    Damar and Dukat (Biggs and Alaimo) are such great tragic villains. The characters would not have worked without such great acting. Same with Jeffrey Coombs

    • @beav1962
      @beav1962 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They yo-yo'd Dukat's motivations so much. I never felt bad for him, for anything. He and Winn really deserved each other. He got what he deserved, to be trapped with the pah wraith forever. But I agree that Alaimo, Biggs, and Combs were great in their roles.

    • @drockjr
      @drockjr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beav1962 it was my understanding that Dukat was to be written as Sisko's counterpoint. You are right to not feel sorrow for Dukat, he was written as a professional villain, not necessarily a tragic villain. Siskos baseball and it's transition to Dukat is a good symbol of this. Just like baseball, they have their turns to bat and run the bases, but after the game is done, they are just regular magical wormhole aliens

      @polycrystallinecandy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JnEricsonx Yeah, that's something you have to kind of ignore in Star Trek when they use universal translators (which is pretty much all the time).
      Another thing is that translation is shown to be without any delay. But due to differences in language structure, it would be impossible. For example, in some languages you can have subject at the end of the sentence, and you'd have to hear the entire sentence before you can translate.

    • @JnEricsonx
      @JnEricsonx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@polycrystallinecandy I'm guessing for ease's sake, Jeffrey just read the Vorta translation and they dubbed it over his original performance.

      The Dominion have their jemhadar, the federation has cadets from agrarian worlds

    • @banananotebook3331
      @banananotebook3331 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really post-scarcity, since it's not like if I, a civilian, wanted 3 Galaxy-Class ships for myself, I doubt I'd get it. It's a post-poverty society by design, we can do that today if we mathematically redistributed the resources, but there are still strategic resources, like dilithium or pergium, and most fundementally energy itself.
