I restarted 2 of my islands. I am not necessarily doing hard mode, but I am trying to take my time and do more within the game than just rush around decorating so I am fishing a lot, going diving, engaging with my villagers all of the time and just truly having fun with the game.
I like how you used the hard mode concept in a way that attempts to get the community back together. Nice one, Pat.

The issue is this wouldnt keep most the community playing. People would enjoy it for a few but they’d quickly stop especially having to wait a full day for more money. And waiting to sell things also would just annoy most players. While i think its a good idea for some people to stay engaged, the vast majority wouldnt enjoy this. People are already annoyed you have to wait irl seasons just to catch certain bugs and fish. Now if you could make this a separate mode in acnh i think that would work way more

I love to see the community having fun with this game! One tiny thing: in Stardew, you absolutely can get the money right away. Sell to Pierre, Robin, Willy, or Clint just by going to the counter when they're at work. Also, you lose nothing by putting things in the bin, while you will make less in ACNH by using the drop-off "nook box." It's hard mode, so I get taking a loss; I just wasn't sure you knew that about Stardew.
To be fair, I literally never remember that, so it's a mistake that I'm sure 90% of people would make.
Admittedly, the joy of the game has changed since being able to time travel. And since 2.0 a lot of hoarding took place. Part of why I turned to Story of Seasons on my channel and the single sell spot with after hours box is similar to the shipping crate.
This overall will definitely level things out and bring some fun back in the game despite it being “hard”.
I can’t possibly restart my current switch since I need it for my videos, but I _am_ considering restarting our OG pandemic island that’s got me into the game in the first place.
I don't think time travel was truly ever supposed to be a thing in AC. People just get impatient, don't wanna wait a few days for their store / museum etc. Plus abusing glitches and stuff for expensive items to sell bells.. lol
Back in OG AC days, Resetti was literally there telling you to stop turning your console off, and you would get SO many weeds from time travel lol
If people just played the game (as intended), they would not get burned out so quickly. But in the end, that's their choice to play that way I guess.. they paid for it after all. But I don't feel bad when they get burned out ;p
@@squeaku spot on! I just couldn’t time travel due to parental lock on our switches so I played the game as intended and that was the most fun and fulfilling time. Admittedly I turned to time travelling to make content for my channel easier but this coincided with me playing it less (or me editing so much left little time TO play). I’m convinced it’s the time travel and the easy of order bots and treasure islands that took away the shine. Convenient but at a cost.
@@AlexiGiovani I'm glad to hear that! I agree, I think it is fulfilling bc we worked hard for our stuff! :) I can see why you might do it for content purposes for sure! But yeah I feel like it takes away from the relaxing style of the game, but that's just me! hehe
I think nowadays everyone is just "go, go, go!" all of the time, we gotta slow down and just enjoy games and life :>
Oh! I think part of it is the whole "FOMO" thing too. People see everyone else's islands progressing and looking cool, while theirs is still just a tent and Nook's haha ;p
But I enjoy the grind hehe

This is almost already exactly how I play 😅 except for a couple of the more hardcore economy rules. But a lot of this stuff is how people without Nintendo online have always had to play 😭 lol
But I am so excited to see all of the ACNH creators play this way now!!!!
I recently started over but I’m already at 2 stars so I hate to start over my start over (if that makes any sense). However, I’m so interested to see how you progress. Just a note, for the markets, you can’t pick up any items when people are visiting but it can be mailed. This is a great idea btw👏🏽
I kinda unintentionally started this challenge two weeks ago. Restarted my island with the goal to make all the path designs myself, do all the npcs quests etc. Obviously there is also a bunch of stuff that I didn't do, bc pat just released this challenge but I might use this as a bit of loose guidelines for the way I continue to play bc it seems fun!!

you could play the game on your pc through fitgirl, that way you have a normal play through on your switch and a hardmode playthrough on your pc!

Nice! It seems I was pretty much playing hard mode all along. I've always taken it slow because I didn't want to rush the game. I'll have to pass on this because I'm working on a new goal with the Nook Miles Achievements completed. I have to collect every villager portrait and since I don't time travel, this will take forever 😆 will definitely share for the folks who need to be energized again about the game
I honestly feel like the nook box would be used more outside this play method would be if we were able to move the box. Like how in Stardew they're on your farm. I don't want Nooks right next to my house but it would be nice to have a drop-off box next to my farm
I made myself do my own hard mode- one of the things I have is a villager can’t go until I get their photo. And I’m also trying to get every single villager haha. It’s actually been fun.
i just started playing & had build that rule in for myself. i think i'm playing medium mode if this is the rules for hard mode
I do this anyway. Any villager I like can’t leave until I get their photo but the I made another rule. If they want to leave the island they have to leave :(

i play both games religiously and luv the idea of farming & growing crops in games.. i was stoked when nintendo announced growing crops in NH. however i found myself not caring for the crops on my island much as i did for mine on stardew😂 this video definitely gave me some new perspective! thank u for this awesome idea!!
But… for the Sunday market thing, you can’t pick items up off your floor when people are on your island so how can they see what you’re selling unless you take a picture and post it. That might help with bartering too if some people go to an island for the same thing
It sounds really fun! Bring the simple beauty of acnh back😊But once the first rule is out I decided not to join. Not way am I restarting my island and letting the villagers I love leave, because even though they are lines of code and pixels I love them with all my heart, they are part of the island, and I like the idea that they will always be there for me🥰

i think it would actually be a fun challenge to do this on an island you already have! throw away all your bells and start following the hard mode economy rules. slowly make your way around your island replacing designs you dowloaded with ones you made yourself, etc.
many acnh content creators have an easier time restarting because they have multiple switches. but it's totally valid not to want to restart your only island that you've grown attached to

The villager rule is similar to what I am doing on my island when collecting villager photos. I have to make sure they give me their photo before I let them go.
I would love to join in on this at a later date, as currently got an island project going. Gonna enjoy watching how this goes and watching others playing along 😊

I’m not sure if this is a thing already, but a fun challenge could be to design a room based on the items on display at your Nook shop. The challenge, use:
The 3 furniture (+1 if seasonal item is out), and 2 miscellaneous items in a 6x6 space via room sketch, on the HHP, an island home (yours or NPC).
My wife and I have been doing that daily and have had some fun. You could do the same with the HHP shop, or even add to the challenge when Red visits, adding the two furniture items to the list.

Making a nine piece path is okay to make. I made my own this summer with my no time travel/no Nintendo online. Definitely doable . I won’t be doing hardcore mode because of AC burnout 💀 but I’ll be watching the streams

While Im not doing hard mode, I'm definitely down for the "play the game without cheesing it" vibe.
I started only time traveling occasionally (mostly for stuff like the shops and whatnot but not for houses or bridges unless I move them), not planting a kajillion fruit trees for money (I still plant a lot because I do a lot of crafting and I move stuff around a lot), and I need to buy stuff everyday so I can unlock Sable's stuff and the Nook's Cranny upgrade (also I want to get new stuff anyway for cataloging)
This seems really fun and challenging, and I'm definitely thinking about doing it since I have two islands that I spend about ten minutes a month on since I'm so bored.
I have a question about ordinances though. Since one of the goals seems to be limiting the economy, are we allowed to use the bell boom ordinance?

I just recently started hard mode and it reminds me of how I used to play Let's go to the City/City Folk on my Wii. It's harder and it's way more limiting and you know what! That's a good thing! I personally hate the modern Animal Crossing community, mainly because they're all about Estectic and not actually caring about your villagers and playing the way Nintendo intended. So I'm glad a lot of the newer fans are doing hardmode.
I am doing hard mode and simultaneously doing a No Nintendo Online playthrough. The profile I have linked my hard mode island to is *not* linked to any Nintendo Online account. So, no market days for me and definitely taking things very slow.
I *have* to use all the furniture and stuff that would normally be sold in markets on my island or trash them when I get the trash bin.
Also, I have to get photos for both my starter villagers (I did not reroll), used a D4 to choose the island map, spin a wheel to choose which hemisphere and either do one NMT villager hunts or autofill.
I was in *that* mood when I impulsively restarted my former forever island.
I'm soo excited for this. Can't wait to start this, I'm gonna sell everything I have and give the money to my kids first
This is my second switch. I have my forever island on my main switch so moving everything I have to there. I just restarted and already moved a lot from my. main island to this new one lol

This past week I’ve been contemplating doing a hard mode ACNH 😅 looks like this video is my sign to do it.
My group on FB have been doing the Hard Mode challenge for a while now. 🤣 I told them, the first time I started the game it was hard mode. But for the new year I did do a complete restart to bring the love of the game back.

I actually just restarted my island and now I’m tempted to do it again lol. Or I guess I can just start now. I’m not timeskipping so I’ve only made a week’s progress lol
I would do it, but i'll probably get upset after resetting.
So, i made my own hard mode!
I'll explain my hard mode here:
1: You're not allowed to terraform what you want.
2: You MUST never kick your villagers out. Even if you hate them.
3: You MUST have a full Museum.
4: You're not allowed to change your avatar's face and hair colours again, after you bought the extra colour options from the Nook Terminal. (i think thats what its called)
5: You're not allowed to craft...ANYTHING. You can only get it from what's available in Nook's Cranny that day.
6: You're only allowed to make your own custom bridges, using the Island Designer app.
Why are these rules so specific? Because this is how i play my game-

@nintentalk Challenge accepted! I picked up a second switch so I could do this hardcore challenge, and also I want to do an island that is completely the opposite and totally cheaty face. So now I can move all the stuff off my original island, reset my original island so I can use it for the hardcore and hand my other switch to do both 😅

Obviously this isn’t for everyone and not everyone needs to participate, but I think it’s interesting that people are out because of a few rules they don’t like. No one is monitoring your every move in this game because it’s not that serious, it’s all in fun. If you wanna slightly adjust some rules for yourself (to make it harder or easier) do it.
I’ve also seen some people say they already play hardmode and be overly critical of certain rules (especially TT). I think everyone started playing some version of hardmode in 2020 but eventually many played strictly for design which lead to Treasure Islands and excessive TT. Then we got burnt out and many of us haven’t played for a year.
I’m determined to completely finish this island and have it be my final one that I can look back on.
