For people's info. Dva's shield can block Roadhog's, Mcree's, Soldier 76's, Pharah's, and Reaper's specials. It can also negate Hanzo's arrow for his. But once it has summoned the dragon it doesn't block the dragon at all.
D.Va's ultimates actually charge separately, so you don't need to be stingy about using your ultimate if you've lost your mech and don't want to die in order to get a new one.
Pretty good vid, but you left one thing out that I feel SHOULD be mentioned... D.Va can use her defense matrix WHILE using boosters. Pretty effective for offensive relocation while maintaining forward defense. Keep this in mind.

You can save your team and depending of the distance you pin the mecha, you can survive with the barrier. +Minotux in some ways I agree, but try getting insanely close and going for headshots (always headshots). The damage drops insanely fast if they even take a few steps back. They're practically a melee weapon
+Minotux I think her Ult takes to long to load... compared to Pharah (which is a OP in her own class) and than the other ults are far more usefull than hers. Quite unfair.
+Minotux I think their damage is just fine. So do all the Roadhogs who've pulled me in only to find themselves dead from my headshots. While the cannon's damage isn't great at range, they can still be used to herd the enemy quite effectively.
+TsunaTsurugi The ultimate loads up faster the more damage you do. If you're using D.Va to harrass the enemy in close quarters it's fairly quick. The key is to constantly be in combat and use the environment to your advantage. Too many play D. Va as an out in the open tank, but she's best as one who steps around the corner to provide "oh shit" moments. At least that's my experience with her.
You're at least twice as efficient at long range when not in mech-mode. Her weapon works pretty much like Lucio's and can sometimes score you a kill at a distance

I loved playing her in the open beta, but I felt that she was a little bit underpowered, you know big headshot hitbox, you have be close distance to deal dmg, and ult that charges that one second too long. But still she is awesome ^^

Just played the open beta today. Love D.Va and Pharah. Did not know you could Jet Boost + Self-destruct. I've been doing it the hard way of running in, ejecting and running like hell lol. Got the Quadra doe.
+Azir yo, about the jet boost + self destruct. I have a good tactic for it (I havent tried it yet because i found out about it after the open beta was closed). What you can do to make sure diva's ultimate eliminates everyone is aim your jet boost up then use the ult. To make sure it gets everybody around without anything blocking it.
The World of Warcraft Death Knight Kinda. Wound up doing that by mistake once but it goes too high. Only killed one person that was already near death. Firing it only really works when you know they must come a certain way or if you put it around and objective that you can't get close too.
i feel like the changes aren't that big a deal to warrant an update. a couple simple annotations should suffice. the defense matrix is now a right-click ability and is active when held, depletes while active, and instead of a cooldown it recharges. a fully charged defense matrix lasts 4 seconds, and it takes 10 seconds to recharge after being fully depleted. a toggle option has been added to controls. ultimate cost has been reduced, explosion time is now 3 seconds, and no longer damages the d.va player who activated it. done and done. you're welcome.
Defense matrix can be useful in countering Roadhog's Chain Hook, and shotgun _one-two punch_. Sometimes you can get it off if the player delays for a split second before firing their shotgun. However if it's a good player, don't get your hopes up. The times that it does work, saves your mech, and turns the tide of the engagement giving you a fighting chance of icing that fool. As that Roadhog has just delivered you to his face, so you can unload max DPS into it. That goes both ways with his shotgun, so use the surprise to your advantage, aim true, and don't hesitate.
You forgot to mention that if your mech is destroyed, if you're QUICK enough, you can still pop your ulti if it's up while you're bailing out. Works as a great mindgame. Usually kills you as well, but in my experience not a whole lot of people expect it and it splits teams apart HARD.
At the start of some map when you are attacking, I go over the choke point to cap.Most of the time all of the enemy run back to defend, allowing your team to push forward and take them from behind.
I haven't played that much of overwatch, but I think D.Va is one of the rare hero in overwatch that is extremely versatile. She can flank and even 1v1 a reaper, flank enemies, kill snipers with ease and is a great tank. She also gets in and out of combat easily because of her booster's low cooldown, making her a hard target to kill. Plus, the D.Va's pistol is extremely strong which helps her get kills, ultimately giving her mechs quite quickly. She's still terrible in long range combat, but I think she's already a bit on the "too strong" side of heroes. Of course, I may be entirely wrong here but that's just my opinion :P

Cynical Nerds I mained D.Va in the closed beta and I still think she's great :P Her skills still seem really good imo. I personally loved her quick in-and-out of combat style. The only thing I feel underwhelmed is the ult of D.Va. But the damage of it is already too extreme to be tweaked and it also serves a purpose in the game to force the enemies to evade the area. I'm rambling too much haha Anyways, I think she's still very versatile!

Think about it, in smash bores brawl, her super move was a huge blast of energy that killed just about anything it touched, but it destroyed the suit to do so, forcing her to use her much faster and more agile natural form at the cost of greatly reduced damage and attack options, and in this form, her super returns her suit to her. Screw the Tracer controversy, Blizzard just complete stole an entire character idea from Nintendo XD

She is the only tank that has little to no effect for long ranged things. I think she is totally outclassed by every other tank, and should not even be in the category, thoughts?
Lil Lob I would have to disagree. First of all, all the tanks have little to no effect long range. Roadhog's right click, hook and Zarya's right click is either not as effective or easy to evade. Plus, those two are also used in medium range than long. Secondly, D.Va's shield makes her a really tough hero and her shift makes her incredibly mobile to easily hit. Lastly, I think you've misunderstood her role in the game. She's definitely not a dedicated tank like Reinhardt or Zarya. She's more of a secondary tank that focuses on flanking enemies and killing snipers. In addition, she's great with breaking enemy defenses with other heroes since her 2 second E skill can give other long range dealers enough time to kill Torbjorn's tower or a Bastion. If a D.Va just stands around in an open terrain, then that player is playing her wrong in the first place :P
Very important point to add that Self-Destruct only damages enemies in view of the ult. If you are standing few meters beside an exploding mech, but there is an object(wall, column, larger object) between you, then you'll get no damage from the ult. Hence very easy to avoid it!
+Soniboy84 It turns out that really thin obstacles can stop the explosions, you can be very close to the exploding mech without dying if you are hiding behind something like a lamp post.
Now that I really think about it, the lack of Uber-drops is really stupid because it makes it an inevitability. I TF2 and Splatoon, the Ubers are really big because they're hard to get and you can loose them very easily. It also removes the mechanic of trying to drop enemy Ubers which is a very exciting and rewarding thing to do in TF2 and Splatoon. It's kind of like how if a players sucks at a time-Smash, they just get given a free Final Smash, you didn't earn your big super-move, you just got given it. You could probably repeatedly go gun-a-blazing, get a load of damage, die and repeat until you get your Ultimate as an inevitability and then use it to get play of the game.
Besides which, if you play better you get your ultimate more often, since you charge it by doing damage. A bad team will maybe only get 1 or 2 through the match, while a good team will get a lot from simply damaging the other team so much.
Really good guide, i hated D.Va initially but then started playing much more aggressive with her which led to more success and more fun. Only thing i'd like to add is the combo, when flying into an enemy don't forget to instant melee In terms of the current meta i think D.Va is on the weak side for sure, her aggressive but slow style easily gets shutdown by a coordinated team. I also feel her damage fall off is a bit to much, you can only really feel her damage when you are straight in someone's face and headshotting constantly. In a meta where once genji and now tracer dominates there isn't that much need for a flanking, kill-chasing tank. Also the "head" of the mech is insane, she gets constantly headshotted with no effort. She is hella fun and to a certain extent quite effective in your average quickmatch though.
+Fake Faker Definitely agree. If you watch the vid closely I do melee sometimes after after flying in to them but with the melee damage being nerfed to 30 not sure what's better so I didn't mention it. After playing a lot of her for this video I feel her damage fall off should be buffed for sure. She feels super weak even when you get on top of someone because they just run away while you crawl towards them shooting. She is fun and her ult is so strong but I don't think it makes up her weaknesses. I did see her in one of the Gosu Gamers weekly recently, I think it was a defending team on Hollywood after the point had been captured and they were well in to payload mode. But they lost, so I don't think it went well. :P
With boosters, Boost at someone shoot once and then meele. Which does about 100 damage right away, which is good for killing tracer or zenyatta leaving them at only 50 health!
Also, another huge part of D.Va is that you can use the defense matrix while flying, making you a nearly invincible rocket. This is great to charge at a bastion to get behind him and kill him.
Also, in the half second window before you eject out of your mech when it is destroyed you can use your ult, meaning instead of running around without it you can get a new one almost immediately.
Her defense matrix is quite underrated, in some ways its better than reins barrier, blocking ults and completely swallowing them are two different things, dva can swallow zaryas ult, rein cant block it, mccrees ult can destroy reins barrier, while the smallest flicker of defense matrix can swallow all of his shots, now in some ways reins barrier is better, its larger, and can block beam weapons, keep in mind though you also move much slower and dva can boost and matrix at the same time overall in the current meta a dva is better than rein in most situations because of her versatilty, being able to dish 168dps which is comparable to roadhogs dps while being able to tank and be super mobile which roadhog cant and compared to reins 75dps and mobile in a straight line only dva should be a better pick in most situations
+Jonas Rom I'm pretty sure they stand for points, when healing or blocking the number next to the fire is the amount of healing or blocking you are doing. If you score an elimination the number represents the percentage of damage you dealt to the other player. The amount of kills you have is your elimination percentage divided by 100, thus, if you get ten 50 points, you have a 5 player killstreak.
She's not good with defense against a sustained attack, but she is very good with escorting a payload. Especially with a Reinhardt, mercy, torbjorn turret, or bastion. Her armor soaks up a lot of damage and her defense matrix is good for defending against barrages or burst damage while she sits on top of the payload. Pair with Reinhardt for a secondary shield while his recharges. Pair with mercy for obvious reasons. The pair with static defense is less effective, but with a good team it can really get the payload moving.
I don't necessarily know why, but whenever I play DVa I almost always score more kills out of my Mech than in it. I've always found the mech to be pretty useless, given its large hit box and low damage output and range.
its because her out of mech pistol has more accuracy, distance, and damage. shes still a weaker character out of suit, but it might be that you are trying to be a gunner while in suit, and she is actually played like a melee assassin
Yeah, she tends to get focused down pretty quick. She's A tank, but not THE tank. As Zarya, I have never ran into one who gave me trouble, just kill the mech and hope to spam the chewy center to death with some plasma. Do good players choose her and dominate? I don't think I've seen it.

You would think Dva would be good against Soldier 76, but over the course of 40+ levels, that has not been my experience. As a 76 primary, the Dva typically charges in my face to maximize her DPS, but I just dump helix into her and then full auto her head hitbox while moving evasively until the mech explodes. Ironically, I find the a good Dva on foot pilot to be more of a challenge than the mech. However, I burn down the mech so fast that 80%+ of the time I still have enough health left to take out the pilot. Certainly, once my helix recharges, it will be game over for the pilot if she isn't dead by that point already as a good hop and ground shoot at the pilot's feet with helix will typically finish the job. I don't recall the last time I lost a duel against Dva as 76.
+Slam Berry D.Va is one of the stronger heroes atm. She definitely does not need a buff. She has good survivability in her mech, stays in the fight even after that is destroyed, does a lot of damage in close combat (which is where she belongs as she is a tank) and has a devastating ult which a tremendous range. Giving her more range would make her way too powerful and is not what her role is about. Also, she has her boosters to move around quickly which have a low cooldown which make it easy to hunt down low health targets. So there is no need to remove her slow.
+Senshinobi I completly agree, give D.Va a buff and she becomes overpowered. Nerf her and she becomes useless, she is perfetly fine as she is. Nothing is wrong with her.

I look at Winston and I look at Dva. They both are meant to do the exact same thing. rush the back line. The issue is winston with his shield has much more effective health and his leap is on a shorter cooldown so he can get in kill say a widowmaker and leap out. Dva does not feel as tanky and every experience I have had playing her was the target simply running out of range because of the slowdown when shooting. Winston just does what Dva is suppose to do but a lot better. I think they need to remove the slow and increase the recharge rate of her mech.
yeah i was playing as zarya and had a lot of energy and got a bit cocky,i saw a d.va without a mech and made fun of her behind her back without her noticing,little did i know she was looking for a safe place to call in her new mech she called it in and i got knocked off the map.and as if that wasnt bad enough she got play of the game and i was in it :(
A bit late to the party but I have a question for confirmation. I don't have the beta but have watch a lot of it, and from what I can tell Diva's out of mech and in mech ultimate charge independently. What I mean to say is if you lose your mech while having 90% ultimate you will eject with 0%. If you then build up to 100% and get a new mech you will enter it with 90% charge to wards self destruct. Again I don't have beta access so I may have been missing something so feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.

Yes it is. You can hold down a small doorway for a few seconds with it. Think about it as destroying the bullets and other projectiles before they reach you.
nice quick guide, but i think you miss 2 minor detail 1. Defense matrix make Dva unable to fire 2. Using Mech Self Destruct will eject Dva with already Call Mech ult ready
When Diva is in her mech, does she have a 'headshot' hitbox? I don't know if I should be aiming for her actual head, or some weak point on the mech a la bastion.
Can D.Va's defence matrix be used to protect a single character? Like, point your defense matrix towards the one you want to protect and all of the projectiles will disappear and not hit him. Or does the defence matrix not act like a wall and just blocks projectiles that come from one direction.
Guess this guide has to be redone now that her Defense Matrix has changed substantially. She is much tankier now and her Self Destruct is harder to escape from.

+DaaaahWhoosh as someone who has played the game, i can say that while it's annoying to have to kill the mech then her, she get's out pretty quick, and it's less about waiting for her to get out and more about catching up with her because when she ejects, it sends her reasonably far away--enough for a small headstart when trying to get away from an exploding mech or nearby enemies.
+DaaaahWhoosh it can be especially annoying if you get her down to almost dead, only for her to use her self destruct, eject, kill you, then instantly call in a replacement mech and go back to full health. Her ultimate is basically a distraction "Oh she ejected, guess I killed her.....wait a minute", a AOE damage dealer and a full heal if done right
I don't play that many shooters. I mostly picked D.Va because I don't like to reload. Also I died quickly with other characters (although I haven't tried any other tanks)
I have to disagree with D.VA's ultimate rarely killing enemies. Quite a few times I've managed to kill an entire team with my ultimate (against real players, not AI). Just last night, the enemy team was escorting the payload through the wild west area in Hollywood. I jumped onto a roof, dropped down in the middle of them and used the confusion to set off my ultimate right in the middle of them. Only Reinhadt (the shield/hammer guy) survived. Later on I flew D.VA over a wall and into a defense point and again, set it off in the middle of the room, killing 4. The only one to survive was Zenyata, who panicked and ran out of the defense point, only to get shot by the rest of the team as they moved in take the defense point. If you get them when they're in an enclosed space or surprise them and use the confussion of battle to set it off (doubt some of them even understood who was attacking them. they were too busy looking for any other players to notice the mech glowing) then the ultimate can destroy entire teams. I know we're not supposed to have a single fave, but D.VA is my instant go-to hero when I start a match. She's great at causing chaos among the enemies (as you said) and goes from a great close range tank to a great long range sniper out of her mech. There's been times where I've had my call mech ultimate charged, but still carried on staying out of my mech and killing enemy players for a while longer
They're bad if they're getting killed by the ult. I hardly ever see anyone get killed by it. It's more useful as an area denial tool, and is really powerful at the end of a payload or KotH, since if you put it on the payload/objective the enemy team can't get near it
tbf, I think a lot of people have learned now how to avoid certain ults. Like we know to run n hide when it's high noon, and we know to spread out when we hear the RIP tire. I imagine it'd be a lot harder to get a team kill with her ult now (I've been too busy to play much recently. I played a little for Ana, but Ana and Widowmaker are too skill based for me. I love being a sniper in games where I can take my time to line up that perfect 5 mile headshot, but I can't snipe moving human targets for shit)
So, I really want to get into playing D.Va but I feel like it's too hard to deal her damage. I boost right up to a Widowmaker, start firing, and she strafes left and hops up and down. I'm too close to actually land shots on such a nimble target. This might be due to my lag on my crappy laptop, but is this something I'm doing wrong or what?
+Nicolton oddly enough, it looks like she's dealing so little damage from your perspective but the end game screen shows she deals a nice amount. problem is.... i've had problems of finishing off enemies because of the drop of movement speed XD
D. Va ultimate outside doesn't recharge immediately after it explode. It need to kill at least one person otherwise you must charge your mech the same as she ejected because of mech damage.
D.va needs a buff, her boost cooldown should be reduced as it is essential for getting up close to actually do some damage, her guns should not slow you down either and she needs a damage buff too imo, either more range or increased damage. I like the character but using her it just feels like everything outguns you and when you do get close enough to kill someone you either get killed straight after by their team mate or you lose your mech
I played online for the first time last night, me and a friend both played as Bastion turret mode on top of the moving payload, it's felt dirty, we just mowed everybody down.

I disagree about Roadhog countering her. I played her through the entire Beta with her and she absolutely shreds him apart. He always lost against her in robot suit.. (D.va actually wins lots of 1v1 but Roadhog seemed to be the most easy to pick up the kill. I even want him to hook me so I can easily score headshot to him and burn him in seconds. She's also as good in attack as in defense, and is design to be a mobile tank. Nice video though.

Just played the open beta today. Love D.Va and Pharah. Did not know you could Jet Boost + Self-destruct. I've been doing it the hard way of running in, ejecting and running like hell lol. Got the Quadra doe.
+Azir yo, about the jet boost + self destruct. I have a good tactic for it (I havent tried it yet because i found out about it after the open beta was closed). What you can do to make sure diva's ultimate eliminates everyone is aim your jet boost up then use the ult. To make sure it gets everybody around without anything blocking it.
The World of Warcraft Death Knight Kinda. Wound up doing that by mistake once but it goes too high. Only killed one person that was already near death. Firing it only really works when you know they must come a certain way or if you put it around and objective that you can't get close too.

I didn't know you could send the self destructing bot flying off, I thought you had to drop it as a stationary bomb and run. This changes things...

i feel like the changes aren't that big a deal to warrant an update. a couple simple annotations should suffice.
the defense matrix is now a right-click ability and is active when held, depletes while active, and instead of a cooldown it recharges. a fully charged defense matrix lasts 4 seconds, and it takes 10 seconds to recharge after being fully depleted. a toggle option has been added to controls.
ultimate cost has been reduced, explosion time is now 3 seconds, and no longer damages the d.va player who activated it.

Defense matrix can be useful in countering Roadhog's Chain Hook, and shotgun _one-two punch_. Sometimes you can get it off if the player delays for a split second before firing their shotgun. However if it's a good player, don't get your hopes up. The times that it does work, saves your mech, and turns the tide of the engagement giving you a fighting chance of icing that fool. As that Roadhog has just delivered you to his face, so you can unload max DPS into it. That goes both ways with his shotgun, so use the surprise to your advantage, aim true, and don't hesitate.
You forgot to mention that if your mech is destroyed, if you're QUICK enough, you can still pop your ulti if it's up while you're bailing out. Works as a great mindgame. Usually kills you as well, but in my experience not a whole lot of people expect it and it splits teams apart HARD.
Nothings better than flying with defense matrix activated at a pharah who is using her ultimate
At the start of some map when you are attacking, I go over the choke point to cap.Most of the time all of the enemy run back to defend, allowing your team to push forward and take them from behind.
Hah, it's funny that I'm pretty sure everyone would much prefer D.Va just stick two of her pistols where the mech's fusion cannons currently are.
It would have been good to mention that D.Va is still vulnerable while entering her robot, but only from behind.
So.. the only option is to smack the booty?

I haven't played that much of overwatch, but I think D.Va is one of the rare hero in overwatch that is extremely versatile. She can flank and even 1v1 a reaper, flank enemies, kill snipers with ease and is a great tank. She also gets in and out of combat easily because of her booster's low cooldown, making her a hard target to kill. Plus, the D.Va's pistol is extremely strong which helps her get kills, ultimately giving her mechs quite quickly.
She's still terrible in long range combat, but I think she's already a bit on the "too strong" side of heroes. Of course, I may be entirely wrong here but that's just my opinion :P
+jinkim96 It will be interesting to see if you still feel the same after playing a few more hours of her. I personally think she needs small buff, but it could just be that her playstyle just hasn't gelled with me very well.
Cynical Nerds I mained D.Va in the closed beta and I still think she's great :P Her skills still seem really good imo. I personally loved her quick in-and-out of combat style. The only thing I feel underwhelmed is the ult of D.Va. But the damage of it is already too extreme to be tweaked and it also serves a purpose in the game to force the enemies to evade the area.
I'm rambling too much haha Anyways, I think she's still very versatile!
+jinkim96 Lets get one thing clear: she's Samus from Metroid(specifically the smash bros version of her). Think about it, in smash bores brawl, her super move was a huge blast of energy that killed just about anything it touched, but it destroyed the suit to do so, forcing her to use her much faster and more agile natural form at the cost of greatly reduced damage and attack options, and in this form, her super returns her suit to her. Screw the Tracer controversy, Blizzard just complete stole an entire character idea from Nintendo XD
+jinkim96 From my experience her damage is rather underwhelming for anything above point blank, and is lacking in team defense other than the 2 seconds long defensive matrix, not to mention her enormous headshot box making her easy to pick off at range. She is the only tank that has little to no effect for long ranged things. I think she is totally outclassed by every other tank, and should not even be in the category, thoughts?
Lil Lob I would have to disagree. First of all, all the tanks have little to no effect long range. Roadhog's right click, hook and Zarya's right click is either not as effective or easy to evade. Plus, those two are also used in medium range than long. Secondly, D.Va's shield makes her a really tough hero and her shift makes her incredibly mobile to easily hit. Lastly, I think you've misunderstood her role in the game. She's definitely not a dedicated tank like Reinhardt or Zarya. She's more of a secondary tank that focuses on flanking enemies and killing snipers. In addition, she's great with breaking enemy defenses with other heroes since her 2 second E skill can give other long range dealers enough time to kill Torbjorn's tower or a Bastion.
If a D.Va just stands around in an open terrain, then that player is playing her wrong in the first place :P
Very important point to add that Self-Destruct only damages enemies in view of the ult. If you are standing few meters beside an exploding mech, but there is an object(wall, column, larger object) between you, then you'll get no damage from the ult. Hence very easy to avoid it!
+Soniboy84 It turns out that really thin obstacles can stop the explosions, you can be very close to the exploding mech without dying if you are hiding behind something like a lamp post.
Now that I really think about it, the lack of Uber-drops is really stupid because it makes it an inevitability.
I TF2 and Splatoon, the Ubers are really big because they're hard to get and you can loose them very easily. It also removes the mechanic of trying to drop enemy Ubers which is a very exciting and rewarding thing to do in TF2 and Splatoon.
It's kind of like how if a players sucks at a time-Smash, they just get given a free Final Smash, you didn't earn your big super-move, you just got given it.
You could probably repeatedly go gun-a-blazing, get a load of damage, die and repeat until you get your Ultimate as an inevitability and then use it to get play of the game.
Yes, but everyone in the game is on an equal playing field, so it's just a different mechanic entirely
Besides which, if you play better you get your ultimate more often, since you charge it by doing damage. A bad team will maybe only get 1 or 2 through the match, while a good team will get a lot from simply damaging the other team so much.
When you reach 1 hp in mech mode and is about to be ejected, you can still activate self destruct especially if you have enemies up in your face
Really good guide, i hated D.Va initially but then started playing much more aggressive with her which led to more success and more fun.
Only thing i'd like to add is the combo, when flying into an enemy don't forget to instant melee
In terms of the current meta i think D.Va is on the weak side for sure, her aggressive but slow style easily gets shutdown by a coordinated team. I also feel her damage fall off is a bit to much, you can only really feel her damage when you are straight in someone's face and headshotting constantly. In a meta where once genji and now tracer dominates there isn't that much need for a flanking, kill-chasing tank. Also the "head" of the mech is insane, she gets constantly headshotted with no effort.
She is hella fun and to a certain extent quite effective in your average quickmatch though.
+Fake Faker Definitely agree. If you watch the vid closely I do melee sometimes after after flying in to them but with the melee damage being nerfed to 30 not sure what's better so I didn't mention it.
After playing a lot of her for this video I feel her damage fall off should be buffed for sure. She feels super weak even when you get on top of someone because they just run away while you crawl towards them shooting. She is fun and her ult is so strong but I don't think it makes up her weaknesses.
I did see her in one of the Gosu Gamers weekly recently, I think it was a defending team on Hollywood after the point had been captured and they were well in to payload mode. But they lost, so I don't think it went well. :P
With boosters, Boost at someone shoot once and then meele. Which does about 100 damage right away, which is good for killing tracer or zenyatta leaving them at only 50 health!
Also, another huge part of D.Va is that you can use the defense matrix while flying, making you a nearly invincible rocket. This is great to charge at a bastion to get behind him and kill him.
Also, in the half second window before you eject out of your mech when it is destroyed you can use your ult, meaning instead of running around without it you can get a new one almost immediately.
This is best used when you absolutely need to stay alive to defend a payload at the last point.

Her defense matrix is quite underrated, in some ways its better than reins barrier, blocking ults and completely swallowing them are two different things, dva can swallow zaryas ult, rein cant block it, mccrees ult can destroy reins barrier, while the smallest flicker of defense matrix can swallow all of his shots, now in some ways reins barrier is better, its larger, and can block beam weapons, keep in mind though you also move much slower and dva can boost and matrix at the same time overall in the current meta a dva is better than rein in most situations because of her versatilty, being able to dish 168dps which is comparable to roadhogs dps while being able to tank and be super mobile which roadhog cant and compared to reins 75dps and mobile in a straight line only dva should be a better pick in most situations
Does the fire actually mean anything? The +100 fire things that appear on the screen and the right bottom corner?
+Jonas Rom I'm pretty sure they stand for points, when healing or blocking the number next to the fire is the amount of healing or blocking you are doing. If you score an elimination the number represents the percentage of damage you dealt to the other player. The amount of kills you have is your elimination percentage divided by 100, thus, if you get ten 50 points, you have a 5 player killstreak.
She's not good with defense against a sustained attack, but she is very good with escorting a payload. Especially with a Reinhardt, mercy, torbjorn turret, or bastion. Her armor soaks up a lot of damage and her defense matrix is good for defending against barrages or burst damage while she sits on top of the payload. Pair with Reinhardt for a secondary shield while his recharges. Pair with mercy for obvious reasons. The pair with static defense is less effective, but with a good team it can really get the payload moving.
I don't necessarily know why, but whenever I play DVa I almost always score more kills out of my Mech than in it. I've always found the mech to be pretty useless, given its large hit box and low damage output and range.

you're not using her right
its because her out of mech pistol has more accuracy, distance, and damage. shes still a weaker character out of suit, but it might be that you are trying to be a gunner while in suit, and she is actually played like a melee assassin

I try to play with Dva but i feel like i just get melted so fast by the time i get close enough to do damage I got like no health left.
Yeah, she tends to get focused down pretty quick. She's A tank, but not THE tank. As Zarya, I have never ran into one who gave me trouble, just kill the mech and hope to spam the chewy center to death with some plasma.
Do good players choose her and dominate? I don't think I've seen it.

You would think Dva would be good against Soldier 76, but over the course of 40+ levels, that has not been my experience. As a 76 primary, the Dva typically charges in my face to maximize her DPS, but I just dump helix into her and then full auto her head hitbox while moving evasively until the mech explodes. Ironically, I find the a good Dva on foot pilot to be more of a challenge than the mech. However, I burn down the mech so fast that 80%+ of the time I still have enough health left to take out the pilot. Certainly, once my helix recharges, it will be game over for the pilot if she isn't dead by that point already as a good hop and ground shoot at the pilot's feet with helix will typically finish the job. I don't recall the last time I lost a duel against Dva as 76.
DVA needs a buff. Remove the slow when shooting and she also needs slightly more range
+Slam Berry D.Va is one of the stronger heroes atm. She definitely does not need a buff. She has good survivability in her mech, stays in the fight even after that is destroyed, does a lot of damage in close combat (which is where she belongs as she is a tank) and has a devastating ult which a tremendous range. Giving her more range would make her way too powerful and is not what her role is about. Also, she has her boosters to move around quickly which have a low cooldown which make it easy to hunt down low health targets. So there is no need to remove her slow.
+Senshinobi I completly agree, give D.Va a buff and she becomes overpowered. Nerf her and she becomes useless, she is perfetly fine as she is. Nothing is wrong with her.

I look at Winston and I look at Dva. They both are meant to do the exact same thing. rush the back line. The issue is winston with his shield has much more effective health and his leap is on a shorter cooldown so he can get in kill say a widowmaker and leap out. Dva does not feel as tanky and every experience I have had playing her was the target simply running out of range because of the slowdown when shooting. Winston just does what Dva is suppose to do but a lot better. I think they need to remove the slow and increase the recharge rate of her mech.

yeah i was playing as zarya and had a lot of energy and got a bit cocky,i saw a d.va without a mech and made fun of her behind her back without her noticing,little did i know she was looking for a safe place to call in her new mech she called it in and i got knocked off the map.and as if that wasnt bad enough she got play of the game and i was in it :(
A bit late to the party but I have a question for confirmation. I don't have the beta but have watch a lot of it, and from what I can tell Diva's out of mech and in mech ultimate charge independently. What I mean to say is if you lose your mech while having 90% ultimate you will eject with 0%. If you then build up to 100% and get a new mech you will enter it with 90% charge to wards self destruct.
Again I don't have beta access so I may have been missing something so feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.
+WaxedWolf Yea that's right they charge separately but she does retain Mech ultimate if ejected. If on 90% before being ejected she will be on 90% when she manages to call down a new Mech.

Yes it is. You can hold down a small doorway for a few seconds with it. Think about it as destroying the bullets and other projectiles before they reach you.

When Diva is in her mech, does she have a 'headshot' hitbox? I don't know if I should be aiming for her actual head, or some weak point on the mech a la bastion.

Can you call in a mech while indoors or do you have to be outside? I couldn't tell if the mech falls from the sky or teleports to your location.

Can D.Va's defence matrix be used to protect a single character?
Like, point your defense matrix towards the one you want to protect and all of the projectiles will disappear and not hit him.
Or does the defence matrix not act like a wall and just blocks projectiles that come from one direction.
Its like a wall in front of your face when you pull it, so you have to be in front of your team to shield them
Guess this guide has to be redone now that her Defense Matrix has changed substantially. She is much tankier now and her Self Destruct is harder to escape from.
I've been wondering, can you kill Dva before she ejects from her mech? Seems like it could be pretty annoying to be fighting her and have to wait for her to get out to finish the job.
+DaaaahWhoosh as someone who has played the game, i can say that while it's annoying to have to kill the mech then her, she get's out pretty quick, and it's less about waiting for her to get out and more about catching up with her because when she ejects, it sends her reasonably far away--enough for a small headstart when trying to get away from an exploding mech or nearby enemies.
+DaaaahWhoosh it can be especially annoying if you get her down to almost dead, only for her to use her self destruct, eject, kill you, then instantly call in a replacement mech and go back to full health. Her ultimate is basically a distraction "Oh she ejected, guess I killed her.....wait a minute", a AOE damage dealer and a full heal if done right

I got Play of the Game by launching my mech at a big group of enemies, killing 3 of them and destroying 4 turrets.
I don't play that many shooters. I mostly picked D.Va because I don't like to reload. Also I died quickly with other characters (although I haven't tried any other tanks)
I have to disagree with D.VA's ultimate rarely killing enemies. Quite a few times I've managed to kill an entire team with my ultimate (against real players, not AI). Just last night, the enemy team was escorting the payload through the wild west area in Hollywood. I jumped onto a roof, dropped down in the middle of them and used the confusion to set off my ultimate right in the middle of them. Only Reinhadt (the shield/hammer guy) survived. Later on I flew D.VA over a wall and into a defense point and again, set it off in the middle of the room, killing 4. The only one to survive was Zenyata, who panicked and ran out of the defense point, only to get shot by the rest of the team as they moved in take the defense point.
If you get them when they're in an enclosed space or surprise them and use the confussion of battle to set it off (doubt some of them even understood who was attacking them. they were too busy looking for any other players to notice the mech glowing) then the ultimate can destroy entire teams.
I know we're not supposed to have a single fave, but D.VA is my instant go-to hero when I start a match. She's great at causing chaos among the enemies (as you said) and goes from a great close range tank to a great long range sniper out of her mech. There's been times where I've had my call mech ultimate charged, but still carried on staying out of my mech and killing enemy players for a while longer
I very rarely get killed by her ult as anything even a signpost will block all damage coming from it
They're bad if they're getting killed by the ult. I hardly ever see anyone get killed by it. It's more useful as an area denial tool, and is really powerful at the end of a payload or KotH, since if you put it on the payload/objective the enemy team can't get near it
tbf, I think a lot of people have learned now how to avoid certain ults. Like we know to run n hide when it's high noon, and we know to spread out when we hear the RIP tire. I imagine it'd be a lot harder to get a team kill with her ult now (I've been too busy to play much recently. I played a little for Ana, but Ana and Widowmaker are too skill based for me. I love being a sniper in games where I can take my time to line up that perfect 5 mile headshot, but I can't snipe moving human targets for shit)
So, I really want to get into playing D.Va but I feel like it's too hard to deal her damage. I boost right up to a Widowmaker, start firing, and she strafes left and hops up and down. I'm too close to actually land shots on such a nimble target. This might be due to my lag on my crappy laptop, but is this something I'm doing wrong or what?
+Nicolton oddly enough, it looks like she's dealing so little damage from your perspective but the end game screen shows she deals a nice amount. problem is.... i've had problems of finishing off enemies because of the drop of movement speed XD

D. Va ultimate outside doesn't recharge immediately after it explode. It need to kill at least one person otherwise you must charge your mech the same as she ejected because of mech damage.

D.va needs a buff, her boost cooldown should be reduced as it is essential for getting up close to actually do some damage, her guns should not slow you down either and she needs a damage buff too imo, either more range or increased damage. I like the character but using her it just feels like everything outguns you and when you do get close enough to kill someone you either get killed straight after by their team mate or you lose your mech

I disagree about Roadhog countering her.
I played her through the entire Beta with her and she absolutely shreds him apart. He always lost against her in robot suit.. (D.va actually wins lots of 1v1 but Roadhog seemed to be the most easy to pick up the kill.
I even want him to hook me so I can easily score headshot to him and burn him in seconds.
She's also as good in attack as in defense, and is design to be a mobile tank.
