Good to see you back! Personally I like to cover the terrain in lava. It prevents spawns and lights up the area. It also provides a highly visual indication with the lava flowing down from the floating landmass. It's visible from a good distance and indicates to me that I'm nearly home when flying around the nether.
Hey Pix! My wife and I have been patiently awaiting this episode. Glad you were finally able to do it. Thanks!! About the achievements, the player data is stored separately from world data. Note that you will have a tough time in the creating table too, as this world doesn't know that you know how to craft things anymore, so it doesn't show all recipes. You might want to modify your backup to include that info. HTH
A note on spawn-proofing: The despawn chance for mobs outside a radius of 32 blocks from the player does not depend on distance. And since mobs (other than ghasts) won't just randomly walk around when far away from player, they are also unlikely to just walk outside the despawn range of 128 blocks. The farm's spawn rate depends on the ratio of spawnable blocks inside the farm (which for Pix's specific farm is 4x 19x19) to spawnable blocks outside the farm (a *lot* more, usually). Soul sand valley and warped forest are reasonably spawn-proof just from mob density, so buttoning them would be overkill, but you can use a 5x5 grid of lanterns there to prevent ghasts and skeletons from spawning. (The lanterns' collision blocks the ghasts, and their light blocks the skeletons.)
To collect piglin heads, I found an alternative to nametags. Give the piglin gold armor. They always pick it up and put it on. It makes them persistent and they always drop the armor when killed making it reusable.
I'm on episode 4 of this series but wanted to leave a comment on a recent with the hopes of being seen. OG Minecraft player so I've seen a fair few let's play. I always come back to you though, you have such a wonderful balance of tutorial but also a play through. It's nice to learn new things now but still see he same world develop and see you work through designs etc. Also lovely listening fellow Brits. You've got such a soothing voice!
Other alternatives to buttons: 1) Carpets. Not ideal, but colorful. 2) Dirt paths. Yeah, grab a ton of grass with Silktouch, place it in the nether, then shovel it all down into pathways. Not ghast-proof 3) Cobblestone slabs on the Lower half of the top block layer. Easy and cheap with stonecutter, and ghast-proof. 4) Lava. Stated by someone else. Get plenty as you clear some lake space. Bright, flows, no resources.
Using buckets to clear out lava is very good and fast option... if you don't mind wasting them, similar to scaffolding in your preferred method. Iron becomes quite cheap once you have iron farm after all
Personally, I'm a huge fan of miniHUD when spawn proofing around a wither skellie farm. I set a spherical distance around where I will afk with my autoclicker, and then button right to the edge of the sphere. This way I really only get wither skellies spawning in.

I've spawn-proofed nearly everything with iron pressure plates, and am just getting the spawning platform set up. Thank you so much for playing and not going lightly on this section! I once built a Witherskeleton farm and spawnproofed an entire 128x128 box with half slaps. I of course built it in annether waste biome so it took me so long that I lsitened through most of my Warhammer Audiobook (Thousand Sons), which took a dozen hours.
I had to rebuild the whole storage unit after slabbing the whole 128x128 area. Had so many drops it needed. Regular hoppers were too slow. Built ice road pushing storage with sorters
The reason why I'm hesitant is because of mods. They're not all released just yet for 1.20.5, and our server doesn't support that version just yet, which is why I'm hesitant to update.
Can you make a dog-based kill system for the wither skeletons for a full AFK farm? Dropping them on to pointed dripstone could soften them up so that dogs can 1-shot them.
You could, but if you want the wither skulls, its way better to use your looting sword. (Bone and fuel farms are probably easier to make than this set up)
Wouldn’t it be more efficient to put the piglins along the outside edges of the spawning platforms? Each hole you make in the spawning platform reduces the spawn rates.

If you're looking to build an amazing relatively low effort design, check out ianxofour's video. However, if you're more into making a custom build based on your own tinkering, then I wouldn't recommend it. It basically invalidates any other design through sheer simplicity.

I considered it, but mobs move unbearably slow in lava. Once I've spawnproofed more area around the farm, it'll be fast enough that new spawns will arrive to push the stuck skeletons down soon enough. Lava will slow the farm down at that point!
@@mercury6901 Yeah , they can. Nether mobs like wither skeletons, zombie pigmen, blaze , ghasts can survive in lava. The can flow in flowing lava too.(like overworld mobs do in water)
In my world, i think the spawnproofing is worth it if you build one of the best design because the spawnproofing take between 10h and 15h :this is the most time consuming task. Therefore i build the désign by stromme which produce 1800 skull per hour and too many coalition and bonnes. This désign is also awsome for xp, if you are looking for à fast design, this one is for you
i'm sorry but the whole wolf armor and new wolf breeds are in my opinion just completely useless and didn't warrant a whole update dedicated to just that.
I'm sorry but maybe you should read the 1.20.5 release article? Then come back and respond with how much of it is dedicated to the armadillo/wolf features. A minor update was going to happen wether they were in there or not. Also what does it matter to you when they come if you don't care about them anyway?

Fun fact I recently discovered moving piglins into an auto bartering set up, you can pick up a mob in a boat with a minecart.

There are filters that hold 1 item and can be placed next to each other with overflow protection in an ABAB configuration.
