BD wouldn't dare! Scott Johnson loved that I was there, haha. If you listen closely at 12:18 you can hear him ask me if I'm FloMarching. ScoJo: "Hey is Flo here? Are you FloMarching?" Me: "No." ScoJo: "No?! Never mind." He wanted to do a competition on FloMarching to have people vote which subsection played their solo the best (see the end of my vid). But then they just did it on Facebook Live on their page.
Huge thanks for filming this high quality video. I used this for the warm up transcriptions and it was by far the easiest job I could do. Hope to see videos from you in 2021!
Wow you guys are good. I don't know enough about drumline to know how unorthodox this is, but it seems very original to me and I'm surely digging it. Beautiful.
Also these exercise have abnormal rhythms as scojo has an emphasis on “mental warmup” so it can just sound out of time due to the nature of the exercise
It's in 21/8 (like a 7/8 feel), and at that part the rhythms are triplets with the accents going 1st partial, 3rd partial, 2nd partial, back to first partial. Sheet music here: th-cam.com/video/TRphR09Ymsg/w-d-xo.html
If you listen carefully to the snare flams(Snares only run) you will hear that the drummers are not together on the the first flam, Otherwise it was a pleasure to watch thank you.
@@radredg7656 Somebody is butt-hurt, aren't they? BTW - when was the last time you went up to members of a group and told them what you didn't like about their gig?
If you did an MRI/ CT scan of snare drummer brains I bet they would look different than non drummers. I am serious. I used to joke that good snare drummers had brains like snipers and maybe serial killers. That 1000 yard stare is very common to great snare drummers. That focus.
Ra's Al-Xander is the whole show in the same key signature then. Cause I’ve never understood the allure of tuning to a key when you have a 12 minute show which in theory is the most advance music around and should be changing keys a whole lot. Must be a real hassle to always keep those 4 notes in key
Really happy to see Brandon is center snare. Dude works hard for it.
Such a cool story
is that really him?
@@Mity0502 Yup

I was right behind the camera, and that lady is pretty lucky to watch the blue Devils drum from her backyard
Those base drummers are something fierce!
agree
Wow 😯!!! Love that base drum line this season. Top notch this season.
going to see these guys this saturday!! this was wonderful. kickass bass line and i wish the snares were tuned higher.
Proud to be here before BD takes this down 😉

Really like the audio quality of this video in particular :)
Michael R 🙏 thank you! It’s been many years of trial and error for me. And this is the end result :)
Man how do they get that beginning so clean
Gold3nFlame27 I know right? 😂
You git gud
Hahaha nice one
There the blue devils
Bc they have scott and theyre all amazing players
The base drum heads are the guy from the increasing intelligence meme

Sorry for the late reply but thanks for your kind words. I'm planning on getting more videos out for the 2022 season!

Damn THAT.... BASSLINE....IS....BADASS!!! 😮🤯
INDEED SIR!!!
You know it!! Retired bass drummer myself!👍
Imagine looking out of your house and the blue devils are just warming up there 😂
I used to love in Ogden nice to know that there are talented people in my town
If you’re not listening with headphones 🎧 you’re not getting the full vibe
Jacoby Selby thank you 🙏
Andrew Films Drums thank you for your A 1 content lol🔥
@@Coby011 I appreciate that man. And you're welcome!
Jacoby Selby or a bass boosted Bluetooth speaker. Trust me it gives the vibe properly
Amen, one should listen to this with headphones or speakers that have bass like me. I agree, those bass drums sound awesome!
It’s so cool to me that the system blue quads have the cut out rims so you never hit the rim during a scrape
Is it just me or are the Tenors tuned weird?
There is definitely a tenor outing tune, but yes, it does sound a bit funky otherwise
I might be wrong, but I think the drums are tuned so the tone of the drum goes with the key signature of the band
Jakob system blue quads sound like shit always lmao
Yeah, minor second between drums 4 and 3
It's the SB drums they have weird shells
As a high school freshman snare player I am completely flabbergasted
basses on fire!!!
Yes sir!
I’m a sophomore 2nd bass player and ooooooooh they sounded nice af I didn’t even know what half those notes were 😂
I think the basses could be tightened a bit more. I know I would want them a bit higher. But it's all preference
They are tuned to compliment the melody of the show. They are tuned exactly how he wants them to sound.
do the stick clicks sounds out of time to anyone else
i’m pretty sure it’s just because the clicks are closer to the camera than the rest of the drums so it sounds ahead
Gideon Johnston yeah seems right
Yes but also keep in mind they are human and warming up so they can drag things occasionally
Zach Plant Percussion Theyre not human they’re the blue devils
Also these exercise have abnormal rhythms as scojo has an emphasis on “mental warmup” so it can just sound out of time due to the nature of the exercise
Hopefully Colin gets back out there soon!
Found in the wild
Wait that Drummer in the Middle is that kid who was playing with them from like eight years ago? It’s coo to see that he made it. That kid is a beast!
Basses are bringing it this year
Anyone has the sheet for the opener in the beginning?
Legend says you have to be Scott's best friend to obtain the first 2 measures
10:48 is insane. I normally play BD flams at 120ish. Never have I heard it that fast before.
I could listen to those base splits all day
Thanks for this
You're welcome!
I was thinking the cadence wasnt to hard on bass drum then 9:31 happened
Cadence?? You mean warm up?
Snare #7 is my actual tech! I can’t believe he was actually in blue devils!
That's actually cool that he hasn't brought it up to you.
Everyone gangster till he warms up the tempo sticks
It's so very cool!!
YEAAA BAAASSSSSS!!!!!

“yeah baby”😂
What’s the one at 9:00 called cuz I wanna learn the quad part for it
BD Accent Tap
This rythm is of the song ( DIB EL GHABA the wolf of the forest ) of the great moroccan band (JIL JILALA) good luck
Wasn’t there four quads?
I don’t know how long they’ve been doing it but the one leg bouncing instead of mark time looks sloppy.
Humphrey Family Homestead It may look sloppy but I think they just go for the more relaxed approach.
Not a fan either
The ending of the exercise at 13:07. why would they do that to me
Cadets in the background?
Cadets weren't there. I think that's the Troopers you're hearing. I've got a video of them coming soon.
13:13 The guy behind is the luckiest man
YEAH NOAHHHHHHH
If you listen carefully to the snare flams(Snares only run) you will hear that the drummers are not together on the the first flam, Otherwise it was a pleasure to watch thank you.
What is my man wearing 4:28
Just x Lucky I was wondering that too
🤣🤣🤣
Did anybody see the guy to the right of Brandon mess up
Mds, como eu vim parar aq?
Idky but I feel like drumline instructors should start off their warm up by letting everyone free play like they did in the beginning
The bass drums sound weird when they play spread out
What is the warmup at 6:16?
BD Triplet Partials
At 12:00 it gets real
What if you would have told them „this is the last line for the next three years.“ 😢
Man do I wish I had a stand for my bass drum
why do they mark time with one foot when warming up? That's a unique look for sure
Not a fan of the wide stance right leg only mark time..
I agree!
