  • I make my way across the Nullarbor Plain along part of the old Eyre HWY, heading into strong wind and rain, checking out the Great Australia Bight and trying to find somewhere to camp out of the wind.

    I have done that stretch of road in both directions on a bicycle...from West to East in the winter....loved it....from East to West in Oktober!!!
    Never a day under 43degrees...loved it !!!
    Australia is a fantastic country for adventure lovers...BUT !!!
    REMEMBER...its a country of Extremes !!!

      That would have been epic doing it on a bicycle, it sounds like you got it a lot hotter than me, somehow I had to deal with rain out there which was unexpected.

    I don't think i would want to camp anywhere without trees. I have Never herd of a Himalayan motor bike. That's new to me.

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Himalayan have been around since 2016 and are popular in places were the roads aren't as great, or you want to go explore tracks but you don't want to have to drag around a bigger more expensive bike that you might drop a few times, this bike seems to fit that niche quite well. They have actually just released a new version more power more suspension travel a bit more capable.
      There are a lot of parts of Australia where you can't find trees so sometimes you are out in the open.

  • @terrycavender
    @terrycavender ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Oh, those headwinds! 🙄 That's where the Himalayan could use just a tad more power. After crossing into Mexico, and heading to Monterrey, there's a lot of open desert, hot and windy. I agree, facing that constant wind is exhausting, and I didn't have choice to go off track, there was only cactus and brush. As always, enjoyed the vid, cheers!

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds similar then to your ride, pity there wasn't any trails for you to break it up, yer I wouldn't want to run into one of those cactus, that would be brutal.

    • @terrycavender
      @terrycavender ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@freewayproject or get lost, and have my bleached bones found years later. 🙄 The road has a cable fence to keep vehicles from wandering off in most places. The only openings are places like a service plaza, or sometimes a village it passes through. These are toll roads. I saw other roads in the distance at times, but how to reach them, if they were paved, no idea. My first time riding in Mexico, so erring on the side of caution.

      That was something Joe! People often use the word “epic” when describing their bike journeys, but to my mind this really is epic, my heart sunk when the engine cut out, thankfully nothing serious🤣. To see the map you put up with the UK superimposed on it really gave great context and put the vastness of Western Australia and all of Australia in to perspective, to think you’re conquering much of it on the little Himalayan is encouraging as I’m thinking I’d like to buy one! Cheers.🍺😀👍

When I crossed the Nullarbor last September I stopped a few times for bio breaks and what look like large shrubs are actually very stunted eucalypt trees. I'd post a pic if I could ... I loved the landing strips - reminded me how remote the area was. OMG! Your video makes me want to ride it all over again. LOL! with fat winter gloves, I once accidentally hit the kill switch. Hi mate, I am in the process of setting up a website, it just taking me some time as I make these videos in my spare time, I normally make feature length documentaries. I do cringe a bit when making these video as I don't have a lot of time so they are rushed and I don't go back over the edit, with the documentaries I get months to film and get all the shots I need, all the interview etc. the same with editing it a process that takes many many months. But the episode on youtube I have to get does with the little time I have spare.
      I am glad you are enjoying the series and thank you for believing I can create a great channel, hopefully as it progresses I'll get more time to be able to spend on each episode.

    9:00 I was neevous, i promise. Why do you go so close to the edge buddy? I am scared of suxh things. What if the rocks are loose? No one is around to help either. I am so glad you made it out.

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh it looked closer on camera than it was, I was still a couple metres from the edge and there it only dropped a metre before the next one. the great Australian bight cliffs have been stable for thousands of years so no loose rocks.
      I hope you enjoyed the episode and going to the edge didn't worry you to much.

      Thanks mate. It's a mirrorless camera Sony A7RIII and a Sony A7SIII. All the camera gear is in the backpack on my back. with the Himalayan the back pack rest on the pillion seat which take most of the way but the softness of the seat reduces vibration. I have had camera's in cars before that have been damage from rough road vibration, but this way seems to work, I have had no issues.

    Why does anyone buy a motorbike like that?

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Do you mean the Himalayan? Well they are cheap and if you don't have a lot of money it one of the only options to be able to get out and explore, they are capable enough to ride on road and dirt. also reliable I've done 45,000km on mine in a year and had no issues. If someone is into speed this definitely isn't the bike, if someone is into having all the technology and gadgets this isn't the bike, if someone was into racing hard enduro this isn't the bike. But if it's more about exploring unique places they have large distances in between and your on a budget this works.
      It's great there are so many different options for all the different experience you can have on a bike. I know of people who have done the lap around Australia on a Postie bike (Honda CT110) and had an absolute ball an epic adventure.
      As long as you are out there it doesn't matter what you're one 😁

    • @nightcruiser6331
      @nightcruiser6331 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @freewayproject ok, but didn't know that was reliable because so many guys in trips had problems. I would go faster to a Japanese second hand moto. Keep going and all good.

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@nightcruiser6331 See, there are different bike for different types of riding which is awesome a second hand moto (I gather you mean moto as in the frame a wheel package, although they are not built for off road) would be great if you are commuting (trying to get from A-to B as quickly as possible), your probably didn't see in all the episode that I take a lot of photos, I need to be going slower to see potential photos, also my rides are about the journey not the destination, I like spending as much time on the bike.
      I hope you have the perfect bike for how you want to ride it

    So are they actual police who check at the border or ?

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not the police but the Australian Border Force. It to do with farming and stopping the spread of things like fruit flies and other stuff getting into Western Australia, the same happens into Tasmania and well if you fly into Australia they are there as well to try and stop pest and disease getting into the agriculture sector.
