I really wanted to see a third season as well, and they would have continued if the toyline didn't back out. However, thinking about it as an adult now... the way it ended actually ends up being a fitting (and dark) conclusion that leaves a lingering dread. It implies that, despite their temporary "victory," the Beast Planet is unstoppable and is just going to continue devouring world after world. It's a bleak ending.

I remember watching this, Beast Wars, Spiderman etc every saturday morning when I was a kid. Like 2 hours worth of awesome cartoons. Beast Wars was my favorite though, those writers knew how to make interesting characters.
My son, it was 7 years old, and we enjoyed this show, like Reboot and others. Great characters and good message about doing the right thing. There's nothing like that today... mmm!!
I revisit Shadow Raiders every few years. I loved this series so much when I was little. Everytime I watch it, although it has many childish aspects, it becomes more solemn and mature for me as I grasp more in life. Its a grim and dark story with a relentless unbeatable enemy. No respite, no mercy. Only death. Only brotherhood.
The voice acting and dialogue in this show was amazing. Almost theatrical and epic in it's presentation. But then the story itself is a very grandiose narrative, makes sense the voice acting would follow that
I appreciate that Graveheart isn't proud of having to raid for resources, but he acknowledges they're not doing it to be dicks but that they do it survive. No one likes to be raided, but they all have to raid to get what they need to survive since they've never had peace between them.
Been looking for this show for nearly 20 years. I remember watching it as a kid, but I couldn't remember the name of it. I searched and searched on Google to look at old kids shows on Fox Kids and UPN. But turned out I was looking in the wrong places as this was aired on the WB. Didn't remember that. All I could remember was some planet getting destroyed and this girl getting launched into space to spread the word that some evil thing was coming. Now that I've finally found the show I know I wasn't crazy and didn't just invent these memories in my mind. It's like scratching an itch you've had for 20 years. Primate to sapiens and from tribes to egypt and rome, no human born back then grew up with television. games, and those powerful media's... supermarket foods and drinks. school and jobs for parents. no one ever had to go hunting, fishing, cars everywhere. cellphones. I saw shadow raiders some good 20 years ago... and now that i think of it. for the past 20 years science fiction played a pretty cool role in my life!. Playing games like mass effect, alien isolation, dead space, space marine, dawn of war 1-2, It's like i've been watching and playing shadow raiders for a long time xD. Starship troopers, godzilla, alien abduction/ invasion movies, documentaries, games xD. the whole works.
Underappreciated series that far outshone the toyline it was based on. Mainframe made great shows in the 90s. Focusing on story and character Reboot, Beast Wars and Shadow Raiders stood above episodic shows of the time.
I started watching this series a month ago and it's really good. I never saw this show when it originally aired (I only watched ReBoot and Transformers (Beast Wars in particular)). After I started watching this, it quickly became one of my favorite CGI animated shows. I noticed some voice actors from Exosquad, Street Sharks, Skysurfer Strike Force and G.I. Joe Extreme were in this show. Overall, this is such a great series.
The story is still so convincing that it stacks up(IMO) to even the best current shows. I loved this show when I was a kid! I'd forgotten that it gotten cancelled prematurely. Thank you for posting this!
Loved this show, recorded almost every episode on VHS but missed 2 or 3 and I was absolutely gutted, thanks a lot for these. One of the best animated series I've ever watched, shame they didn't continue on with the series.

Lol I came here for the animation from the 90s, but the ad before the video was for a video game, super high def, and it was an ad to say it was a remastered port, so those HD graphics are OLD NOW TOO! Wow. Now back to the early days.

And with a bad guy planet that ate other planets and had ate plenty of planets before the final episode the idea at the time amongst kids was that this would lead into some epic final battles. Everyone i knew watched this on friday morning before school. 7am was worth getting up for with this and Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles before school.

A few thoughts: 1) Still love the opening theme after all these years. 2) Graveheart is one BAMF. Love when he shows up with the massive sonic cannon. 3) She's not in this episode, but I absolutely love Jade. She's voiced by Enuka Okuma, who you can see on Rookie Blue as Tracy Nash.
The series begins and ends with the doomsdays of other worlds. This is, by far, Mainframe's darkest show. It's a shame that they couldn't continue with a third season. I certainly won't forget this gem.
You can't deny the charm of 90's CGI shows. Now they look too much otherworldly... and so back then they looked out of this world. Graphics, design, animation, it looks very alien-like and i love it. Modern CGI shows all look much softer, cleaner and just like Pixar Cartoons. It's sad that modern CGI movies and cartoons don't try to do something gritty and alien-like. Modern kids don't like computer graphics that just scream "Yep, this is CGI", as it ruins their "immersion", but in 90's it was the whole point, it should look very different from normal 2D Animation.
Considering this was probably the pilot for the show, wow, what a first episode, it packed a whallop when I first watched it way back. Some of it seems a little cliche or farfetched but not for a children's show. For a Childrens show, it tackled a lot of adult themes, at least, it felt mature and cool for me as a young boy growing up in the 90s. I loved this show and the toys so goddamn much.

I think the first part to this episode pays homage to the scene in Transformers The Movie. Both monster planets travel between two gigantic stars before consuming their victims and their homeworlds.
That was my exact thoughts xD Planet Rock gave that so much away, especially how they were designed and looked similar to some of the units in brood war, and i thought of War hammer 40k with the factions too

It's surprising how well the CGI in this series has held up.
Man there's so many symbolic scenes in just the first episode . Rock and Ice firing together on their common foe.
So much of this reminds me of Babylon 5: The font used in the credits, the mood and sense of the soundtrack, and overarching theme.

The animation can always be improved upon, just look at EA's games

I think the first part to this episode pays homage to the scene in Transformers The Movie. Both monster planets travel between two gigantic stars before consuming their victims and their homeworlds.

This looks like StarCraft meets Battlefield earth.
That was my exact thoughts xD Planet Rock gave that so much away, especially how they were designed and looked similar to some of the units in brood war, and i thought of War hammer 40k with the factions too
