      Yes! "Briefcase" a true treasure, and Yes! I did the same thing too..watched every single video! I just couldn't get enough and still can't...Here's a couple more channels (also at the top of my personal faves list) which are of the same superior calibre - in a similar genre somewhat,but with their own personal unique style:"Obsolete Oddity", ("Oddie"is the greatest too!) And does amazing case studies with a beautiful rich romantic Victorian slant!) And.."Scary Mysteries": Superb (again!) videos of all thing strange and interesting...along with BC and Oddie, one of the BEST narrators and voices on TH-cam...Enjoy! You may just need to order in pizza a couple of nights!

      Morty - That's just a made up account that she was having a sexual affair with her illegitimate son, they just wanted to call her a name, she had 12 children by John Hayes, she met him when she was 16 yrs old, she wasn't a prostitute either, it was just another nickname to throw a slur at a murderess.

    In the Georgian Britain era a married woman could not leave or divorce her husband without being disgraced and possibly left penniless without property.

    • @NPC-fr6wo
      @NPC-fr6wo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yeah they could, it's just most women lived off the money earned by men they married and had no interest in making their own.

    • @shellzyotube9549
      @shellzyotube9549 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      He usually made proceedings of divorce, a quick way of divorce & getting rid was to sell her at a market like livestock cattle. It was an accepted English Custom. She would still be punished for Petty Treason if she killed him out of sheer need to escape daily beatings & or rapes, driven to kill to defend herself, there were no laws to protect her from that.

    • @shellzyotube9549
      @shellzyotube9549 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@NPC-fr6wo what would the grounds in a court be for divorce, one woman tried to get a divorce from her husband because she could not stand him beating her anymore, the judge said her husband had the right to beat her and said ' No ' she could not have a divorce, forget rape too the husband was allowed to do that to her any time he wished, he could thrash her within an inch of her life, one woman fell dead in the street from a beating from her husband, it was only said that was most unfortunate, the only thing frowned upon was that he actually made her die, not the fact that he would have made her terribly ill. Believe me there was no divorce to be obtained by women, usually, the men claimed that she was a terrible wife & was committing adultery, sometimes a court would not give him a divorce but was told to do the custom of ' Wife selling ', which was to seel her off like a piece of common livestock, like cattle at the market place.

      @elizabethhenry6605 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Thanks, Maria. I was just going to point this out. These cases seem well researched, so it's disappointing the narrtor didn't feel the need to point this out and instead trotted out some BS claiming women could just leave their husbands at will.

    • @melisapham6627
      @melisapham6627 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The same could be said for divorce in today's day and age (except for the disgraced part) if the man is wealthy and has his fiance sign a prenuptial aggreement. If a prenup is signed (with the man being the wealthier of the two) and later on they get a divorce, the woman gets nothing of what the man made or owns. That's no reason to kill someone.

      Michelle Mendisco - I'd like to point out that even in the 1700s putting one's severed head on a pole was a punishment, this punishment dates back to medieval times and putting ones head on a pole didn't happen to everybody, that was reserved for special punishments of people that had their heads chopped off, it happened to traitors. Lord Lovat was the last Lord to have his head chopped off in the 1700s, they could have stuck his head on a pole too if the Judge wished to. As a matter of fact, people attempting suicide were hanged by the law right up until 1944, yes indeed there was capital punishment awaiting those who did not make a success of their suicide. As for the Georgian's goodness knows what went through their heads with sticking poor old murdered John Hayes head on a stake, perhaps they thought he was guilty of something anyway, because usually it would have been wrapped up and left inside a church for anyone to come forward & identify, notice could or would have been nailed to the door of the church.

      @@KARTIKEYA007 So murder should be answered with murder, and those who think murdering is a-okay (even if it is done _to_ a murderer) aren't just a bit twisted _too?_ Okay, putting aside death penalty arguments entirely, since that's its own thing...
      It's more someone whose mind is okay with the idea of someone being burned alive that is really sick, to me. That shows a profound lack of empathy.
      And lack of empathy is one of the notable characteristics of murderers.
