Madam , I request you to please analyse and play Mr Ilayaraja's music in the movie Nenjathai Killathey(released in the 80's). In particular, two compositions"Uravenum pudhiya vaanam " and "Ther thendraley". I personally feel his unsurpassed musical genius for brilliantly integrating Western classical with Carnatic classical, and somehow kindling deep human emotions, (irrespective of whether u r a listener with a Western ear or an Indian ear) is exceptionally showcased here . His speciality touches, notes , chord placements all harmonize and fall together amazingly well. With your extraordinary talent and musical understanding, I think both u and all of us will enjoy and benefit greatly from the outcome. Thank you!
I have seen few of your videos and Nice work! Here is my 2 cents - To understand Raja’s composition one should know the basics of how modulation, modes, imitation, ornamentation works and Techniques like Fuge. Notable use of counterpoint were major influence of Bach. More the closer we looks we gain more understanding. Each of his signature song are symphony grade quality with utter most technical disciple followed. Lastly I recommend you to have closer look to his baseline. You will be amazed see how unique they were constructed. One of the finest composer of our time!
Love the way you interpret and appreciate Ilayaraja compositions. FYI this song was composed for a romantic scenario involving two "Tamil street folk musicians" with an innocent man explaining to his blind lover what the world around actually looks like. Back in the day, such scores for "street folk musicians" were very stereotypical and all composers either oversimplified it or overcomplicated it with too many modern elements. Ilayaraja always being Ilayaraja made this masterpiece that too for a movie of considerably low production value. AND THEN to think of it from the perspective you have just presented has elevated my respect for this song way more than it used to be. The least I could was to hit subscribe!
refreshingly analytical and insightful , and so much humility. May god bless you. Liked your videos. I begin to understand and appreciate western classical a bit better. Great on your part to understanding and identifying ragas. May be some day u will upload a Carnatic classic rendition and we shall all cheer.
