anyone watching recently...if your tab sketches are pulling away from the lid when you specify dimentions, if you right click on the line that faces with the lid you have the option of fixing the line in place, this will stop the line sketch detatching from the lid.

To everyone that is struggling at 7 minute mark where the line does not snap to the lid. DO THIS ( I found Lars' response deep in comments to this problem)
    1. Hit P to bring out project tab.
    2. Click on the line of the lid
    3. click OK.
Now your line will be included in your sketch and you can snap to it.

Lars is the best teacher ever because he doesn't just tell you how to do things in Fusion 360 but explains the concepts and the why's of how the program works, not to mention his advice to start with using shortcuts instead of searching through menus is much better. I started watching another set of Beginner Fusion 360 videos which were highly recommended but found them hard to follows. Lars makes it easy to learn this program.

So let me get this straight. This is a tutorial video series for beginners that actually explains how to use the program tools to complete a full project involving all the steps involved from start to finish instead of spending 30 minutes hovering over every tool icon in the suite while reading the names of each tool? I'm a bit confused, there must be some mistake, you have mistakenly created an opportunity for a savvy beginner to actually learn how to use this software. The content creator community will be outraged. I fear the repercussion for these outrageous actions will be severe.
I found this set of 3 videos very comprehensive. As a brand new user in Fusion 360 I was able to work along side the video in real time with the ability to step back and review at any time. I received my first 3D printer today in the mail and if I ever get it built this will be the first thing that I print from my own preparation.
Thumbs Up, and a new Subscription.
    Thank You Mr. Christensen!

The problem that a lot of people facing is, while drawing the lines for lid guide, we were unable to set the dimensions as Lars did in the video. The solution I found was simply draw all the lines(resultantly the lid guide will be floating in the air or will go inside the lid) then select the colinear option from the constraints menu and select the bottom line of the lid guide as one geometry and lid surface as another geometry. Hope this helps you guys as well.

Thanks. Seriously, thanks. I'm new to 3D printing, and consequently to 3D modeling, I managed somehow to make even some complex pieces with Fusion 360 and as a tinkerer I honestly thought this software was created by Satan to make the humankind suffer. But holy hell how much wrong I was. I had the overconfidence to think I could figure everything out by myself, and I had all it wrong. This is honestly a remarkable piece of software and you tutorials are simply great. I will follow them all and start from the very beginning to (possibly) get it right. I started with Fusion 360 yesterday. These tutorials are great and I'm learning fast. Most problems I encounter with the videos so far seem to be related to a redesigned interface since the original filming. For instance, at the 6:56 mark I was not able to continue because a few things looked and behaved differently.
Have you considered refreshing the videos to use the current Fusion 360 UI? Probably a good starting place would be the Absolute Beginner series.

    Software Version Different
As an absolute beginner, just downloaded software, which is significantly more recent that the software used in video. Got stuck (and frustrated) multiple times, partly due to the different software versions. Would love to see these videos updated.
Accidentally stumbled on the 'how to navigate' video, which helped immensely. Painfully got thru the three videos, now going back to repeat them. This time should be easier.

I was afraid of using Fusion 360 because of its different tools that are at the top.
A whole lot of "I have no idea which to use" to even begin something.
With this series, the way you explained the shortcuts, the rule of a sketch on a plane or surface, the clear explanation of every step, made it easier for me to grasp.

Problem with making LID tabs at 7:00 min in video (Response to Juan Manuel Garcia). It appears that the new version of Fusion 360 has a slight difference that needs to be done at 8:33 of the video. In order for the tab on the lid to be anchored on the lid surface, it looks like you have to use the "Colinear" constraint BEFORE you add dimensions to the tab, or the tab will move off the surface of the lid. To do this, select the "Colinear" constraint and then select the line for the bottom of the tab and then also select the line corresponding to the surface of the lid that you want to anchor the tab to. I noticed that unless you do this step, the tab does not go from BLUE to BLACK and therefore can't be extruded. Thanks for the great videos Lars, Cheers!

Excellent teaching, thank you Lars, and I look forward to following further videos!
I but I have found that the differences between the version of Fusion 360 and my version - only just got it - make some things seem to happen very differently! If you CAN find the time, I think an updated version would be worth doing.
One thing I found was in drawing the lid 'guides'. When I used line to sketch the first shape, the point wouldn't snap to the surface, and it drew as a completely independent shape. The only thing it would recognise was the construction line. When I dimensioned it, the shape moved UP away from the lid surface! I had to do some exploring of my own to get it in the right place!
I also find that your links in the videos don't work, I had to use the links in the description.

Fist, after going through about a dozen other F360 tutorials yours is the first one that did not leave me ready to quit. Most other seem to be wanting to set a speed record in passing out info without explaining much. I am coming from Old School drafting (remember they days when we did it with pencils on a drafting board?) and the early days of CAD. Last Autocad I used was R14. Parametric drafting was something that was just coming out back then. I'm back learning because my son and I have some things we want to create in 3D printing for a project we are working on.
You are an awesome instructor. Teaching this Old Dog new tricks.
Here is my problem. When trying to do the dimensions around time stamp 9:03 everything works well until I try to do the apex to base. At that time the entire sketch shifts down to match the 5mm height instead of moving the apex point down. Have done undo back to the beginning of the sketch and even back to setting the offset to the ot the plain and keep getting the same results. Any clue what I am doing wrong?

So far the best tutorial I have seen to date, very informative but(there's always that but), at exactly 7:00 minutes into the video you are putting a line starting at the lid and you put your cursor down to the lid and you get the crosshair and click. I don't get a crosshair plus also when you do click on the lid, you get 2 red circles on each end of the line segment in which I don't get either. Without being able to get this I am stuck at this point and can not go further. What am I doing wrong?
Edit: Got it!!! Read Mr. Randoms post below and that did the trick. :)

If your sketch is jumping off the lid when creating dimensions (8:50 or 12:50) try rotating your model (shift + middle click/drag) and select the bottom line of the trapezoid. Right click and select Fix/Unfix, then return to the orthographic view by clicking on the face of the cube in the top right corner.
Edit: do this before creating the dimensions

You have a great talent for teaching which is incredibly difficult to find for more complicated subjects. You break difficult concept into smaller more digestible parts and reiterate them multiple times to help them stick in the brain. Thank you for making these videos.

hi, so i've been modeling the box while watching the video and some times there are some differences probably because of diferent version and i´ve been hable to solve them, but when making the line for the lids of the lid (minute 6:57 of the video) the cross doesn't sanp to the blue line that appears at the edge of the body of the lid.
