JDM n Euro Mossy hey, 2 time Minnesota amateur flat track champion here. Flat track tires are too soft for the road. They are also not dot approved. Keep in mind we race on hard packed dirt. Not even joking that dirt can get as hard as concrete. Also, we drop our suspension. If you put flat track wheels on your Ktm you will have to drop it so the wheel doesn’t rub on the fork seal protector things. Do the supermoto, you’ll have more fun and it will perform better
@@holidayracing4741 am only building a bike for fun not major milage and competing, will be 50 50 on road and off road with mountains so be better for me to be flat track set up over supermoto as I have a road bike
Jdm enduro I'd thoroughly recommend flat track tyres on any supermoto it's incredible compared to 16/17in sm wheels I've done it to my 450 and 250 gas gas factory supermoto excellent fun
I think that the most people build the supermoto, because you need small front wheel, when you want to go fast the hard corner. Like race specials has 16,5 front wheel. Smaller wheels = easy turn. (mean on the road). Just my opinion. And i don´t like, how the flat track wheel look. :D But nice video! And that end is the best!
I think that the main reason people go with the 17" wheels on the sm is because sport bikes tires are readily available in the 17" sizes, and not in the 19's.
Remember classic flat track do not use front brake and run in flat dirt, that's the reason you need a larger diameter front wheel. Just try run flat track with smaller front tire and you will found out.
For a flat track setup you should lower the suspensions, to lower the center of mass and get better control whil going sideways, hell yeah. Kawasaki is ALWAYS cool, even with paper wheels. :D
A better way to do a cheap flat track conversion is to take the wheels apart, put the stock rear 19x2.25 rim on the front, and buy a 19x2.5 or 3.0 for the rear.
Thats not how that works, the rear hub is designed to have a sproket mount and is physically thicker than a stock front hub. The rear would never be able to seat right on the front forks.
@@CoachSludge i think you dont understand how it works, Ben Boyd probably means to put the rear rim on the front hub, you need to assembly the spokes again, but it would totally work.

There are two problems with your flat track bike. For one the front brake is ditched and second the whole chassis needs to be lowered in order to be closer to the ground for sliding in the corners or more stability on the straights.
Iam thinking of building a supermoto but with flattrack wheels, do you know if I can buy a 19" backwheel and put it on as a frontwheel or do i need a special 19" frontwheel?

I know I ran my wr450f on the streets as a Supermoto and a dual sport. In dual sport mode I could run away from all the Supermotos off road but once on the street I had to really slow down for the turns. Maybe 19s with grippy rubber could let you lean and push hard through the turns. Of course one thing to remember is most street legal dirt bikes or bike people would convert come with a 18 inch rear rim. So it would still cost a lot to convert. you have to do the test with the same model bike and same tire type on both and same rider and just change rim size one bike with supermoto other with flat track rims for a fair test.... maybe also make the track 50% road 50% offroad that would be a super interesting test
@@robbyknapp3705 no, flat track is a bike that has been lowered and has flat track tires, doesnt matter about frame, I race flat track for a long time, and it has always been the same

Bikes nowadays are designed for motocross. They don’t turn far enough. And they don’t look good. Old time professional flat track. Back in the 80s. That was real for track. Even a framed 450 I would consider to be modern flat track. But it’s gotta be in a flat track frame
@@robbyknapp3705 I bought a brand new crf450r and used it for flat track, changed suspension and wheels and took the parts off, it turns fine, doesnt need a modified frame to turn
I’m not saying it won’t turn. I’m saying they don’t look good. And they actually don’t turn. If you get on a cushion. You can get to the lock really easy and it’s scary when you do because your sitting there thinking. Hmm. This isn’t turning very far. This isn’t good. And later on in the pits you wish you had a framed bike
I think you guys should build a track and test all your dirt bikes, pit bikes, cross carts, and all your other crazy cool vehicles to see witch had the fastest lap time
A proper American flat tracker is lowered and doesn’t run a front break, this is more of a TT set up, which should still be dropped a few inches. Still very cool. If you ever find yourself in the Midwest, it’s big in central Illinois, during the summer go check out some flat track and/or tt racing in person videos don’t do it justice. Bring hearing protection they are very loud it will hurt your ears.
supamoto looks just awesome. fun vid with the crash sell! yuha is the crazy pro and annti is the brain, makes a great team. today i bought a new back smoto tire, if i knew this a couple hours earlier, i´d have decided for the flat track. keep up the good vids!!
Try putting some rain tyres on that sm I run them on mine they dont last as long but there alot softer an hookup better on the dirt .why dont you run tubeless.
Question: So for the front wheel you just buy another rear wheel and install? Or do you have to use the hub from the front wheel and spoke it up to a rear sized rim? I cant find any info on how to do it. Just supermoto wheels kits and what not. Also where would you even buy the wheel for the front all ready to go if you do have to do the whole respoked front hub/rear rim thing
Now you just need to compare them on the street. If this wont make a big difference im changeing to trial tires. You can see how the supermoto just sends it as soon as its on concrete. The flattrack doesnt make a big difference between terrains.
Super moto front wheels are small so that the wheel will not come up as easily when driving on the pavement and the bike gets amazing traction... flat track is slick dusty so they want the bike flat for even traction on both wheels
nice video! but in my opinion a flat track or stock wheels with road tires are not very different to each other. beacause the frontwheel is 21 inch.and now its gonna be 18 or 19 inch(my husqvarna's have 18 and 19 inch rear wheels) so a flat track is also just for the looks(thats my opinion) and i see you guys have FLY helmets..i also got a FLY helmet, whats your experience with this brand? greetz!
This isn't a flat track set up. It's putting dirt track tires and and 19 inch rim on a stock bike. To be flat tracked/DT, it needs to have lowered suspension. They're not a conversion to road use. The tires are going to wear super fast on any surface other then dirt.
Y'know guys, I have been reading a fair bit on the demise of British Speedway. It really seems they are on a downward slide. It's a real shame but the more I think about it the more I think the clubs should go the way of Flat Track racing. The bikes can be bought off the shelf from the big four manufacturers too and although the single speed Speedway bikes with no brakes would have no future, the tracks themselves could be modified and have a future. There is also Flat Track in the States and elsewhere which would mean international competition. The bikes look great too and the youngsters (who are the future and much under-represented) would be sure to want to get involved. It's taken me a while to put this down in a comments section and if I were to do so in a Speedway video I would come in for some heavy stick from the diehards and the purists, but c'mon, we really are up against it with the future of Speedway in the UK, so something has to give. Everything changes with time, but this would be a change for, dare I say it, the better?

When you add a 19 in the front, do you need a special front hub? Or can you just add any rear 19 inch in the front?
supamoto looks just awesome. fun vid with the crash sell! yuha is the crazy pro and annti is the brain, makes a great team. today i bought a new back smoto tire, if i knew this a couple hours earlier, i´d have decided for the flat track. keep up the good vids!!
Juha and antti
What're the general specs of a flat track tire? Like tread and size.
Very nice video!
Can you tell me the brand of the front rim and the tires and where did you get it please???
So cool, I want both now... very fast, very awesome!
This tires look perfect 👌🏽
Looks ace! Grip just aswell as the supermoto?
info on wheel/tires dimension pleease. thank you
Now you just need to compare them on the street. If this wont make a big difference im changeing to trial tires.
You can see how the supermoto just sends it as soon as its on concrete. The flattrack doesnt make a big difference between terrains.
That was a fun watch! Nice one guys!
Which one is faster Summer moped or Winter moped
Super moto front wheels are small so that the wheel will not come up as easily when driving on the pavement and the bike gets amazing traction... flat track is slick dusty so they want the bike flat for even traction on both wheels
nice video! but in my opinion a flat track or stock wheels with road tires are not very different to each other. beacause the frontwheel is 21 inch.and now its gonna be 18 or 19 inch(my husqvarna's have 18 and 19 inch rear wheels)
so a flat track is also just for the looks(thats my opinion)
and i see you guys have FLY helmets..i also got a FLY helmet, whats your experience with this brand?
greetz!
This isn't a flat track set up. It's putting dirt track tires and and 19 inch rim on a stock bike. To be flat tracked/DT, it needs to have lowered suspension. They're not a conversion to road use. The tires are going to wear super fast on any surface other then dirt.
Wich is better for stunt tho??? 🤔🤔🤔
Flat track has 18 or 19 inch
Hi There! Great Vid! What performance mods have been made on the KTM?
how many inches was the wheel!? I cant remember xDD
19"
Thinking about building a flat track for road but is the front brake strong enough?
I've seen everything on instagram, great bike
what are the front and rear tire sizes for the flat tracker ? Please
What wheels are those? Guess I need a 19" rear aswell for my EXC250.. :S
Very good video, very honest test. Congrats on your new KTM Juha!😂
Wheels of Flat track looked good, but still looked too big
Ya forgot the lower, stiffer suspension, on a flat tracker!
Wich tires an rim did you use for the flat track build?
from the uk odd that wheel sizes in inches not mill.
