of them. This causes diseases, heart diseases, diabetes, kidney failure and more.
The video recommended that vegans might want to eat brewer's yeast, bugs or algae but failed to mention seaweed. Many common varieties of seaweed contain comparable amounts of taurine as meat and eggs.
Doctor Berry, have you ever tried raw milk? I'm asking because lately I've seen countless people figure out that they can tolerate and love raw milk and dairy but can't tolerate pasteurized dairy at all. I've been on a beef muscle meat and liver diet for a year now and have decided to experiment a bit with raw milk and for some reason it doesn't really mess with my what we call 'carb cravings'- I still do OMAD no problem and the milk is doing me nothing but wonders. Pasteurized milk would always give me stomach cramps if not worse things, but this 'superfood' is just making my life a lot better currently and as I mentioned, been hearing the exact same thing from a decent number of people lately. Would really appreciate if you could one day dig a bit deeper into this. Thanks!
I've been drinking 2 liters of raw milk for every day for 15 years. Never got sick once. Never even aged. Throw the water bottle away and get your h20 from raw milk. And really the water in our body and cows milk I believe is h2037.
@@el.don1975 Couldn't agree more friend! I've realised that I can live without water no problem by drinking raw milk instead. It actually hydrates me much more I've found.
I started having raw milk recently and it's great. I honestly don't think Lactose intolerance is a thing. I think it's intolerance to pasteurized milk because all the good stuff is destroyed, including the enzyme present in raw dairy that helps us digest lactose. If someone has a sensitivity to raw dairy the protein present must be A1 beta-casein and not the usually A2. Sorry for the rant lol. We have always consumed raw dairy and pasteurisation is recent and destroying our health.
Seaweed has Taurine in it and you can get different seaweed from the supermarket or where ever you live in the world to buy food from the shop. Put it in your salad etc.
To maintain sufficient taurine levels, eat plenty of fish, fresh meat, and organ meats that are not overcooked. But this is difficult for many people and so supplementation may be necessary. For more info, see numerous videos by Harry Serpanos.

Thanks. Can you share the studies that recommend 6000mg?

@@catmate8358, Just to add that because cats are carnivores, to skip the kibble.
I have heard of taurine, because it’s essential for cats.
Try supplements don't be one of the people who contribute to the suffering to animals. The legumes comment made me think you took that positive step

Red Bull 😮
Thanks Again Ken Berry. Good to know!
Do you drink this energy drink that contains taurine eveyday? I'd like to try on that later. My only fear is, it might make me unable to sleep.

FYI for vegans, seaweed is a decent source of taurine as well. One sheet of nori has about 40 mgs.

Raw dairy is anti-inflammatory and pasteurized milk is inflammatory.
