    Guys I JUST got out of kidney stone surgery earlier today. I had a 9mm stone😱I have a stint down there and it HURTS to urinate and it’s pure blood🥵what caused it for me was #1 black tea! I’d kill a gallon of Walmart black tea unsweetened every 3-5 days! I had no idea I was doing damage. I cut it out completely now. I loved it but I gotta take care of my self. I’m 38.

      I too have a stent in place…I gotta go back for surgery to get a 1.1cm kidney stone removed. The pain I’m in on a daily is ridiculous. I was hospitalized for a week because of that and sepsis. The blood when I go pee on some days just….ugh 😭 I need this to end now!!

      I've never had a stone smaller than 16mm and I get them every year. About 10 years ago I had one so big that it blew up inside my ureter wall causing massive internal bleeding and unimaginable pain. My Urologist said it was over 25mm. Anyhow, are you doing any better? If so, what steps have you taken to slow them down?

      @@DrRobertChan you replied, what an honor, ty. Best news, I passed the stones this morning. You know what is amazing? Is how the pain is immediately gone once the stones passed. My wife is a nurse, she brought Covid home to us all. Both of my wives had Covid and all of my children got it too. My other wife was giving us all 1000mg of vitAmin C Tablets, this is the Asian in her. Vitamin c, solves life’s problems…. and this is what caused the kidney stones. 2 weeks of these tablets at 1000mg a day. But alas I drank so much water I flushed these things out of me, Took a whole week. Free at last! Keep making videos Dr, real people actually watch and learn.

      Dehydration is the #1 cause of kidney stones. You need to get enough water regularly over the day to help keep the urine diluted of stone-causing substances and flush the crystals that could become stones.
      Generally speaking, most things are fine in moderation if water isn't an issue.
      P.S. If that's not a problem but you're still getting stones, ask about a 24-hour urine test because that gives specifics into what's causing your rocks. Calcium oxalate stones can be from too much or too little calcium, too much salt or vitamin C, urine that's too acidic. Often oxalates aren't the main problem.

    Last 2019 I had blood in my urine. My doctors gave me prescriptions. They told me to have KUB ultrasound, findings that I have 2 stones. Every morning I always sits when peeing in May 2020. I was blessed to passed 2 consecutive stones while peeing. The next day another stone came out. I took it out of the toilet bowl for souvenirs. In 2021 another calcium stone smaller passed while am urinating sitting down on the toilet bowl. I thought no more kidney stones. When I took another kub ultrasound, there's still 2 stones. Now in 2022 am having blood in my urine, as if back to square one. My urologist gave me a list of food to avoid. I ask him what can I eat? My Hba1c is in the borderline, am getting frustrated and depress upon reaching 60 year old. Thanks to your video I can enjoy life and watch what I can eat and drink.

    Great info, Doctor Chan. Thank you! thank you! thank you! I'm currently experiencing renal calculus (11mm) as interpreted remotely by a urologist from a CT scan image sequence. My question is this, humble doctor: In addition to my daily regimen of Chanca Piedra, Stone Free, Flomax, Macrobid, Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar, and a gallon of water (half with lemon juice), should I strap my Bose subwoofer to my left-rear flank and play some classical music? Perhaps start with Beethoven's 5th, then Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor", and a movement of "O Fortuna" by Carl Orff. I mean it couldn't hurt; sort of a poor man's lithotripsy. Maybe you have some musical suggestions along this line. Please, no rap or hip-hop. I'm nauseated enough already.

    • @elaineharley5501
      @elaineharley5501 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Those products could be *causing* your stones (you may have passed others without knowing) to grow and they certainly won't help a stone pass.
      Chanca piedra can make the urine more alkaline but you can do that much cheaper with lemon juice. Regardless, making the urine more alkaline can deter calcium oxalate and uric acid stones but cause other types to grow. (And you can try and dissolve uric acid stones...but with potassium citrate.)
      ACV is too weak to do anything for kidney stones.
      Passing a stone depends on its shape as well as its size. It's not impossible to pass an 11 mm stone but chances aren't great, sorry. (I've passed two 7 mm stones; another that size became obstructive.)
      Macrobid is for bladder infections.
      Find a doctor who can share actual medical information with you.

    • @elaineharley5501

    • @DrRobertChan
      @DrRobertChan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know specifically about rice coffee, but you can extrapolate based on rice. brown rice is moderate in oxalate level (24 mg of oxalates per cup). ucikidneystonecenter.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Oxalate-Content-of-Foods.pdf

    What about sport drinks, like Gatorade or Propell. They have minerals and salts. Good or bad. Cranberry juice?

    • @elaineharley5501
      @elaineharley5501 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Water should be your main source of liquid. Water helps keep the urine diluted of stone-causing substances and flushes the crystals that could become stones. Caffeine is a diuretic and excess vitamin C turns to oxalates (which applies to cranberry juice too).

    Is taking Flomax required before kidney stone surgery uroscopy?

    • @elaineharley5501
      @elaineharley5501 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, it's not required. Flomax (tamsulosin) works by dilating the ureters and relaxing the neck of the bladder. It can help pass a stone but doesn't work for everyone. Plus passing a stone depends on its shape as well as its size.
      P.S. It's "ureteroscopy" for laser lithotripsy.

    Great Video Dr.
    I had a stone for a year before it was discovered this month when I finally got pain. I know now it was over a year in the making because I wet the bed twice a year ago but no one thought to check my kidney. Well after getting extreme pain in my right back side I went to the ER and they saw a 7mm stone. They also saw my creatinine levels up to 1.9 an after removing the stone 2 weeks ago my creatinine is now 1.67 and my EGFR level is 49… My questions are, now the surgery is fine and my stent is now removed, can I expect my creatinine’s level to go back down and my EGFR to go back up 🔝 to normal? If so, how long will it take approximately?

    • @elaineharley5501
      @elaineharley5501 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Indicators of kidney function can increase when you have a kidney stone or stent. They normally go back to normal after the problem has been treated. But keep in mind the numbers can be affected by what you eat and drink and if you're dehydrated.

      I doubt that you passed a stone that large without pain. If it just sitting in your kidney you enerslly aren't going to feel any pain. Once it breaks free and travels down the ureter get ready cause your gonna know what pain is, good luck with that. Try some remedies to dissolve it before it travels into the ureter!

    What about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) with the mother in it?

    • @DrRobertChan
      @DrRobertChan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      what is the mother?

    • @MrKozanitis
      @MrKozanitis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dr. Robert Chan surprised you don't know! ACV is best when it is organic and unfiltered. The so-called mother is the unfiltered particles that are in the Vinegar and settle in the bottom of the bottle. That is why one always shakes the bottle vigorously before pouring. You get the maximum nutritional value thusly when you imbibe it!

    When reading the ingredients on a product, how can you determine the oxalate content? Is it just something you have to know?

    • @DrRobertChan
      @DrRobertChan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I usually go to the website www.kidneystonediet.com to figure out oxalate content. most of the time, they won't have oxalate content on the back of the products.

    I drink a lot of non-dairy coffee creamer. Sugar free since I have type 2 diabetes. The brand is “Wide Awake Coffee Co”. I drink regular medium breakfast blend but at night I usually have caffeine free. I don’t use a normal cup I use a travel mug so it stays warm longer so the amount is more than regular cup of coffee. Is this Bad for me? I have had a 4mm stone for a few months already.

    • @DrRobertChan
      @DrRobertChan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      creamer is fine to take. it's kind of the same as milk. i think people assume that since they have calcium stones, , they should stop drinking dairy or consuming calcium... but that's not really the case...

    I appreciate Dr. Chan making a video to help ppl with kidney stone issues. However, I wish he would have reminded ppl that even though beer & wine do not have high levels of oxalates, alcohol can dehydrate the body, which in turn can contribute to the formation of stones. So as he said, moderation is key in EVERYTHING.

    Doctor i have recently diagnosed 6.6 mm kidney stone in my left ureter, 12th jan, 2021 my kidney surgeon fragmentated it by using ureterscopy with laser and he installed a ureter stent there for two weeks, i m now taking ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice a day and flowmax 0.4mg at night due to reason unkown to me i m getting hearburn feeling in night which is very painful, what can i do now? for get rid of this scenario..my second question is that before this procedure i often in past years passes kidney stone without having surgery or procedure, but with the help of homeopathic medicine only..does it better to have homeopathic medicine instead of painful treatment of allopathic?

    I usually drink wine or beer for stones it also helps more than western medicine coffee seems to aggravate them but I think it’s really just moving the stone same as alcohol minus the numbing effects alcohol has and I crave lemons, lemon juice, lemon water with them which I’ve heard can help dissolve them unfortunately I had to have a stent put in this time because it was stuck half way in my ureter causing an infection that was causing urine to back up in my kidney

  • @hongtan41

    Very informative. I just had ureteroscopy to remove a big stone a few days ago. The stent has been killing me because of the unbearable pain. I have several days to go before the doc removes the stent. I love Caffe Mocha. Now I know it maybe a bad thing for me. I have watched several of your videos. Thank you so much.
