People always think that releasing HD remastered is a waste of time if they already played the game, but they are looking at it the wrong way. HD are a perfect opportunity for a new generation of gamers to experience such classics, and such classics should never disappear.
+Hyan36 Chances are, people who already play the game will buy the HD remastered version just for nostalgic purpose, especially appealing to those who no longer owns the PS2 .
The boosters are amazing too. Basically nullify the endgame grind. I love FF but hate grinding so this finally encouraged me to give the optional content a go. Still had to grind captures and blitzball but oh well at least I didn't have to sphere grid grind manually. The only problem with the HD version imo are Tidus and Yuna's faces, and a skip cutscene option wouldn't have hurt
Agreeing with every point you say for the ps2. So happy that I still have a working ps2 to play ffx on, the original will always take my heart :) Really happy that you uploaded this! However final fantasy x, no matter what console has the best plot hands down hehe ! :)
I think it was great they wanted to do an HD remake. What I don't think was great, was the 'time' they put into developing their faces in HD. They look... SO bad. FF10 was supposed to be ground-breaking in showing emotions through normal scenes and voiceovers. The HD Remake ruined the emotion part, imo. I wish they would have spent more time fixing that.
this is literally the sole reason i refuse to play the remasters - its unfortunate because i dont have a ps2 and so its been a huge struggle trying to find an original copy of the ps2 version as well as a ps2 (i've basically resigned to having to emulate at this point)
The main problem with the PS3 HD release dealing with Tidus's character model was pretty much the eyes. They looked sooo damn off. The eye lids were so pronounced to the point of looking like he had some fucked up eyes. In the PS4 version they lessened this and made it look much much better.
And now it's available on Steam, too! If you have a powerful enough computer, it's apparently very good-looking (PS4-level) and has the ability to adjust the game speed and encounter rate. There are other cheats too but not the kind I would want to use. It's about 35GB though, which can be an issue, but that also gives you the option to mod the game to use Japanese voices. I wonder if there'll be any other mods on the horizon...
+Theaggyyu The list is endless... I personally want to try it on my laptop, the minimum required specs are very entry level so having a HD remaster copy you can play almost anywhere would be nice. Emulation has always been very reliable and useful for this game so for people like me the steam version isn't much of a revelation unless like I said the port allows weak systems to play it at a decent level too. I would imagine mods would appear, isn't there downsampling tech already available in GPUs that could render the remaster at 4k and shrink it back down? It'll likely be the best looking FFX we're going to get unless they do a full on remake in 2040...
dansg08 I've also heard there's been demand for a mod of the Steam release which restores the PS2 character faces. I'd be interested to see that. I also want to try FFX-2, since it'll have the creature creator in this version, but also have the benefits of being on the PC like speedup!
Dan, how did u get these images with moving backgrounds? I.e tidus hugging yuna and moving sky or seymour and group looking down at falling yuna and waterfalls from building are moving
I want to add also for PS2 for PAL version, the PAL version oddly does have the Dark Aeons and Penance (for some reasons PAL directly get the International version) but due to a non optimize 50Hz version the game is a little slower than NTSC version and has black stripes.
I still have FFX on the PS2, infact I still got a PS2 AND PS3. I got the PS4 version over the PS3 version. I didn't want to play anymore console RPG's because they take too long to finish, but when I heard you can switch between the Original and Remastered music, I decided to get a PS4 already for this version. Also FFX doesn't look good in Widescreen hack when it comes to FMV's and prerendered backgrounds.
I've played and beat FFX half a dozen times. I think I'm good on cutscenes. I just want the option, that's all. I really like the first CGI scene, still awesome to this day.
felman87 i think it's borderline disrespectful to not have the ability to skip cutscenes in the 3rd different version of the remaster. You take the time to offer a switchable ost but not a single button to allow skipping. Terrible. Emulate and disable framelimiting ftw! :P
I gotta say, I really don't care how the character models look in most games, but for me, I just hate the new models for Yuna and Tidus, Yuna looks weird and Tidus looks ugly, but apart from that, I prefer the Hd version over the original
PC version is the best in my opinion just because you can speed things up with a button press. All the random battles can bore you especially when you do the monster farm. Best version of FFX hands down.
Not many people still have a working PS2? I use mine all the time. I even still have a working PSX, which I occasionally use for the sheer nostalgia value of that original start-up chord. I still have my copy of FFX for the PS2, but I went for a PS4 version, as well. I want the platinum trophies for the games I dearly love.
I have the PS4 version. I have the original ps2 as well. The PS4 version, to me, is well worth it for the 24.00 I paid for it. The visual upgrades are great. The updated soundtrack is pretty cool and I like that I can switch to the original if I want. I like that I can turn off my PS4 and turn it back on and be right where I left off, provided I haven't closed the application. Otherwise, it's a great game, whatever system you decide to play it on, and despite being slightly dated, it holds up pretty well still to this day.
If I had a powerful gaming PC like my co-worker and his roommate, I would easily recommend the PC version. I can imagine a lot of mods I would implemented in this game, like the 4k mod for Yuna.
Another con for Emulator is certain limitbreakers where a controler is needed for various movements with the mushroom stick which isn't possible with a standard keyboard
I still play FFX on my PS2 to this day :) It does have a 4:3 or so called letterbox aspect on modern TV's if that bothers you well then yeah it will bother you. Very brilliant vid, love your work :)
I found another "bug" in the PS4 version. They made a mistake with the song "Calm Before the Storm"; the original version, not the arranged version. If you listen the whole track through (which I doubt many testers ever did, because of the other music bug), you will notice that it actually loops in the wrong place. It's very obvious to someone like me who loves the song, but I think there's something very off at the moment of the "cut". Anyone with a keen ear should notice. Now the song loop is less than half of its original length, and it's a shame. The song has always been: cycle [verse, chorus1, bridge, chorus2], but here, its: verse : cycle [chorus1, bridge]. (Yay, Haskell syntax!) It's possible that someone at SE thought that this was an improvement, but my guess is that it was a mistake. I actually filed SE a bug report :P
I still have my PS2. Got another one at walmart maybe 3 years back believe it or not. My local walmart moved to a bigger part of the same market place it was originally in. I guess there was this PS2 that they still had in storage. I suppose it was in some back room for a while and was forgotten and when the store moved locations, the PS2 surfaced again. It came with a game and I think I paid $60 for it. Lucky me :D
I have the ps2 version, I am planning to get a ps4 for my birthday for mortal kombat, so I might decide to get final fantasy x too. But I am actually currently playing the ps2 version and am watching your platinum trophy guide.
i would like to point out that there is now a version on steam that has a bunch of things that the console versions do not have, such as speed hacks, infinite gil, etc. idk if it was out at the time this video was made, but i will be doing a lets play on it soon ^_^
i have 2 choices, PS2,(original), or on vita. i like both, but personally i always play the original release. so, yes, i go with the original PS2. currently playing x+x-2 on vita. but PS2 is my choice. just to play on the go. love the chan, keep it up!
Some other Flaws to bring up on the North American Ps2's It's missing ability to steal and mug gil, full break, and the Distill skills/weapons, which you really notice early on when you run out of ability spheres. It's missing the Ribbon attribute on armor,. and probably the biggest drawback is the lack of the Expert Sphere grid, which in my opinion, is FAR superior to the original. Still I have a very old copy of FFX from basically when it first came out, and I still play it on occasion. I will be very upset when my PS2 dies. lol Also I can verify that pretty much any PS2 game on a widescreen looks like shit, and I still have a CRT for my older systems because they just look better.
I still have a PS2 and it works perfectly ^.^ Content-wise, are there differences between the HD Remastered and the original PS2 version? Like if I were to use a walkthrough from HD Remastered, would it not apply to the PS2 version (besides the dark aeons)? I only have the PS2 version and I've wanted to replay it again, but it's rare to find video walkthroughs that aren't geared towards the HD Remastered version.
imho, the cons you associated with the PS2 emulation of the game are fairly workable. i mean you can hook up your PC to your TV using HDMI. and running FFX on PCSX2 does not even require a half decent PC. even with just the 5th or 6th Gen. Celerons or Pentiums and an entry-level videocard, like the GTX 750, you can run it at 60fps on 1080p. also, if you have the physical copy of the PS2 game, ripping it for your own personal use won't be much of an ethical issue. for me, emulation is still the best way of enjoying this game.
I bought "FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster"' for €12,50 on Steam's last summer sale. I can only talk about the first FFX since i have not tried FFX-2 yet. It's a very good pc port., and using a keyboard works surprisingly well. The game has build-in support to change your keybindings on both your keyboard and controllers. I just finished the first FFX game a few days ago and i am now doing post-game stuff. There's also build-in cheats, but i would not recommend using those on your first play through, or at all if you want the full experience for a second time like me. I can't wait to start on X-2 never had that on my PS2. I can most definitely recommend this game to anyone, even if you never tried Final Fantasy before. And because it's an official release, you will also help support the developers when you buy it, instead of emulating it which used to be the only option for pc users.
KH-mixerX well it's handheld so it cant really be compared to stable consoles. Almost everyone who has a vita has it as a secondary device anyway so they arent likely to have their only copy of the game on there. This is more for first timers or those returning to the game. I summed it up in one line anyway, if you have a vita and can afford the game, get it.
KH-mixerX i must agree on this. the vita version is fantastic. very short loading screens... but i have it on ps3 as well so.. the vita is best for grinding in between without getting bored though ;)
I still have a working PS2. I'm playing FFX right now then I plan on beating FFX-2 with 100%. I do need to see about cleaning the disk tray. Its having trouble opening and closing. Any suggestions for a good fix that won't break the system?
My PS2 works most of the time, but it occasionally has some times were it'll just freeze up. The hardware is getting old, and I honestly don't know if it's worth trying to replace them... Also my original memory card is busted. Still keep it in a box of little safekeeps, just because of all the fond memories it also stores, and those will never break. I'm so tempted to try and get a PS4 for the remaster, but I have a controller for my PC, so I will most likely wait for the PC release. I do have a PS3, so I suppose I could get it there, but I am a sucker for better graphics, and I want the next time I play it to be the best quality. And I...really don't like the remastered soundtracks for the most part (although a couple of battle themes sound much better, but those are the minority), so that is a major detractor, since the soundtrack for FFX was so stonking great to be blunt. I have a PS3 for Dishonoured and Darksiders 2. And some Assassin's Creed.
FoulheS Thanks, I'll say it again. If you can afford it and have a vita it would be silly NOT to have a copy of FFX on there, there's nothing like playing FFX on the go :) That's why it doesn't compare to the others, as a 2nd copy it's a no brainer. Not sure if it's a good idea to have as a primary copy (especially for a 1st timer), but if you already own a copy and want a second then it's a great idea.
I looked up a pc walkthrough of this game and this video showed up before my walkthrough showed up, this being on page 2 and my video not even be able to find
I'll never play the PS2 version again since the HD remaster blows it out of the water. Only the original soundtrack option I choose since they messed up the soundtrack. I have the HD remaster for both Switch and PS4.
I still own a copy of Final Fantasy X on PlayStation 2. But I couldn’t resist not buying it on PlayStation 3 & 4 simply because it’s both my favourite PS2 game and favourite Final Fantasy game
so its been 2 console jumps id honestly like a full remake if possible honestly like full new character modules even a few minor expansions and in the end make it a bit more obvious that its not time travel
Huge "con" you cannot cross save from the PS3 version to the PS4. I'm about 3 trophies away from platinum and I had to start the game all over from the beginning.
No link, I saved the file on the ps plus online storage and download it on my ps4 and that is a no go. I even tried to save the file on the usb and no go :(
Santiago Prats I would do some research and make sure that this isn't just a mistake you are making. If you find out that it is a general issue with the PS4 release share a link and let us know. It doesn't sound like that should be happening.
Demonlisher9611 Probably places like ebay, try to make sure the copy is clean. New copies are probably harder to find, and relatively expensive. Emulation is a good way forward as well ;)
Is there a particular setup for getting the emulation or just as easy as getting a application, downloading it and then you are good to go because it would be my first time
I'd say PC now, just for the mods. Because if you're going to go for a HD remaster, you may as well go all the way with retexturing and stuff. Although in all seriousness it does iron out any remaining poor textures that were left, and does overall look prettier. You can even make changes like revert the menu styles to the original, give Lulu and Rikku a new outfit (through mods, obviously). I'm not about to get all "PC master race" on you as clearly some titles Square have released on PC have been inferior, and modding capabilities can't be guaranteed (FFXIII... On both counts). But FFX surprised me in how many mods had actually been made for it, as games made/remade more recently generally are more restricted (FFIX, FFXIII again). Oh also the Vita version. I had many long train journeys over the last year, and getting stuck into FFX made it all pass ridiculously quickly.
ffx on PC is great , i can do easy NSG attempts if i want , just cheat up the stats to a certain level ( even if i just cheat 9999 Health so i cant die as fast) doesnt matter its a singleplayer game and i already played it for 298 Hours on Steam ( plus tons of Hours on PS2 ) if its more fun that way ( or maybe removing Ra and Ga spells could be fun too ) why not , and the fact you cant do that as easy on PS4 is just sad imo i might even do a Special File where i just have Tidus Rikku and Yuna enabled all the time ( plus a hypercharged wakka for underwater if needed ) and then i rework the spheregrid , put all in the middle and i have to get enough abilities to survive
+User Name To play it on PC, you currently need an emulator such as PCSX2, which is a can of worms if you've never emulated anything before. However, there are rumours of a Steam release because of a discovered page in SteamDB or something.
😢 I got it for vita coz I was going away for 2 weeks (not holiday) and wanted to play right away. Now I'm regretting it coz the screen is too small to enjoy it as much as I want to. Don't want to buy it again on PS3 just for screen size.
I became a PC gamer in 2007 so I never got any consoles past ps2. I have a black label copy of FFX on ps2 but sadly my ps2 no longer works (gen 1, fat version. kept in poor quality for many years unused tucked in a box through many moves) I was absolutely ecstatic to find FFX on steam after literally years of contemplating buying a ps2 just for FFX. The HD remaster looks amazing but some of the story mods are annoying and I feel like the dialogue changes make the game more empty. The new OST is really bad, it does not do this amazing story justice.
It's on steam now! The steam version is the best because it has all the PS4 stuff PLUS some encounter rate editors and some stuff that lets you mess around.
I play my ps2 on a modern 42" plasma tv, looks fine to me, no difference from playing on an older 4:3 format as far as I can see :) and you can certainly turn off the map in the ps2 version
"The original music is just better" Opinions, dude. FFX was the first game I ever played, and I actually prefer the newer soundtrack. Sure, 2 or 3 songs are slightly worse, but all the others sound better.
I still have my ps2 and the na copy of final fantasy and I still play it to this day. I don't have the money to get a PS3 or 4 but if I had the chance I'd get the PS3 version or PC but I didn't want to get the ps4 version just because of the remastered version of the soundtrack. I listened to a little bit of it and I couldn't do it. If my ps2 finally craps out I'll get the PC version. Far as ik you can't turn off the map on the ps2 version.
pikminbeast if you dont like the ost then the ps3 version is NOT for you. The only way to have the original ost is the ps2, emulated version or PS4 since you can switch between both.
I have a PS2 and it's loading time is awkful but you can feel the exact same feeling as you remembered playing it(if you had it), most of them hasn't the "international" = less hours. Emulation one is awesome, but you need a decent pc and time to configure the controls, is like a supervitamine PS2 version without getting the original sounds,etc... but it looks and kinda runs better with a weird sensation(a pression that makes you want more the original or the emulation goes to shit). Steam version is pretty well, and my fauvorite becouse, it isn't a supervitamine version of the original, instead is an almost full remaster, it only upgraded the game to look even better even today. You can choose if you want the japanese voice acting and change if you want the soundtrack(remaster + original)like the emulator without the weird feeling. PS3/PS4 versions are almost like the PC ones they are dope, 2 even if i couldn't tested it, I would buy a PS Vita only to play FF-X everywhere xD
I hate to say this, but from my point of view the PS4 version is probably the most inferior version, because its the only one I can't play undubed. Luckily they added dual audio for the PC version, but I'm still baffled as to why they didn't do the same for the PS4 (the bd has enough space for both), I'd even settle for it being DLC.
There is one quite big con you missed for the PS2 version, more specifically for people like you and me who are stuck with PAL games. Our version only runs at 50FPS rather than 60, it makes quite a sizeable difference with things like Blitz Ace and Anima's Oblivion (obviously unskippable against Seymour and Dark Anima). As for save editing, it's now pretty easy for the PS3 (and now the Steam) version as someone made a pretty good editor. Not as thorough as FFXED, but still pretty good. For me it's a fight between the Steam version and emulating the International version, as I prefer the arranged OST (well except for the Thunder Plains), but the power of FFXED is unbelievable.
Lulu's character model benefited the most from the upgraded version In the ps2 version her battle model was unfortunately ugly but now i almost can not see the difference between two models one that appears in cutscenes and the one for battles Cheers
Ayufanboy01 I agree, other than Kimahri Lulu looked great. I liked Auron too although he seemed a little different, same with Wakka. The only negative ones for me were Tidus and Yuna.
True. Tidus and Yuna looked more doll like in the remaster. In the PS2 version their faces were actually able to portray emotion but in the remaster they look so stiff it's painfully obvious. Oh and regarding the pros and cons subject PS2 version of FFX PAL Edition was sluggishly sloooow because of the European TV signal output 50Hz. Even though that version had Ribbon Dark Aeons Penance the US version (60Hz) was faster on PS2
PS2, PC or PS4 as those are the only platforms where you have the original soundtrack. You especially, it should have bothered how they ruined Auron's theme for example.
***** I didn't go into specifics, and yes, Auron's theme was one of the worse ones. And yes I mentioned the platforms that have the original sound track over the course of the video.
dansg08 I know you did, I just summoned it up for some less-patient viewers :) His arranged theme just didn't capture the essence of Auron's character, so that really bothered me, especially because there are only two scenes when it plays. Good video by the way, not much to add fter all that! I guess the RNG will be fixed for the PS5 port lol.
Theaggyyu Exactly. While I REALLY DO love the piano collection version of Via Purifico, it just didn't fit there. It couldn't deliver the feeling of hopelessness.
I am playing the PS4 and its not bad, hard to get use to but I really liked the remade music. The vita is my favorite and I honestly don't want to play it on my PS2 ever again xD but my PS2 games will go nicely in my collection...3 versions of the same game, what is wrong with me lol.
Alma Wade i currently have it on ps2, ps3 and vita. I will add the ps4 version to the collection one day, but I'm not spending my money on it yet, I don't have time for a playthrough :)
dansg08 I understand that lol, it honestly just looks sharper with the PS4...maybe cleaner? I don't know, there is such a thing as to clean I guess lol. OH! First thing that came to mind when I saw it was "ah my eyes" to much hd to take in xD
Alma Wade I am sure it's going to be cleaner, but I don't think it's really any kind of leap forward. If it had identical visuals to the PS3 I don't think too many people would be crying that it looks crap. They obviously kept a few visuals tweaks in their pocket for the PS4 version, I am sure the PS3 version could have handled most of the enhancements too :)
dansg08 definitely not a leap forward. The characters are just highlighted more from what I saw, but...what's nice is some visuals like there hands. They separate fingers, looks kinda cool really
Why the hell square does not have relased yet a remaster on PS4/PS4 of Final Fantasy XII? The Ps2 game was AMAZING to see and play, but i always feel that the PS2 harmed the game on the graphics department. A remaster of XII could be AMAZING.
I have a backwards compatable PS3 which are veeeerrrrryy hard to come by. Never selling that shit. That thing is mine to keep forever until it eventually dies because duhh nothing lasts forever, but I'd tell ya. I have PS2 version and the PS4. On PSN, it is pricey, but if you get a preowned version like me. I just got it for 20 dollars and that's half of it's original price on PSN of $40. Now, PS3 and Ps4 are visually similar except on PS3 the square pixels are more noticeable. I prefer PS4 because trophy support and all that but if you dont care about trophies and you just wanna play the game, the PS2 is definitely better to go. Also to mention: Rikku's face looks much better on PS2 than the HD remaster. Don't know how squaresoft can fuck that up but yes they did. Same as Yunas. Yuna's face looks funny and her eyes are squinty and cock-eyed going in 2 different directions in the HD remaster. That's when her eyes are stiff. Now when she moves her pupils in cutscenes, yes its different and looks better but as a static face, she looks funny. Just some things to note if you plan on getting the HD remaster.
Why they removed the DAs and Penance from the NA version is beyond me. What? Did square think they'd be too difficult for a NA gamer lol? Nice way to insult a gamer!
dansg08 Well the colors and textures are significantly better. The colors in particular really make the entire game pop like never before. Besaid is gorgeous on PS4. I really found it to be quite an upgrade. That's just me though.
KH-mixerX If colours are a big factor then that's disappointing, since it sounds to me like it would be quite an easy fix for the PS3. It seems SE did their best to make sure that the PS4 and PS3 had just enough that was different to make fans buy it twice. I'm pretty sure they could have made the PS3 version look almost identical and still have the switchable OST.
dansg08 Well they're a big factor for me. Might not be the same for you. The true worth of the PS4 version for me is simply being able to stream it on twitch. Unfortunately, I'm limited to the PS4's built in streaming capabilities since I do not own a computer or a capture card. So having it on PS4 is wonderful. Also I enjoy being able to party chat with my friends while playing it. It's stuff like that that made it worth the buy for me.
i have ps2 version, and ps2 itself (don't have any better xD, i've don't play much games those days, or only PC or tablet like) anyway it support wide screen. :) yes, and this dark aeons, get the sh@t out of me >_< especially one in thunder plane.

I'm one of the only people I know who still own a PS2 in GREAT condition. I actually still use it pretty frequently too.
Me too!
+Daniel Parry same
xCrazyChiChi I don't use it nearly as much as I used to but mine still works perfectly... The games though...
xCrazyChiChi I do as well. Also have a new unopened one as well that I bought towards the end of PS2 lifespan.
Same I had my ps2 a while before I was born
The Ps4 version is patched so now the rng and bgm looping works as it should. Ps4 is definitely the definitive version
Agreeing with every point you say for the ps2. So happy that I still have a working ps2 to play ffx on, the original will always take my heart :) Really happy that you uploaded this! However final fantasy x, no matter what console has the best plot hands down hehe ! :)
Nice breakdown. Appreciate the time you put into this.
You can turn off the map on the ps2 version.
I think it was great they wanted to do an HD remake. What I don't think was great, was the 'time' they put into developing their faces in HD. They look... SO bad. dansg08 I've also heard there's been demand for a mod of the Steam release which restores the PS2 character faces. I'd be interested to see that.
I also want to try FFX-2, since it'll have the creature creator in this version, but also have the benefits of being on the PC like speedup!
Running FFX HD remaster on my PC using DSR 4k down scaled to 1080p and it looks amazing. Glad I bought the game a forth time!
Dan, how did u get these images with moving backgrounds? I.e tidus hugging yuna and moving sky or seymour and group looking down at falling yuna and waterfalls from building are moving
+Romeo Ocampo check my ffx commentary playlist and look for the cinemagraph video near the end of it.
I want to add also for PS2 for PAL version, the PAL version oddly does have the Dark Aeons and Penance (for some reasons PAL directly get the International version) but due to a non optimize 50Hz version the game is a little slower than NTSC version and has black stripes.
watching this on the day the PS5 is released.....PS2 era is truly legendary.
I hate how there's still no way to skip the cutscenes. It prevents me from wanting to jump in again on the PS4 version.
Yeah especially that long ass yunalesca scene
Every time I mention not being able to skip the FFX cutscenes someone always adds that Yunalesca scene. It's almost like we all hate the same stuff.
felman87 the scene is great...having too watch it everytime you lose against her is not, this one really needs to be skipable.
Agreed, in the PS2 versions Yuna has so much facial expressions that it makes you actually feel for her. Especially in the Yunalesca scene.
Oh and it jas a killer soundtrack. Listen to "a fleeting dream" in its original form and not the remastered version. Magic!
Tamara Merry So true, glad I'm not the only one who thinks that :)
Check in from the future, *you can run FFX PCSX2 on an i3 laptop with NO GPU easily*
Another con for Emulator is certain limitbreakers where a controler is needed for various movements with the mushroom stick which isn't possible with a standard keyboard
+Ben Corbett You could just plug in a controller
I still play FFX on my PS2 to this day :) It does have a 4:3 or so called letterbox aspect on modern TV's if that bothers you well then yeah it will bother you. Very brilliant vid, love your work :)
Do you know if there's any difference between the PS3/Vita version? They seem the same but I wonder.
felman87 They're exactly the same
You may want to update your description to say that the RNG and music issue on the PS4 version have been patched.
+ballroomscott you're kidding right? Read the first line of the description, I updated it last week :)
Where did you get the video wallpapers
I found another "bug" in the PS4 version. They made a mistake with the song "Calm Before the Storm"; the original version, not the arranged version. If you listen the whole track through (which I doubt many testers ever did, because of the other music bug), you will notice that it actually loops in the wrong place. It's very obvious to someone like me who loves the song, but I think there's something very off at the moment of the "cut". Anyone with a keen ear should notice. Now the song loop is less than half of its original length, and it's a shame.
The song has always been:
cycle [verse, chorus1, bridge, chorus2],
but here, its:
verse : cycle [chorus1, bridge]. (Yay, Haskell syntax!)
It's possible that someone at SE thought that this was an improvement, but my guess is that it was a mistake.
Battosai0529 Good choice, play it on PS2 while you still can, it is going to get harder with time :)
Where were you able to find these movable images. Is there a name for them?
tobalitos23 Yes, they are called Cinemagraphs and I made a collection of them. Check out the video on my channel about Final Fantasy Cinemagraphs.
Thank you so much!!
What's the song playing in the background?
Some other Flaws to bring up on the North American Ps2's It's missing ability to steal and mug gil, full break, and the Distill skills/weapons, which you really notice early on when you run out of ability spheres. It's missing the Ribbon attribute on armor,. and probably the biggest drawback is the lack of the Expert Sphere grid, which in my opinion, is FAR superior to the original.
Still I have a very old copy of FFX from basically when it first came out, and I still play it on occasion. I will be very upset when my PS2 dies. lol
Also I can verify that pretty much any PS2 game on a widescreen looks like shit, and I still have a CRT for my older systems because they just look better.
I would say every platform is the best, it's just the minigame is torturing for every platform ever 😭
I still have a PS2 and it works perfectly ^.^
Content-wise, are there differences between the HD Remastered and the original PS2 version?
JC Carriedo lol I run it on a 5year old €500 laptop with an AMD A4 APU it's not a quarter decent PC
well I play x (ps2) on a wide screen tv (31 inch) and it cuts about half an inch of the left and right of the screen it doesn't bother me much
I bought "FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster"' for €12,50 on Steam's last summer sale.
All versions are great and you can’t go wrong either way but PS2 on a CRT is so nostalgic for me.
What of the Vita version too?
Just a quick question probably being an idiot here but what do you mean when you say manipulate/edit saves?
Mylo T i'm talking about programs that can edit your saves like FFXED. They can save a lot of time if you don't have the time to train/grind.
I'm curious as to why you didn't include the Vita version in your comparison. I found that version to be the best for me. Just because it's portable.
Are the dark aeons available on the original ps2 in witch version?
I have PS2/3/4 and the Vita options but I still play it on the PS2.
Maybe I'll buy the Vita version to play it while traveling.
Good comparison video!
FoulheS Thanks, I'll say it again. If you can afford it and have a vita it would be silly NOT to have a copy of FFX on there, there's nothing like playing FFX on the go :) That's why it doesn't compare to the others, as a 2nd copy it's a no brainer. Not sure if it's a good idea to have as a primary copy (especially for a 1st timer), but if you already own a copy and want a second then it's a great idea.
dansg08 Yeah, thank you again for the great infromation. I own my first copy since 2002! :D I don't even know how many times I've finished it lol
When is the last scene?
I still own a copy of Final Fantasy X on PlayStation 2. But I couldn’t resist not buying it on PlayStation 3 & 4 simply because it’s both my favourite PS2 game and favourite Final Fantasy game
so its been 2 console jumps id honestly like a full remake if possible honestly like full new character modules even a few minor expansions and in the end make it a bit more obvious that its not time travel
Im still playing it on the PS2 might get it on the PS3 someday but i have no idea where it is xD
(y)
Huge "con" you cannot cross save from the PS3 version to the PS4. I'm about 3 trophies away from platinum and I had to start the game all over from the beginning.
Santiago Prats Wait, as in it's broken? It should be working right? Do you have a link to something where it's discussed?
No link, I saved the file on the ps plus online storage and download it on my ps4 and that is a no go. I even tried to save the file on the usb and no go :(
Santiago Prats I would do some research and make sure that this isn't just a mistake you are making. If you find out that it is a general issue with the PS4 release share a link and let us know. It doesn't sound like that should be happening.
I'll do a quick search for a link or a explanation and send you a comment
dansg08 I send you a message on Google+ hangouts you might want to read
I just want to know if there is still any way to find the PAL version on FFX lol for some reason I just want to play that version of the game
Demonlisher9611 Probably places like ebay, try to make sure the copy is clean. New copies are probably harder to find, and relatively expensive. Emulation is a good way forward as well ;)
Is there a particular setup for getting the emulation or just as easy as getting a application, downloading it and then you are good to go because it would be my first time
Demonlisher9611 Google is your friend.
Lol thanks
The PS4 version is now 20 bucks. Check Wal-Mart. I am thinking of picking up another copy for this.
I had many long train journeys over the last year, and getting stuck into FFX made it all pass ridiculously quickly.
ffx on PC is great , i can do easy NSG attempts if i want , just cheat up the stats to a certain level ( even if i just cheat 9999 Health so i cant die as fast)
doesnt matter its a singleplayer game and i already played it for 298 Hours on Steam ( plus tons of Hours on PS2 )
if its more fun that way ( or maybe removing Ra and Ga spells could be fun too ) why not , and the fact you cant do that as easy on PS4 is just sad imo
i might even do a Special File where i just have Tidus Rikku and Yuna enabled all the time ( plus a hypercharged wakka for underwater if needed )
and then i rework the spheregrid , put all in the middle and i have to get enough abilities to survive
im hella late but how do u get the pc version?
Dark Aeon? Hmm sounds interesting. I'm not sure if I want to play FFX all over again though. That's a lot of hours that I have to put into.
Matt the dark aeons are fun the first time, well worth the hours I think :)
so emulator is the best, (except the part where you're not supporting the producer)
I get horrible input lag on the PS4 version
I play my ps2 on a modern 42" plasma tv, looks fine to me, no difference from playing on an older 4:3 format as far as I can see :) and you can certainly turn off the map in the ps2 version
PS2 runs great on a widescreen. Especially if you are running composite RGB and not just av or worse: coax.
Is it possible to download FFX online at school for free?
@Punx is idol and noise nobody does that. It is illegal
Time to remake this video. The Nintendo Switch/Xbox versions came out in 2019
Was the fixed rng fixed lol
Just had a look and yeah it's been fixed
"The original music is just better" Opinions, dude. FFX was the first game I ever played, and I actually prefer the newer soundtrack. Sure, 2 or 3 songs are slightly worse, but all the others sound better.
PS4 It has the battle quotes kept apart from special and skill. It is actually fun
pc likes to crash for me alot. i have to redo lady yunalesca because the game crashed
How can you play the ps3/vita version undub? Did I just miss that one?
There is one quite big con you missed for the PS2 version, more specifically for people like you and me who are stuck with PAL games. Our version only runs at 50FPS rather than 60, it makes quite a sizeable difference with things like Blitz Ace and Anima's Oblivion (obviously unskippable against Seymour and Dark Anima).
As for save editing, it's now pretty easy for the PS3 (and now the Steam) version as someone made a pretty good editor. Not as thorough as FFXED, but still pretty good.
For me it's a fight between the Steam version and emulating the International version, as I prefer the arranged OST (well except for the Thunder Plains), but the power of FFXED is unbelievable.
you forgot vita?!?
Kinda makes me want to buy PS4 and FFX for it.
Lulu's character model benefited the most from the upgraded version
In the ps2 version her battle model was unfortunately ugly but now i almost can not see the difference between two models one that appears in cutscenes and the one for battles
Cheers
Ayufanboy01 I agree, other than Kimahri Lulu looked great. I liked Auron too although he seemed a little different, same with Wakka. The only negative ones for me were Tidus and Yuna.
True. Tidus and Yuna looked more doll like in the remaster. In the PS2 version their faces were actually able to portray emotion but in the remaster they look so stiff it's painfully obvious.
Oh and regarding the pros and cons subject PS2 version of FFX PAL Edition was sluggishly sloooow because of the European TV signal output 50Hz. Even though that version had Ribbon Dark Aeons Penance the US version (60Hz) was faster on PS2
when you said that the PS3 version was cheap you weren't kidding. I got it for for 20 dollars plus a controller at a Walmart.
Zero Reborn That's a great deal :)
The version i downloaded was GREAT lol :) FFX+ FFX2
Torrents FTW
It’s also on Vita and as of 2019 it’s on switch
PS2, PC or PS4 as those are the only platforms where you have the original soundtrack.
You especially, it should have bothered how they ruined Auron's theme for example.
***** I didn't go into specifics, and yes, Auron's theme was one of the worse ones. And yes I mentioned the platforms that have the original sound track over the course of the video.
dansg08
I know you did, I just summoned it up for some less-patient viewers :)
His arranged theme just didn't capture the essence of Auron's character, so that really bothered me, especially because there are only two scenes when it plays.
Good video by the way, not much to add fter all that!
I guess the RNG will be fixed for the PS5 port lol.
Via Purifico/Path of Repentance wasn't very good either. I couldn't even begin to make out the original melody I loved so much :(
Theaggyyu
Exactly. While I REALLY DO love the piano collection version of Via Purifico, it just didn't fit there.
It couldn't deliver the feeling of hopelessness.
***** If there is ever gonna be a PS4 lol Sony is not planning to continue with the Playstation in the future.
You have a really beautiful voice :3 just like Benedict Cumberbatch (:
PS Vita ?
+ProdigyDesigns well your a "pieace" of shit that dosent know what you are talking about xii was truly a masterpiece as was x
Also to mention:
Rikku's face looks much better on PS2 than the HD remaster.
I played it on my vita actually
PC, PS2, PS4, PS3.
The best plataform to play this game is the PS VITA!
i have like a perfect condition PS2 it's great but only north american ffx
the rng has broken the ps4 game i so hope it gets patched as it looks better and load times are better
Why they removed the DAs and Penance from the NA version is beyond me. What? Did square think they'd be too difficult for a NA gamer lol? Nice way to insult a gamer!
Well these days you can get a ps4 copy for Less than 20$ even at a Walmart
The PS4 version looks considerably better than the PS3 version in my personal opinion.
KH-mixerX i havent heard many people call it considerably better, but fair play.
dansg08 Well the colors and textures are significantly better.
KH-mixerX it's an interesting perk indeed (not one I'm interested in but perfectly valid), add that to the pros on the PS4 :)
You realize you can emulate using your own games and BIOS, right? It’s only illegal if you steal the game.
OBVIOUSLY pc the best. It's upscaled to HD, but everything is left the same.
i have ps2 version, and ps2 itself (don't have any better xD, i've don't play much games those days, or only PC or tablet like) anyway it support wide screen. :)
yes, and this dark aeons, get the sh@t out of me >_< especially one in thunder plane.
RLY ?? Of course PS2 version is the best !!
