I feel like this list is for a person that is willing to go through soo much extra stuff that the game won't really reward you to do. Collecting every villager's photo is cool until you realize you only like a villager for their looks and talking to them every day is not fun to do. Collecting every flower, bug, and fish is nice to have a basic checklist, but it won't change the fact that these are supposed to be optional achievements. It won't completely change the game and make it new like it once was. It's extra work that not everybody wants to go through. That's why many people get burnout. There is nothing new left to accomplish from the game itself and eventually doing these tedious tasks will leave a person feeling empty again. Whenever I go through videos that are supposed to help with burnout, I realize that decorating or collecting everything won't make me enjoy the game again. I hope these tasks help others. I just wanted to provide my two cents and move on.
I’m so glad I decided to keep my island as a random theme, especially since some people will move out villagers that don’t meet a theme. Dream villager hunting is, in my opinion, a great way to spend time, but it can be very tedious to get the villager I want to move out of my island, especially because there’s not a good way to do it. Getting Tom, Static, Jeremiah, Teddy, and Judy on my island was worth it, even if it meant saying goodbye to Fang, Elvis, Phoebe, Sasha, and Willow. Edit: Okay, all of the villagers I said in this text have moved out.
Your suggestions are amazing! Unfortunately for me, I've already done every single one of them! I feel like my original forever island is 100% complete and I only log onto it to visit, change decorations for holidays or seasonally. My solution was to buy another Switch and play a second ACNH game that I can restart whenever I feel like it!
For Happy Home Paradise - if I wanna get rid of a villager but I still like that villager, I'll make them a vacation home. So when they move out, I won't feel as bad when they go lol. I just wish previous villagers in your game would remember you 😭 at least a little bit! (Especially when you go hunting for a new villager and you run into your old ones)
Gyroids reinvigorated my love for AC. The only issue is that there are 190 different variants and rooms only allow you to fill up to 150 spaces so I can't put all of them in one room. This is a shame because together they all make a song and as you add more the song gets richer. I really wish they would increase this limit. Sure, my basement walls are all covered, but I still have floor space, dangit!
Right now I am getting every villager photo in game; I have 63 out of 413. It's a stretch goal I have for NH. I have been playing Animal Crossing snice WW. I have never been so dedicated to a game. It's really fun. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Keep doing you.
I plated daily for a full year but now only visit occasionally. Having extra switch profiles gives you the feel of restarting without losing your island progress. It's also a way to buy multiple artwork on the rare occasions Red sells more than one real artwork. I like the creative aspects of pattern designs. Some groups have design challenges for clothing etc.
I got ACNH at launch, but never could get into it, despite the adorable villagers, whom I love. Finally, all these years later, I watched froggycrossing's 30 Day No Items Challenge series, and did it myself! I completed an island, did it in 30 days with no Nintendo Online, and didn't use anything that looked like a leaf in my inventory. That was really the only time the game was fun for me, though, so I'll just watch TH-camrs do cool stuff, instead.
I love time traveling. I don’t play everyday so I’ll go a few months without playing then when I want to play again I just catch up from the last time I played. It makes me feel like I’m not missing out by not playing and gives me more to do
I got this game about 3 weeks ago and I have a friend who's played for a while and we're both kinda helping each other and looking at all the cool stuff we get or seeing how we decorate our islands whenever I go to his house and we play on local mode. I think it's really fun when you have some friends to play it with especially when you're starting out and don't really know what you're doing.
Yeah, one thing that helped *me* with burnout was befriending some new players and taking them under my wings, so to speak. It really *is* a lot more fun when you get to play with others
One thing I don't think he mentioned is making a rock garden, very time consuming and can take a week or two if you don't time travel, but having all 6 rocks on your island in one grouped spot is so nice
My first long term goal was the K.K. records, I ended up making a second profile on my switch to help with that and that turned into houses for Tom Nook, Blathers and Isabelle since they never get anywhere to sleep or rest up when I'm not playing. My longest long term goal was collecting all 80 bug models and I've got them nicely displayed on plinths in the North-East corner of my island. I wasn't much interested in the fish models but I'm accidentally most of the way finished with that one so I'll display all the fish models somewhere too. Also need those three NPC houses all nicely decorated too.
I think it's hilarious that most of these tips are what actually gave me burnout in the first place lmao what helped me xas getting into making my own custom codes
I don't know, this video feels like it was done just for half the fanbase, the ones who overdecorate and have everything controlled. It just looks like there's nothing to do if you prefer a life simulator apart from "completing the game" even more. I wish villagers had a bit of a personality or a few more lines, they really feel empty
Yeah, and I wish there was a bit more variety with their voices too - that's actually why I fell in love with Tutu! I got waaay overexposed to the peppy voices on my sister's island to the point that years later, the normal peppy voice still bothers me, but Tutu is a *large* villager, meaning her voice is deeper, and I think she's just the most precious thing ever! I just wish we'd get more variety like that, you know? And maybe more small differences in written dialogue too, adding more sub-types of each personality
I just got the game last year, and these suggestions are definitely helpful for that reason. Not that I'm already getting bored and wanna restart, but these are things to keep in mind. I also haven't gotten the DLC yet, and I cannot wait to get my hands on my villagers' homes once I reach that point.
Love it! I've been playing almost daily since 2020 (my adult son started first, and I went from learning how to hit the A button to make a wish, to having three islands and eight "kids"!). It's good to know that some of my choices were good, and you've given me some more evil island ideas. Players, don't be afraid to change it up to keep it fun. Right now I have all Cranky types on my islands, but next week, who knows? Amiibo cards are your best friend! 😂 Old Pat
Really loving the content! I’m the kind of player that is still playing the game since I bought it about 2 years ago and I’m constantly trying to better my island. I don’t think I’ll restart my island anytime soon but I have definitely time traveled a few times in order to speed up the process of some things. I really appreciate the other tips and suggestions in this video like completing my museum! That’s one of my goals and I’m glad you mentioned that cuz I feel a lot of people neglect their museums! Anyway, thank you for the content Elijah and keep the videos coming! Always looking forward to your new videos and I even rewatched some older ones a few times 😅
I restarted recently and am designing my island with the concept of a “rural city”, if that makes any sense. Like, it has roads, lights, and all that; but it’s really just a town.
12:39 that someone is me! The grind really started once I began to go to Kapp'n islands daily (rip my nook miles) and so far, I'm like 2/3 through I think. I believe I only have like 30 variations missing, and there are at least 100 of them. At first, I made a gyroid table next to one of my villager's houses, but that totally escalated and there were like sixty surrounding her house until they were finally marked as clutter and I put most of them into my storage. They did get me to five stars beforehand, so that's quite impressive. Nevertheless, that grind of mine is actually quite chill. What is an absolute nightmare is my grind for all the bug and fish models, I don't recommend that to anyone who wants to keep a sane mind...
I always like trying to give your island a specialty, like a certain hybrid flower or something. As a kid playing new leaf, i found black roses pretty early on, and decided to cover my town in them as my specialty. I turned em into Gold roses as soon as I got the ability to, and having so many gold roses everywhere definitely made a strong impression on any of my friends who visited, even if they already had gold roses.
I mean, if you are getting burned out just try another game. You may get some weeds but you can always come back to your island later. I know from experience that deleting an island or town always comes with regret
I made the long-term goal of getting all (or as many) of the villager photos as I can. I've been doing this for a year and only have about 20-ish (with months of not playing too) and it might be a small task to do every day, but I have new favorite villagers I've never even heard of until doing this. I let my plots autofill and take all campsite villagers (if they replace a villager I already have a photo of). I also don't time travel at all. I used to in NL, but it made the game boring fast because I finished what I wanted in an hour rather than the course of a week. That week of going back to the game to continuously work on a section of an island or decorating a house in HHP in a few sittings of the game make the completion of it all much more rewarding for me. I've redone my island a few times because of this "this waterfall I made 2 days ago doesn't work anymore, let me try this" type of deal rather than just trying to rush an idea I have. It helps the creativity flow and an idea that doesn't work somewhere I then have in my head to put somewhere else. Is it annoying when sometimes I just want it done in that moment but can't because I have to wait for an item? Sure, but it gives me a reason to play the game tomorrow :)
One thing too not with NH but with NL, in NL Amiibo Edition you can sell your town and have a fresh start but with a TON of bells, doing this feels like a "prestige" system.
Really enjoyed this video. Just started playing, so very far from completion, but even as a noob this is good info for the progress to aim for and the long game. Also - considering many content creators no longer do ACNH videos - thank you!
My last playthrough I ended up hearing about treasure islands from twitch. It was kinda fun for awhile but for me, ended up taking the fun out of a lot of the game. I started over about a week ago with the determination to not use treasure islands except to get an ATM to put near the dock for visitors or my usual routes it ends up being useful. I’m loving starting over. Also, I am apparently getting some rarer kind of villagers and better than expected drop rates on rare fish
After watching this I decided to time travel for the first time ever in acnh (I’ve had the game since it came out) I felt bad at first but then I finally completed the critterpedia so it’s cool
im still new to ACNH, I just started last week.. I time travelled once, so I can move my house. then I thought Id never do it again, coz then I dont have something to look forward to. I was able to get 2 art pieces from Redd, so thats cool.. but I want my game to somehow still capture aspects of real life. I work from home so I have all the time, I can even keep the game going for 24 hours and check if there's a new bug out.. or if there are new message in the bottle by the shore, or if rodney is finally out of his hiding space so I can wack him with my net. I managed to get bells by spending 30 minutes diving into the ocean and racing after giant clams and lobsters, rest or do other stuff, then go back to the ocean.
I spent about 6 months away from A.C. but im back playing again off and on. Playing sos now and mixing it with A.C. just waiting for fae farm and fantasy life to come out. But A.C will always be that 2nd game to switch to atleast until my island is finished ...again.
I got tired of being an overlord of an island, it feels tiring and gets old fast. I'm playing the game closer to the older games. I wont be terraforming my island, what i started with is what i get. I used a random number generator to pick what acre has buildings and houses, and when villagers want to move out... they can, even if i love the villager. Makes it feel like the island is its own thing that my character lives on, and not a world i built to fir my specifications
Thank you! Some of these ideas can be realised also in New Leaf and City Folk. I'll make a restaurant and maybe a school... I'll take ideas from Happy Home Designer!
I recently unlocked terraforming and while its still going to take me a while, I recently decided that im doing a scifi western theme. It's gonna take a long time tho. But playing animal crossing is so genuinely relaxing that ill get there eventually
What’s that item at 8:47 called? The one in between the partition walls and behind the couch? I’ve never seen that item before in my life and I REALLY like it
I would love a version of this video on New Leaf, i play it daily and i still love it, but would be nice advice for who already did pretty much everything on the game.
My island is just farming. Like I have 3x3 plots of plants and a heck of a lot of flowers which will be moved as soon as I get enough motivated to do so.
reason i got bored with animal crossing new horizons= the island was too small for me to make anything cool and pretty, i couldn't move the village center nor the airport or docks, i couldn't terraform the beaches, the interior of my house was too small for me to decorate like i wanted, in short; the game limited me too much, there were too many cool items i wanted, but couldn't fit anywhere, i couldn't build myself a decent mansion with a garden, and also have space for the villager houses + places to plant all the food-plants, etc.
The way I don’t experience burnout is forcing myself to play it on a schedule! I have both NH and NL, so I go back and forth. I play NH on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sundays. NL is the rest of the week. I consistently look foward to playing them every time, because I make myself not play it too much and get bored.
When I got the game, I swore I'd never restart because when I've done that in previous AC games I've never gotten back into them as much, but I really wanted to change my island name and so I have. I'm using the opportunity to see what I can do with the island's starting layout, at least.
For what am my old island so where are you step off of the platform for the airport? There was two really pretty Easter planters that looks like there’s a flower buzzing all around and it’s really pretty and I put flowers next to it and the fence thing on the other side and the one particular one and I did a stone pathway and it just looks really pretty.
Themes don't have to be super direct. My island theme is about happy memories I have with my BF. I made the area in front of my town hall look like the park we went on our first date on. I added some bits from the city we met in. I am remaking the castle from my home-city that we visited together on a cliff, I'm also making my shopping district look like the highstreet there. I made different resident district look like a video game we both like.. So kind abstract but really fun. He also like playing the Happy home DLC on my switch and he's very attached, the first home he made was for Boomer and he keeps going to happy home paradise and visiting him.
I have a weird problem it’s not that I get burnt out it’s that I feel like I can’t be as creative as others I see like these big island beautifully decorated and I’m stumped on where to start what kind of theme do I want? How do I execute it?
You don't even necessarily *need* a theme. My island is part whimsical and pretty, part practical/sensible and part elaborate shit-post (see, for example, the turtle cult hiding deep in Tiger Woods, the forest inhabited by paper mache tigers and tiger butterfly models) But what I did is I gave every villager a personalised yard - most of them have a different fruit tree, but some of them have other stuff going on. I just made something to fit their personalities, you know? Like my normal villager, Melba - she really likes gardening, so she has a *big* garden full of plants and also some books. Sherb is a lazy villager, so he likes bugs and can't be bothered to maintain his lawn, so there's weeds growing around and also some bug-paraphernalia from bug-outs
I few days ago me and brother restarted our island and deleted all the progress and her animal crossing game and the reason why we did it is because 1: We got bored 2:My brother did most of the work so we wanted to move away but first he wanted to sell all of the stuff he put down (He put down half really but he thought he put down every single thing)So that’s how we restarted and should of seen this sooner
Genuine question: As you've said, you can eventually design the villagers houses. But when exactely? I've just got it so i am only at the beginning. But is there a specific goal you must reach before you do that?
You have to complete HHP, which means you have to make 30 homes and have a D.J K.K concert. Trust me, it's not as bad as it sounds. (But really what would I know, I started playing 7 months ago)
I've been wanting to restart really bad or flatten out my island really bad. I took most of my items down and sold them or put them in storage and I've been slowly redoing chunks of my island. That's been scratching the itch for now.
I used to be so stubborn about time traveling but now I see it as a n almost vital part(if you're still stubborn, a "necessary evil") of playing New Horizons. At launch the Bunny Day event ruined everything for me. That event ground literally everything else I had going on to a halt for A WEEK. I just needed a bit more stone, man! All I got was eggs! Eggs! Eggs! And more eggs! Completely lost interest in the game for months lol. Time traveling would have saved it
12:33 I AM! I almost have all of them, I just need to brewstiod (I probably spelled that wrong, what I mean is the one that u have to go to the roost for)
uhhh it's a good video but I wouldn't necessarily say it's good *against* acnh burnout. My personal acnh burnout stems from focussing on perfectioning decoration too much and planning out every detail too much instead of just trying out things and see what sticks in a flow
I just unlocked the ability to buy anything I can use for HHP (as long as it's for sale)! all you have to do is buy things from Wardell in the gift shop It's very handy and it'll help me finally finish my home and my island that I'm redesigning I'm on the gyroid grind! I have one wall in my bedroom dedicated to all of the ones I have... hopefully I'm almost done because I don't have a lot of room left on it
Thats true. I did lots of time traveling and that made the game boring to me for a long time. Anyone can play the game any way they want, but feels way more rewarding playing without time traveling.
I restarted recently.. since I started using time traveling, I have so many more items and recipes then I had my first time around. Also, when do all of the seasonal events happen? Like you mentioned the carnival one, but didn’t say what day it is. I’ve been having a hard time finding videos or any kind of list that tells all of the seasonal events, items, and when they are available.
I just didn't know what to do when he was named all those things I haven't done for 1 I don't have a friend to get other fruit cause you can only get your partner fruit and then you're native fruit not all the fruit so I can't get all the fruits
my island has raymond pietro mint bob freya Portia Etoile Ankha Muffy Mitzi I actually like my villagers, they're nice and fun. Heck, Mitzi gave me her photo and Raymond had me catch him a cricket and gave me his. I got 8 more photos to gain. I will have all 10!

😂 Old Pat
this video was literally posted at the perfect timing for me. i havent played in 7 months and i wanna play but im hella burnt out. thanks elijah!
Babe wake up, new Rocket Elijah just dropped.
My biggest issue is I don’t know how to make the island look nice
ikr
My island just has straight pathing😭
Less is more
Here's a tip for you: Pinterest is your best friend
WARNING: TIME TRAVEL CAN AND WILL BURN YOU OUT! DO IT WISELY
Or it can make the game less boring and long.
Playing the game regularly made me burnt out for two years and time traveling hasnt
I'm trying to get every villager photo...which is taking a looong time. That keeps it fun for me.
Plus redecorating to a different theme pretty often.
I'm trying to get Rosie and Tangy's photos
Thank you for the tips. I had been contemplating on theme for my kiddos’ island & I decided on water theme since they love water so much
I always like trying to give your island a specialty, like a certain hybrid flower or something.
1:03 Actually gave me a heart attack.💀
Same dude 😭
I absolutely love making moodboards for my islands. Makes it easier to remember my vision for my islands.
I liked this video. It helped me figure out what I will do with my island now.
I used to try to collect all of kk sliders music and it definitely made me have a reason to keep going
for me getting the picture of every villager is so fun and keeps me busy for a while 🎉
How many photos have you gotten so far?
It makes me so happy knowing that others still actively play acnh
5:14 Change the theme of your island as the seasons change 😊❤
I’m ALMOST finished with my island after more than a YEAR of working on it! I’v been thinking of restarting after I upload my dream address.
A theme is what’s going to get me more into animal crossing I think I might make a few boats and modern day things like bikes and cars
Never liked to decorate... I guess, my Animal Crossing experience will end soon.
After watching this I decided to time travel for the first time ever in acnh (I’ve had the game since it came out) I felt bad at first but then I finally completed the critterpedia so it’s cool
Super helpful! I have an exciting feeling that I haven’t had in awhile about the game 🥰
When I first got the game in 2021, I time traveled ALOT. That's what burnt me out the most.
12:45 Im only missing one gyroid! For 4 weeks, I just can't find it!!! It so irritating! I have them all displayed, but this one...
im still new to ACNH, I just started last week..
But playing animal crossing is so genuinely relaxing that ill get there eventually
i havent played this game since it was released and im so excited for how much has been added
What’s that item at 8:47 called? The one in between the partition walls and behind the couch? I’ve never seen that item before in my life and I REALLY like it
It's called "horizontal split curtains" :)
I have given up on flowers on my island
The best part about flower collection is: getting 5 stars!
Me and my brother will be planning about a garden for our island
You can redesign every home in animal crossing after decorating 30 homes in happy home paradice
reason i got bored with animal crossing new horizons=
the island was too small for me to make anything cool and pretty, i couldn't move the village center nor the airport or docks, i couldn't terraform the beaches, the interior of my house was too small for me to decorate like i wanted,
in short; the game limited me too much,
there were too many cool items i wanted, but couldn't fit anywhere,
i couldn't build myself a decent mansion with a garden, and also have space for the villager houses + places to plant all the food-plants, etc.
I have a frame photo of my first villager. He was chill. Then he bailed. But also WOAH!! how do I do all this custom buildings stuff
I’m loving the Christmas paths in June 😂
SLAY
When I got the game, I swore I'd never restart because when I've done that in previous AC games I've never gotten back into them as much, but I really wanted to change my island name and so I have. I'm using the opportunity to see what I can do with the island's starting layout, at least.
Thats exactly what I'm doing, completing my museum/critterpedia!
5:20
My island's first impression is a walled-off customs area lol.
This is a really good video full of really creative suggestions, thank you
Themes don't have to be super direct.
Yeah so I totally forgot about Harv so I visited, and now I need a lot of bells to get his co ops going haha
Gives me ideas for when I start my very first island. Sharing with what my wife started and now I think she wants me to start my own island. Thanks...
Get your own Switch bro. Play with your wife and travel to each other's islands.
I have a weird problem it’s not that I get burnt out it’s that I feel like I can’t be as creative as others I see like these big island beautifully decorated and I’m stumped on where to start what kind of theme do I want? How do I execute it?
You don't even necessarily *need* a theme. My island is part whimsical and pretty, part practical/sensible and part elaborate shit-post (see, for example, the turtle cult hiding deep in Tiger Woods, the forest inhabited by paper mache tigers and tiger butterfly models)
But what I did is I gave every villager a personalised yard - most of them have a different fruit tree, but some of them have other stuff going on.
Create multiple characters and role play between them. That’s the best thing I ever did back in New Leaf.
Time traveling would have saved it
Totally not me that got this on my recommended after restarting my island
"Is anyone out there working on completing their gyroid collection?"
That'd be me :P Only 5 left
This is a really helpful video! Acnh is an amazing game ❤️🎮
Love these suggestions! ❤
When I restarted my first villager was Raymon
12:33
I AM!
I almost have all of them, I just need to brewstiod
(I probably spelled that wrong, what I mean is the one that u have to go to the roost for)
15:35 NOOOOOO WHY DID THEY KICK OUT SKYEEEE
uhhh it's a good video but I wouldn't necessarily say it's good *against* acnh burnout. My personal acnh burnout stems from focussing on perfectioning decoration too much and planning out every detail too much instead of just trying out things and see what sticks in a flow
I just unlocked the ability to buy anything I can use for HHP (as long as it's for sale)!
all you have to do is buy things from Wardell in the gift shop
It's very handy and it'll help me finally finish my home and my island that I'm redesigning
I'm on the gyroid grind! I have one wall in my bedroom dedicated to all of the ones I have... hopefully I'm almost done because I don't have a lot of room left on it
2:05
*Demon voice* This is not realistic for me.
Rosie stays in my island...
*Cough!* Oh sorry I don't know what went over me... ._.
I thought I only had 2 diys to get until I checked them off in the new complete acnh book, i have 6 to complete them
As someone who hasnt even unlocked HALF of the game yet.. it will be awhile intil i finish everything...
In all honestly I find time travel creates burn out, becsuse is it means you can just do anything anytime you want.
Thats true. I did lots of time traveling and that made the game boring to me for a long time. Anyone can play the game any way they want, but feels way more rewarding playing without time traveling.
This video pretty much inspired me to get back into AC.
When you watch this a day too late, and you already reset your 2 year island
I'm sorry😢
I restarted recently.. since I started using time traveling, I have so many more items and recipes then I had my first time around. Also, when do all of the seasonal events happen? Like you mentioned the carnival one, but didn’t say what day it is. I’ve been having a hard time finding videos or any kind of list that tells all of the seasonal events, items, and when they are available.
I totally went on a gyroid grind. The Brewster one was the hardest to get!! 🤣🤣 But between nookazon and just straight grinding I finally got them all
I just didn't know what to do when he was named all those things I haven't done for 1 I don't have a friend to get other fruit cause you can only get your partner fruit and then you're native fruit not all the fruit so I can't get all the fruits
my island has
raymond pietro mint bob freya
Portia Etoile Ankha Muffy Mitzi
I actually like my villagers, they're nice and fun. Heck, Mitzi gave me her photo and Raymond had me catch him a cricket and gave me his. I got 8 more photos to gain. I will have all 10!
How did you get all that storage as shown when you cleaned up your island I’m new to animal crossing so if anyone knows can you please tell me
