Poor poor lady. I had a similar experience in my 20's but the would be lover was my husband's sister. Years of bad memories there....She too fell onto her knees begging him 'please..please don't leave me for her...' it was a horrific scene and I had a young daughter who saw it all. It didn't end in murder, but sometimes I wish it had.

Obviously murder is never the answer, but this guy was a huge jerk that had karma chasing him. This woman married a man, stood by him during wartime & stayed true to their vows. She was mentally, emotionally & verbally abused & broken. Wow I can’t believe Hollywood hasn’t made a movie about her!

I would normally say she had other options, and should pay for her crime but in the "good ol' days" we all know she would've end up a slave of her situation if she didn't do anything. The dude was obviously an abusive asshole. Also, based on the story, it sounds like she didn't get any pleasure out of the murder, but it was more of a desperate move to free herself from her tormented life. At the end it looks like she moved on to do good deeds.

@@KARTIKEYA007 that's a false equivalency. Her opinion is not sexist, the situation was sexist. Culture was much different back then. The idea of divorce was much more devastating. Particularly to the woman. She would not have the type of options that her husband did. You can't even compare being a woman in 1950 to being a modern day man. That being said, even in modern times, it's pretty terrible to divorce a person after they've given you children. It's a hard life being a single parent, particularly for women, who are most often the primary caregivers.

@@Catlady-mw4en you are completely wrong!!! He didn't want her but she just couldn't accept that! So she threw a fit and killed him. What a drama queen. Society is so slanted for women it's unreal. A man has to pay support, if he doesn't, he gets his license suspended or possibly locked up. How can you pay if your locked up? The reason why their are so many single moms today it's because they are damaged goods! It's not our (society's) fault they had them kids. It's not our responsibility to pay for her kids, bring them up etc. No one wants damaged goods! It's clear that other guy had no problem being a cuckold but then again it's the French!!! Please do the whole world a favor and save your bleeding heart garbage!

However, she did buy a gun shortly before the murder, and had it hidden in the house, I indictating that murdering her husband was on her mind. To me, that precludes it from strictly being a crime of passion, which would be going into a jealous rage, and grabbing a heavy lamp or a gun that had been in the house for some time, and killing her husband. Also, she said she got the gun and took it to the bedroom with the intention of killing herself, but the gun went off and shot him in the back. Maybe that's true, but she then shot him 4 more times! I do think she was totally overwrought over the affair and her husband's callous treatment of her, and not at all in her right mind when she killed the cheating SOB. I think the acquittal was the right thing to do. This is a very interesting case!

I remember a long long time ago I found out my ex-husband was having an affair. He stole all my jewelry, emptied our checking account then went around town and wrote hot checks on a closed account, went and filled up his truck and “charged it” to me, he also went and bought four new tires for his truck and charged that to me also. The cherry on top of the cake? He went to my father (who was in stage 4 cancer) and told him if he gave him $5000 it would pay off all our debts (we had ZERO debt) so he gave him the money. He left my dads bedside and drove straight to his new girlfriends house in the next state. Long story short (I know...too late!), I ran into him and his new wife (the afore mentioned girlfriend) while they were in town visiting his mother. I literally came face to face to them. I just looked at her and him and said “I am SO GLAD you were willing to settle for a cheater...cause I sure in the Hell wasn’t” and walked out.
