    I had one of these in college with 3" lift & 32" tires. It took me to over a dozen national parks, climbed more mountains than I can count and over 200k miles. I think they call it overlanding these days.

      Yeah, that's basically what I am going to be setting my latest ZJ I just bought up for. I've had a 3" spacer lift (same as the first one I ever owned), and also a set of extended shock's to go with the lift. Running some p gauge wire to a second battery in the back for both the slamming stereo system as well as for the inverter I have sitting just waiting to be installed.
      I'm making it so I can just stick the 1 or 2 subwoofer boxes in the front passenger seat when I need to fold the back seats down to sleep in it, and then I just need some more extraction gear, a hi-lift Jack and an extra tow strap aside from my tools, few spare parts, extra water, oil, gear lube and so on.
      I'm hoping that I'm off to a good start..
      Any cheap, but necessary other things please feel free to give me some ideas please!

      **but I'm not a fan of going too big with my tires on these zj GC's. I liked the 30x9.5r15 A/T tires I had on my first one with the little 3in budget lift, and I loved the 245/75r16 aggressive All Terrains I bought new for my last ZJ which was a '98 5.9, that would have been PERFECT with the 3inch budget boost and those tires-- well, and a 242 transfer case as well!!

    My brother owns a ‘95 that looks like this one. (No mods or insanely high suspension.) It’s Bright Red, and has a nice interior. It has survived 180k+ miles, so overall, it’s a pretty darn good car. We’ve had it for almost 18 years, and it still runs like a brand new car. If you need a small, cheap, and reliable SUV, this is a choice to consider.

    With a 3.5 suspension lift, did you have to install new drive shafts?

    • @azoffroad_net
      @azoffroad_net  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Front drive shaft -- no, but on the rear drive shaft I ended up having it re-done just to be on the safe side. When I got my jeep, the rear drive shaft was shorter than normal (not sure why) so once it was lifted it needed to be longer. Stock driveshafts may be fine.

  • @LadyJesterSurfer
    @LadyJesterSurfer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you still happy with the tires you chose? I've got bfg all terrain and their great off road, but make so much noise on road. Always keeping an eye out for future replacements.

    • @azoffroad_net
      @azoffroad_net  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely! I've had the Coopers for 2 years now. They still have plenty of tread left and are a good mix of traction and grip off-road and quiet and smooth on-road.

    Do you know what size the stock tires were? They look bigger than mine

    • @azoffroad_net
      @azoffroad_net  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I measured them when we did the lift and I believe they were 28s or 29s. I believe the ZJs came with a few different stock tire sizes based on the different models, but I'm not positive.

    I have a question. I own a 2001 Laredo that's not a 4x4, but I'd like to lift it and give it a more rugged look. Not planning to off-road. Can I add a lift kit to a 2WD Jeep Grand Cherokee?

    • @azoffroad_net
      @azoffroad_net  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly! You can lift any vehicle. If you were to take it off-road, you'd find better clearance would help out a lot even if you only have 2WD.

      3.5" Lift has the zj

    • @azoffroad_net
      @azoffroad_net  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 31s rubbed (while turning) even after the 3.5" lift so trimming the fender was necessary. I don't think there is a way to fit 31s at the stock ride height without serious cutting.

    Around how much did this cost?

    • @azoffroad_net
      @azoffroad_net  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The lift was about $450, tires were about $160/tire, wheels were $150/wheel so about $1600 worth of modifications in this video on top of the $2100 we paid for the Jeep.

    • @BainBoyd
      @BainBoyd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Craft I did very similar to this, but I went with 3.5" trailmaster lift, which looks the same as this, but cheap aluminum 16x8 wheels, LT265/75R16 (31.5x10.5 on a 16inch wheel) and after a lot of shopping around, and a good deal on 4 new wheels and all terrain tires the costs were: 800 for the jeep, 500 for the lift plus track bar, and 800 for the wheels and tires bought together.
