@@self-proclaimedanimator the widowmaker/basic shotgun and Scout's scattergun have the same rate of fire, except that the scattergun deals 15 more damage per hit. Do you run the gunslinger with the widowmaker? If so, that is probably why you are getting more kills before you die, as you would have 25 more base health than a scout, and 40 more base health than a scout that is using the sandman melee weapon. The widowmaker is one of those weapons in which you just say "screw it" and run headlong into enemies while knowing that the only way that you'll stop shooting is death. The widowmaker is almost never used when playing standard engineer, as they don't want to make the choice between either shooting with their primary of repairing their sentry. It's almost exclusively paired alongside the gunslinger as a battle engineer.

Engineer is a class originally intended for defense, usually the objective but even in offensive roles engineer has to set up a teleporter and hold a area on the map so the enemy team cant push the opposition back. Naturally though with Spies being your primary worry (able to disable sentries and destroy buildings easily) as well as explosive and classes who does massive damage outside sentry range, engineer tends to be a stressful job as well because you have up to four buildings your team relies on as your responsibility (Sentry for defense, Teli for transport, and despenser for health/ammo supply), and with each building being important for your team, all the more reason for the enemy to keep it destroyed. Due to this, Pybro's (Pyros with a Homewrecker and know how to spycheck) are your best friends XD. Uncle Dane is a pro Engineer player who is known for giving tutorials and tips on how to play engineer, highly recommended. When you play engie though, its best to play online for full expirience, Single player bots will just waltz into sentry range with little attempt to destroy it effectively XD

In the main menu, you can go to "items" and then change the weapons you have equipped, but you can only use the ones you've found. Engineer has 3 buildings, teleporter, dispenser and the sentry gun. All of them can be upgraded by 3 levels by hitting them with your wrench and each upgrade consumes 200 metal, a resource only engineer has that can be collected by ammo packs, spawn resupply or a dispenser. The teleporter's upgrades increase the recharge speed, the dispenser's upgrades increase ammo, health and metal output and the sentry's upgrades are unique. Level 2 offers a much faster fire rate than level 1 and the third upgrade adds a quad missile launcher on top for extra damage. All upgrades increase health of the buildings and can all be repaired with the use of metal.
The general strategy for the engineer is mainly for defense with hard to attack spots (each map is designed to offer at least one of these), but he can be quite effective on offence mostly through his teleporters and dispenser offering a powerful though often overlooked advantage. The sentry is best utilized when the enemy doesn't know there is one or where it is. Frequently finding different spots to move your sentry around in tandem with game flow will get you some effective mileage more often than not.
Engineer is a difficult class to learn and play properly, especially in comparison to the other classes (except for maybe spy), but personally he's my favorite, most played and is one of the more unique classes in the game that you can have a blast with utilizing his various styles of gameplay through his unlocks.

  • @randomasain3632
    @randomasain3632 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Engi has 2 main play styles, that being defensive and battle. But DO NOT underestimate an engi with a wrangler, a secondary that replaces your pistol with the ability to control your sentry, making m1 your main fire and m2 your rockets. Using the wrangler allows you to rocket jump/sentry jump into some really creative spots. It's also good to mention the power of a good teleporter exit. Having it behind enemy lines can make for a powerful back cap, letting your spy go feral with backstabs to cut the enemy team in half, or an ambush with your team or by yourself with the Eureka Effect. This wrench will let you teleport between your spawn and tele exit with the downside of slower swing speed and lowered metal collection. This makes engi into a flank sub-class known as ninja-neer, making use of the Eureka Effect to get behind enemies to ambush the with your shotgun or placing a sentry nest to distract the enemy to take their forces to deal with your shenanigans.

  • @windhelmguard5295
    @windhelmguard5295 ปีที่แล้ว +3

generally engineer wants to build full level 3 sentries, although under some circumstances leaving a sentry at level 2 can be a good idea.
mini sentries are a great option if your team already has an engineer, or if the enemy team has a really annoying scout or trolldier, since you can place it somewhere in a flank route to almost completely lock it down for mobile classes.
and even if the enemy scout/roaming soldier destroys the mini sentry, if you remember where you have placed it, you know that someone is going to be coming from that direction.
another important thing about gun slinger engineer is that, while he can not upgrade his sentry, he CAN still upgrade his dispenser and his teleporter as well as the buildings of his teams other engineer, including their sentries, which is crucial to understand because a lot of battle engineers tend to forget that that's a thing.
my preferred play style for the gunslinger is to support my teams other engineer by donating my dispenser and upgrading his buildings as quickly as possible, after that i focus on getting my teleporter exit into a cheeky spot and on either guarding the flanks or on flanking the enemy team, depending on how well they're doing.
    IMPORTANT PSA:
if you leave spawn and you see a not level 3 teleporter entrance, go back into spawn, switch to engineer, upgrade the teleporter, walk back into spawn and then change back to the class you want to play.

  • @iminumst7827
    @iminumst7827 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Torbjorn from OW 1's launch was extremely derivative of Engineer. Torbjorn collected "scrap" to upgrade his sentry up to level 3 which shot rockets, and he could also use the metal to give out armor. Plus his main weapon was a shot gun. Since then Torbjorn has undergone some extreme reworks, with Torbjorn's sentry gun being nerfed heavily, Magma Core ult replacing his level 3 sentry, his primary fire power increased, and his armor ability replaced with overload. Now Torbjorn plays quite differently than Engineer.
Even Torbjorn at his peak Sentry strength didn't match up to the devastating power of Engineer. For Engineer has the teleporter, and there's no shield tanks in TF2 to block off a sentry with.

and once again it is time for notes
1:59 spy has a weapon called a sapper that enables him to disable engineer buildings. the sapper deals damage to the building it's placed on and can be removed by the engineer's melee weapon or other specialized melee weapons
2:21 the engineer has 4 buildings he can construct. the sentry gun, the dispenser and the teleporters (one entrance and one exit). the dispenser restores the health and ammo of nearby allies and also gives engineers their building resource which is called metal. the engineer can have up to 200 metal at most. sentry guns cost 130 metal to construct, dispensers cost 100 and both teleporters cost 50. all of these buildings can also be repaired with metal if they take damage and can also be upgraded with metal up to level 3 with each level requiring 200 metal for every building
3:34 yes and no. the sniper counters everyone including himself but he can't do much to stop a coordinated assault against him directly which is the only consistent counterplay against him since he can only hit one enemy at a time. that being said, sniper is not supposed to counter engineer inherently and the sentry gun is generally a good deterrent to keep them from interacting with each other. engineer's designed counters are the spy and demoman
4:21 sentry jumping is an advanced technique the engineer can do where he uses one of his unlocks to manually take control of his sentry to fire a rocket at his own feet, much the same way a soldier rocket jumps. the unlock in question is called the Wrangler and replaces the engineer's default pistol secondary weapon.
5:25 the sentry gun has no innate damage weakpoint of any kind. there are however certain weapons that deal bonus damage to the engineer's buildings
7:13 the engineer's conundrum is thus. you always want to build your stuff where it will do the most for your team but never so close that it's an easy target for the enemy and in tf2, the frontlines are shifting constantly so wherever the engineer decides to set his buildings is where his entire team should be setting up as a staging area to either launch an assault or hold ground.
8:25 if im remembering correctly, this bit was supposed to have "Careless Whispers" playing but copyright is a fuck
13:04 uncle dane is one of the most well known dedicated engineer players in all of tf2. he also makes youtube videos but his are generally more informative about what the engineer as a class is capable of

    Simple rundown of engi.
Has an extra resource called "metal" to construct, upgrade and maintain (heal) buildings. Caps at 200. All build-ables goes from level 1-3, each upgrade getting better ofc. Buildings are also unaffected by any form of crits or "weak spots" (excluding weapon modifiers). All buildings can be rotated and moved.
    _The Sentry Gun_
Great area denial tool and that's mainly for defense but if played right, offensive use of it can work just as well. At lvl 2 the firing rate doubles, at lvl3 it gets rockets.
    The Dispenser
Though it might appear as an miniature gas pump, it heals, supplies ammo and metal at a constant rate for any allies in a small radius (disguised spies included). Upgrading increases the rate (metal rates unaffected, metal given is increased instead) but not it's range. The metal supplying is at a much slower rate and has a cap.
    The Teleporter
This building comes in two parts, the entrance and exit. Whoever stands on the entrance gets sent to the exit. Upgrading lowers the cooldown between each teleport (from lvl 1-3, 10, 5, & 3 sec). The exit can be rotated and this impacts which way the 'teleportee' will face upon being teleported, vital to avoid camping spies.

Engie is a stressful role, especially if you're playing defense. I remember playing a game in Mossrock where I ended up being the only engie in a 15v15 game. I defended the point like my life depended on it and died 3 times. The first time I placed my sentry was next to a rock under the point, it held out long until a spy got to it and the soldier shot me to Japan with a Direct Hit. The second time it was at the shack that was facing the point, it didn't last very long but at least it stopped a few push attempts. The last one held out the longest and won us the game but goddamn was that a stressful round. Only the enemy team commented on how well I did :')
Alternatively you can place mini sentries in the goofiest places where people least expect them since they're expendable

you probably noticed. But when using the wrangler, it turns off the sentry's auto aim and allows you to aim the sentry yourself. It also gives the sentry a shield that blocks 66% of all damage. And as if that wasn't enough, it also gives a firing speed boost.
The minisentry for example, with a wrangler it's effectively as tanky as heavy. And because of the speed boost, it can have dps around 100. On top of that! For some reason the sentry's damage fall off changes from being based on how far the sentry is to being based on the engineer's distance from the enemy. Combine this with the fact that engie has a shotgun, you can become this really annoying fly that the enemy will have huge trouble combatting. Use the shotgun when the enemies get too threatening and other wise snipe them across the map with a tiny gun.

"He is very strong but you have to be smart to play him" is very funny because canonically Engineer is also the smartest of the mercenaries. _By Far._
IIRC he has something like 11 phds and basically invented an imortality device (well actually, his father did, but considering he improved on the design by several iterations and also maintained them I think he deserves the recognition just as much). The closest other mercenary in intelligence to him would be Medic, who, to his credit, also invented the borderline magical healing beam and tricked the devil TWICE, but then again Medic is... well let's say "not sane" is an understatement.

Dispensers sentry’s and teleporters are a major part of playing engie and learning the class too. Dispensers give ammo metal and heals you all at once whilst sentry’s can shoot your enemies but be carful because they can explode if taken enough damage. The sentry’s can be controlled or ‘wrangled’ as we call it with the wrangler, giving it a shield and better damage. Teleporters, well, teleport you. There is a strange mechanic called a tele-frag where you can make someone explode cause you teleport inside of them. The engineer is a great class but a challenging one to master.

Easily the most important Uncle Dane Engie advice you can get as a newcomer is to use and master every Engineer wrench. Especially the Eureka and Jag. The Gunslinger and Southern Hospitality, while strong, are more battle Engie, which is situational, but handy at those times.
Once you get your feet wet, consider learning how to keybind PDA commands. They helped me out so much, and I've been playing for over a decade. Only learned this a few months ago.
Those two tidbits are definitely must know Engie tips.
But like...similar with Soldier, Engie is pretty easy to pick up. You don't _really_ need any complicated know how. Just put down the sentry, watch it do all the work. It's great.

To clear some things up. Source Filmmaker can use game replays of TF2 as input. You can make an entire film of a game replay, as you played it. There is no recreation here. He's using replays of games he's played, inputting them into SFM, and manipulating the gameplay directly. You can do this for free. It's still extremely hard, although the presenter appears to have mastered the tools.

The way the Gunslinger works is that it completely changes your sentry gun. Instead of a standard turret, it deploys a "mini-sentry" that costs less metal to build, rotates and shoots faster than a standard sentry, takes less time to build, and is slightly harder to notice due to its smaller size.
The trade-offs are mainly in its damage and health, as it has less HP and does less damage then even a level 1 sentry. It also can't be upgraded, doesn't drop any metal when destroyed, and it's bullets do less knockback than a regular sentry.

answering questions: (questions that i didnt answered were probably correct, i had no answer too, or chat already explained it.
    1:30
yes, they do, its just a idle sound though, nothing interesting.
    1:57
i mean, he could, but he would probably die anyways without a disguise. anyway, the spy has a secondary weapon called "The Sapper" basically clicking on a sentry shuts it down making it not able to work, unless the engineer hits it 2 times, (or 3 depending on what weapon the engineer is using.)
    2:20
that is a Dispenser, the second building engineer can build, it has 3 levels like the sentry. it provides health, and ammo. each level determines how fast it gives health and ammo.
    2:37
it depends on what class, soldier and demo definitely are the best to destroying sentries, maybe spy if the engineer is distracted with something else. soldier, demo, and spy have weapons to counter engineers buildings.
    3:23
sniper is a good class to also counter engineers as long as the sentry is far away, like on the map lazy purple is playing (Badwater). the sniper can headshot the engineer and then take out the sentry or the other way, but the sniper cannot shoot through the sentry. but if the engineer has the Wrangler (a secondary weapon to be able to control the sentry), then sniper can be countered on the engineers side.
    3:42
both soldier, and demo have weapons to rocket jump, but demo there was sticky jumping to destroy the sentry.
3:52 every class has different heath, scout, engineer, sniper, and spy all have 125 health, (not depending on what weapons their using, just the normal weapons or "stock" weapons.) so yeah, the classes with 125 health can be weak to them if their not careful.
    4:19
back to the Wrangler, you can fire rockets by pressing right click when equipping the Wrangler, so you can do a rocket jump with them, or a bullet jump. basically just jumping, looking up, and shooting yourself while taking knockback, you can go very high with it but it will damage you though. (also lazypurple was using the Rescue Ranger, a weapon for engineer that shoots bolts to repair buildings, it can still damage enemy players though. and, by right clicking on your buildings, it can teleport them to you and pick them up. allowing you to do some very funny spots with them.)
    5:18
uhm, the sentry gun isnt a person.. shooting the top doesn't do anything, it still deals the same damage if you damage it anywhere else.
    5:49
i know this is already answered in the video, but ill put it here anyways. you can only place 4 buildings, (sentry, dispenser, teleporter entrance and exit.) if the engineer dies his buildings will still be intact unless he destroys it himself (using his destruction tool, which is his 5th weapon) or the enemy destroys it. and again its already cleared up in this video but the engineer needs to pick up ammo packs for metal, (the max metal he can have is 200, which can make a level 1 building go to level 2, then 200 again for level 3, in total, engineer would need 2400 metal to upgrade all of his buildings.) it is a exception in mvm where you can place a mini sentry gun that the Gunslinger uses but i don't want you going into the mvm rabbit hole, so ill end it here.
    6:26
that's a hat for engineer, (forgot the name) engineer is Texan so it makes sense for the cowboy hat, he has other cowboy themed cosmetics too.
    6:40
indeed, new engineer players sometimes just place their buildings at their spawn not knowing they can right click their said buildings and move it.
    7:03
engineer is a class where if you don't have your team supporting you, or a pybro, (a subclass using the a weapon called the Homewrecker which deletes sappers in 1 hit and protecting the engineer from spy's or the hard counters for mechanic. read more on the tf2 wiki.) then basically spy's, soldiers, demos, and more can just ambush the engineer with no one around helping him.
    9:31
the mini sentry is kinda like a level 1 sentry, though the mini sentry has 100 health. (it also costs 100 metal to build it)
    9:56
paired with the wrangler the mini sentry can just snipe classes off from a far, which is pretty funny.
    11:34
the Frontier Justice is a shotgun that has 3 bullets instead of 6 but can get critical hits depending on how much kills you get on your sentry when destroyed, so if you have 1 kill on your sentry and you or a enemy destroys it, it will double the amount to then give you 2. so 2 kills = 4 crits, read more on the wiki.
    12:26
paired with a medic, or a pocket medic, (a medic that just heals you and no one else) the engineer can be a very scary class.
    13:03
uncle dane is another content creator that mains engineer, (maining a class basically means that you always play that one class to the point you've gotten good with them.) if you check out the video uncle dane made about fighting all classes as engineer, that would be great! highly suggest it.

    @mercenarydelta7351 ปีที่แล้ว

Engineer has many weapons at his disposal that have different stats and affect how you play. For example:
    Primaries:
    > Frontier Justice: Gain a guaranteed Crit with every player killed with the sentry gun. Crits deal 3x the normal damage of the weapon.
    > Widowmaker: Uses metal for ammo, which is why he wouldn't need to reload it. However, you can GAIN metal for every shot that HITS. Not kill, HIT.
    > Rescue Ranger: One of his primaries that fires a projectile instead of pellets. These projectiles can (at the cost of metal) heal sentry guns from a distance if shot at them. For a 100 metal, Engineer can pick up any building from any distance (as long as he has a clear line of sight to it) to be redeployed instantly.
    Secondaries:
    > Wrangler: Allows you to manually control your sentry gun. It also places a shield around it when the weapon is out that gives a damage resistance to explosives. However, the sentry gun is disabled for 3 seconds when switching away from it.
    Melees:
    > Gunslinger: Effectively turns you into Combat Engineer by replacing the sentry gun with a mini-sentry. A Mini-Sentry deals less damage, has less health and only has one level (as opposed to the sentry gun's three levels) but has an incredibly faster fire rate and are cheaper to build than regular sentries.
    > Eureka Effect: Weapon-taunting with it out will teleport you to your Teleporter Entrance when the taunt ends. Useful for getting out of sticky situations.

    @Ctl2468 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Okay i dont here to be a critic im here for youre question number 1 at 3:03 yes it takes a lot of work to protect the sentry gun because keeping it alive can help your team like your team is dead only you and your sentry gun at least there is still a reliable source of damage in defending something .
Number 2 at 4:23 yes you can as long you have the wrangler the wrangler is an unlockable achivement weapon which means its is unlockable true random drops or by finishing an achivement heres how it works you get all out control to your sentry so if you are holding the wrangler and pointung it at any direction the sentry gun will follow where you paointing at for right click it shoouts bullets for left click it can shoot rockets (warning you can only shoot rockets when you upgrade your sentry gun to level 3 so below lv 3 you cant shoot rockets and the wrangler has a 66% damage ristance but it has a down side you if you have to repair your sentry gun you have to consume more metal than normal after you change weapons like you switch to your primary your sentry gun is deactivated for 3 seconds making it involnorable to anything).
Number 3 5:05 yes its damn stressful for more question GO BACK TO NUMBER 1!
Number 4 5:24 no it does not take more damage when your shooting at the top or its rockets.
Number 5#1 5:55 no its not unlimited you need at least 130 metal to build a sentry gun and engineer has a max metal capacity of 200
Number 5#2 5:55 no there are 1 type of sentry gun and it depends on what melee weapon youre using for example you use every single weapon exept for the gunslinger it would make a normal sentry gun but for the gunslinger intstead of a normal sentry it makes a mini sentry it cannot be upgraded
Number 6 (my hands are stating to hurt) 7:07 to 7:12 for more questions on number 6 GO BACK TO NUMBER 1
Number 7 7:50 no its not a conga its not any taunt hes just saying that his intire team ia probally lagging
Number 8 8:15 spy is the biggest enemy for an engineer he has a sapper which can destroy buildings from the engineer and spy can disguise as the your team so sentry guns cant tell if its an enemy or not
Number 9 8:50 his being healed by the medic plssss pay attention to his health and the details because it explains everything.
Number 10 9:10 or 9:19 meh i dont know where im at yes he can heal his sentry but it consumes metal
Number 11 9:36 yeas and no mini sentry deals low damage but fires much faster and has 100 health and it takes 100 metal to build a mini sentry since the engineer has a max metal of 200 you can replace your mini sentry when it gets destroyed and no you cant make 2 mini sentry
Number 12 10:19 nooooo there is only one engineer there is no more types of engineer only unlocks of your weapons wich can create a subclass and no there is no more type of engineer and since the unlocks can also change your playstyle
Number 13 11:13 no its not a versoin of engineer (aghhh this is taking too long fine we now gonna call him engi)
Ok there is no other version of engi his taljing about the battleegnineer is a playstyle battle engineer playstle usually plays more aggresive than being a defens and support class but no battle engi playstle are mor aggresive
Number 14 11:33 or 11:13 ok yes he has various of different shotguns and each one has a goodstats and bad stats in order to keed the weapon balanced
Number 15 12:26 yes engi can be powerfull on different ocasion and how u use him properly.
Number 16 13:00 uncle dane is a proffesoinal engi (great more like my mind is lozin some iq) go to his youtube channel he has tutorials and gameplay as engi and he mains engi
No not a variation of engi he mains engi or he plays engi alot or all the time

    To clarify on the sentry
For every wrench except gunslinger, engie has an upgradeable sentry
Level 1 - 150hp and it has a single barrel to fire from.
Level 2 - 180hp and it becomes a set of two miniguns
Level 3 - 216hp and it gains a quad barreled rocket launcher
All sentries have a range they can auto target enemies. It will prioritize the closest enemy.
Building any engie building costs metal. Upgrading costs more.
Sentry - 130 metal, 200 per upgrade level
    Dispenser - 100 metal, 200 per upgrade
Teleporter - 50 Metal per end, 100 total, 200 per upgrade.
Engie has a max pool of 200 metal. He collects metal from ammo packs

Engineer's mechanics in comparison to Torbjorn, they just feel more beefed up. Torb's turret feels like a pellet gun while a level 3 sentry gun feels like a dang kill-collector. Oh and also the supportive buildings are super useful. Where Symettra has to have LoS with the exit, and the teleporters can only last a short time, Engineer's teleporters can go anywhere, and they last for as long as they stay alive. The dispenser is the most useful for the team, giving heals, metal for engineers, and infinite ammo for other classes. It's just Torbjorn with extra steps and it's FUN.

Engineer is a utility role in game but he's got great combat potential based on the sheer fact he has a shotgun, and if he plays in range of his sentry gun he's always got backup. Sentry guns auto lock onto targets within a certain range, but there is an item called "The Wrangler" that lets you take manual control to fire at an indefinite range, but damage fall off does occur. It also gives your gun a large shield buffing its health to make it harder to kill. Ranged classes are the enemies of sentry guns. A soldier with the Direct Hit can kill a sentry in two shots, and demo is excellent at taking them out with his burst damage and ability to blind fire corners where sentry guns are typically obscured. Sniper is not very effective as he needs one fully charged shot and then a follow up shot to kill the sentry, and by that time the engineer can usually repair it back up if he's hitting it with his wrench.
Spy is a natural predator for engineers. He thrives on novice engineers being too focused on repairing and upgrading their buildings to see him coming, and his sapper disables all Engineer's buildings while slowly ticking down their health. Sentry guns are devastating defenses, but a little team coordination can easily deal with them, thus an Engie being able to rely on their team to help them maintain their position is always grand, especially when it's a Pyro. Pyro is the natural enemy of Spy, and if the Pyro hangs near the engineer's dispenser and gun he will almost always have max ammo to burn and hunt down those pesky spies. Not to mention airblast helping to turn back explosives before they can even damage friendly buildings. Pyro also has a couple of items that can remove Spy sappers from buildings in case the unfortunate should happen and the Engineer gets killed before they can remove the sappers themselves. These elusive, but helpful Pyros are referred to as "Pybro's" in game, so count yourself lucky if you should find one.

9:36 It has no 2 and 3 levels, it's basically level 1 sentry.

Engineers is extremely strong when he has his team. In OW terms, when he's alone, he's basically symmetra, but when he's with his team, he becomes orisa. His sentry and other buildings is like a wall that you have to destroy to move on. It's so much harder to destroy that wall when you have a lot of people to protect the wall. Hell, a game of 12 engineers is almost impossible to push through.

So sniper can counter engineer, but he was keeping the sniper busy with his wrangler- a secondary that lets you manually aim the sentry. At that range it won't kill the sniper, but it'll hurt him and mess with his aim.
My wrangler is nicknamed "sniper no sniping"

Torbion uses his sentry as extra dmg and as distraction while Stock engis Sentry does the main dmg mostly. Engineer is when he deffenses a weaker class not a attack based class but he has a shotgun and tools to deffend him self. Stock engi is able to upgrade his sentry 2 times wich costs 200 metal each . Lvl 1 sentry shoots slow and is weak Lvl 2 sentry has 2 miniguns and is a bit stronger Lvl 3 adds rockets and has more base health than a heavy. The gunslinger makes you only able to place a mini sentry wich let's him play like torbion
