This is good stuff I have a red Jeep ZJ just like this not the V8 though stumbled upon the videos great work guys thank you I'm planning on going to Arizona this Channel has been very helpful
I just barley bought a 1994 jeep grand cherokee leado 1 owner and it runs great..and I'm definitely going to use some of these great upgrades..good video thank you..
I just bought a 2001 grand cherokee wj 4x4 4.0 6 cyl. Dont regret best suv i ever bought strong motor and feels nice while driving next week will be lifting 2in and putting offroad wheels and ko2 tires live in yuma, az great for the dunes
Outstanding work, man. I live in Peoria, AZ and own a 98 ZJ i6 4x4. There's much work I need to do, and alot of money I need to save 😂 so for now I'm in the researching stages of figuring out what I want. I want something unique, yet practical both on and off road. Looking forward to the next video! 🇺🇸
I used the same stuff on my freinds zj. I noticed alot of runs in your painting. Key to point out if any one else wants to use bed liner is to keep it farther away and build it with light coats. Don't let it run heavy and let it dry 5 minutes between coats.
That's true. I forgot to mention that at the end. Most of the runs were on the mirrors and front bumper where I first started. Overall it was a simple and cheap process and looks pretty nice.
Also, to make it look better still, go ahead and do all of the body panels from that top line of the trim panels down. It really ties everything together.
Looks good I have two 1995 zjs one black one white I'm gonna put my black trim on my white one after seeing how good that black looks on yours zjs are awesome
I also run a '94 ZJ with a 5.2 with quite a list of mods for a daily driver, needs rocker panels bad and a little frame repair but its a great vehicle and I think it's fun to drive, would definitely get another, would love to find a '98 5.9 in decent shape.
Just bought one of these a month or so ago, tons of miles, needs a bit of love. Not a huge car person but I guess Ill be watching this whole series and trying to figure out how to work on some stuff.
Hey guys, very curious to hear how the bed liner has fared thus far? I have a Grand Cherokee I'm looking to touch up the same way and some input would be a huge help. Thanks for your videos. Educational and incredibly fun to watch
As of Oct. 2020 it's still hanging in there really well! I've retouched it very mildly (due to some door dings due to trail use) but it basically looks as good as the day I put it on. Thanks for watching, John!
How are your engine and transmission mounts holding up? I'd like to see a video replacing those mounts on the 5.2L engine. I have a 95 ZJ that I bought last year from a little old lady who only put about 95k miles on it. Brakes and water pump needed replacement. Motor mounts are next. In the process of assembling tools needed to get this job done. Not a lot of clearance to access the nuts and bolts that hold the mounts to the block so you need an assortment of tools. Great video series! Enjoyed watching your progress.
Thanks! Still looks about as good as the day I put it on. I did an update about 8 months after this video (th-cam.com/video/br6OhVAQsmI/w-d-xo.html) and it still looks the same today.
Where did you get the spacers and what size do they need to be? I got the tj bezel and will be installing soon but i dont want to make home made spacers out of bent tin or cut out my entire fuel filler area like alot of other people have done. Yours looks the best out of all the ones i have seen online.
I feel like you guys are leaving out the more important details on the Tj bezel. Like the size of the spacers, if you cut or filed any part of the filler neck to accommodate the notch, and how you managed to get it against the body completely level. I have all of the EXACT parts used in this video, on a 94 zj, my spacers are the same size, I filed a notch in for that part of the cap area, and yet when I space it on top, it doesnt sit flush on the bottom AT ALL and the locking gas cap doesn't properly sit on it at all. What aren't you telling about your install?
Hey man, question, I want to paint the plastic running boards of my 2007 Ford Expedition, do I need to prime the running boards before applying the bed liner?
@@azoffroad_net thanks man, I actually finished painting them 2 days ago and they turned out great, thanks for posting your video, it was very helpful.
do you have any problems with your VIC the display screen when shows you if your in 4 all time or 4 low i have a 96 zj limited ive bought 3 from the junk yard and ive tried fuses and i dont know of im looking in the right place
JeepITguy The bezel is already mounted to the Jeep via the filler neck. Adding bolts to the outside of the bezel itself is unnecessary and would only leave extra holes in the body if I ever change things back. I could add bolt heads for show but that's all it would be for.
Disagree, having done this mod myself. You drilled a gaping hole in the roof to pass a cable through, not seeing much point in not fastening this bezel down.
The hole for the antenna serves a functional purpose. I just don't see how adding a few bolts will change anything about the bezel other than the look of it. It's low on the priority list in my book.
Loving the ZJ! You should plasti-dip the Chrome grille & emblems to Black!? Would look good red & black! Also in the future change head&tail-lights, Add light bars? 👍🏼
Appreciate the comment! We actually changed the headlights and taillights in Part 2. I do like having the little bit of chrome but the plasti-dip would look pretty badass. We'll see!
There wasn't much over spray, so not sure what you mean. The front and rear bumpers are eventually coming off anyways so only the side panels are long-term.
Given that these vehicles have an issue with the fuel tank being too low at the back of the vehicle and subject to exploding in a rear-ending, I kept the hitch on mine and built a armored enclosure aka skidplate under the tank and on the sides. It doesn't weigh much and doesn't cost any clearance- it also protects the plastic gas tank from rocks. I'd recommend everyone with a ZJ that is going to see trails do this.
I own a 1994 zj. Had the recall done for now.. Still don't feel comfortable. Actuall been thinking about a skid plate for the tank. I like your mod.. Eventuall do the 30 gallon mod also.. I am just getting going on this Jeep so it might be awhile. Thanks for you utube channel. Lots of great info...
Thanks for watching Duane. I too would eventually like to get a dedicated skid plate for the tank. I think the combination of tank skid and trailer hitch + bumper would be enough to prevent any serious issues on the road or trail.
Gerardo Ozaeta dude my fuckin truck is doing that right now and I don't know what to do to make it stop doing that because no one knows exactly what's causing it to do that....shit! Do you know..help a Brutha out let me know?
I gave it a quick rinse and light sand before painting. It's been through dust, mud, rain, and several washes and so far it isn't showing any signs that it will peel. The thing about the bed-liner is that it is thicker and more protective than normal spray paint.
The cans are less than $10 a can and you can pick them up at any hardware store (Lowe’s, Walmart, etc). After 8 months it still looks like new. We posted an update video about a month ago if you want to see it now.
I got it through online through LKQ. They have a wide selection of factory parts right out of used vehicles. If they don't have any left, I would check a junkyard or Pick & Pull type of place.
The CB is DEAD truckers rarely use them anymore I know because I drive semi it's a rare moment to get a conversation with other folks mostly the factories use them to tell what dock to use or they ask for your cell phone number On trail rides it's very good tool just not popular as once was
I came across that when trying to figure out how to restore them. It seems like a short-term solution but doesn't seem to last that long in the sun. I think painting is still quicker and longer-lasting.
You actually don't want the antenna isolated from ground. The outer jacket should go to ground- it's called a counterpoise, and is every bit as much a part of an antenna system as the stick pointing up, aka the mast. (I'm a HAM, and work with radio quite a bit in professional and hobby life).
I do want to point out, however, that I do like your build quite a bit. Personally, there are a few things I'd have done different, but not many. That's what life is about, however. If I'm running cables from the passenger area to outside, I usually just use a weathertight cord grip or bushing. Much easier, more "professional" looking, and easier to add more wires if need be.
This is good stuff I have a red Jeep ZJ just like this not the V8 though stumbled upon the videos great work guys thank you I'm planning on going to Arizona this Channel has been very helpful
Good choice with the bedliner spray!! I wish they still made Jeeps in that body style...
Definitely something special about the older body-style Jeeps. They don't make 'em like they used to.
I just barley bought a 1994 jeep grand cherokee leado 1 owner and it runs great..and I'm definitely going to use some of these great upgrades..good video thank you..
Got to admit my jeep has that type of trim,it works well when rocks start flying, tougher than medal
I used a Trim paint from rustolium and it worked amazing
I just bought a 2001 grand cherokee wj 4x4 4.0 6 cyl. Dont regret best suv i ever bought strong motor and feels nice while driving next week will be lifting 2in and putting offroad wheels and ko2 tires live in yuma, az great for the dunes
Nice job! Getting ready to do a series on my ZJ build as well!

Cool videos. I have a red 95 limited that was bought new on October of 94. I enjoyed watching the work you guys did!

Keegan Layes and hold the bottom of the can down at all times... Lol. Still nice trail truck tho.
That's true. I forgot to mention that at the end. Most of the runs were on the mirrors and front bumper where I first started. Overall it was a simple and cheap process and looks pretty nice.

Paint the muffler black its cheap it's actually protective and its a nice touch.

Hey Guys - Jeep looks great! I like the gas filler mod. Do you recall what size spaces you ended up using? Appreciate it!
Just bought one of these a month or so ago, tons of miles, needs a bit of love. Not a huge car person but I guess Ill be watching this whole series and trying to figure out how to work on some stuff.

Sweet, identical to my 93
That bedliner has a lot of grit in it that i think it would tend to hold mud and dirt. How has it been to keep clean?
How are you liking the 510xl CB radio so far?
I miss my 98 laredo. I did the same thing with the lower plastic rails and bumpers.
Looks GREAT , nice to do your projects with whom I'm guessing is your dad. Your ZJ is a beast to beauty story. Very nice.
Should spray the front grill to
Did you sand the plastics before pairing them to kind of rough it up or did you just paint them As is?
Wow side panels on the doors come off easier than the bumper cover well at least I learned how to do it too difficult way
Looks great. Any update on how the spray held up?
Thanks! Still looks about as good as the day I put it on. I did an update about 8 months after this video (th-cam.com/video/br6OhVAQsmI/w-d-xo.html) and it still looks the same today.

I'm getting ready to start this. My trim matches my paint color, so I think I need to sand my down before spraying. Did you have to do that step?
How much did all the modifications end up costing?
I just picked up a set of discover RTX for my Kia Sorrento filled the wheel wells pretty nice
Well done guys
Starting my build soon! Thanks for inspiration
Thanks for watching! Good luck with your build!
Damn I gotta do this with my Jeep

The only thing I did was give it a good wash & dry. I imagine you could do more prep-work but I've had no issues since.
@@azoffroad_net thanks man, I actually finished painting them 2 days ago and they turned out great, thanks for posting your video, it was very helpful.
Nice runs lol. One of my biggest pet peeves is watching people spray paint and get runs all over there job lol.
Jeepguy 9519 one of my biggest pet peeves is people who cant spell. Its "their" not "there". There is a place, their shows possesion.
do you have any problems with your VIC the display screen when shows you if your in 4 all time or 4 low i have a 96 zj limited
ive bought 3 from the junk yard and ive tried fuses and i dont know of im looking in the right place
I am basically doing all of the same stuff to my WJ.
I’ve always been told to get at least a 3 foot antenna
Was there any prepping for the plastic trim? Or did you spray it on as it sat
What happened to bolting the fuel bezel to the body? You aren't done with that part by a long shot!
JeepITguy The bezel is already mounted to the Jeep via the filler neck. Adding bolts to the outside of the bezel itself is unnecessary and would only leave extra holes in the body if I ever change things back. I could add bolt heads for show but that's all it would be for.

SEM black trim paint would have worked so much better and wouldn’t have used so many cans, but it looks good man.
WHY wouldn't you put the 4 screws back in the gas tank trim piece???🔧🔩🔧
How many cans of paint did you use?
Loving the ZJ! You should plasti-dip the Chrome grille & emblems to Black!? Would look good red & black! Also in the future change head&tail-lights, Add light bars? 👍🏼
Appreciate the comment! We actually changed the headlights and taillights in Part 2. I do like having the little bit of chrome but the plasti-dip would look pretty badass. We'll see!
How / where do you do the Plasti-dip?
So how well has the bed liner held up so far?
Does bedliner flex with the plastic?
I like how you faded out the paint line to avoid the over spray inperfections, next time use plastic!!! At least you tried!!!🤣🤣
There wasn't much over spray, so not sure what you mean. The front and rear bumpers are eventually coming off anyways so only the side panels are long-term.
Did you have to do any sanding down on any of the side panels or bumpers
Nope. The only thing I did before painting was give it a good wash & rinse. The bed liner sticks well to just about any surface.
Do used any primer before the Bedliner
How good is that cb?
You should spray your hitch with the same stuff. too
I'm hoping to replace the bumpers in the next few months which should eliminate the factory hitch.
That's true. I forgot about the factory recall regarding the gas tanks. I'll likely leave it then.

Maybe the roll on bedliner would be a lil better?? Still looks good thou
That's a good option too. Might take a little more time but is worth a shot.
Now waiting to see the winch mounted somewhere
That's what is planned next hopefully. Just have to find the right bumper combo that isn't crazy expensive.
Look at JCR Off-road for a great bumper kit. Finished mine a year ago and very pleased.
did you ever have issues with the notorious “death wobble”?
Gerardo Ozaeta i have issue with my 96 zj with the death wobble scares the shit out or me when it happens
Yep. We got it about two years ago. We replaced the steering stabilizer and it went away. Not a permanent solution but it hasn't been back since.
Gerardo Ozaeta dude my fuckin truck is doing that right now and I don't know what to do to make it stop doing that because no one knows exactly what's causing it to do that....shit! Do you know..help a Brutha out let me know?
Good video. New sub. 👍
Shoulda taken thefront plate bracket off then spray front bumper....but other tjan that....good job
What was the name of the product be used
I used Rust-Oleum spray on bed-liner -- even 3 years after this video it is still holding up well:
azoffroad.net/zj-project-bedliner-spray
Subscribed
I would have done the grill also give it more aggressive look
My 98 cent a can walmart spray paint looks better. Did you wet sand the plastic before you painted it? It may start to peel off.
I gave it a quick rinse and light sand before painting. It's been through dust, mud, rain, and several washes and so far it isn't showing any signs that it will peel. The thing about the bed-liner is that it is thicker and more protective than normal spray paint.
Wet sanding is for AFTER a paint is applied, and it's not needed for bedliner. Now, sanding BEFORE application, definitely agree.
Henry Spagnew why would he wet sand before bed liner😂 just grab some 150 grit and go to town
how much were those bedliner spray cans? Where can you buy them? and how does it look right now after its been on there for a couple months?
Yeah! Can we see a quick update video on that bed liner paint job?
The cans are less than $10 a can and you can pick them up at any hardware store (Lowe’s, Walmart, etc). After 8 months it still looks like new. We posted an update video about a month ago if you want to see it now.
how many inches is the jeep lifted
Charly Garcia ,3" he said
3.5” lift with 31” tires.
Hi. Where you buy The New transfer case?
I got it through online through LKQ. They have a wide selection of factory parts right out of used vehicles. If they don't have any left, I would check a junkyard or Pick & Pull type of place.
How many cans you put on it?
He said 5 cans of rust-oleum bed liner, I bought 6 and still have most of 1 can left. But, I'm OCD and touched up a lot under the moldings...lol
No entiendo porque no quitó las vistas de las puertas para pintarlas mejor
The CB is DEAD truckers rarely use them anymore I know because I drive semi it's a rare moment to get a conversation with other folks mostly the factories use them to tell what dock to use or they ask for your cell phone number
On trail rides it's very good tool just not popular as once was
That back to black stuff doesn't work worth a damn!
Has anyone done this with Plasti Dip?
that can stuff is so very cheap will fade in less than 4 months , should had used raptor liner .
I've had it on my Jeep for over 2 years now and it hasn't faded.
Black out the grill Jeep logo and the grand and the other logo
I've seen one youtuber use just a heat gun.
I came across that when trying to figure out how to restore them. It seems like a short-term solution but doesn't seem to last that long in the sun. I think painting is still quicker and longer-lasting.
The plastic isn't UV-stable. That's a short term solution.
Mother's Back to Black trim restorer is fantastic. Used it on the trim of 01' Explorer about 2 years ago and it still has a deep black
Paint the grill wtf
I hate to say, but this has to be one of the worst CB installations I've ever seen.
And why is that exactly? It works. Quite well actually.
You actually don't want the antenna isolated from ground. The outer jacket should go to ground- it's called a counterpoise, and is every bit as much a part of an antenna system as the stick pointing up, aka the mast. (I'm a HAM, and work with radio quite a bit in professional and hobby life).
