I went with the Triumph....just rode from Delhi to Nashik via Banswara and Sardar Sarovar, brilliant machine! I'm 58 and 5'9", felt so light, powerful , natural and effortless compared to my Meteor 350. It was a hoot on Saputara ghats....I came back to my 20s there!!
I think the last lines sum it up really well, Duke is what the heart wants, Speed is what the practical mind says...so if you have the money to be impractical and go with your heart, go with the duke.
If you want to be mature with your money and decision the speed is the definite choice.
Oh yes 🙌
I've always liked the Duke 390 and would possibly be my pick if I were 30 years younger. If I were in the market for a new smaller bike for zipping around town on, it would likely be the Speed 400. It just looks like it would make more sense for urban commuting and even sitting on for a while if stuck in traffic. The Speed 400 is also quite a bit less money. The Speed 400 is $5800 here vs about $7600 for the Duke 390. That's a pretty big price difference.
Good choice. The performance of the Triumph is very easy to get used to as well.
The duke is around 4500$in india
Can you guys share a video of all the bikes your entire team/crew owns and why?
For sure! Sounds like a plan
Why do you guys take out the spec info in less than a second, everytime I have to rewind it and pause it to read it, it's almost like you don't want us reading those. And it takes me away from listening to the nice flow of your talk. Please leave it for 5 seconds at least
Please read this comment pd
Done and done! Will increase the stay going forward
@@powerdriftofficial not bad, quick actions and responses 😎
I'll take the Triumph every time. Plenty of power, great configuration and far more useful in many more situations.
Oh yes
I'm happy with the speed 400, it's awesome
Cheers bud! Hope you are having a good time with the motorcycle
Finally someone who has the same opinion as me on the 390 Duke's design, I think it looks great specially in the atlantic blue color
+1
Hate how the new 390 looks. I dont know about these things but if that side pannel can be removed and you could fit the old bs6 like pannel or even better something that makes it look the awesome KTM 790, it would be amazing!
Doubtful. Also there is some function to it than just form.
@@powerdriftofficial
But some designed form into function.
God that shot at 5:27 is Incredible! No better words can explain about the suspension than that shot! Wow PowerDrift amazing!
Nice no?
@@powerdriftofficial Absolutely!
Totally agree on the Speed Rev Counter. I just took delivery of my Spped, and I really wish the RPM counter was analog.
Took a test ride of both. Bang on with heat management on triumph Karan. However the Duke 390 is hot in 35* degrees Bombay heat. Also the jerky nature of the duke is a total turn off and like Varun said Duke is no tourer. 😅
Yes yes and yes! 😄
Completely agree with Varun on the Duke 390's character after a short test ride. After 5k rpm is when the hooligan shows it's true character. A very well compiled comparison video 👍.
Yes, you are right
Imho, that side fairing of duke looks odd and stands out, like a cheap aftermarket mod. A stepdown from the previous model in terms of design.
You mean the shoulder extension?
calling the duke 390 vfm citing its equipment is like saying bhai aapko aapki thali me gulab jamun bhi denge , rasgulle bhi denge , halwa , papad sab denge isiliye yeh thali ka hum itna lenge !! bhai nahi mangta quick shifter , nahi chahiye adjustable suspension humkko ! apache ki trha rakho alag package ki jisko chahiye woh le apne vfm ki defination ke hisab se
Wait! Which motorcycle do you ride?
The incorrect camera angles and the ridiculously fast specification timings on the screen is what I could only focus on. 😅
I love the editing you guys do. Maybe this video is one of the few misses in the ocean of hits.
Thank you for letting us know! Onwards and upwards from here
Here in Mexico the difference in price is around 1k USD which is about 15% of the total cost of the Speed 400, so they are in the same market. Really the only thing the Speed 400 has over the KTM is the looks and maybe the fit and finish. I agree that the instrument cluster would have been so much better on the Speed had the tachometer being the analog and the speedo digital one.
Information/specs displayed in the video disappears way too quickly, impossible to read without pausing the video. please keep it a little longer so it's easy for us to read the information you're providing.
Sorry about that!
Gonna buy both...only conclusion I got from here 😅
Bwahahahaha
@powerdriftofficial you guys should increase the time the specs are displayed over the video. In some of the frames they are hardly there for a second so I'll have to go back and pause which isnt ideal
We hear you bud!
Agreed, my one complaint about the vid.
The only downside of gen 3 duke is the looks. I'll wait for Triumph to open a showroom in guwahati.
But looks are subjective no? Some like it, some don’t
It's already opened in guwahati
@@hirakmedhi7607 thanks for the information.
Owned a gen 2 390 for 6 years and loved it. Im sure the new bike is better but to me not quite as good looking but better than the gen 1. I now own a Hornet which is brilliant but again not the best looking bike out there. If i went back down to this size bike I'm not sure which of these id have to be honest. Maybe the Triumph🤔
Which Triumph though? The Speed or the Scrambler?
Got my Duke 390 a few days back, It Literally Flies above 5000 RPM, So much acceleration that I have to grab the handles very firmly so it doesnt leave me behind. In love with this machine
It’s wild after 5K
Guys you have not included ownership point of view. Triumph service interval and annual cost is considerably less than KTM. Cannot miss this from an ownership pov.
The interval is still one year. Plus the network is still not as strong as KTM
I bought an RC 390 in 2014, Got a Gen 2 Duke 390 in 2018. So my opinion is kinda set in stone. You ride a KTM and accept it for it is, you won't find a reason to switch to a different bike. And being 6 ft, I can agree to what Varun is saying, Touring is not Ideal on this one. Not bad, but not phenomenal either.
Perfect comment tbh!
Speed 400 was so comfortable completed 900km within just 10 days of purchase.
How does it hold up on highways? Here in the States I think a minimum of speed would be 120kph with some room to spare.
@@1981menso Well I prefer to cruise at the sweet spot i.e 110kph but it can hold up 120kph on the highway with ease.

Simply put. If you're under 25, you're probably gonna like the 390 more. More mature riders will enjoy the Speed more. Exceptions are always there, of course.
Actually, its the other way around.
@@powerdriftofficial you're saying an older, matured person is going to prefer the Duke? Something just feels wrong about that. 😛

Where are these two looking while talking? I mean, hello! We are the audience 😂.
Kept switching between primary and secondary cams. But we realize where we went wrong. Apologies
Gen 3: those tank shrouds or extensions whatsoever looks unnecessary.

No brand can fare against the gen 3 390, It's VFM, Spec, Handling, Power, Drivability, Braking, Heat management, Sexy Looks, Electronics, Features. I believe no other single cylinder engine in the 400cc segment can even get closer to this, not now and will never in the future.

Huh?
KTM spilt orange paint can intentionally while deciding colors for the duke 390.
Orange is the brand theme literally. Maybe too much orange with the new one.
Ownership review (3 months)
Pros:
1. Love the torque; perfect for city rides, 5/5.
2. Exceptional handling, rating it 5/5.
3. Impressive build quality, deserving a 5/5.
4. Great for highway runs (touring), with a rating of 4/5.
Cons:
1. Experiencing vibrations after 90-100 kmph.
2. Could have been slightly heavier for a 400cc bike, especially coming from a Classic 350.
3. Headlamp visibility at night is poor.
4. Mileage is around 27/28.
Conclusion:
Overall, I love the bike, and I don’t regret buying it.
Good summary
Use a better engine oil & see the refinement improve over 90kmph.. Only above 130kmph the vibes start annoying!..

100!
@@digital-_universe Agreed! But they are making their bikes stand out even more with the recent colour options even after knowing what their brand image has become bcoz of those "riders". I would really appreciate black or white colour options as they use to be before
If it aint orange, it aint KTM. I love the orange color and I bought one just cuz of the orange color.
@@JandN I don't hate orange. I know it depicts their brand but sometimes they overdo it and with the gen 3 they did. The gen 2 version has some colour options you could chose from. Black, white or go with complete orange. With gen 3 you have orange or blue that in my opinion doesn't go well with the bike
I’m riding a speed twin 1200 and seriously downsizing to one these days, I tried the scrambler 400x found it absolutely awful 😞 nice chat gentleman have you convinced me ?
From a 1200 to a 400, anyone will find it awful :P
Pillion foot pegs are very close to riders pegs, which ends up both nudging their feet whenever either one moves.
For the Speed or the Duke?
@@powerdriftofficial in Speed, "krke dekho, accha lgta hai" 😄
😂@@anan7s294
Sharing my opinion, after riding both extensively.
Speed 400 is a triumph in all sense but the engine. I love how there are no flat spots throughout the rev range but engine mannerisms are more like the 660 engine and not like a speed twin. The calm composure is not there but yes engine’s torque is much much better than so many bikes. I’d goto the length to say this engine is what new Himalayan should have gone for.
On the other hand duke has become a perfect street bike. I have no complaints from duke. It’s become linear & peppy. The nimbleness and the agility in this bike now. Amazing!!!

Just like the reviewers said in the above video for the speed 400. But i guess the compro is also very simple. Go for the duke 250 if you want better tech or you wish to visit the tracks regularly. Get the speed 400 if you want to own a bigger capacity bike and yet have a comfortable regular city rides and decent highway experience.

Not happening anytime soon. Honda does not have a media unit.
Please compare speed 400, duke 250 and honda 300r. Same price group.
That's a good comparison but no media unit from Honda
The looks of the big plastic shrouds on the Duke are debatable. There for practical reasons, don't know exactly what, but must be something to do with wind/air deflection. Kind of angled like the MotoGP winglets for extra downforce at the front... not sure that's necessary in this category of motorcycling. Anyone else know the full function of these shrouds?
Ofcourse! Looks are subjective anyway. With what we know, they are form over function for now.
@powerdriftofficial I'm a little undecided what I think about them. I don't love them, don't hate them.
This bike sounds almost perfect for the category. My only little gripe is the overall weight. It's only 15-20kg lighter than the 790, but 25-30kg heavier than the Honda CB300r. Ok, the Duke's engine is over 100cc larger and produces an extra 14bhp over the Honda. But I'm just not sure if it compensates quite enough for the extra weight. If I'm handling 170kg, I'm wanting a bigger bike than a 400 single. Part of buying a single is for that reduced weight. And that punchy torque from the thumper benefits too.
I wouldn't think twice about buying the Duke 390 if the weight was reduced to 155, ideally 150, but that might be asking slightly too much. The Herald Brute 500 (450cc) weighs 143kg (dry). That is a more expensive bike but the Duke still shouldn't be 170kg.
@@wolfpackpete6408 this is the reason why I am attracted to the cb300r myself. At 146 kgs, it seems perfect for zipping around town. Even with its lower capacity engine, it probably manages to keep up with a 390 up until the 100 kmph mark easily.
@NatrajChaturvedi I had a CB300r briefly earlier this year. Ok, I barely used it for various reasons. It was kind of nice but I didn't even get it run-in. I bought it for my delivery job which I'm barely doing anymore. For town work, a Forza 300 is faster and much more comfortable and easier for u-turns. I completely understand why people would prefer a geared bike. I like the idea of geared bikes better. They are mostly better. The CB300 floated over potholes and bumps in the road far better than the Forza! But a scooter is still better overall for town driving, and there's no way my CB300R would match my Forza 0-50/60mph!!!
A video should be done. CB300R vs Duke390.
Another thing I felt from the little use I made of my CB300R, is that it didn't want to rev to the redline. Maybe because it was new and not run-in? While this Duke apparently wants to rev hard. So maybe the Duke will be faster, assuming the rider works the engine the way it's designed to.
@@wolfpackpete6408 Thanks for sharing your experience. I am from India and our road conditions are different than yours but still you have given me some food for thought and I may chose a different machine now (Honda is gonna launch Forza 300 soon here as well) when I make the final call on what to buy.
Altho I personally am the kind of person who would rather have a gear motorcycle than a gearless scooter. Still I get why some would prefer a scooter over a motorcycle and to each their own I guess.
Both these guys look like they are looking at someone else other than the camera 😅
