About 2 years back I watched some videos from a guy up in Canada that flew ultralites. There was an island in the middle of a river where he did a meet up and camp with a friend. It was a narrow beach to land on but they managed. The videos got me intrested in learning ultralites but after looking into what you first need to do I would be disqualified due to heart disease. But they are still fun to watch 😊

We’ve stayed on Lundy many times. About 15 years ago the Island manager would fly back to the mainland on non ferry days by hang glider. We’d see him take off and then spend about 10-15 minutes circling over the island to obtain enough height to ensure he didn’t end up in the Bristol Channel. Was fascinating to watch.

I sailed my yacht over to Lundy from Bideford one Easter about 14yrs ago, when I had it.
We anchored at the anchorage & went up to the top of the unused lighthouse.
I said to my mate - what are those pajnted stones.
There was two lines of white painted stones & he said that's Lundy International Airport 😂😂😂.
Next thing that happened 3 micro lights came in & landed !
It was a good Easter for weatger & people went out by boat, by kayack & microlight.
I had a pee when we were at the Marisco & I had a view of Wales over the wall.
I couldn't eat tge Lundy Lamb stew though after seeing them walking to the lighthouse.
I need to get back out there!

I’m out of touch now with all that, so I don’t know if people still fly off the cliff face at the Gower. It was one of the best places in the UK for slope soaring and it may still be used for that.

I once was flown to Lundy by a Trinity House Helicopter to repair refix an airial to the light house that had come off. The pilot said that he would be back at 14:30 to pick us up, providing the weather wasn't too bad. This was a Friday. If he couldn't make it, he would see us on Monday. We waited for him in the pub, and the prospect of spending the weekend on the island didn't seem too bad. He managed to land and flew us back to the helipad at Hartland point lighthouse

@@trev.lee.adventure I think from memory we were nowhere near where you landed and obviously travelling at a faster approach speed. After 3 circuits we decided it was time to head back to shore as we were low on fuel having purposely taken on a lighter fuel load. Things were getting tight and the airport we were going for fuel informed us that we would have to circuit away from the field as a load of parachuters were just being dropped above the field. Bit of a twitch moment for us which resulted in a downwind landing as the fuel was now at a critical level. To add injury to insult, the pump on the fuel bowser was inoperative at the airfield but we managed to get enough fuel using jerry cans. Not one of our best trips but one we'll never forget. Didn't ever get back to Lundy for another attempt and I suggested the next time we just come in the helicopter.

Another interesting video, thank you. Flew there in an Auster about 10 years ago. Went to the pub for lunch and the boat had arrived from the mainland. Onboard was a neighbour of mine who couldnt figure out why I was sitting on another table, but wasnt on the boat! Showed him in the afternoon! :)

Awesome, I frequent a farm on south Gower, 2 or 3 days a week for the last 5 years, amazing views of Lundy looking out across the Channel. On clear days can just make out the squat lighthouse building on the northern end. Wonderful to see the view from "up there". Lundy views / visibility can change VERY quickly, sometimes can appear on the horizon out of nowhere, and just as quickly disappear again as cloud, sea mists and assorted weather conspires to either reveal or hide it.
