  • This video is about my personal experience only. Not everybody will react in the same way to the same things, that is what makes us human! Hoping to shed some light on the sorts of things I go through as a person with a chronic illness and hoping the some of you may be able to either relate or learn.
Any questions, ask away down below
Thank f*** The stent is out!

Sick to death of Drs lying about “you will have slight discomfort”. Why do the feel the need to lie? It was the worst pain I have ever had. 14 days of being bed ridden and peeing blood, crying, taking schedule 8 drugs. 10 days sick leave, I could walk to the toilet and shower myself. Anyone I speak to about a stent, I put the fear of God in them, so they are at least prepared for what is going to come. Don’t lie to patients, it is not cool.

So strange that I ended up in the hospital for the same exact size of stone on my left side with the same kidney infection. I have been searching about the horrible pain I’m dealing with right now; I can’t even walk right because it hurts so much. Razor blades coming out of your urethra, exactly what I feel. They tell you Tylenol will help with the pain, but it does nothing. I called to ask if the pain was normal, and they said stents don’t cause such pain when walking. This video validates that I’m not the only one, so thank you for sharing.
On a side note, for those like me who are in the process of finding answers to why all of the sudden you have kidney stones problems. My primary care provider said that Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) may be the cause why kidney stones are created. Hope this helps.

Hello Ella, I would like to say that you are clearly a very intelligent young woman. Your information was very unbiased and you looked at this from all angles. I am so sorry to hear that at such a young age you are having medical challenges, and it comes across that you keep a positive attitude in life. I too have had kidney stones since the age of 15, so I have had them for 40 years. I thought I was the only one who had pain with the stent, and this video is reassuring. I agree about the pain, when you have had a stone for years you understand the pain more so are able to cope. I am booked in for Monday to remove the stone and stent and I should get around 5 years of small stones that will pass without help. I wish you good health and will have a positive thought for you. ATB john

Thank you for sharing your experience. Unfortunately for me I had an extremely traumatic experience and I'm still facing the consequences of it. For me the pain was so intense, I felt like having electric shocks going up and down my spine and back of the skull, went to A&E about 5 times after having the stent put in, and kept complaining about that I couldn't cope with the pain and also that I wasn't sleeping at all. Anyway all they kept doing were blood tests and telling me that I would had to wait for an appointment for the removal of the stent. Anyway hospital didn't think it was a big deal, unfortunately when it comes to sleep they're not interested in it and every time they pretty much said that I had to cope with the pain, consequently kept unirating blood and had to wait 2months for the appointment, they then removed the stone and replaced a new stent and had to wait a further 2weeks for the complete removal of the stent. 8 months later, I lost my job, I ended up in 3 different mental hospitals, was put under section 2 and 3, can't fall to sleep without medication, suffer from anxiety and depression and even with medication some nights I don't get sleep at all. It has totally destroyed my life

I wonder if the other people who experience so much more pain with the stent then others, like myself. If you have interstitial cystitis but are not aware of it. I think it’s one of the most undiagnosed problems that people have. I.C. Is when you have tears in your bladder. So having the stent for people who have that, the pain is a constant 10+. For me it is worse than the kidney stone itself that I had stuck in my ureter for over 4 months. I avoid kidney stone surgery like the plague. I’ve been passing kidney stones for almost 15 years. I lost count after the first few years just how many. It’s definitely like living with a curse. But to add Interstitial Cystitis on top of that is even more brutal. I hope this message finds someone looking for answers as to why they may not only be struggling with pain from a stent but also just every day life. It causes you to need to urinate often, it burns, the whole bladder aches & mimics a UTI.

Wow, I am so fortunate that I was not in any pain while the stent was in place. I knew what a cystoscopy was like since I had gone over 20 years before. This time after a kidney surgery, I was not told until two days afterward, that I had a stent put in.I found a urologist who would remove the stent under general anesthesia because I would never let anyone do a cystoscopy again without that I realize that for some reason the procedure is not that painful but for enough patience, it is excruciating

I had a stent put in about a year ago and it was horribly painful. I am now looking at a procedure where they’re going to go in with a balloon and try to drain my kidney and then put in another stent. But I’m honestly thinking of just not doing it. When I talk to the lady on the phone, she said the stent might be a permanent thing. I can honestly say I think I would rather risk death. I don’t wanna live my whole life in that kind of pain. when I spoke to my urologist before he made it sound like it wasn’t that big a deal. Had a ureteroscopy 2 days ago to remove a stone. Unfortunately for me, it was discovered I had a ureteral stricture so the scope couldn't pass through my ureter to get to the stone. A stent was placed. I'm dying of pain. Cannot stand straight, walk or move, nauseous at times, no appetite, peeing blood constantly and it's painful to pee, back hurts, abdomen feels full and extremely bloated, lower pelvic area in constant pain and the side with the stent is throbbing, can't get comfortable in any position, can't sleep, can't do a thing, basically bedridden. My parents are doing everything, feeding me, bathing me, changing my clothes, helping me use bathroom etc. Pure hell. I have to go at least 2 weeks with it. I don't know how to cope that long. Painkillers aren't helping much 😢 There is a chance the stent won't be enough and I have to do some sort of balloon dilation procedure in 2 weeks to try and retrieve the stone. If that doesn't work, I have to do laser to cut the stricture. All because of an unnecessary stone 😡 God help me through this! 😢
P.S: I am glad you are doing well and over this whole ordeal. God bless and thanks for the video. Thought I was having complications but it seems it's all "normal" with stents. You put my mind at ease so thanks a lot for sharing. My doctor gave me no info whatsoever about what to expect nor does he take my concerns seriously.

Ahh I'm sorry you are currently going through this. ☹️ I have had many stents before and every single time they leave me bed-bound in pain & barely able to walk.
Know that you're not alone and when google/the doctors say it's not that painful that's a load of rubbish. I'm guessing they will either take your stent out after your surgery or a few weeks later. Sometimes they leave it in to allow the fragments to pass more easily but there are ways around this (depending on your surgeon).. definitely worth asking if they can get the stent out as soon as the surgery is done. I've vowed to never consent to a stent again after my last experience. I have had many operations without stents, so I know it's possible but it's more complicated for the surgeon I believe, so they are often unwilling to do it.
The positive is that once the stent is out, you'll feel so much better. Take comfort in the fact that sooner or later the pain will be gone!!

I know this is two years old and I am so sorry of the pain you experienced. I too had double j stints in each kidney. Started with the neph tubes in my back for 6 months, then the stints went in. All this because of cancer and blocking my uter tubes. Was told they could control the spasms with meds, get them put in then get told we can’t give you anything because of your reduced kidney function. So, o thing in the bladder for 6 months then two stints rubbing. I have never ever experienced such agony, constant agony, worse when I pee which is like all the time. I agree, docs should be honest and tell us this could suck. These are coming out in 48 hours, I will take my chances, I have a shit life right now and cannot even walk.

I am also 18 weeks pregnant so went in to the assessment unit yday to see if everything was ok because I didn’t believe these stents where to cause so much pain and they are treating me for a UTI now . I am on the antibiotic from yday and I’m hoping something eases it soon I am about to pull my hair out . I want this out 😢😢😢😢😢

Stent due to blocked ureter, hydroureter and hydrokidney. This is my the stone in less than a year. I cannot bear this pain with this stent. It is nearly as bad as the flank pain from the kidney stones. The only way I'm comfortable is if I am knocked out asleep. Otherwise it is constant burning, urgency and pressure. Right now all around my belly button it feels rock hard. And I'm hoping everything is ok. I was able to lay on my side after the procedure to release the stone and the blocked up urine, but now once again I'm feeling pain while lying on my side. The emptier my bladder is, the more pain I feel. And they do NOT like to give pain meds for anything here in the US anymore. Honestly could be lying there dying and they'd be like why waste meds on a dying person?

I had my stent removed last Tuesday. I hated the stent! It was in there for 2 weeks and I urinated blood the entire time it was in there and kidneys ached and throbbed the whole time. Every time I urinated, it felt like someone was squeezing my testicles. I felt nauseous and clammy the entire time. The removal was pretty painful, but it didn’t take but like 10 seconds or so. Once it was out, I felt like a brand new man! I was finally able to pee and feel like it all came out.

I’m suffering terribly as I’m watching this video searching for some relief. I’ve had 5-6 of these stents after lithotripsy to blast stones and each time I’ve gone through hell with pain. Several years ago I was on strong pain meds with one and it was not helping me AT ALL. My niece who is a RN suggested I take 800mg ibuprofen and I said to her that I’m taking strong pain meds and it wasn’t helping, what on earth could ibuprofen do? I had nothing to lose so I took it and it worked! After that I never felt it at all and had it removed days later. So…years later when another stent was implanted I thought I had the magic fix… but NOPE!!! These things are horrible! I told my doc I want to be admitted to hospital on IV pain meds. But of course they don’t do that…but they should because it’s that bad!

Hi I hope you’re doing a lot better now and are pain free. How many days after removal were you experiencing pain? Was it just flank pain? I have my lithotripsy on the 31st finally after over 3 weeks of being with a stent. They told me they would keep the stent in for a couple of days after surgery to ensure everything is draining well and then I get it removed. I’m really nervous as it’s the stent without the string and I don’t want to be awake to have something placed in my urethra to remove the stent. :(

The spasms or contractions or whatever it is doing, feels like it is trying to expel the demons, blood and all. Gas lighting from drs and nurses ... Yeah it'll be uncomfortable. No. It will be painful. Sure this pain isnt anywhere near it was that got me to the emergency room, but this isnt just "uncomfortable". Have imaging in 2 days, to see if the stone has moved, then have a procedure to breakdown the stone, and hopefully keep the stent out. This is horrific.

Right after, I began cycle like bleeding, even though I havent had one in 6 years, due to a Nexplanon I have for endometriosis. Yesterday, removed stone and put in fresh stent. Having cycle like bleeding again. I hate these stents! Having it removed in clinic next week and so scared of the pain! Nobody knows why Im bleeding like this. Possibly trauma like in that area thats causing it?

But mybe I am just a p ssy but for sure I had three colic pains in three nites of one that took almost 2 hours and was done with it and called emergencies and they told me to take ibrofen and in half hour it was kinda getting better bcz I was dead tired of the pain and the pills I took. I think have kind of pain tolerance but this is a little bit too much to deal with for two weeks till they get this JJ stent out of me. Any more tips when you get collic pains. Yes when you ahve to pee a lot I do feel pain but that pain is bearable I just hit the wall while peeing and all is okay but the pain attacks for the cramps of the kidney is murdering for me....

@@taebebe9528You certainly are not a p ssy or weak. Everyone has such vastly different experiences with these. I have had to learn to live with chronic severe pain for half my life with my many health issues. But stents are extremely difficult for me. I think doctors can often gaslight their patients. They obviously know that many people really struggle with the extreme pain it causes them. They’re well aware. They just don’t want to prescribe meds so they tell you it can’t be that bad. I feel like all urologists should have to have a kidney stone & stent themselves to pass medical school. 😂
