So, there's a concept in most fps games between Hitscan and Projectile: Hitscan are typically bullets, and automatically hit anything they "scan" where aimed at, whereas projectiles have models and air time. Rockets, Grenades, Sticky Bombs, and also Jarate, Huntsman Arrows, Mad Milk, the Gas Passer, and similar weapons are considered Projectiles, and can be Airblasted
I think everything that comes out of a gun, with some specific exceptions, are projectiles Like, even the Dragon Fury's flames are considered a projectile for airblast purposes. Obviously with the added exception of hitscan stuff

As a Pyro main myself, I can confirm, he is indeed a LOT of fun to play once you get the hang of him! And I agree with Lazy on a bunch of points. Airblast is basically a god send for Pyro and makes your life playing him a billion times easier than just running in setting everyone and everything in your path on fire. The only "boring" bit would probably be the Spy Watch bit, but even then, it can still be fun especially when. You catch the enemy Spy off guard. Its so worth it in the end.
As a Soldier main I tell you a Medic + Heavy combo doesn't scare me as much as an experienced Pyro in close quarters. When I'm up against a combo, I might at least be able to take out the Medic before going down. Against a good Pyro my life is just over
I like running up on the cart, crouching behind it and covering for the heavy that’s always there for some reason. Really fun! Sometimes I also just vibe in engi nests tho too lol
Technically speaking, on its own the air blast cannot damage people, but if you push someone off the map, that’s an instant death. Watch jontohil2, he’s a great spy main
As a TF2 man I can shed some light on the situation Pyro in TF2 was designed as a close range dps class with an emphasis on flanking, but over the years pyro got more supportive options allowing him to take on a support role as seen in the video. Airblast: a non damaging reflect used by the pyro. It can only reflect projectiles (Rocket, the grenade launcher’s piles, crossbow bolts and many other things, not bullets) activated by a right click.
Pyro is, in summary, a jack of all trades class. Damage and support packed into one somewhat beefy boi is a force to be reckoned with. Eventually you’ll hear some… unpleasant… stuff about him from the community but that’s when we get to use our favorite phrase: “COPE! AND! SEETHE!”
It's actually pretty funny how Overwatch essentially took the TF2 classes' kits and mixed and mashed them to make a bunch of different heroes. Genji's reflect, Mei's primary fire, Lucio's push, all originally came from Pyro in a weird way. Hell if you think about it Reaper, Genji and Tracer are basically just Scout split into 3 characters.
So, some trivia: -Airblast doesn't damage anyone. It just pushes enemies back, pushes projectiles back (but not bullets), and extinguishes burning teammates. -The flamethrower (and certain weapons, for Pyro or other classes) can set enemies on fire (but not Engineer's buildings), which causes burn damage while they're on fire, and reveals invisible/disguised Spies. -The way Dead Ringer works it's that if Spy takes damage while he's holding the item (he'll have the item on his hand, in case he's trying to activate it), the Dead Ringer will activate, creating a fake corpse of Spy, reducing the damage he just took, turning the Spy invisible and giving him a speed boost . However, the invisibilty only lasts some seconds, and upon decloaking, it'll make a loud sound, alerting nearby enemies, and you'll have to wait until it's recharged to cloak again (and the only way of cloaking with Dead Ringer is to take damage). But if he's pushed off the map, it's instant death, so Dead Ringer won't activate
For the early Sandwich joke, yes Pyro can eat a sandwich even if Heavy is dead to gain health, it's instant. The joke however that LazyPurple was doing is how can Pyro eat a sandwich with a mask on all the time. The weapon the Dead Ringer is a shell of its former self. It use to be very busted but now it's kind of meh, it's still alright to use for certain situations. The weapon itself creates a fake corpse for your death and you would go instant cloaked while having high damage resistance. Upon decloak you create a loud as noise as its "downside." Back then, it easily recharged with itembox pickups or picking up said itembox while you're clocked to run away farther. Overall it was spammable. These days it has less damage resistance and not easy to charge, but giving a tradeoff of high movement speed when triggered. One of the most broken Spy sets back in the day was Dr. EnforCicle. Using the broken original OP Enforcer gun, with the spycicle that removed afterburn and had silent kills, and the original good Dead Ringer. Spy was just straight up a broken DPS class with this setup in 1v1's.
Dead Ringer is still meta, idk what you're talking about They just removed the ability to use it non-stop and made it actually have downsides from stock. It's still a get out of jail free card and it's mere existence disrupts the entire enemy team. But now you can't circumvent the cooldown anymore
Airblast only works on projectiles, not bullets (which are hitscan), and its only active for a couple of frames with a decent cooldown between uses, so you need to time your reflects well in order to reflect projectiles due to its smaller hitbox - you can't just press the button and wait for someone to shoot you like what I've seen in Overwatch reflects from Genji. You can also extinguish burning teammates or push away enemy characters with it.
My favourite Pyro weapon is the Dragon's Fury, which changes Pyro's playstyle from a support to an offensive brute that can shred a light class (scouts, engies) in two shots +afterburn. It also requires me to aim more, so that's a fun challenge.
The Pyro's airblast deflects large projectiles like rockets, pipe bombs, and sticky bombs. It can also deflect arrows and flares just not bullets and pellets.
Another nice video from ya! I have some trivia fir ya: - Regarding if airblast does damage: No. It only pushes enemies away from you. It is quite useful in pushing away ubered enemies, who are invincible to all damage except knockback. - The "Mmmph!" meter for the Phlogistinator is a bar at the bottom that fills up with every enemy you damaged. Once it's full, you can right-click/taunt with the weapon to gain guaranteed critical hits for several seconds. While taunting, you are under the effects of Uber until the taunt finishes. - The Dead Ringer is a watch that can fake a spy's death by turning you invisible, dropping a fake corpse where you were, and giving you a small speed and resistance booth. It does, however, have its downsides: > You can not cloak with this watch. It only activates when you're hit. > You must have the Dead Ringer active (holding it in front of you) in order for it to work. > When it fakes your death, it takes up half of your cloak meter. > Decloaking makes a loud, distinct sound that may alert any nearby enemies. > Veteran players can tell when a Dead Ringer is active, as its ability activates upon HIT, not DEATH. > And the one shown in this video: The Dead Ringer's ability doesn't activate when you die from hazards on maps.

The only things that Pyro and Mei have common are that they both have a short-ranged weapon that applies a negative status effect and also have a secondary attack that gives them a long-range, projectile-based option.
The way airblast works is that it can only reflect projectiles, since bullets are hitscan. The most important of them are rockets and grenades. But there are some projectiles that can explicitly not be reflected. Airblast can also push enemies back and extinguish burning teammates.
Pyro's Airblast (used by right clicking with the flamethrower) can reflect ANY non-bullet projectile (such as a rockets, sticky bombs, Jarate, Arrows etc.) On top of this, Pyro has the Home Wrecker melee which can break a spy's sapper similar to an engineer breaking it with his wrench. Pyro also has access to almost every shotgun sidegrade (with notable exceptions such as Engineers primary shotguns.) He also has some unique sidegrades to replace his shotgun, such as the flare gun which uses a projectile to ignite enemies and the gas passer which spread a thick cloud of gasoline that can set enemies on fire if shot. (Pyro is also immune to afterburn because of his flame resistant suit, but this doesn't apply to the Gas Passer which CAN give him afterburn. this however almost never matters because The Gas Passer ISN'T GOOD in casual, let alone competitive. It's mostly used in Mann vs Machine) (Edit: with the mentioning of the dead ringer. if you take damage while holding it out, you'll go invis and drop a ragdoll. You also gain some damage resistance and increased speed. the only downside is that the dead ringer has a distinct decloak noise which is VERY LOUD. Some other unique spy weapons include the Eternal Reward which cloaks you as the person you killed when you backstab them, as normally you undisguise when you attack. There's also the Spycicle that melts if you get hit by fire, protecting you from the effects of burning to death but stopping you from backstabbing until it recharges. There's also the cloak and dagger, a cloak watch that recharges WHILE you're cloaked but only if you're standing still)
A bit of Pyro lore. The giggles in his mask, makes him see this happy go lucky and fun world, where all the mercenaries are babies with wings and his flamethrower is a trumpet of sorts that shoots rainbows so he is unaware of all the blood and gore around him. That’s why when you see the little insights with the colorful world and baby mercenaries that’s what Pyro sees.
yeah, dead ringer used to be really busted. it gives you, like 67% damage resistance on the first that hits you and really big speed boost. But back in the day, you could refill it with ammo boxes. So, you had these spies that would just go for a backstab, dead ringer, get the nearest ammo box and repeat. A good spy with a kunai and dead ringer was basically immortal.
there's this fun little custom game where both teams are locked to playing only Pyro. there's a massive chasm between both teams, everyone gets ammo every few seconds, and it's basically Extremely Lethal Dodgeball. a seeking rocket is released into the arena and will randomly target a player. the goal is to not get hit by it and have at least one member on your team still standing when the other team is wiped out. two key things to remember about this: 1. The rocket gets faster the more times it is airblasted 2. The rocket will be crit-boosted when it is reflected enough times. both of the above are base game behavior(as far as i know, anyway), so it is possible to make a very short game of Crocket(Crit + Rocket) Dodgeball in a casual match.
You should watch the extras from this and how it feels to play sniper and when you get to how it feels to play demoman watch the extras from it there are funny bits and helpful tips in them
not sure if this was mentioned in the stream but Pyro cononically has a gas mask that gives him what is dubbed "Pyro vision" which makes him think he's in a happy go lucky land/utopian fantasy world and he's giving candy to the baby versions of whoever he looks at with a candy gun conveniently shaped like a flamethrower. so to the Pyro he thinks he's giving out candy when in actuality he's burning them with a flamethrower.
also there is a community game mod called dodgeball, where you play only pyro and need to reflect a bomb/rocket into enemy pyros (also the rocket becomes faster after every reflect); and their is hide and seek to, where the seekers are pyro and the hides scouts
Pyro is pretty easy but air blasting gets me caught off guard. I have my most kills as pyro with just the flamethrower. And one time someone yelled at me bc I didn’t air blast them
The main thing to know about TF2 and its balance is that in casual mode, no matter how busted a weapon, how many players you kill you always have a chance to lose. Even though someone goes on a 40 killstreak and dominates the entire enemy team, you can still lose to random elements such as random crits, autobalance, shifting respawn/objective times to give the losing team a slight edge and much more.
16:34 you're spot on. The dead ringer is op, almost all elite spy players use it, the speed boost is very annoying, because they run away quickly. You can't attack while activating dead ringer, though

When pyro presses right click his flamethrower does airblast which costs some more ammo. He can knock back enemies with it, extinguish burning teammates as well as reflect projectiles (rockets, demo grenades, arrows, sticky bombs, etc...) He can't however reflect bullets because bullets are hits scan and he also can't reflect certain special projectiles (like the laser shots from pomson) Airblack can be quite hard to time though - especially with demo grenades and/or arrows.
basically, pyro can reflect any projectile in the game, key word being projectile: bullet-based weapons are hitscan, and cannot be reflected, which is why as a soldier using the shotgun keeps you safe from your attack being sent back at you. as for the dead ringer... its a weird one. basically it fakes your death yes, but also prevents you from going invisible any other way, and is HORRIBLY LOUD when you decloak with it, making it very obvious where you are if you celoak anywhere near enemies. its basically more often used by highly agressive spies as a "get out of jail free" card but rarely fools good players that the spy actually died (be it only because the ammo box dropped by a fake death gives no ammo back, of because the spy seems to have died more easily than he should have)
Invisibility of spy is not invincibility, any bit of damage momentarily reveals them. Now imagine the flamethrower that can spray damage into every corner of the room, its very easy to find an invisible spy, especially since fire lingers on the enemy, keeping them revealed and damaging them.
Most weapons are hit scan, eg the scatter gun, sniper rifle, etc. But some such as sentry or soldier rockets, demo pills/sticky’s, pyro flares or medic and snipers arrows are projectiles meaning they have a arc, speed and also able to be air blasted

unlike genji deflect, where it's out for a while, Pyro airblast is only on press so you can't reflect any hitscan (bullets) since it's pretty much a 1-100000 chance to time an airblast with bullets that travel instantly
You can flaregun airstrafe jump onto a enemy and hold mmmmmph as you land on a head to cancel the mmmmmmph taunt to have the invincability from the taunt for a few seconds.
pyro is the person we know the least of. however, when the mercs disbanded, pyro became ceo of some other corporate (with his mask on) and miss pauling(organizer) had to set the skyscraper across of his on fire to reignite his passion and get him to join the team again

The airblast costs some ammo, i think it was 20 on stock, 25 on degreaser, 50 on backburner and... i dont remember if 15 or 10 on dragon's breath, also yes, its right click and left click
You’re never gonna get to her and her see the spare. The air blaster is the deflect you activated when you have your flamethrower outside and you release a large portion of the air to deflect select either arrow bolts. Rockets, grenades, and things like that you cannot deflect every bullet in the game, but you can deflect to the unique projectiles.

So you asked a lot of questions about the looks of the characters throughout this series. In TF2, like how other games have skins and cosmetics, this game has "Hats". There are all sorts of wacky and ludicrous cosmetics in the game that give the various classes all sorts of looks. Only a rare few affect the body of the class. Most of it is just little things like badges or pets. However there are some full body cosmetics reserved for holiday events or holiday event servers. 95% of cosmetics though revolves around the head with hats or masks.

Airblast refelect projectiles like rockets and pipe grenades, but not bullets. Also there aren't "costumes" per say, but cosmetics that you can mix and match to get your desired outfit. Unfortunately, while the actually game may be free, most cosmetics are not.
Dead Ringer used to be strong and literally the most OP weapon in the game. Back then Dead Ringer can provide all damage resistance extremely high when activating the fake death as well as invisible for a while. And spies back then use this to just tank the damage instead of what Dead Ringer suppose to be. And imagine combo with Kunai that can recived health + overheal after backstab. Yeah, it is very busted. Now it nerf to the ground and almost no spies uses them. Ability to fake your death stills there but they remove almost all of the damage resistance. But it gain a speed boost buff instead which technically a Get Out Of Jail Free Card still. But it isn’t as annoying as what I used to be.

It's still a get out of jail free card and it's mere existence disrupts the entire enemy team. But now you can't circumvent the cooldown anymore
Airblast only works on projectiles, not bullets (which are hitscan), and its only active for a couple of frames with a decent cooldown between uses, so you need to time your reflects well in order to reflect projectiles due to its smaller hitbox - you can't just press the button and wait for someone to shoot you like what I've seen in Overwatch reflects from Genji. You can also extinguish burning teammates or push away enemy characters with it.
Its really cool to see the pov of someone who most likely doesn't play tf2 get a little experience of it through Lazypurples videos. Good stuff!
My favourite Pyro weapon is the Dragon's Fury, which changes Pyro's playstyle from a support to an offensive brute that can shred a light class (scouts, engies) in two shots +afterburn. It also requires me to aim more, so that's a fun challenge.

The Pyro's airblast deflects large projectiles like rockets, pipe bombs, and sticky bombs. It can also deflect arrows and flares just not bullets and pellets.

- Regarding if airblast does damage: No. It only pushes enemies away from you. It is quite useful in pushing away ubered enemies, who are invincible to all damage except knockback.
- The "Mmmph!" meter for the Phlogistinator is a bar at the bottom that fills up with every enemy you damaged. Once it's full, you can right-click/taunt with the weapon to gain guaranteed critical hits for several seconds. While taunting, you are under the effects of Uber until the taunt finishes.
- The Dead Ringer is a watch that can fake a spy's death by turning you invisible, dropping a fake corpse where you were, and giving you a small speed and resistance booth. It does, however, have its downsides:
> You can not cloak with this watch. It only activates when you're hit.
> You must have the Dead Ringer active (holding it in front of you) in order for it to work.
> When it fakes your death, it takes up half of your cloak meter.
> Decloaking makes a loud, distinct sound that may alert any nearby enemies.
> Veteran players can tell when a Dead Ringer is active, as its ability activates upon HIT, not DEATH.
> And the one shown in this video: The Dead Ringer's ability doesn't activate when you die from hazards on maps.

Pyro's Airblast (used by right clicking with the flamethrower) can reflect ANY non-bullet projectile (such as a rockets, sticky bombs, Jarate, Arrows etc.)
On top of this, Pyro has the Home Wrecker melee which can break a spy's sapper similar to an engineer breaking it with his wrench. Pyro also has access to almost every shotgun sidegrade (with notable exceptions such as Engineers primary shotguns.) He also has some unique sidegrades to replace his shotgun, such as the flare gun which uses a projectile to ignite enemies and the gas passer which spread a thick cloud of gasoline that can set enemies on fire if shot.
(Pyro is also immune to afterburn because of his flame resistant suit, but this doesn't apply to the Gas Passer which CAN give him afterburn. this however almost never matters because The Gas Passer ISN'T GOOD in casual, let alone competitive. It's mostly used in Mann vs Machine)
(Edit: with the mentioning of the dead ringer. if you take damage while holding it out, you'll go invis and drop a ragdoll. You also gain some damage resistance and increased speed. the only downside is that the dead ringer has a distinct decloak noise which is VERY LOUD. Some other unique spy weapons include the Eternal Reward which cloaks you as the person you killed when you backstab them, as normally you undisguise when you attack. There's also the Spycicle that melts if you get hit by fire, protecting you from the effects of burning to death but stopping you from backstabbing until it recharges. There's also the cloak and dagger, a cloak watch that recharges WHILE you're cloaked but only if you're standing still)

A bit of Pyro lore. The giggles in his mask, makes him see this happy go lucky and fun world, where all the mercenaries are babies with wings and his flamethrower is a trumpet of sorts that shoots rainbows so he is unaware of all the blood and gore around him. That’s why when you see the little insights with the colorful world and baby mercenaries that’s what Pyro sees.
yeah, dead ringer used to be really busted. it gives you, like 67% damage resistance on the first that hits you and really big speed boost. But back in the day, you could refill it with ammo boxes. So, you had these spies that would just go for a backstab, dead ringer, get the nearest ammo box and repeat. A good spy with a kunai and dead ringer was basically immortal.
there's this fun little custom game where both teams are locked to playing only Pyro. there's a massive chasm between both teams, everyone gets ammo every few seconds, and it's basically Extremely Lethal Dodgeball. a seeking rocket is released into the arena and will randomly target a player. the goal is to not get hit by it and have at least one member on your team still standing when the other team is wiped out.
two key things to remember about this:
1. The rocket gets faster the more times it is airblasted
2. The rocket will be crit-boosted when it is reflected enough times.
both of the above are base game behavior(as far as i know, anyway), so it is possible to make a very short game of Crocket(Crit + Rocket) Dodgeball in a casual match.

Pyro is pretty easy but air blasting gets me caught off guard. I have my most kills as pyro with just the flamethrower. And one time someone yelled at me bc I didn’t air blast them
The main thing to know about TF2 and its balance is that in casual mode, no matter how busted a weapon, how many players you kill you always have a chance to lose. Even though someone goes on a 40 killstreak and dominates the entire enemy team, you can still lose to random elements such as random crits, autobalance, shifting respawn/objective times to give the losing team a slight edge and much more.

Pyro is my favorite support class in tf2. There's a hammer that can destroy sappers and I named my "Norton Antivirus".
When pyro presses right click his flamethrower does airblast which costs some more ammo. He can knock back enemies with it, extinguish burning teammates as well as reflect projectiles (rockets, demo grenades, arrows, sticky bombs, etc...) He can't however reflect bullets because bullets are hits scan and he also can't reflect certain special projectiles (like the laser shots from pomson)
Airblack can be quite hard to time though - especially with demo grenades and/or arrows.
I don't think I've met a single pyro who doesn't have at least one piece of gear that involves a trip to pyro-land

Yeah, Airblasts turn the shot they reflect into Mini Crits, which is a lot more damage.
basically, pyro can reflect any projectile in the game, key word being projectile: bullet-based weapons are hitscan, and cannot be reflected, which is why as a soldier using the shotgun keeps you safe from your attack being sent back at you.
as for the dead ringer... its a weird one. basically it fakes your death yes, but also prevents you from going invisible any other way, and is HORRIBLY LOUD when you decloak with it, making it very obvious where you are if you celoak anywhere near enemies. its basically more often used by highly agressive spies as a "get out of jail free" card but rarely fools good players that the spy actually died (be it only because the ammo box dropped by a fake death gives no ammo back, of because the spy seems to have died more easily than he should have)

Invisibility of spy is not invincibility, any bit of damage momentarily reveals them. Now imagine the flamethrower that can spray damage into every corner of the room, its very easy to find an invisible spy, especially since fire lingers on the enemy, keeping them revealed and damaging them.

But some such as sentry or soldier rockets, demo pills/sticky’s, pyro flares or medic and snipers arrows are projectiles meaning they have a arc, speed and also able to be air blasted
All the things you can air blast are projectiles, mainly the snipers bow arrow, the rocket, and the demoman bombs. Maybe even medic's crossbow

unlike genji deflect, where it's out for a while, Pyro airblast is only on press so you can't reflect any hitscan (bullets) since it's pretty much a 1-100000 chance to time an airblast with bullets that travel instantly

You can flaregun airstrafe jump onto a enemy and hold mmmmmph as you land on a head to cancel the mmmmmmph taunt to have the invincability from the taunt for a few seconds.

You’re never gonna get to her and her see the spare. The air blaster is the deflect you activated when you have your flamethrower outside and you release a large portion of the air to deflect select either arrow bolts. Rockets, grenades, and things like that you cannot deflect every bullet in the game, but you can deflect to the unique projectiles.

So you asked a lot of questions about the looks of the characters throughout this series. In TF2, like how other games have skins and cosmetics, this game has "Hats". There are all sorts of wacky and ludicrous cosmetics in the game that give the various classes all sorts of looks. Only a rare few affect the body of the class. Most of it is just little things like badges or pets. However there are some full body cosmetics reserved for holiday events or holiday event servers. 95% of cosmetics though revolves around the head with hats or masks.

Dead Ringer used to be strong and literally the most OP weapon in the game.
Back then Dead Ringer can provide all damage resistance extremely high when activating the fake death as well as invisible for a while. And spies back then use this to just tank the damage instead of what Dead Ringer suppose to be. And imagine combo with Kunai that can recived health + overheal after backstab. Yeah, it is very busted. Now it nerf to the ground and almost no spies uses them. Ability to fake your death stills there but they remove almost all of the damage resistance. But it gain a speed boost buff instead which technically a Get Out Of Jail Free Card still. But it isn’t as annoying as what I used to be.
