    I was so confused when she ended up killing Patrick! I swore she would have killed her husband and married the smuggler. If she was only after money it makes less sense doing what she did, if she killed her husband and married him she would have been set up for life if she didn't get caught. But she seems kind of dumb, so yeah she would have been caught. Not a very smart woman.

      Lundy Bancroft states that the abusive person (the Narcissist, the Cluster B personality disordered individual) is driven by the dysfunctional attitude of entitlement, and is addicted to the rewards of their behaviour ( 'Why Does He Do That? Inside the minds of abusive men').
      I've found this definition proves it's accuracy nearly every day. It helps me to make sense of the atrocities committed by abusers, and make sense of their motivations which are otherwise incomprehensible to non-disordered people.

That didn't stop plenty of people from splitting up and taking on other common-law spouses, though; she could have left her husband and passed herself off as Patrick's wife, but you're right: she just wanted money.

      Hello, I have studied the 18th and 19th Century in detail and also many of the criminal cases from that period. I do prefer older cases from the 16th and 17th Century but often the detail on these cases is limited. I will do a few from more modern times but I just prefer the older ones. I am glad you like the content :)

So many people died on speculation, gossip, racism, etc and some were guilty. Even if scant info, it would force viewers to come up with their own theories; however, you know your own craft. I have double major in English and history, so I find your work interesting and provocative.

    Criminal Rule Number One: Never bury the victim in your own house.
    Criminal Rule Number Two: Get someone else to buy the shovel.

    • @resourcedragon
      @resourcedragon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thing is, if you don't bury the victim in your own house, how do you get them to some other spot where there is a greater variety of possible perpetrators - in the days before the invention of the motor car. (Disposing of the false teeth elsewhere would definitely have been a smart move, though.)
      I suppose you could try inviting Patrick to a picnic (away from home, near the Thames), ply him with plenty of drink and add in a sedative, like Valerian or opium. Once Patrick is out of it, finishing the job off with a blunt object shouldn't be too difficult. You would need to pay attention to timing and possible witnesses but, between Mr & Mrs Manning, it should have been possible for them to carry Patrick to a spot where they could sling his weighted body (with identifying teeth removed and disposed of elsewhere) into the Thames.
      I'm not saying this is a good idea or that it is moral (it's not) just that it would improve your chances of getting away with the crime.

      They're not actually true though, at least for certain this particular case. The vast majority of early 1900's and almost all 1800's case files are outright fabrications. This one especially rings hollow, more than most. It's sloppy in ways that just defies reason why anyone would accept it and not question its veracity. Follow the magic bullet as a starting point. Then the discrepancies with the pictures and names in the pictures, and dress (and the level of sophistication in said dress that indicates high society, not low class). The list goes on and on. I've listened to about 1/10th of the stories on this channel, and it amazes me at the lack of reality present in most of them, and just how good the police detectives seem to be, despite looking into reality of cold case files, and almost all murders in that era and the early 1900's were unsolved with no way to solve them. It's almost like you have police detectives hiring people to write up "solved" cases so they don't look incompetent. They read like dime novels for christ sake. The real cases don't. They have a more accurate ring to them, where physics fits 100%, and things like witness memory over time also fits more accurately (bad memory after a few months/weeks, in these they seem almost too good, with perfect memory on time of day, etc., and that police and prosecutors would take them at absolute face value.).
      Just one thing after another. It's a huge disservice to reality given there were quite a few murders throughout that period, and the lack of real case files that were actually solved does no one justice, and passing off (not this channel, but I mean official sources passing these off as "real" case files) only harms the victims, and frames names of almost certainly long dead but innocent people picked to fill the gaps, because no one would question if someone with a badge claims they're real case files.

      @@ignasia7230: I think you raise some good points. While I think they did find the actual perpetrators in some historical cases (some of the criminals do not appear to have been particularly bright) there are other cases where there is a lot of room for doubt.

      That's so true. Isn't it funny I believe the women had more violence in them then men. Makes me laugh when back in the day, the courts refused to execute women, thinking they we're the weaker sex. Their crimes were often blamed on men for the reason a woman would not do this type of crime. Too violent, or couldn't pull it off because we are physically weaker. ( picking up dead weight). I guess back then the phrase of, ' there's no fury, like a woman scorned'
