One of the many reasons why I like Fusion 360, flexibility. If I want to model using surfaces, just like I used to do in Rhino, I can. Fusion 360 is so versatile and powerful, it's a pleasure to work with.
Michael Cramblet hey lil help here. I need a laptop for my engineering design softwares. I am doin mechanical engineering. I can't spend 2-3k dollars on workstations. Can I run the softwares like Siemens NX ,solidworks, Inventor ,CATIA etc on geforceGTX 1060? Quadros are expensive. Intel i5 7th Gen, 16gb ram, with SSD , and GTX geforce 1060 is all that I can afford.. .
zavior hunt Yes, you sure can run them. You don't need a workstation to run Solidworks, my 4GB RAM laptop from 2013 with no SSD could run SW 2016. Now I have a 16GB RAM with SSD and 2GB VRAM, but use Fusion and it's good, but sometimes I have problems when there's too much features, due to my hasty way of modelling.
zavior hunt I've never used those 2, but I guess you can. The question is at what point of the process or at what feature will it work a bit slower. I can't tell you much, people who use same programs for the same use (I'm a designer, not an engineer) could tell you more.
This tutorial was PERFECT for showing me the basics at just the right speed. I was about to say "bro you really are a great teacher" then I realized this is the official account! Official accounts NEVER have tutorials this good... amazing job, everyone!
I'm just starting to teach myself fusion 360 and little tutorials like this are really helping me be more comfortable with the different tools and workspaces
Please do more! It´s mostly the "simple" or "beginner" Problems like simple surface modelling that everyone else assumes as a basic knowledge and they don't cover it. Thank you for teaching me new stuff!
One suggestion: Having done a lot of surface modeling lately, I think it would be nice to have an expanded dialog box for the Trim tool that works like the Split Face/Body tools. I had a lot of difficulty with the Trim tool because of how it's set up - even to the point where I opted to do multiple Split Face/Body commands combined with Face Delete or Remove.
Currently modeling a golf club for manufacturing and learning about surfacing and this tutorial has saved me countless hours, I am so glad autodesk cares about their products and makes well put together tutorials.
Very excited to have come across your content! Surface modeling has intimidated me for far to long, I've made it my goal to watch & follow along with 1 tutorial per day 💪
I'm just now learning Fusion 360 after years of ProE/Creo use, and tutorials like these are amazing! Thank you for this, I had no idea how powerful this software can be for this.
Autodesk is on fire💥. It's so user friendly and versatile to use. I have used the MODEL, RENDER and SIMULATION mode in fusion 360 for robot modelling for almost 2 years now. It initially had some issues, but after some updates it now runs so smooth on my Nvidia powered windows laptop.
First time seeing what the patch mode even DOES, so this was pretty cool. So much I have to learn with sculpt and patch and anything other than the model mode.
Still a great tutorial. I knew some of the overbuilding concepts, but what really helped was the solid proof by section analysis. I also thoroughly enjoyed the bending of the form splines to achieve the artistic look in the concept drawing. Smart and sleek lamp design, I feel inspired!
Perfect explanation, no skips, fully nicely step by step, advanced enough for optimal learning. Just amazing, thank you!. Already Subscribed, now Notification got in "On"
Thanks. The sculpting environment currently alludes me, thankfully what I need I can make in the modeling environment, which I understand. These tutorials will help greatly!
Taylor, Thanks for the design tips. I haven't been much in the way of a surface modeler even though I've been using CAD for nearly 20 years but this makes it seem so easy. Excellent tutorial and I enjoyed the pace.
Really interesting real world demo, on what would normally be a very complex non-linear creation. Thank you for sharing your experience and a great example.
great tutorial, I still refer back to it years later if I ever forget anything. Still makes me chuckle when he says "Mirror", sound more like MEAR: @11.30
This is awesome stuff! I really love it and it‘s probably the main reason for me for switching to F360. Freeform Modeling has never been easier and more intuitive than that. Thanks guys!
Since I’m watching this video 4 years later I’m wondering, is there still a patch workspace? I don’t have access to check at the moment but I was wondering if that workspace has migrated. Thank you, so excited to get modeling!
Nice tutorial, I was wondering: If you end up turning the model into a solid body, is the trimming necessary? I would think you can do without, since the center that is being trimmed gets filled in afterwards anyhow...
hi taylor , just saw your video it helped me out a lot , and i wanted to ask you is there any way that you can make a video explaining how to make a ripple like surface on a curved object?
After making this, shouldn't we have used the command THICKEN to thicken the walls? Are we supposed to do this right after designing the sculpt? When I try to thicken the body now after completing the design it screws it all up. OR, should we have made it a solid then shell it to thickness? Thanks for the awesome videos!
Great tutorial. Just a small doubt. On stitching the body it becomes solid, but not a shelled bottle. I'm unable to shell it. Any error that I need to correct in..?
I followed along, and got a similar result. Very cool and learned several new tricks, so thanks! BUT - I tried to do a shell command (to turn it into a water bottle, and get an error. I can't seem to figure out why.
Sorry to hear! Things like shell and thicken can be the most problematic. Its usually related to curvature, and overlaps related to the operation. If you really want to get to the root of the issue, jump over to the forum and share your file! Cheers!
Great Video. Would be great if Fusion would allow sweep rail with more than one profile so you can blend - Loft still produces only G0 along the mirror plane.
Great tutorial, thanks! I have a doubt. What would be the correct way to thicken it? I did it before closing and creating the solid, but I don't understand why it limits the thickness.
The curvatures becomes all too important when trying to thicken a surface. We have some new tools in the works to help you understand where and why the curvatures might be limiting. It's not much different than whats happening here: www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Repair-Self-Intersecting-T-Spline-Errors-in/
How a tutorial should be, fast, clear and to the point. Good work.
Thanks for the feedback! We'll try to model future tutorials in a similar fashion.
