Finally! An instructor who actually pedagogically breaks down why things behave the way they do, not just run along like everybody else here on youtube! Subscribed and with Mr. McWhorter skills in my toolbelt, I can repay that by educating others in my area...thanks once again and glad to be onboard of this Fusion 360 train!

Paul, your a brilliant teacher. Even my 66 year old brain cells can understand what you are teaching. I keep forgetting what you have said so I have to keep pausing and going back to remind myself but I'm getting there, bit by bit. ( need a sledge hammer to get things to stay in my head ). Other tutorials just leave my brain a mush so gave up on them, but yours are great and I'm not dead yet so your doing OK.

Whew!! This was a close one! I was searching for a decent tutorial on fusion 360 and was getting more and more frustrated. From your arduino tutorials I saw this course. The relief you have given me is immense. I appreciate your efforts to create these lessons. From my earlier searches I am amazed at how many lousy instructors there are. Man am I glad I kept searching! Your lessons for beginners come highly recommended by many people. I am as beginner as they get and the slow and deliberate teaching is EXACTLY what I needed and have been looking for so I can learn 2D sketching for my CNC plasma table. There are so many great tutorials out there but so many just race through without giving the very basics first. Thank you for lesson 1, I will be following for more content. Thank you again!!!

I've been trying to learn Fusion for years. I gave up and stuck with Vcarve. Now I bought another plasma table for home use and am looking for alternatives to Vcarve. I'm learning Inkscape (surprisingly similar to Vcarve and still way easier than Fusion).

I watched your Arduino playlist and learned a lot from it and thought that the logical next step after making electronic boards is to 3d print a case for them, I was so happy to see that you have an entire series on using fusion 360.

Paul I hate to bother you and first want to thank you so much for your videos. I recently purchased an enterprise seat with Fusion 360 in large part because I was confident I could master the program sufficiently after going through many of your lessons. I had tried CAD before and gave up because it was an illogical confused random mess. Not so with Fusion there seems to be an understandable congruent logic behind it.
So I was feeling very blessed when I was awoken by my neighbors shooting a shotgun in the valley next to my home. See it made me remember I had seen an email about 1/2 price subscription so I pulled it up called and got a seat for under $250.00 with an hour to spare. I wanted an enterprise seat because I am seriously pursuing development of a commercial product that will have several patents involving a firearm. Hence my amusement that I was awoken by someone shooting in the nick of time, for the first time in the 15 years I have lived here.
All good but to test my ability to learn my son opened a student account and that is what I practiced on to prove myself capable. Now I can't sign to do anything on my enterprise account and Autodesk help has not been. They said they were going to expire my sons account so it wouldn't auto log in and last night it didn't but this morning it did again. If I die trying just to sign into the account I paid for that would be a shame indeed. I have called emailed and did everything possible to remedy this clearing cashe uninstalling and everything else. As good as the program is Autodesk's login subscription and everything related is an unmitigated quagmire of a mess. They have help chat that really is a series of automated responses called Ava that isn't a real person. They have a picture of a person and give texts back like a person so how would you know? What a shame a company of this size can't even have a live chat person. Anyway if a reader or follower can possibly give some advice I would be very thankful.

Thank you Paul for these excellent videos on Fusion 360. I am on my 7th complete view-thru of Lesson 1. I follow along completing the exercises over and over. It is becoming automatic with me. I have done Lesson 2 and 3 the same way and am clumsily learning the dance. Today I am back to Lesson 1 to make sure I haven't missed anything. Another 66-year-old brain here. I ran three software companies back in the 80s and 90s and was involved when the GUI on the Mac and PC (GEM and Windows) first came out. The design mantra back then (and ever since) was "selection precedes command" which meant that you always FIRST selected something by clicking with the mouse and THEN did something to it with the mouse or by clicking on something in a dialog box.
Your tutorial is absolutely wonderful for clearly describing some of the ways this program breaks with all those conventions that have built up for the 40 years that the conventional GUI has been used (if you go back to the late 1970s and Xerox Parc and then the Apple Lisa).
You very accurately described the journey I took prior to arriving at your channel: my son gave me a Ender 3D printer for Christmas; I built it and learned how to make Thingiverse objects (both activities, including using Cura, were a piece of cake); I decided I needed to learn how to make my own parts because 3D scanners just aren't good enough to create replacement/repair parts; I looked at all the CAD and modeling software and realized that I'd be able to do more if I could figure out Fusion 360 rather than learn a kiddie toy; I installed the software, I followed a few other tutorials, but then realized that even after hours of learning I couldn't even create and print a cube.
So, thanks for an A+ first tutorial, and I now have some hope that I might actually learn this program before I die (at 66, "die trying" takes on a different meaning).
    John Meyer
P.S. This thing still might be the death of me. Why? Because the designers seemed to have gone out of their way to do things differently, but without any reason. Case in point: center mouse wheel zoom. It works backwards from every other program in the universe. Why???
F1 doesn't bring up help, unlike every Windows program I've ever used or built. Why???

Yep, if there is one thing I understand is how to be confused by Autodesk products. They are so powerful, it is a hard area to break into. Sort of like C programming. Everything assumes you already know everything, so lots of tutorials are hard to follow. Still have not learned C type programming.

    • @noweare1
      @noweare1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@paulmcwhorter C is hard to digest but it pretty much the only programming language I use. I learned python but I felt like I was skipping a bunch of steps. Python does a lot of stuff for you in the background with C every detail is left to the programmer.

I started work in a computer services dept at a university in England in 1986. We all pointed Autocad problems to one chap because we found its interface 'user hostile'. We held the view that this problem was Autocad's designers originating in tech-drawing on paper and WIMPs (Windows, Icons, Mpuse, Pointers) were new. You could feel an invisible t-square moving about so it was perfect for drafts-men and alien to computer scientists. As you mentioned I too kept veering away from it with the thought "It does not do what I want it to" Thank you very much for showing me how it wants to work.

The box with the hinges would be the one to watch if youre only going to watch one.

I have been hitting at 3D printing new model train parts for my 1950s American Flyer Steam Engines so I can add digital technology to these old friends. I had just completed an update Kit to a Royal Blue Streamline Steam Engine which never came with Smoke. I have designed all the parts needed to install a new Smoke assembly with fan driven smoke and exhaust chuff synchronized puffing. I assembled the Beta version and needed to adjust some dimensions when the whole assembly just went nuts! Now I have a huge hole in the side of the main housing and I can not fix it I was so sick, then I heard about your lectures and found the channel in You Tube. I am desperate and am going to binge on your channel all day. I understand everything you say and all you stories about why we are here are dead on right. I jumped into 3D instantly and yeah I mage some parts and they worked. But if I need to change something it takes me forever or I just delete and redraw. I have so many trains I want to upgrade I can not afford all the time I am sending on fixing screwups. I am a retired engineer 69 years old and need to get these engines all done up before I croak, Thank You very much. I am stopping my vacuum tube Radio Patreon and moving to your channel, it is more important to me now.

I have been using tinkercad for a while, but one thing that has annoyed me the whole time is how difficult i find it to get the measurements correct, especially when aligning objects. This looks very promising.

This is just lesson 1 and it already have my eyes open on many things that could be done with fusion 360! It feels like I am beginning to get to know the app like the back of my own hand. Your method of teaching Mr. McWhorter is truly A class and you're able to make the complexities boil to reasonable simplicities. I have watched all your most excellent Arduino lessons and now it seems you have created yet another set of lessons of the same class. (Your lessons from "The Bible Boy" ARE THE BEST!)

Holy cow. I learned more in the first video than anything else on TH-cam. Most don’t start at the VERY BASICS. thank you

great tutorial, thank you!! ... even coming from a good understanding of 3DS Max, I was very frustrated with Fusion,, this really helps to clarify. This is a GREAT example of how to make a proper beginners tutorial... explaining the concepts.

This is a great video that describes the basics of how to use Fusion360. Other videos just dive into making something and hope you'll learn along the way, but this video describes the fundamentals of how to use the software. This is what I refer to as "teaching", a concept lost in most TH-cam videos these days in exchange for flashy click bait presentations, titles, and graphics. Thank you Paul!

I am on life support, but you have given me hope, thank you! I will keep on trying or keep on dying. I disagree with your opening statement, however, the problem, for me at least, has been that especially the new UI is very Microsofty, and I abhor that when a program tries do guess what I want to do next. I have done a lot of graphic layout as a printer (on a Mac), and precision and shortcuts were my livelyhood. The way you explain it, I finally get it, I think.

Compared to other tutorials, your teaching method sticks better because of your explanation of "why" and and best practices. Love having you as a teacher, excited to finish another binge watch for me on this series after finishing your excellent Arduino series.

Fantastic videos..I work for the president of the European Guitar Builders Association..Michael Spalt of Spalt Instruments formerly located in Los Angeles, and currently in Vienna. I am learning CAM and was frustrated with other software. I did have some training with Autocad products in the past, but have forgotten much of what I learned. Your videos are an excellent refresher..thanks for your interest and dedication to teaching.

Hey Paul, just wanted to take a minute to thank you so much for your videos.
You got me going with my raspie, and now I'm learning fusion360.
Don't know how to contact you directly but I'm wondering as a fusion360 beginner
would you be interested in any detailed feedback from me as I go through your tutorials.

YOU DA MAN, Paul! I've been following your new/improved/most excellent Arduino series. Somehow I reached the conclusion that I could use Autodesk's Fusion 360 for Hobbyists, and BAM!, there you are again teaching how to do that!!! I just downloaded/installed Fusion 360 and started looking for tutorials on TH-cam and there you are again!!! It wouldn't surprise me if you've already done the next thing I need to learn... but I need to learn how to create a control panel made from translucent material, holes for switches, rotary encoders, etc., paint it black, and then engrave labels in the painted surface so that I can mount tiny LEDs behind it to backlight the letters. I'm thinking I could do it all using a CNC router or CNC laser cutter/engraver. Or 3D print the panel, paint it, and engrave using the CNC router or laser. I'd certainly appreciate any suggestions! Thanks again, Paul!!

Great job Paul. I'm just getting into it. Just realized in the preferences, I can change my orientation to make Z up to match yours. Reason is my cnc machine likes it when Z axis goes up and down.

    Hi Paul
it is February 2020, Autodesk have just updated fusion 360 to include circuit and PCB design.
This would be a great topic for you to explore.
I am doing my best to learn it and think it is a fantastic development.
I thought your students would benifit from this new capability from Fusion 360 to intergrate electronics into real structures.
    Love all your videos.

After about 30 years of 2D cad work on various platforms and failing miserably to do much of anything worthwhile in 3D. I have tried a few different platforms and followed you on the Sketchup series so will surrender and see if we can make fusion 360 work.
Already found there is a big difference in trying to make things if I try to do it the way I did before. So I am looking forward your series.

You are an excellent instructor! Still valid for latest versions of Fusion360, one just needs to be patient with the user interface and they can find the same functions needed.

Rather than saying "right " or "left" mouse button, could you refer to them as "primary" or "secondary"? We left-handers often swap our mouse buttons to make the tyranny of the right handed world a little more comfortable
