  • In this video, I talk about how my kidney stent/ureteral stent was removed after my kidney transplant. I take you through what happened during the procedure and how it felt at each stage.
    First, I give details about what exactly is a kidney/ureteral stent and why it's used after a kidney transplant.
    I then show some pictures and videos highlighting what happens during the procedure so you can gain an understanding of what happens on the day.
    Finally, I talk about how it felt when it was removed and if I was in any pain during and after the procedure.
    Hope you enjoy 😊

    Just got my stent pulled out less than an hour ago. Had to come back to this video to drop a comment. I can reassure you guys that are worrying about it, that it’ll be okay. It does hurt and is uncomfortable but it only lasts for about 15-30 seconds. Completely tolerable. If you’ve suffered from kidney stone pain this is no where near as bad! Feels great once your stent is finally out too! Whoever’s reading this, don’t be anxious. You’ll feel so much better as soon as it’s over.

    Just got my stent removed today & to be honest it’s not that painful at all. Mostly uncomfortable but easy to tolerate. What helped me was that they put lidocaine gel inside my uretheral and waited 10 mins before the procedure actually started. The doctor came in and he right away got the scope and sticked it in, I felt nothing until it passed the prostate it was a bit uncomfortable. Once in my bladder already he grabbed the stent and pulled it and didn’t feel nothing whatsoever. 2 out of 10 pain I tell you that.

    Had my stent removed yesterday. I was freaking out the whole weekend thinking it was going to be a bad day in hell for me. After the procedure was done i realized that I grew a few extra strains of grey hair for nothing. The pain is tolerable. About an hour from the stent being removed that's when some type of pain kicked in. Not to scare anyone but i was in horrible pain. Felt like someone was chewing on my kidney. Had to take a pain killer to knock me out . Next day I felt free and pain free. Good luck to anyone else going through this. Dont make a big deal out of it. Worth it

Yes its painful but only where the machine enters and stent is removed, its rather uncomfortable rather than painful. The pain only lasts about 30 seconds and trust me on this. Got mines take out yesterday after having it in for 3 months. After looking up so many videos on it, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be BUT let me tell you, when they grab that stent and pull it out relief was the last thing I felt... mind you, I have HIGH pain tolerance but It burned like heck!! Another reason it hurt me so bad is because I had a stent in me that wasn’t supposed to be there. Was way too big but nonetheless I’m happy to have my life back 😭 I forgot how it felt to be normal.

    So I had mine removed an hour ago (the one withOUT the string).
    If you're reading this, stay calm, it's almost painless. The doctor applied some numbing gel 10 seconds before starting, I really feared the moment they inserted the probe, but believe me, I didn't even feel it. I felt some discomfort when it arrived at the prostate part, but it was not pain, just discomfort.
    They inserted some water in the bladder (they told me, cause I didn't feel anything) then they grabbed it and pulled it out.
    Not gonna lie: when the ring part entered the urethra from inside, touching the prostate, it was a little bit bad, not totally painful, but bad (Same as pulling out a catheter, if you know the feeling).
    It was over as soon as the stent's ring passed that trait.
    The rest of the stent being pulled out was TOTALLY painless, they told me they finished cause I didn't feel anything.
    30 seconds in total.
    After cleaning myself I peed some blood and it stung a little bit, but nothing exceptional.
    I don't feel anything at the kidney for now, I'll update if anything worse happens.
    Just stay calm, it's 100 times better than you think.
    Stay strong.

    I had a kidney stone removed on Monday and I removed my stent on Friday at home. Today is Sunday. I will not lie, after having time thinking about removing my stent. I was not looking forward to it, especially that anytime the string was moved I felt a bit of pain. I did not take any painkillers after the kidney stone removal. So when Friday came along, I took the pain medicine 1 hour prior to me removing it. It hurt removing it, but not that bad. I thought this is not bad at all, 6 hour later I realized the pain medicine was doing wonders. Once it wore off I felt pain in my kidneys and when urinating. The left over blood clots coming out did hurt. My advice is use the pain medication and take the dose again, do not let it wear off. You will be fine the next day.

    told take one of my pain meds 30 min before getting in the shower
    to pull it out,was damn uncomfortable but not as bad as I feared it
    would be at all and came right out.

    2019 - just had my stent removed in an outpatient procedure and I wanted to let others know it was not as bad as I had anticipated it would be. It went very fast for me (about a minute )and only a quick (15 second) weird feeling as the stent was pulled out. They gave me lidocaine to numb the urethra as much as possible beforehand.
    Don’t be scared it is not as bad as you may fear. Good luck everyone I know it’s been a long journey with kidney stones.

      Uhbsorb I know it is a bit more problematic but I’m telling you from my own experience it may be perhaps a few seconds longer they do use a topical anesthetic and it does help. Try not to stress too much if you can help it. I also too pain meds beforehand to help be more relaxed and help with the pain. I dont know if you’re in the US but maybe ask your doctor for the appropriate pain meds for you beforehand. Ask for enough for that day and perhaps a few extra days. I was prescribed tramadol and I made sure I had someone drive me. Never take pain meds without a rx unless it’s over the counter but Ibuprofen I learned is not good for surgery it can cause more bleeding than usual. So I took acetaminophen and tramadol 50mg.
      We have to do it and once it’s out you will feel so much better to have it all behind you.
      Remember it’s very fast probably 30 seconds to 2 minutes tops but I doubt it will be that long. Try not to worry and just think let’s get this over with.
      It’s about as long as getting a blood test. Well in my experience anyhow. Good luck and hang in there👍

    • @TransplantFitness
      @TransplantFitness  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're completely correct. Like I said in the video I definitely worked myself up more than I should have. Even as a guy it didn't 'hurt' too much only the firdt 5 seconds when they were putting the camera in the urethra for the firdt time. After that it's just really uncomfortable. So happy for you! 😊

    • @TransplantFitness
      @TransplantFitness  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes try not to stress it was definitely less scary than I thought it would be. I had a trainee nurse do mine so she took a little longer finding the stent but even so I managed to record the screen and ask them what they were doing. Hope all goes well mate 🤞🏽

    • @doartichaut9031
      @doartichaut9031 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Transplant Fitness oh no! If I had heard that a trainee was to be performing the procedure I would definitely make a fuss and request they train with someone else.
      I had a catheter put in once when it wasn’t necessary and then they asked if a nurse could come in to watch basically as they were starting to do it, I was saying I didn’t understand why they needed to do this and asked to speak to doctor, she said it was “ doctors orders” and ignored me which really made me angry.Then into the room stepped not one nurse but about 6-7 students watching me have a catheter inserted.
      I was in hospital and grieving after a miscarriage and felt violated they didn’t explain any of it beforehand.
      Maybe the laws or rules have changed since then but in the hospital I had all three procedures for kidney stones were a completely different experience and they explained everything and talked to me and even had me sign that I was aware of what the procedure was. I hope where you are they make sure you are fully informed and treat you gently and sensitively. I’m sorry for all you’ve gone through I don’t have kidney disease or issues but my uncle has it and I’ve seen all it entails with dialysis and know it isn’t easy.
      I hope you recover and can get back to enjoying life to the fullest. God bless you and yours 💖

    I will have mine removed soon.... as I am 5'5" EVERYTHING is small inside me and the initial surgery for implanting that stent was VERY difficult for my doctor. In the operation report he stated he used a 7.5 mm cystoscope.... and that it is the smallest size with an additional tooling-tunnel. There is a kids' version as well but he told me it's too short. So for my removal I will be in TIVA again. 😉

    Cystoscopy experience varies from patient to patient. Obviously for men due to anatomical differences, it can be much more painful. For many, if not most, it can be excruciating. Had 125 years ago and it was like torture and has left me with a type of PTSD, medical trauma. so when I found out, I had one two days after a kidney transplant. I hit the ceiling. Fortunately, I eventually found the urologist who would remove it under general anesthesia.

    Just got it out today, so it was definitely scary because my hole was a little too small so he had to numb me more and lube me more before forcing it in... I’m not one for pain but it was no where near as bad as I thought it would be. It’s definitely a little uncomfortable and burns, feels like you need to pee but it’s being blocked, once he got into my bladder it was just that discomfort but I didn’t feel the bladder part. I did watch on the monitor. Once they grabbed the stent and started pulling it out didn’t feel that. I’m so happy it’s over my kidney is a little sore but that’s it. So to anyone else who is waiting for this procedure just take deep breaths and I promise it was not that bad.
