- The Beast Planet demonstrates its might, launching an armada to attack Fire while training its powerful cannons on the Battle Moons. A stray blast threatens to destroy Ice, but Tekla and Lady Zera discover world engines hidden within the planet, which move it out of the path of the blast.
Not gonna lie, the world engine is still one of the most epic ideas I've heard of from any scifi show.
There is a video game called Star Ruler. It is highly janky and prone to being very strange. But one of the things you can do in it is strap engines to your planets to take them on the road. You can also build shield generators and weapons on them, to make them part of your fleet.
Sadly Star Ruler 2 doesn't have such options.
33 year old here leaning into my deep nostalgia feels. This show was tops.

THAT was classic fear, and a true witness to a show of force.

Interesting insight into Bone society. They expect betrayal and backstabbing amongst their leaders, but the warriors expect a good fight and won't just run away like cowards. I imagine the fact that ONLY their side retreated is why they're so pissed about it, especially since some of the Bone Fighters were saved by allied ships. They must really feel like this was a stain on their honor to abandon a fight and their allies.

The warriors of bone are honorable soldiers, the aristocracy are not, the whole point of sit on the throne, rule all of bone thing is the idea that the strongest or most capable leader is the one who can hold the throne, the problem however, is that it turns out the royal family/ most contenders for the throne usually do so through back stabbing and assassination, and aren't as honorable as their people.

They don't seem to mind if their leaders are backstabbing. Just that they don't run from fights like that. Also glad to see someone else commenting on this. XD

yeah, i think as long as the leader holds their collective honor in tact they don't care how they assume the throne, the point i was making is that unfortunately it seems, most of the royal family do not have the same honor or warrior sensibilities as the soldiers of bone.

agreed The Bone warriors were the ones who did most damage to Remora with the bombardment it was Fire and Ice who gave them cover fire if I was a bone warrior I would feel ashamed and dishonored and wouldn't mind a new Emperor.....but not pelvus

The second season never showed in my area.
When I first saw the toy commercial for the Beast Planet, it took no great leap of imagination that it was partly inspired by Unicron, whom I lovingly refer to as 'The Monster Planet' ever since I heard the phrase in an early promo for the very first Transformers animated movie.
I watch this tv series when i was 3rd year high school here in the Philippines and this is the best episode for me esp.the world engine scenes and i love the friendship of tekla and lady zera and planet ice is tekla 2nd home after planet tek destroyed and eaten by beast planet
One thing I love about this series, they never give any answers. Who built the World Engines? Are they implanted or were the planets built around them? Where did the Beast come from, was it the same people who made the World Engines???? It’s been twenty five years and I still want answers dammit!
You love and hate it about the series. On the one hand you can't help but marvel how impressive the Beast was as an unbeatable antagonist, including the mystery surrounding its creation, its function and all the points you mentioned with the connectedness of the planets.
But then there are those days where you just wish that team at Mainframe had a chance to finish their story and make an epic season 3 "which if ReBoot was anything to go by" might have been amazing. They may have provided answers but also more questions, more characters and more story scenarios. As you say dammit!
don't tell me im the nly one who gets goosebumps from this episode especially when the mighty majesty of the engines sparks to life and then you got that music play as the planet dodges the incoming lump of null matter
No man it's so "awe" inspiring that it bring tears to my eyes and i'm 39 years old, THAT'S how good this is!
You are not alone. It's old, but I still think it's one of the most epic moments I've seen in scifi.

Season 3 would have probably gotten into the origins of The Beast and why every planet has those vehicle modes and now I am even sadder.

Dreamt of seeing this again for years! Full turbines coming out of a planet like mountains, atmospheric and gravity protection and a whole planet moving away from its own orbit! If this isn't epic, what is?!
It's the most "awe" inspiring thing I have seen in my 39 years of being alive.

The Beast Planet reminds me of Z'Ha'Dum from Babylon 5. Heck, the Beast Drones remind me of the Shadows.

One can easily see the similarities between the Beast Planet and Unicron.
In fact, the Beast Planet may actually be an offspring of the Monster Planet.
@@williamnorton9547 I immediately saw the parallel when I first saw the series - having seen the 1986 Transformers movie... Unicron literally eats a planet at the start of the film...
There's even a scene lifted from The Fifth Element in there, when the beast planet approaches the fire planet

Good thing those thrusters were not under a populated area!
Speaking of which each of the planets seems to be remarkable under-populated!
The whole solar system is tiny! The official lore is that The Beast Planet is the size of 3 planets, yet at the conclusion of season 1 and the start of season 2, it eclipses the sun, while sitting pretty IN THE SUN'S CORONA. It's amazing the central star has enough mass to initiate and maintain a fusion reaction, without blowing itself apart, and is barely bigger than something 3X the size of a planet.
How the heck it has a goldilocks zone capable of supporting four planets is anyone's guess, even if the planets are all artificial.
I'd like to see a remake of this!
I'd love getting the 3d models and animation redone. But I shudder to think how they'd butcher the show nowadays if they'd make a remake...

@@thetrenderman2155 They threw out the original premise, brought in four or five middle-schoolers, gave them power-ranger esque gear, and sent them into the digital world via matter to energy conversion, and dragged an AI OUT of digital space into reality but made her unable to go back for some unexplained reason, so she's completely clueless on how a human is supposed to act and is little more than a jingoistic clod.
They also butchered Megabyte's design with a hackneyed "upgrade" and the main villain, who ENSLAVED Megabyte is an insane hobo that somehow has access to top of the line computer gear and can't decide just how he wants to threaten the real world with digital attacks, randomly going from trying to initiate nuclear armageddon, to screwing with the price of potato chips.
This is NOTHING compared to what happens when they try for a bit of nostalgia and bring back Mainframe, with Dot, Enzo (the kid not the Renegade), and Bob, and completely butcher the characters. Oh, and don't get started on how they mock the fans of the original by showing The User being a 40-year-old total manchild loser and unsympathetic dweeb.
A dumpster fire is more entertaining. Plus there's talk the director actually scrapped the original script and just slapped the Reboot title on his own pet project instead, throwing in the original Reboot villain Megabyte and hoping nobody noticed.
Can you imagine living in one of the area's those giant thrusters pop out of the ground from? 🤣
There's literally a China movie on Netflix that copies this idea. Remarkable.

The ONE thing that makes little sense with the World Engines on the planets is that they should have been found long before the Beast Planet showed up. Given the level of technology these civilizations have, they should have at least located the "exhausts", or detected the energy signature of the engine's core. Of course this is all for plot-related reasons, but still...
Anyway this changes nothing: this show was utterly badass and deserved to last much longer than it did.
However I do *not* want to see a remake or continuation. Heck the show couldn't be made as it was nowadays...
The female characters are too "sexualized" and Femur is just too much of a chauvinist (even if it's played for laughs and it's obvious his behavior is frowned upon) to even exist in a show made today.
I'd also argue that even Graveheart wouldn't fly...A male lead character who isn't a total idiot and that doesn't defer to the female characters? You just don't see that anymore.
Shadow Raiders is a product of its time and sadly, we won't see its like again for a long time, if ever.
The exhausts could have been very thoroughly hidden under layers of rock, "guarded" by dangerous yet endangered predators
As for the energy signature, it could easily be mistaken for normal planetary energy fluctuations.
It most likely would also have been in a low power standby mode till activated by Techla and Zera.

If you ask me (and you haven't) it's possible that the Beast Planet may an offspring of Unicron, hence its appetite and raw power.

Awesome, but it makes me wonder how they're supposed to withstand the Beast once its weak point is revealed, and the information Tekla stole from Lamprey to cripple that monstrosity, is finally put to good use.
If the alliance proved that much of a threat, it would just blast them out of the cosmos...
there's no season 3 so we will never know how it officially ends

Who knows? She does look like she and her people could have been children of Primus. For the record, the Beast Planet is an obvious nod to the brother of Primus, Unicron.
In fact, the Beast Planet may actually be Unicron in a new vessel.

I love this show but some things don't make sense. Planet Fire is under attack we must save it! oh wait Planet Ice just moved, ok forget Planet Fire and go see Planet Ice... How does a moving planet save Fire right now??

They're going to Planet Ice to try and see how Tekla moved the freaking planet, and then go to Planet Fire with the information to see if they can do the same there.
If the planet Earth has a World Engine, we wouldn't need to worry about asteroids smashing into it and destroying civilization as we know it. The only question is: which areas of the Earth would the thrusters occupy?
