I’m mostly a rock, hard rock, metal, guy but I jammed this album all thru my youth. What an angelic voice with heart wrenching lyrics. God bless you Sarah! Edit: thanks for all the awesome replies! So many Sarah McLachlan fans out there even tho she hasn’t had a radio hit for decades. Amazing!
In my opinion, the mark of a great song is that it's a song that you never get sick of, no matter how many times you hear it. For me, this is one of those songs. Thank you for sharing this.
My dad snuck me into her concert at Fox Theater in Boulder Colorado when I was 13 yrs old. Life changing experience. Decades later still listening to her transformative music.
Saw concerts in the Fox theater,in Saint Louis, Supertramp, you probably haven't heard of them but I'm guessing your dad has , saw them the year Crime of the Century came out, very good.
@@banjammy7367 I live in STL and saw her live at Fox in 2014 I think it was Took my husband, he doesn't know her music but I had the time of my life and cried my ass off. He patiently held me while I let her music heal me Salud
I mean, wow - just ... WOW. Not only does she hold that last note for ~17 seconds, she begins it by singing several words, THEN holds the note AND still has enough left to modulate her voice UP at the end of it. Extraordinary voice/breath control ... I'd have passed out around the 5sec mark! (btw, at ~4.21, you can quickly see her draw-in that breath). Such a beautiful song, proving that sometimes life's most daunting challenges can be surmounted and then manifest in impactful expressions of art, in its many forms.
Great performance, and great band. Well filmed, and captures the emotion of the audience. Her going into the intro on piano and then walking out onto the stage " took my breath away ". Then she totally nails you and wipes your tears away. She's a magical performer and beauty. Bravo.
Yes. And for most of the song it's actually a very simple part. Kudos to the bass player for recognizing that was all it needed when many others would be tempted to overplay. He held it down beautifully.
Ladies, Gentlemen, The Beautiful, Brave, Powerful, Sexy, Fearless, and Timeless, Lady Sarah Mclachlan. Thank you so much for letting your music be part of our lives.
Not enough attention is given to Kathryn Rose backup vocals at the end when Sarah holds that long vocal 4:22. It perfectly compliments Sarah's vocal at that point & is just as good if not better. Made that portion of the song powerful & gave me goosebumps.
You know, I came here to say "I like hard rock and metal and this isn't really my scene but this is a GREAT song". And, funny enough, there's already a bunch of comments saying pretty much the same thing. This song may not be "heavy metal" by definition but it has the energy and the attitude. Not to mention an absolutely killer performance.
If Sarah had been just a "One Hit Wonder" this would have been the only song I'd need to hear and call her "Legendary". My headphones exploded the first time I heard its debut as if it were yesterday. She has to be inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame someday!
God, I miss her presence: I play her music on my piano and try desperately to sing her stuff. I've gone from being a first Soprano to this Mezzo-muck after 30 plus years. Learning her music really helped me through adulty-emo guy. Shredding her piano stuff, though. Yeah. I will ALWAYS love Sarah 😊
I remember browsing new music CDs at my local Warehouse music shop, No WiFi back then, this song started playing thru the speakers. By compulsion something "possessed me" to ask the girl clerk "who was this singing?" -IMMEDIATELY bought the CD- Haven''t stopped listening to McLachlan since.
@driverjamescopeland Maybe this will help. Search "Possession Sarah McLachlan Uwe Vandrei" He literally sued her for using his letters as inspiration for the song before he offed himself.
I've said this many times in the past. There are singers and then there is Sarah. I'm an older guy and her music caught my attention around '92-'93. She can captivate your soul. Not too shabby for a girl from Nova Scotia....
When someone had me do a favorite album challenge, this popped in as one of my top 5 or 10 of all time. I’m a child of 70’s rock, but this to me is the best album of the 90’s. Her live version of this song is unbelievable. After hearing some other songs she has done live, see has a commanding stage presence and her songs take on a greater sound.
Crazy how her music flows through the ears of many ages and types. I’ve been listening to her since I was in high school. Just turned 30 and reminiscing. Her music will never die. :)
30 damn seconds!!! I've been training myself with that particular part and I have gotten from a 16 count to 26. But yeah, it is an insane holding time on a note that I've ever heard!
Yes, they were lines in a letter an obsessed stalker wrote her. She put it into an incredible song. After the song was released, the guy committed suicide.

Incredible performance! A real shame the video editor cut this to a million pieces, unable to hold a shot for more than a 10th/sec. Editor created a visual migraine.
Everything is so perfect about this concert; great singer and songwriter, awesome band, amazing backing vocals, the matching costumes & decor, lighting & visuals. As a professional pop musician myself, I can only say: top notch, first class!
It saddens me to admit I have never had the pleasure of seeing Sarah perform live but I am a long time fan. She's awesome. This video is awesome! Love it!

I had the wonderful experience of sitting at a "community table" at a restaurant in Vancouver called the Noodle House (on 4th, not sure if it's still there but the Peanut Soup was killer!) many years ago with a very pregnant Sarah McLachlan. Single diners sat there when the restaurant was busy, which was always. She sat across from me and we both had the Peanut soup. We had a very nice and very normal conversation as I'm not the type to gush. But I grabbed her check when it came and told her I was buying her lunch. "What for?" she asked. "So I can tell the story for the rest of my life how I bought Sarah McLachlan's lunch!" She laughed and laughed! She is a delightful woman. And VERY lovely when laughing! I had a crush on her before that lunch, but was in love after!! Ahh, never did see her again except on stage.
I love your story. The only time I have seen Sarah live was as an audience member at the Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis. Maybe '90 or '91. She wore a head scarf and danced a lot during her show. She flashed her dazzling smile to the adoring crowd many times. I am certain many men (and women for all I know; whatever, God bless) fell in love that night.
This is what music is about ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Is there any doubt about this woman's musical ability? Sarah kills it!
There's never been any doubt IMO. She's fabulous !
Voice of an angel ❤
The entire band rocks it, but the guitarists really mirror Sarah's energy and vibe.
SARAH's Touring Band is Spectacular!
That's LUKE who's currently in a WICKED BAND called "Whitehorse" with his Soulmate, it 'Seems'...

She’s the star, but the two guitarists wailing licks back and forth, and the girl singing harmony, seal the deal.

Amazing song writing.....fantastic live show..this artist is the real deal.
If anyone needed proof that Sarah McLachlan is much more than Lillith Faires, this is it. This performance was a banger!

You are SO right; Sarah is underrated as a vocal technician. Maybe she could have been a huge success in opera.
Absolutely agree. Hand how about her band? These guys keep it moving along and the guitar interplay is so sweet.
It's easy for Her! (My majesty) She is a witch! One of the most beautiful ones.
All that in a live performance!!!!! Amazing! Amazing.
Sarah's voice, confidence, looks and energy levels are a thing of beauty. I'll admit: This song gives me goosebumps.

Her breathless euphoria after she holds that last note and just vibes with the crowd is practically palpable - absolutely LOVE
Yep. Actually if you watch her, you can see her panting, gasping for air afterwards. Even Sarah has to breathe at times...lol.
Just saw her last night. She hasn't missed a beat. Was a phenomenal concert.
My favorite Possession performance. Sarah delivers a performance that I'll always remember and cherish.
She is such a great performer.❤
She is just so uniquely talented, I've been a fan since the 90s. No other like Sarah.
Sarah is one of a kind. That is an incontrovertible fact.

How this song came to be is what leaves me with chills. And her voice, so Angelic and stunning. I feel like I am among the Angels when she sings.

Sarah brilliantly delved into the head of her stalker and created a masterpiece! This song still scares me.
Her stalker? When asked what motivated her to write this song, she said it was her own obsession with someone she couldn't have.
