Personally I’ve found that the warm gloss you get from a carnauba based wax just can’t be beat with synthetic polymers or ceramics… granted, it’s slower and harder to apply, less durable and doesn’t last as long…. But I prefer the gloss on any colored car tbh. 🤔

I'm an older guy that uses ceramic/graphene spray sealants on our cars. I've wasted many hours over the previous years applying waxes to my cars. I wish these new products had existed when I was younger.

It is really amazing. Even the most basic entry level ceramic products out perform most, if not all traditional waxes.

How do you waste time with wax? A bottle of waterless wash & wax spray costs 10$ and it takes max 5 mins to apply to my whole SUV. I offroad so I scratch with thick branches and bushes every weekend but the wax is good when applied 1 or 2 times a year. Would a ceramic coating last multiple years without re-application?

@@proxyicarcus A ceramic coating offers so much more protection than a wax could ever hope to do--it's not even close. And what you're applying is not a real wax, which would be applied by hand.

I'm not knocking ceramic coatings, but if you're a car enthusiast who loves that freshly waxed glow from a high quality carnauba wax, you simply cannot replicate that with a ceramic coating. There's something really satisfying about waxing, the smell, the shine and the warmth of the gloss that some people find really enjoyable. And months down the road, a fresh carnauba or pasted wax just looks better than a ceramic car in my opinion. That being said, ceramic is certainly more protective then wax, so that is a consideration.
They're different products for different people and cars. Some people just want/need the best paint protection, and that obviously goes to a ceramic coating. Some want longevity and lower maintenance, again, that goes to ceramic. For daily drivers, this makes more sense. But for that super glossy warm glow and engagement of a vehicle that maybe isn't your daily driver, a wax is likely the way to go.

Absolutely, ceramic isn't right for everyone!

Plus, wax doesn't spiderweb your paint when it shatters. If you don't keep cars more than 3 years go for it. Go ask a concourse show car owner if they use ceramic.

Could you do a comparison on a panel that has wax on one side and a ceramic coating on the other. Test for durability, protection against stuff like bird droppings and hydrophobic properties.
I have no doubt that ceramic coatings are easier to apply and have more durability than wax but wax is more forgiving and the temporary nature lets me correct any mistakes.
I don’t have covered, dust free parking nor the tools to do the prep work needed for a ceramic coating. My only option is to get it done professionally which costs a LOT more than me applying a coat of wax myself.
The durability of the ceramic coating that I got done didn’t seem worth the cost. They told me itd last only a few washes and I should only dust the car instead.
My view now is that a layer of relatively cheap wax that I can always reapply is less stressful than a ‘protection’ coat that I have to delicately care for

Let me know when your ceramic coating “wears” out and it is time to take it off (sanded off) to apply a new coat. Let me know how much it costs and how long it takes for the prep? You will erode your clear coat if you intend to keep your car a long time. Wax as a base coat and the New Wax and Sealant “Spray Ons” during maintenance washes will last a long time and go a long way.

Wax is for that guy that buys a car and drives it twice a month. For guys spending more time waxing than driving at least they're spending time with their car. If you are an enthusiast who cares for their car, waxing every few months for hours when you can apply a ceramic topper on your ceramic coating that will last for 12+ months protecting it is just smart. Now if you want to maintain your car you can spend that time doing other things. You maybe have time now to remove your tires and ceramic coat the back of the rims.

It's definitely true. Waxing has its place and for those who enjoy it they definitely should keep doing that. For those who want the easiest method to take care of their vehicle but don't make a hobby out of it, the ceramics often make more sense.

You need to be an painter to understand wax because wax is nothing more than a cleaner, nothing else, people kill me when they say that’s baby has a good coat of wax, look at it bead, has no wax on it, you buffed it off, as you where rubbing it on you where taking off oxidation, removing dead paint actually or clear and that paint just like a new painted car will bead water, the wax has cleaners in it for doing that, one wax might clean it easier but basically doing the same thing

Hold on, waterless wash & wax is a 1 step wash and wax in 1 step (spray on and wipe off, takes 5 mins to do my whole SUV). So how is this easier to apply if both are spray applied, and you still need to wash the car first? LOL. And you still need to re-apply every time you drive through the brush when offroading and get fresh scratches. Waterless wash & wax costs 10$ and if you don't offroad you only need to apply once or max twice a year.

The wax shine, everyone knows how to use it, the process, it all adds up to an involvement and experience friends can talk about.
Ceramic, do once and forget. There is no experience in that. Plus, just try to get it off, or pay someone for that. Yeah.
Wax on, wax off. Plus its basically natural and enviro friendly. Its mostly just wax.
