    Trying to be as difficult to hit as possible while being accurate with your guns is the biggest struggle when using her.

    • @alexcavazos3341
      @alexcavazos3341 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      jump and use her blinks alot. Also i noticed that the dot crosshair helps alot with tracer with accuracy which means more head shots. Also droping pulse bombs on tanks or heals healps alot or turrets and bastions. and just keep shooting and your ult is up in no time tbh.

      @starmoral5456 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Alex Cavazos I actually use the standard Cross hair with the bloom on. It helps me understand the flow of her guns. Don't know how, I just do so much better with that setup than the dot.

      @katiekaliber 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alex Cavazos you should never ingage a fight after using your blinks, the worst mistake almost every tracer makes is over using those blinks, and then dying bc they only have that recall.

  • @YourOverwatch

    Be sure to watch to the end as i do say some things earlier on that do take time to explain, tracer is a lot more complex than people think and her timings are very important in winning the game. Its hard to know who to target sometimes and it really is a case of practice makes perfect. Let us know what you think and be sure to drop a Like & Subscribe if you enjoyed!!

      I like to call that last minute pick Tracer the final stand pick. I've seen soo many games where a tracer has held overtime or stopped a capture just long enough for the rest of the team to reset, hence the name 'final stand' xP

      I think technically you're wrong about the 300hp. As you would have to be dead to actually regain 150hp...and in most situations you really let yourself only get to 50-100hp before you heal. So it's more like 200-250.
      Nit picking I know...

    • @YourOverwatch
      @YourOverwatch  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I could then argue she actually has 9999HP if you get enough rewinds without dying ;) -W

      then why didnt you in the video? because no one is talking about one who never dies, they are obv talking about health from one rewind

    Another tip I would give is to try to know the maps in as much detail as possible. She can blink in any direction so it's good to know where doorways are exactly so that way you can just blink backwards or to the side if you're in trouble without looking for the doorway. I loved the guide and gameplay! Tracer is my most played hero btw.

    I've had some real good success with Tracer on offense and defense. Really it just comes down to smart ability management and doing your best to act as a harasser, distraction, and such. Any opponents that get drawn away to deal with you are fewer for the rest of your team to deal with.

    • @dbalotin
      @dbalotin 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's all about priorities. If you dont have at least one good tanker and supporters, the Tracer realy doesnt matter that much. Dont get me wrong, a good Tracer is pretty handy, but tankers/supporters, in defense, have to be the priority. If the tracer is chasing the supporters and "breaking" the formation, you're getting the job well done... probably better than a Reinhardt that only stand still with a shield with bad positioning.

    Hey just wanted to say last night I played a game as Tracer where not only I had PotG with Tracer but 4 gold medals to boot. I kept in mind saving at least one of my blinks which really helped me out of bad situations. I still need plenty of practice with her, among every other hero, but thank you for the tips. Hope everyone who watches this series learns something new to help them too. :)

    I'd love to see an advanced winston guide- Now honestly, i love winston- and i think he's amazing. But lately it seems like there's a disconnect for a lot of people where they think because he doesn't require a lot of mechanical skill, that he suddenly doesn't require any game sense, and they try him, go in, die 500 times, and come away from it thinking, "well this character is garbage made for people who can't aim." There's a lot of people asking for winston buffs, and a large majority of people think he and his ult are some of the worst things in the game. Icarus made a great video about it but i don't know how much visibility it will get. Winston is a character that gets run by pro teams. quite often. Yet at an average level he's very rare and a lot of people think he's bad. He can't be both a high tier character and one of the worst in the game, and i certainly don't think he's the latter.

      @YourOverwatch  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @YourOverwatch  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SylemGistoe Truth! He's so key! But shooter fans expect things to die immediately when they shoot them, but Winston is more of a spacial/brawler character, like Donkey Kong from Smash Bros! -F

    Quick suggestion, you guys should totally do a video dedicated to core game ideas. Gamesense, positioning, team composition, focused fire over trash damage, picking targets, etc. A lot of people could use some in depth clarification on what these ideas mean and what they look like.

    This got more views in 5 minutes than my advanced guide got in 2 months, I need to work on my upload game!
    Really enjoyed listening to someone else's viewpoint on tracer at a somewhat high level but I do have some points of my own, being a tracer main and all that...
    First off I think trying to keep all 3 of your blinks is a bit excessive. I prefer to use a dash to get into a favorable position so that I have my third coming off of cooldown, which means I can effectively use at least 4 dashes during an engagement.
    Secondly holy crap someone else finally said it... Mei doesn't counter Tracer. If any hero gets frozen by Mei they're probably dead but that doesn't mean she counters them. It usually means there were mechanical misplays or some sort of CC involved. Really common misconception that I'm glad more people now know.
    I'd love to do a video of sorts with you guys in the future, maybe when I get my current projects uploaded and out of the way. Let me know if possible

    One thing I've found about Tracer is that she's really good for getting others' abilities on cooldown if you know what you're doing. I've gotten to a point where if I can see a Roadhog I know exactly when to blink to avoid the hook, and this can apply to almost any hero with an "instakill" ability. You have to have a good sense of how to bait it out, though. If you can figure out when that Reinhardt is charging or the Hanzo is using a Scatter arrow, you can usually blink before it kills you.

  • @mikoal

    One thing I wanted to know in this tutorial/guide is timing. Namely when to go for healers, when to protect your healers, when to attack as a group, when to flank.
    Targetting Mercy, or other healers aren't as easy once you hit higher SR and in a non KOTH map. Zen has discord, lucio's movements, mercy also can fly around a lot, ana has dps and her potion thing. Ana+mercy is also hard to deal with.

    Maps where there is one gateway to the objective and the other team is defending in an unstoppable manor is where tracer/genji can excel. Just to sneak behind and get on the objective will disrupt the teamwork going for the other team because more than likely 2 or more heroes will come to fend you off leaving a 5 v 4 for your team to deal with getting through the gateway. The two maps that come to mind where this helps the most are Hanamura and Volskia Industries

    As a tracer main I've found it surprisingly easy to take out roadhogs actually. All I do is get them to focus on me and in that same instance blink away expecting the hook (which it always comes) and then use my remaining blinks to blink behind and in front of the roadhog until he's dead

    The one thing you missed is that Tracer's recall has about 0.3 second cast time. It's small but it's really important to know. I die many times as Tracer because of that cast window and I would have all the power, I would remove it. Hitscan weapons are truly annoying because of this cast time, but even Hanzo has killed me before rewinding.

    How to be a good tracer...
    1. Learn map layout.
    2. Run/walk/blink backwards throughout the map.
    3. Do jumping Shots.
    4. Do not use recall throughout the game, until you are able to only die 0-3 times in a game by average.
    5. Play against different heroes.
    6. Develop little techniques for specific heroes, or situations.

    Tracer's killing potential actually makes her very similar to Winston imo (other than being not being able to create space like him) in that she can do a lot of reliable damage but doesn't have anything in her kit that makes for easy kills. She's incredibly good at hopping into engagements your teammates are in and sweeping up after them, or rather having someone near her team near her all the time to sweep up kills on all the damage she does (since getting someone in one burst is no cakewalk)

    Can you please make a guide on how to be a good Reinhardt? I want to learn how to be a good tank, since no one in competitive seems to watch your videos, and everyone picks DpS or Roadhog, even on defense. This has caused me to lose pretty much every game. I want to end up reaching Platinum by the end of the season, and I feel Reinhardt or Winston would be good to learn. I want to learn Reinhardt, tho, because Earthshatter seems better for the team fight, as compared to primal rage. Thanks!

    if you have a pulse bomb, you can use all 3 blinks to get in, drop it on a group, and rewind out, then wait for at least 2 blinks to come back out from cover, of course, it's a tough call to make, and do NOT miss that bomb or you're dead. Do that extremely sparingly.

    If u ever have trouble with a mccree or roadhogs shoot them a bit and blink away to bait the flash bang and hook. Once it's baited just light em up and charge ur ult

    Good guide mate! I think I knew most of what you said except the 1v1 don't bait thing. It would be nice if you talked more in detail about the mechanics/combos you can do with her though. Like if you recall first play with your blinks a bit and you'll have 2 recalls almost certainly in 1 fight. Oh and by the way, it's 299 health max not 300 or she'd be dead before the blink. Sorry for the long paragraph and keep up the good work. ;)

    I have somewhat fallen into the ana main pick for my team. I played her and did alright and now I play her all the time. I am nowhere near good with her in my opinion (I miss sleep darts all the time, I am still working on nanos, and my aim isn't the best) but yet I do think I have gotten pretty good at knowing what's going on and having that battle awareness so I did get better at something!

    What's the easiest way to track an enemy Tracer? I find when she blinks or rewinds, it's hard for me to figure out where the fuck she actually went.

    • @Syllaren
      @Syllaren 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sound if she's close/blinking through you, and if she's far away you can see the trail left behind. after seeing what corner she darted behind you can get some predictions on which way they would head. as for recall you have sound("let's try this again") and just remembering where you saw the tracer 3 seconds before. you have approximately a second from when they activate the recall to snap your aim to where they were 3 seconds before that.

      Play Tracer. Tracer is my most played hero so I have no trouble predicting where the enemy Tracer's will be. People who think Tracer is OP haven't played her enough to find her limitations. Just count blinks and recalls and pounce. You just have to keep a mental not of where she was three seconds ago.

    You guys should do a video about when to use different, similar heros (genji vs tracer, torb vs sym, mccree vs soldier) based on map, team comp, enemy carry etc. Obviously your own skill matters, but are there some situations that one flanker/hitscan outshines the other generally?

  • @bobbyblair5464

    The mark of a good Tracer is her survivability. A Tracer should be everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I like to think of her as a mosquito, as she is there to be annoying, and to make the other team focus on killing her first, which divides the fight, and with her ridiculous mobility, she can zip in and out of fights and get to health packs to make sure she stays alive, but that is the thing about her. As a Tracer, you need to know the maps inside and out, and have the health pack locations memorized. She is a High learning curve character, and at her best can be a true menace.

    3:50 - I'm so glad someone else said it. I don't frequent Overwatch communities so I won't assume I was the only one who's been mentioning it but I've never seen/heard anyone else bring that up aside from me. She's a fucking tank. A hella-mobile, high-speed tank with self-sustaining abilities. Broken on consoles.

    Any other tips for 1v1'ing Zen's? I am pretty solid 1v1 on everyone but him, I feel the fact he has projectiles is almost a benefit against Tracer because as Tracer you are always moving around and he doesn't have to have good aim to hit you with his 20 ammo spam.

      Engage, kill healers/squishies, Regroup with team using boosters. also, if you hear a Soldier/McCree ult boost into them and matrix em in the face, your teammates will love you.
      One last thing: Zero Suit D.Va is an actual threat if played backline so stand behind everyone and do some damage until you have mech
      EDIT: If you're at full chase down healing roadhogs and start shooting them in the face. ALWAYS go for headshots. Widowmaker, Bastion and other backline nukes FEAR you. If you're losing health fly away to the high ground and get some poke damage before going and getting healed. lastly, protect your healers: you have a great shield and automatic shotguns that don't need reloading, why would you not use them to help them?
      I think that's about it. If you need any more help don't be shy!

    ive actually noticed having a lot of problems facing mei. not because of her freeze gun, its pretty easy to blink out of range before getting frozen, but because of 1. tracer cant get around the wall and 2. meis heal buys her so much time that its basically not worth focusing her down. if its a big teamfight, i generally try to avoid mei because i know shes has a decent amount of hp and if i dont immediately burst her down shes just gonna heal to basically full and waste even more of my time

    What I like to do against tanks is run at them while shooting, blink through them and shoot them in the back. That works well with Dva especially, but you gotta be more careful with Reinhardt and Roadhog. And you need to take your distances with Winston.

  • @gavinriley400

    Another thing about Tracer and pulse bombing the Reinhardt while his shield is up that i've learned from experience is that all his allies are behind the shield right next to him, especially weaker opponents. XD

    4:40 - Man, you missed the perfect time to kill that Mei by putting down a pulse bomb so it exploded after she got de-iced. It would have been so funny if you had done that. I love doing that to Mei as Tracer.

    very informative, love it, but do you guys think you could do a short breakdown on the arc of tracer's ult? Big targets like rein are obviously easy to hit, but for someone like lucio with his duck and weave walk animation I struggle to stick a bomb like you did at 11:27

      I mean, effectively more than 300hp if you consider rewind's invincibility frames.
      But let's be realistic, it's not going to be 299 or even 280 most of the time.

    • @Preaplanes
      @Preaplanes 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scurvebeard True, but if you meant "total damage you can take in a short time," it's 299.

    • @Goldy01
      @Goldy01 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Levi-san 299 would be correct though. 149 the first time, 150 the second time, because you just have to stay alive to use recall. I think it's dumb to say "she has more hp" tbh, because all she really does is heal up to the amount she had before.

    Can you do an advanced Reinhardt guide? I'm terrible with him and in competitive I usually have a team without one and I think he's almost a essential part to any team comp. learning some advanced tech could prove helpful for a lot of Reinhardt mains too.

    • @igb6085
      @igb6085 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, look at the comp, rein is very helpful but isn't necessarily needed if for example you have, genji, tracer, dva, lucio, and zen. That could be a useful Winston pick rather than a rein. But to answer your question, get better at using the fire strike, hit at least %70 or more on successful hits. And make sure that your shield never breaks, the shield recharges faster when it's not broken. Never go off by yourself, your the man of the team and if you go down your chances of holding the point go down drastically. Hold chokes on defense, and stick together on offense. And ult on the enemy rein, or in the choke, if you kill their rein then they will not have a shield. Focusing priorities like healers is also good. Other than that, if there is three players, ult.

    • @kempo_95
      @kempo_95 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      in addition to that, dont push/rush (what is the shift ability called?) into a group of enemies. Pick single targets. And a tip for when in a 1v1 with tracer, drop your shield and attack her. You can kill her in 2 hits. (I personally think Reinhard is the best counter to tracer)

  • @TheOfficialOrangeMan
    @TheOfficialOrangeMan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Positioning is so important. Attacking when the enemy is distracted by others. Let the tanks roll in first then blink in behind, pick a healer and trip pulse bomb on main tank.

  • @williamwatts6754
    @williamwatts6754 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question: I loved your comment on baiting but a lot of the time with tracer I'll find a solid enemy back line with a bastion, hanzo, ect. The kind of set up where I can't pick someone off without dying before the final blow, in these cases what I find myself doing is poking at this back line and effectively doing trash damage, but enough to pull their attention and bait two or even three people and effectively use my blinks to evade and not die. Is there a better strategy to use when coming up against this problem or is scrabbling the defense a good call?

    This is not the first time I have heard the term "gamesense" in your videos, and I am genuinely curious about its meaning. How can that skill be trained (I think I know what the answer's gonna be though)?
    By the way, I have found some advices that you offered to be very helpful. For example, I tend to blink a lot without trying to conserve them, and then waste Recall to get out. I will try to be more careful with these abilities.
    And one more thing I am worried about: You have mentioned setting the mouse sensitivity a bit higher to keep up with Tracer's mobility. Wouldn't getting used to that sensitivity cripple my McCree aim (Yeah, right, like there's anything to cripple lol (Shut up!))?

    Zarya and Tracer can couple their ults and Zarya can shield Tracer. Mercy and Pharah can really easily pair up. Lucio can speed boost/heal Roadhog/Reinhardt while Mercy and Pharah protect him, protecting Reinhardt, protecting Zarya, protecting Tracer, While she keeps their eyes off of Pharah and Mercy
