I am.so happy.i found your video. I've had my 2006 P71 for more than a year... And the horn never worked. And I've tried to find things online, and couldn't. I just recently got a 2010 P7B. But the horn works in that... I found those blue wires in my 06. And connected them. But it didn't do anything. On my black one, the relay clicked. So I swapped the relays.. and the horn worked!!!!!! So I'm glad you made this video, because I would have never guessed it was the blue wires. And it saved me from going to a mechanic! Thanks so much.
There's the issue of installing cruise control. I got an '09 (drive-by-wire) & got a steering wheel from a compatible year Lincoln & mounted it. I tried several pullers to get the old wheel off, with no success. In frustration after 4+ hours of trying, I ended up going cave man on the old wheel with a rubber mallet & launched that baby into the back seat with my second earnest swing. Then all I had to do was mount the new wheel, plug it into the harness already present, & go give a hundred bucks to my local Ford dealer to turn it on. Works like a charm.
Thanks for the info. I got lucky with mine. I bought a 2007 former Florida Highway Patrol P71 last year and everything, the lights, stereo, a/c, horn, trunk release (both the door and dash buttons work and without the ignition), rear doors / windows all work like it should. Whoever stripped the equipment out of it took their time and did a good job and didn't leave cut wires laying all over the place and didn't hack the car up. The only thing that I had to deal with was disabling Dark Mode for the interior lights to work with the doors opened. I was able to do that myself with Forscan and a laptop. No dealer needed.
I have been fixing and improving my 06 since I got it last year. My rear doors were totally gutted, didn't even have the part riveted in that the handle mounts to. Got those and the factory rod kit for the latch's, window connector behind the b pillar trim panel was reconnected to fix them. I wired the headlights with relays right from the battery, makes them MUCH brighter and the LCM is much less likely to fail also. A center console for a Jeep works great and an overhead console from a minivan fits pretty good, looks much better then the ticket light and covers the hole in the headliner where the dome light used to be. It was front damaged when I got it, when repaired none of the exterior police stuff was replaced. No push bar, and no spot lights. I wanted the police mechanical equipment without the cop car look. Tinted windows on the backs and some Mustang Bullit wheels with a size wider tire really make it look good. I rewired the trunk button to hot with ignition on only and moved it to the door, the hole in the dash where it was now holds the driving lights switch.
It was a Dodge Caravan but I don't know the year, probably late 2000's, or model. I just looked around at every thing in the pick a part until I found one I liked. Took some doing to mount it but it looks pretty good.
can you send some pics of the head console? Im currently figuring out what I want to do with that. I really want to get the police security camera overhead console. haha way to expensive.
To disable dark mode on the newer Crown Victoria, there is a great tool called Forscan that you can use with a $30 adapter. This will allow you to disable dark mode in the module and also change a bunch of other options available. I have a 09 P71 and I was able to enable remote keyless entry using Forscan.
Hopefully my horn is an easy fix and can find the wire as easy as you showed .. Not too worried about the Dark Mode thing but will check with the Dealer as the wife may fuss about it .. Good Video, Thanks ..
Wow this video was exactly what I needed. My horn stopped working shortly after getting my old SD sheriff unit. I remembered a paper clip that was jammed into one of the trunk wire harness cable plugs (right side). I must have vacuumed it up cleaning, and never noticing the horn no longer worked. After several months without trying the horn I was surprised that it did work... Anyway under the glove box there is the big wire harness. As shown in the video. I found two dark blue wires be in there own loom running with the bug bundle. One was even labeled as Horn loop. After following the wire harness to the right side kick panel I saw that it headed to the back of the car. So I clipped the two wires under the glove box and connected them together (the ones that go to the drivers side) and sure enough the horn works. Thank you so much for this video.
@@WJHandyDad For me - no way. I would prefer that I get into the car darkly and then have a switch on the dash or that consul that I instal to turn on the inside lights.
I solved the dark mode by going to the junk yard and take a interior light module from a non police crown vic and installing it into mine. Lights comes on when I open the door and turn off when I close the door.
Rear windows roll down from rear switch but not drivers switch any ideas? An mine was a k9 unit it has door poppers in rear do they make a universal remote for those
my guess is either bad switch at the driver door or a cut wire somewhere. I have a video on testing the switch... you'd need to modify the test to check for power to the rear though
My doors won’t lock. You can hit the switch and here it try to lock them and no go lol. Also have the two holes in my roof with those ugly plugs. And last but not least my hazards work but not my turn signals. Any ideas on how to fix these things?
A multimeter and some patience is unfortunately where you'll need to start. Start seeing where you have power - try to figure out if it's the switches, a cut wire, or bad lock motors. It seems unlikely that all 4 lock motors or both lock switches went bad at the same time, but if the power unlock works it should be the same wires (they reverse polarity). Same thing for the turn signals. I've never heard of them cutting turn signals. You never know what they cut when they downfit back to civilian use though. Good luck!
Hey I have a 2010 cvpi my battery exploded I was still driving it bcuz I didn’t know then it cut off on the highway. I tried to jump it before getting a knew battery. After I changed the battery now the car won’t start any idea what it could be
if the battery "exploded" there is no telling what happened unfortunately. I'd start by seeing if you have continuity on the ground and go from there. I also have a video on DIY "why won't my car start" but I suspect in your situation it's related to the battery explosion. Good luck!
Excellent video! One thing I do believe you have missed and I see a lot of people ask about are the high beams not working. When I got mine the high beams wouldn't turn on but ended up being just the cut wires under the hood.
sounds like faulty brake switch or the wiring got hooked up incorrectly when they decommissioned the car... that's where I'd start checking first - it's right above the brake pedal
If you install the 16" rims from a 2001 p71 on the newer (mine is 2008) models, it gives the car a better stance, as the offset is different, it looks better, and the handling difference...Wow.
That's the same console I bought. Wal Mart, 29.95. An issue with these cars is flickering lights. I replaced the control module, best place to get it is Rock Auto. The problem persisted. I wanted to replace the headlight switch. It is a XW7Z-11654-AA, discontinued. I took the thing apart (3 tabs), and noticed the contact surfaces and wipers were shiny, where the wear was, and where the "on" position was, looked dirty. I used fine Emory cloth, did cross hatch sanding on the contact arcs, and cleaned up the ends of the wiper fingers. Hopefully, problem solved. I tested the headlights, but the real test is on a longer drive. News at 11.
are they LED? If so, try flipping them in the socket. If that doesn't fix it it's probably a cut wire somewhere. Police departments are famous for cutting wires.
Dont know how common this is , but the headlights not working at times but still have dash and running lights front and rear ? It may be the lighting control module burning out . This is usually something caused by the (rookie) outfitter hot wiring the low and high beam power wires to a relay or other switch to wig-wag the headlights rather than getting a plug n play . This will be evident by the splices in the harnesses leading to each headlight. .10 years ago a new lighting control module was $200 from the stealership( which i needed some time to save up for ) so in the interum i mounted some $20 fog lights on the pushbumper and a rocker switch on the dash next to the factory switch so when the mains went out i could still see where the fuck i was going. .This was an '03 and the lcm was behind the dash near the steering column , took a minute to replace.
Are you asking can you intentionally blow a fuse to turn off traction control? I've heard of folks pulling a fuse or two to turn off traction control but I wouldn't recommend messing with your vehicle like that.
WJ Handy Dad no sir. I’ve watched videos of people doing that and can understand why they are but I’d never do that intentionally..I have a 2003 crown victoria lx that I rarely drive and the tracking control is no Longer working. I hit the switch but it doesn’t come on, so I don’t know if it’s a blow fuse or something mechanical has on long. if so I’ve watched many of your videos and didn’t know if you’ve ever came across something like that
I don't know which fuse specifically, but there is at least 1 fuse that would provide power to the wires that go to the switch. Testing for blown fuses is one of my least favorite things to do. Good luck!
I have a question about my 06 P71. But first some info to explain why I have this question. So a few months ago I had a bad caliper, so the car was sitting unmoved. When me and my friend went to move the car under the barn roof to fix the caliper, the battery was dead. We jumped the car battery to start the car and then moved the car to fix the caliper. Then we replaced the battery. But after this, and after driving the car for a few miles, the car stalled on me, and I got a check engine light. The car gave me a TPS sensor code. Because I didn't know then and I learned from a Ford tech later. After replacing a dead battery, if you don't clean and recalibrate the electronic throttle body, you can get this code. But because I didn't know, I paid for a new throttle body, fuel sytem tune-up, and throttle body install. I wish I knew before to save money. I could've just cleaned the old throttle body, and recalibrated it myself, problem solved. Now here's were the problems started that lead to my question. After the mechanic installed the new throttle body, the vehicle would continue to stall and gave the same code. I guess the mechanic didn't recalibrate the new throttle body. Now here's the problem and my question. Since I haven't had time to recalibrate the throttle body, I still have the light. But I can still drive the car to work, and then sometimes it will stall. In one of the times that the vehicle stalled and turned off, I pressed the brakes to slow down and pull to the side of the road, but the brake pedal froze in place, and I had no brakes. I was forced to put the transmission in park while the vehicle was still moving, slowly slowing down. After shifting to park to try to stop the vehicle, and while the vehicle was slowing down, I heard a weird grinding noise frrom beneath the vehicle until the vehicle stopped hard and I heard a loud clank. I then turned the car off. After restarting the vehicle, everything seemed fine. The engine started, engine light still on because of the throttle body issue, which I'll recalibrate it soon to erase the code, and I was able to shift to drive. But once I started rolling again, the bigger problem started. When I would accelerate, or while driving at a steady highway speed I would hear a noise under the car from the drivetrain. As if being able to hear the driveshaft's rotation. Like I could hear the driveshaft rotating. I know hearing driveshaft noise from the aluminum driveshaft is normal on P71s. This is stated on the complimentary police/fleet equipment manual that came with the car's standard maintenance and owners manual. But after the stalling incident, and the grinding noise coming from the drivetrain during the incident the driveshaft noise is way louder and noticeable. So my question is. What do you think is causing the noise, and did I damage something in the drivetrain or driveshaft? Thanks.
very few things are easy to diagnose over the internet. I'd have to guess that you damaged something by shifting into park while moving, but I couldn't say for sure. It also sounds like you have a vacuum leak or air in your brake lines (or both). Hopefully some of the other viewers of this channel can chime in with some thoughts and suggestions. good luck!
Hi, I recently bought a 2009 CVPI and wanted to install a keyless entry alarm system and the door locks does not work without the ignition switch on. That might be a safety thing being a Police car but how can I make it work without the ignition switch so I can keyless enter the car ? If you have any idea please let me know, I'm stuck with a new Viper alarm system waiting to be installed... Thank you !
sounds like someone cut a wire and re-routed the power to key on power rather than full time battery power. I'm not aware of that being a "normal" thing for police cars (I've actually never seen that). I do have a video on installing keyless entry that should help you.
I'm bringing the car to an electro mechanic to find out what was modified , in the mean time I'll keep looking around for answers !, Thank you very much for your reply !!
it shouldn't be difficult to fix yourself if you have some basic wiring skills. Most likely places to cut and swap the wire would be at the switch, under the steering wheel (left side), or under the glove box. If they cut a wire, they likely left it there so it could be reattached later.
No kidding. What kind of reading light? The civilian model headliners had a drooped spot right there between the rear seats where some cars had a rear dome light installed. It would come on automatically with the doors or you would have to swivel one of the light heads, which would turn it on individually as a reading light. Found one in a junk yard and installed it in my car when I had it.
just little red LED lights that I installed up near the seat belt slots (where they come out of the c-pillar). They run through a relay so they come on when the interior lights are on or if manually switched on in the rear (but only under accessory power). I think they are shown in some of my videos. I probably need to do a specific video because several have asked about them.
how can you make the dinger sound turn off or siconnect it. they disabled the passenger air bag and it dings 5 times for 5 times in a row, and i wanna disconnect it.
it's a pretty good squeeze just between the seats. If you have the police mounting bar still (my '03 had it but '08 did not) you can bolt it to that and be very secure. I haven't tried, but you might even be able to drill into the floorboard to mount it. In any event, with the rubber police floor it sits pretty securely without doing anything.
WJ Handy Dad yeah I've seen a few people online say that it fits fine unbolted between the seats, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks for responding.
I have a 2000 crown vic lx with an intermittent horn. it would work for month then stop then start after a week, I replaced the relay. this has been going on for years any suggestions, Thanks
05 p71, wig wag flasher uses the hi beam switch on column to activate, flasher unit is in front of radiator, just remove flasher and connect wires, also strobe light set ups kill brake lights, small purple wire cut in under dash drivers side below column, reconnect purple wires and brake lights will work.
test with a voltmeter and see if you're getting ~14.4 volts when the vehicle is running, make sure all cables are tight, belt isn't slipping. It's possible you got a bad alternator but also possible it's just a loose cable somewhere or bad belt. good luck!
common failure of the digital odometer! on eBay u will find an remanufactured Odometer for nearly 100 bucks. its very simple to change the odometer. 30min work. search on YT
what do u know about the trunk wiring? I have a p71 and they cut all the wires I figured out for the signal lights, but I still have no reverse lights or trunk release..
there are pass throughs on both driver and passenger side. You'll need to find where the wires are cut and just reconnect them. Most likely they are cut at an accessible location rather than at a hidden location. Sounds like a careless "downfitter"
May I ask what stereo you put in that particular Crown Victoria in the video? I just purchased one with only a radio and I am looking for a stereo with a CD and a usb auxiliary port. Thank you for the super useful video!
@@WJHandyDad okay, just now seeing this post. All the fuses were good. I took my radio out with a removal tool, find my connection was unplugged. That's why I wasn't receiving power. I'm not receiving radio stations signal just static, could you help me out?
What about getting the door to lock and unlock with the switch? It lights up but just doesn’t work I even tried to swap it out. What could be the problem & how to fix it.
gonna need a multimeter and start checking for power in various places and what happens when you press lock and when you press unlock. Sounds like no power to the actual switch but you'll need to verify with a multimeter and then figure out why no power (blown fuse or cut wire the 2 most likely issues)
I have a 2011 cvpi. My dome lights only come one when the rear drivers side and passenger doors are opened. When I open the front two doors nothing happens. Also, if I turn my car off, leave the headlights on and open the door it does not chime. (The same can be said when my key is in the ignition and the door is open.) do you have any idea why this is happening?
I don't think they have a manual switch, they just sense a certain amount of weight in the seat to trigger it to turn on. You could probably rig up a manual switch fairly easily if you needed to
My 2011 crown vic will go through the gears park, reverse, drive all that, it even indicates the reverse lights but will not move what so ever, any tips?!?
unfortunately that's not going to be easy to diagnose over the internet. Could be bad transmission, locked up brakes, broken drive shaft, seized rear end, and probably a handful of other possibilities.
Motor wasn't cranking due to torque converter installed incorrectly, the transmission was removed and torque converter got put into place, the shifter cable was undone while the car was in neutral, before any of this the car was fine so possibly transmission problems?
replace the driver's side master door switch. it'll include all the window switches and door locks (i think). Also, before that, you could pry that part up and check to make sure all harnesses are connected tight.
...just lube the rubber... It's trying to come up... Just press down, then chase it by quickly hitting up after... Hold down the up button half a sec longer than u hold down. Repeat
I’m looking at a p7b undercover. It’s in almost mint visual with 122k miles and unknown hours of operation. What kind of price range should this vehicle sell for
depends on what part of the country and what time of year. Right now with "tax season" upon us, prices go up a bit due to more folks buying cars. To buy and "flip" I usually won't pay more than $1,000, to buy and keep I'd want to spend less than $3,000 for it
Pretty basic - you have two architectures: 2006 - 2010 LX and 2011 and up LD Charger Lots of folks think they're largely the same, but they aren't. Common on the LX: - Built with cheap parts, particularly front suspension, suspension issues plagued these cars through mid - 2016. - '06/07 by far the worst.. - '08, new dash and electrical system. - '09 New Eagle 5.7 engine. 2.65 ratio std. Valve seat and timing chain issues through 2012. Lifter and cam issues through mid - 2016. Common LX points: - '11, cars are all new, stem to stern. A580 transmission now 100% US built (design rights acquired from ZF, most people think it was a MB assembly). - '12 column shift lever and door handles were issues - '14 AWD debuts in January of 2014. These are 2014 models, although some were labelled (erroneously) as '15 models. - '15 mid cycle refresh. New front clip, front door skins, and rear fascia. 5.7 received improved EVAP systems. - '16 several very important Pursuit changes, beginning in March of 2016: the 5.7 police engine gets slightly softer valvesprings, a harder camshaft, and improved lifters. These changes *eliminate* all previous problems. The 3.6 engine loses its FFV status. Front suspension durability *greatly* improved with solid bushings.
One problem I've run into with my Crown Vics is that the cup holder in one of them was removed to make room for police equipment. The center console I bought has cup holders, but now I don't have the cigarette lighter to power my mobile devices in the car. Looks like an easy fix, and I /think/ I found the right harness for connecting the cigarette lighter, but there are some other things spliced in now, so I don't know if I'll lose power to other accessories in the vehicle if I disconnect the harness to reconnect the cigarette lighter. In general, I can't tell exactly how the cup holder goes in either. On the plus side, I REALLY need to try that horn fix on my '07. Been driving us nuts for months.
cigarette lighter plugs are easy to install... I've got 2 in the rear seats for my kids to power/recharge their stuff. You should be able to disconnect the harness from the lighter plug and not mess up anything down line.
I have a 2010 pd model. The ac and heat blow perfectly along with the fan speeds just it only comes out of the vents. Could that be a fuse? Please contact me regarding this
my understanding is the blend door controls how hot or cold, not "where" the air blows from. Yes, the default on failure of the vacuum system is the defroster and not the dash vent, however it's possible that you don't have a total failure or perhaps someone rigged up a "fix" to make it blow from the vents.
Thank you so much. From what I read fuse#17 (10 amp) on Police models only-it states it controls the blend door operation on manual heating/a/c units so that was why I thought I'd ask if you thought that might be the case instead of a vacuum issue. I will try it tonight and let you know because if this is the case I'll be going to church and confession this weekend. :)
should be very easy... it's just a momentary switch (meaning connected only while pressing). The wires should already be there. If you get a Ford trunk pop switch it should just connect without any modification. If you buy just a generic switch you might have to run your own wire connectors (but I wouldn't cut any of the factory wires - just tap into them) Good luck!
I have a question my crown vic cluster goes out and comes back and then goes away, sometimes it will stay on other times it just doesn't even turn on and one more thing at night when I turn on my headlights the stereo lights come on and they go out for constantly happening is there a way to fix this?
Sounds like someone cut the wrong wires and then hastily spliced the headlight "on" wire to either your stereo "hot" or "accessory" wire. If it were me, I'd start with the simplest thing (like removing the stereo and checking all the wires there) rather than assuming I had to remove the entire dash. Hope that helps and good luck!
That's a somewhat common problem on the 06+ years. Its a loose solder connection behind the dash. There are Ebay vendors that will fix it for you but you have to ship it to them. There are YT videos for DIY too.
@@WJHandyDad yeah, man. Just the obd2 port and 2 inches of wires coming out of it. And I cant find any wires that should be running to it. Its pretty lame lol
I just got an 04 P71 and I have no brake lights. Tail lights work and the turn signals work, but no brake lights in the rear window either. Please help!
Thanks for the link, but I didn't find any cut wires around the switches on the brake pedal. The switch had power and worked. I assumed the lower switch(2004) was the brake switch. I couldn't get power at the fuse in the fuse box. There was no power in the trunk for the brake lights. The green and orange wire at the brake switch was also in the trunk. I removed the splices, but had no power at that wire. Stumped at this point. Any suggestions are appreciated.
most police cars have at least one or two cuts to the brake wires that would run out to a switch/relay and back (either for secure idle and/or for a dark taillight mode). When they decommissioned the car, it's possible (likely?) they didn't know what they doing and just started removing equipment and cutting wires. So unfortunately you may have to trace the wires around. My guess would be they are cut somewhere under the dash because secure idle and dark taillights would both be wired in the vicinity of the driver, rather than in the trunk. Good luck!
Thanks, I could use some luck. There is power to the brake switch and the wire after the switch isn't cut as far as I can see. It disappears over the main harness toward the fuse box. I've been thinking about cutting the wire after the switch and running it back to the tail lights with an inline fuse. The brake light wire is cut in the trunk, but it has no power whether the brake pedal is pushed or not. There are countless cut wires in the trunk and some are hot. We saw sparks when we pulled back the trunk liner. The tail light housings have been modified for a strobe lights. There still is a computer attached behind the spate tire with cut wiring all over. the passenger side under the glove box is a nest of cut wiring and so is the wiring harness for the headlights. The car has no high beams and the horn is dead too, but these brake lights are my 1st concern.
Found the cut and spliced wires in my crown vic for the brake lights and horn behind the panel that houses the hood release. The the 3rd brake light was cut under the front passenger door step panel. The high beam wires were cut at the headlights. Ended up pulling out an apple box full of wiring and tried to hide the rest.
I just got a PI Ford crown vic 1998. The vehicle stalls out or wont start. I think the inertia switch in trunk is bad. The fuel pump may be broken too. The vehicle ran then started to shut down 10-15min after starting.
my first thought is definitely fuel pump - whether it's the pump itself or just the inertia switch would require testing the fuel pressure or bypassing the inertia switch TEMPORARILY
Last night I open the back door and all my lights when on. I don't know why. The key were at the ignition. Can someone knows something about it?? Please I would like to know. . My car is a 2009 crown Victoria Police interceptor
not sure what you mean by "all my lights" but I'm assuming you mean headlights and everything else. When you open a door, there is a "door switch" that tells the car the door is open (I can't remember, but I think it's a ground). It sounds like there is a short somewhere in your wiring so that it's triggering the LCM to turn on lights. I'd start by tracing the wires near the LCM and work back. I would think most likely the problem is near the LCM rather than in the door.
Head to Pull-A-Part & grab a center console out of a 02-05 Explorer. Or you can purchase a new one for a Jeep Wrangler off of some website...I don't recall which one...it's an aftermarket console, not factory, for $60 or $70.
it's probably cut somewhere. If you know how to do continuity tests with a multimeter, check for continuity under the dash to the horn, and under the dash back toward the steering wheel. If you have continuity both directions then you can rule out cut wires and start looking at power issues. Good luck!
I'd look at the easy and obvious places - most likely it was cut somewhere easy to access - near the switch, under the glove box, or at one of the foot "kick panels."
On the back doors some just flip the child safety switch on the door its self. Also just a little uncommonly known piece of information, not all CVPIs were P71 (93-09) or P7B (2010-2011), there was a P72 for one year only which was the first year of the arrow body which was in 1992. It had a few differences then the 93.
At first i'm german so sorry for my bad english I have the problem that the car battery get's amty every time the car not get moved for some days when this is importent it is a original police interceptor with siren and all this stuff please when you know something that can help say it and thanks
if your battery is running down every couple days of sitting, it's probably time to replace it. But in between days of driving, if your car is sitting, I recommend hooking up one of these to keep the battery good: www.harborfreight.com/automatic-battery-float-charger-42292.html
My horn was disconnected and had speaker wires run to both ends, reconnected and the damn thing still won't honk. I'll check the fuse but more than likely, they had fun with it ha ha.
Two most likely places to check are behind the stereo and at the speakers. If everything is intact, run a continuity test on the wires to see if they are cut between. Then track down the cut.
I have a rectangular hole mid ceiling. Not the cvpi dome light. I'm wondering what it was. Can't find anything on Google but have seen the same hole on Canadian RCMP cruisers
How are these babies in the snow? I live in NYC and surprisingly I've seen two crown vics(one matte gray and another all black) parked in my neighborhood and the only thing keeping me from buying one is the fact that I'm a bitch about the snow(even though it doesn't snow like crazy here). 🤣
I live in Texas so driving in snow never happens for me (the very rare time it snows the whole state shuts down). Hopefully some of our viewers can answer your question.

My P7B did not come with a interior ceiling light but there was a connector that was left in place. Any ideas what light will fit this connector? picture here: imgur.com/a/kq9sL
Muldoonite you could get one from a junkyard for 20 bucks probably and see if it would fit for a ceiling light if the pigtail is stamped with ford or you could had a fire suppression system installed like mine but they took that plate out or even a map light was installed.
I have videos taking apart the door, removing the window, window motor, and regulator. Once you've done that you can pretty much clean away and re-lubricate all the moving parts. Should make a huge difference and make the windows go up and down "like new"
Yes, WJ Handy Dad- I have a question. please don't be offended-i have a 2003 crown Vic police interceptor and horn doesn't work. how come no 1 does video on how to fix horn on this model 🤔 ? I can send you a pic of my steering wheel setup if needed. maybe you can address this in a future video 🤔 ?
I had a 2003 with no horn. The part of this video that shows me splicing the wire under the dash was me fixing the horn. It was literally that simple, just reconnect the horn wire where they cut it. It's always possible that you have a bad horn, a bad clockspring, or something else, but those are far less likely problems than just a cut wire.
That map/ticket writing light up front. Doesn't bother me too much, but I haven't had a vic where it does work. Just a useless, ugly thing on the ceiling.
Remove ticket light, rewire a map light from a 94-96 Lincoln town car into the rectangle hole in headliner..... will need to use a dremel tool to make the hole a little bigger. Just push it in and it will stay in place. 1990-1994 Lincoln Town Car OEM map dome light assembly =www.ebay.com/itm/1990-1994-Lincoln-Town-Car-OEM-map-dome-light-assembly/253805093965?hash=item3b17f6644d%3Ag%3AIpYAAOSwNDdba6vv%3Asc%3AUSPSPriority%2164155%21US%21-1&fits=Year%3A1994%7CModel%3ATown+Car%7CMake%3ALincoln OR www.ebay.com/itm/1994-Lincoln-Town-Car-Rear-Overhead-Dome-Map-Reading-Light-Maroon/273179206300?fits=Year%3A1995%7CModel%3ATown+Car&hash=item3f9abfe29c:g:fukAAOSwaZFa4UZK:rk:5:pf:0&vxp=mtr
Very helpful. Discovered problems I didnt know I had
hopefully you can fix them all easily
Good job... what minivan (year, make, model) headliner did you use?
It was a Dodge Caravan but I don't know the year, probably late 2000's, or model. I just looked around at every thing in the pick a part until I found one I liked. Took some doing to mount it but it looks pretty good.
can you send some pics of the head console? Im currently figuring out what I want to do with that. I really want to get the police security camera overhead console. haha way to expensive.
Thanks for the great video. You answered a lot of my questions. I just bought the Walmart special console 3 days ago and I am pleased with it.
Great video, I forgot a lot of these details.
To disable dark mode on the newer Crown Victoria, there is a great tool called Forscan that you can use with a $30 adapter. This will allow you to disable dark mode in the module and also change a bunch of other options available. I have a 09 P71 and I was able to enable remote keyless entry using Forscan.
Do you have a video on how to connect the wires, to turn on the interior light when opening a door?
th-cam.com/video/j778BuzOwQg/w-d-xo.html
Glad I was able to help
i actually like dark mode
A lot of people do. Me personally I like the inside to light up like a Christmas tree when I open a door :)
@@WJHandyDad For me - no way.
I would prefer that I get into the car darkly and then have a switch on the dash or that consul that I instal to turn on the inside lights.
you can install an on/off switch in the system to do that if you like it dark
@Social Outcast no, Light Lives Matter!
Definitely helpful, thanks alot!
I just bought one of these
What issues did u have?
I solved the dark mode by going to the junk yard and take a interior light module from a non police crown vic and installing it into mine. Lights comes on when I open the door and turn off when I close the door.
Rear windows roll down from rear switch but not drivers switch any ideas? An mine was a k9 unit it has door poppers in rear do they make a universal remote for those
my guess is either bad switch at the driver door or a cut wire somewhere. I have a video on testing the switch... you'd need to modify the test to check for power to the rear though
I bought a center console from auto zone for it and fit perfectly and tight
Thanks for the info!
Good luck!
WJ Handy Dad ok thank you very much
let us know what you find
problems i have. great video. how about odometer not working
I had the same issue. I fixed mine by replacing a blown fuse by the driver door
Yeah, I've been lucky all my high beams have been reconnected, but you're right, all of them have been cut at one point due to police flashers.
Hi I'm a first time car owner of a crown vic there a small black box under my hood what was it use for??? And can it be reconnected?
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
I love dark mode but sometimes it comes on if i slam the trunk but for now i will just use the other light when i need light
Helpful video- thanks. Own a Canadian CVIP- it's the same. Sissy ass metric speedo and odo is the only difference I can see.
Agreed on the metric speedo - just got a 2010 cvip. The odo however is digital and gives you a readout in either miles or kms
My 2010 CVPI the rear brake lights are stuck on and the car is parked not running? Any advice ? Thanks
sounds like faulty brake switch or the wiring got hooked up incorrectly when they decommissioned the car... that's where I'd start checking first - it's right above the brake pedal
If you install the 16" rims from a 2001 p71 on the newer (mine is 2008) models, it gives the car a better stance, as the offset is different, it looks better, and the handling difference...Wow.
keep in mind, some of those 16" wheels were recalled
Oh. I did not know that!
News at 11.
No back up lights 2010 cop car bulbs good ?
are they LED? If so, try flipping them in the socket. If that doesn't fix it it's probably a cut wire somewhere. Police departments are famous for cutting wires.
@@WJHandyDad not LEDs will check for cut wires thank you
@@jj-eo7bj good luck... sometimes tracking that stuff down can be annoying
This will be evident by the splices in the harnesses leading to each headlight. .10 years ago a new lighting control module was $200 from the stealership( which i needed some time to save up for ) so in the interum i mounted some $20 fog lights on the pushbumper and a rocker switch on the dash next to the factory switch so when the mains went out i could still see where the fuck i was going. .This was an '03 and the lcm was behind the dash near the steering column , took a minute to replace.
some folks got a Ford recall on their LCM. Thank you for sharing your tip.
I hooked up a direct switch from fuse box to lights
I had a recall on a 03 for that issue
Can you blow a fuse for your traction control?
Hopefully some of the other viewers of this channel can chime in with some thoughts and suggestions. good luck!
My headlights stay on when i switch them off and my spotlight wont move up and down how do i fix
WJ Handy Dad , yup, I need to find thouse wires...
What's the extra switch that you installed on the rear door?
it turns on a "reading light" above the rear seat passenger... one on each side
I probably need to do a specific video because several have asked about them.
how can you make the dinger sound turn off or siconnect it. they disabled the passenger air bag and it dings 5 times for 5 times in a row, and i wanna disconnect it.
haskell warrior so that's why I hear 5 dinging sounds all the time and I want to get rid of that sound. It's irritating my brain.
Man, I had an 04 that did that. Sometimes the entire trip, sometimes not at all. most annoying thing ever.
Richard Beyer same here it comes and goes but other than that I like my crown Victoria p71
Check your seat buckle sometimes the sensor in it gets a broke wire or disconnected.
How do you have your center console set up? Seen that same one at Walmart but from what I've heard, there's no mounting brackets included.
it's a pretty good squeeze just between the seats.
I have a 2000 crown vic lx with an intermittent horn. it would work for month then stop then start after a week, I replaced the relay. this has been going on for years any suggestions, Thanks
did you locate where they cut the wire? Sounds like maybe it isn't fully spliced back together
You can find the module under the steering wheel. Where the chime sound comes from
How about battery light stays on. Even after replacing alternator.
test with a voltmeter and see if you're getting ~14.4 volts when the vehicle is running, make sure all cables are tight, belt isn't slipping. It's possible you got a bad alternator but also possible it's just a loose cable somewhere or bad belt. good luck!
I was hoping you would say something about AC/heat, mine is wacked. Heat kicks in and out while driving and only work on two highest settings
I've been lucky so far, no issues related to climate controls
My turn signals work fine, but the dash works intermittently. Comes on and stays on for hours and is dead for hours. 2008 Cpvi. Any ideas?
common failure of the digital odometer! on eBay u will find an remanufactured Odometer for nearly 100 bucks. its very simple to change the odometer. 30min work. search on YT
what do u know about the trunk wiring? I have a p71 and they cut all the wires
I figured out for the signal lights, but I still have no reverse lights or trunk release..
there are pass throughs on both driver and passenger side. You'll need to find where the wires are cut and just reconnect them. Most likely they are cut at an accessible location rather than at a hidden location. Sounds like a careless "downfitter"
WJ Handy Dad , I found some blue and green wires that say "reverse" on them, I am lost as to what they connect to.
That's the problem I'm haven't now with My dome light... Can someone help me
I have a video on fixing or working around "dark mode"
May I ask what stereo you put in that particular Crown Victoria in the video? I just purchased one with only a radio and I am looking for a stereo with a CD and a usb auxiliary port. Thank you for the super useful video!
it was an Amaseaudio 10.1 off of Amazon, but says it's "currently unavailable"
WJ Handy Dad thanks anyways, please keep making awesome videos :)
just search double DIN stereos on Amazon - that's how I found the one I wanted
My crown vic turns off the headlights when you turn on the high beams. Do you know a fix For that?
look for a cut wire
Hey, I just picked up a 08 CVPI. I having difficulty with the radio, no power it's not turning on?
blown fuse or cut wire are your most likely culprits
@@WJHandyDad Do you any videos on that solution? Do you have any idea which fuse? Please help.
fuse #9 (under the steering wheel/behind the parking brake release) is for the "radio" and #12 is for "audio"
@@WJHandyDad okay, just now seeing this post. All the fuses were good. I took my radio out with a removal tool, find my connection was unplugged. That's why I wasn't receiving power. I'm not receiving radio stations signal just static, could you help me out?
If the radio itself was unplugged, did they also unplug the antenna?
What about getting the door to lock and unlock with the switch? It lights up but just doesn’t work I even tried to swap it out. What could be the problem & how to fix it.
gonna need a multimeter and start checking for power in various places and what happens when you press lock and when you press unlock. Sounds like no power to the actual switch but you'll need to verify with a multimeter and then figure out why no power (blown fuse or cut wire the 2 most likely issues)
What about the radio not working?
Mine was missing fuse
I have a 2011 cvpi. My dome lights only come one when the rear drivers side and passenger doors are opened. When I open the front two doors nothing happens. Also, if I turn my car off, leave the headlights on and open the door it does not chime. (The same can be said when my key is in the ignition and the door is open.) do you have any idea why this is happening?
it sounds like they disabled the door "switch" that tells the car that a front door is opened.
Cool
I have a 07, where is the switch to turn off the passenger airbag?
I think you answered your own question... most likely related to the transmission removal
I just got a crown Vic and the front driver side window go down but won't go up sometimes it does if you mess with it
replace the driver's side master door switch. it'll include all the window switches and door locks (i think).
What kind of price range should this vehicle sell for
It also comes from a very small town. That’s why I’m concerned about the miles
depends on what part of the country and what time of year. Right now with "tax season" upon us, prices go up a bit due to more folks buying cars. To buy and "flip" I usually won't pay more than $1,000, to buy and keep I'd want to spend less than $3,000 for it
Try kbb.com
can you please do the same video with the Dodge charger you have .
Rob Vermeulen I have a 06 Pursuit and an 03 P71. That would be great if he did one of these for the Pursuit. I love your videos, W+Js Handy Dad!!
Pretty basic - you have two architectures: 2006 - 2010 LX and 2011 and up LD Charger Lots of folks think they're largely the same, but they aren't.
Common on the LX:
- Built with cheap parts, particularly front suspension, suspension issues plagued these cars through mid - 2016.
- '06/07 by far the worst..
- '08, new dash and electrical system.
- '09 New Eagle 5.7 engine. 2.65 ratio std. Valve seat and timing chain issues through 2012. Lifter and cam issues through mid - 2016.
Common LX points:
- '11, cars are all new, stem to stern. A580 transmission now 100% US built (design rights acquired from ZF, most people think it was a MB assembly).
- '12 column shift lever and door handles were issues
- '14 AWD debuts in January of 2014.
Awesome! Thanks for the pointers.
Any idea on what color wire I'd be looking for on '07 cig lighter ? I've got a bundle of cut wires right there.
Mine has another one by the ashtray. It's way up under there take a look you may have 2 as well
I have a 2010 pd model. The ac and heat blow perfectly along with the fan speeds just it only comes out of the vents. Could that be a fuse? Please contact me regarding this
sounds like a vacuum issue... "where" the air blows from is controlled by vacuum
your "blend door" has quit working. Search for videos to fix that.
my understanding is the blend door controls how hot or cold, not "where" the air blows from.
I hope that's all it is! Good luck!!
My p71 doesn't have the trunk button anywhere. How hard is it to run a new button?
should be very easy... it's just a momentary switch (meaning connected only while pressing). The wires should already be there. If you get a Ford trunk pop switch it should just connect without any modification. If you buy just a generic switch you might have to run your own wire connectors (but I wouldn't cut any of the factory wires - just tap into them) Good luck!
Head lights not coming on
yeah, that's a good one that I forgot! Assuming it's not a bad LCM, it probably has to do with cut wires when they removed the police equipment.
Alright, bro thanx one more thing can you show us how to remove the fuel pump on a ford crown vic?
That's a somewhat common problem on the 06+ years. Its a loose solder connection behind the dash. There are Ebay vendors that will fix it for you but you have to ship it to them. There are YT videos for DIY too.
Are there any videos online to fix it?
WJ Handy Dad will you show us how to replace the fuel pump? please reply to this if you can
Went to get my 07 p71 smogged and the pd straight up cut the obd2 port wires off the harness. Now ggotta figure that out lol
Wow that's crazy... definitely one of the craziest things I've heard being cut out
@@WJHandyDad yeah, man. Just the obd2 port and 2 inches of wires coming out of it. And I cant find any wires that should be running to it. Its pretty lame lol
I had a cvpi taxi with no way to lock back doors. A simple harness was disconnected in the pillar behind the front driver's door
I just got an 04 P71 and I have no brake lights. Tail lights work and the turn signals work, but no brake lights in the rear window either. Please help!
probably cut wires at the brake switch... th-cam.com/video/Cpub0DXasi0/w-d-xo.htmlm33s
Bad ass video
Transmission?
What's the smoke detector looking thing?
at 4:54 of the video? That's the ticket light. If you are referring to a different part, let me know.
I'm really happy with the $30 Wal Mart console I put in, but yours are also good suggestions for someone wanting to spend a bit more
Horn dead. No cut wire on my 2010 P7B under the glove box. Still searching for the problem.
it's probably cut somewhere. If you know how to do continuity tests with a multimeter, check for continuity under the dash to the horn, and under the dash back toward the steering wheel. If you have continuity both directions then you can rule out cut wires and start looking at power issues. Good luck!
Fuse.. Or bad connector 🔌
My passenger side front door window has no power to the switch.
probably a cut wire
I’m terrible at tracing wires. I’ll have a buddy look at it
I'd look at the easy and obvious places - most likely it was cut somewhere easy to access - near the switch, under the glove box, or at one of the foot "kick panels."
Any solution yet? I have the same problem.
My front speakers are not working.HELP.
what happened right before they stopped working?
WJ Handy Dad Thanks for responding. Oh, they didn’t work when I got the car. Idk if they cut some wires for a reason or something.
Two most likely places to check are behind the stereo and at the speakers. If everything is intact, run a continuity test on the wires to see if they are cut between. Then track down the cut.
WJ Handy Dad Will do that then. Thanks Dad!!
Spark plugs and coil packs
@Social Outcast yes honestly I would go ahead and change them all cause if one is bad it causes the rest of them to go bad
What about the anti theft system
03 crown vic
The odometer light works when it wants to in my car.
Mileage on instrument panel dark most of time.. Help
mine is getting that way slowly... I'll shoot a video when mine goes dark... gonna require soldering I believe
dark mode you have to connect blue wire.
Thank you, I couldn't remember which was which
I have a rectangular hole mid ceiling. Not the cvpi dome light. I'm wondering what it was. Can't find anything on Google but have seen the same hole on Canadian RCMP cruisers
Toward the windshield? Did you have fire suppression that was removed?
How are these babies in the snow? I live in NYC and surprisingly I've seen two crown vics(one matte gray and another all black) parked in my neighborhood and the only thing keeping me from buying one is the fact that I'm a bitch about the snow(even though it doesn't snow like crazy here). 🤣
I live in Texas so driving in snow never happens for me (the very rare time it snows the whole state shuts down). Hopefully some of our viewers can answer your question.
I’m late to the party but I disabled dark mode with FORScan
I believe that works for 2006-2011 models only
So I see the picture of the Police Interceptor badge on you video description, is having that badge illegal?
that is going to vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction
What does the wrench symbol mean
According to Ford it is a powertrain malfunction indicator. They don't give much else, just says to contact authorized dealer as soon as possible.
my ignition wont start car nothing happens by pass relay car stars runs good what the problem
Remove ticket light, rewire a map light from a 94-96 Lincoln town car into the rectangle hole in headliner..... will need to use a dremel tool to make the hole a little bigger. Took it to dealership they fixed the recall lcm for headlights and now the marker lights and tail lights will turn off and on car is an 03
take it back... sounds like they didn't fix it right or the part they used already failed
What is causing my tail lights and front marker lights to shut off at random, I can hear something click under the dash when they go out
probably lighting control module (LCM). Depending on the year of your car, it may be under recall.
Break lights
My P7B did not come with a interior ceiling light but there was a connector that was left in place. Any ideas what light will fit this connector? picture here: imgur.com/a/kq9sL
Muldoonite you could get one from a junkyard for 20 bucks probably and see if it would fit for a ceiling light if the pigtail is stamped with ford or you could had a fire suppression system installed like mine but they took that plate out or even a map light was installed.
Interesting, I'll check that out. Thanks.
I went to junkyard and found my ticket light replacement. You can also buy them online.
Thanks!
My windows are gummy as hell. I need to take the doors apart and try lube them.
I have videos taking apart the door, removing the window, window motor, and regulator. Once you've done that you can pretty much clean away and re-lubricate all the moving parts. Should make a huge difference and make the windows go up and down "like new"
Thank you for the help
Yes, WJ Handy Dad- I have a question. please don't be offended-i have a 2003 crown Vic police interceptor and horn doesn't work. how come no 1 does video on how to fix horn on this model 🤔 ? I can send you a pic of my steering wheel setup if needed. maybe you can address this in a future video 🤔 ?
I had a 2003 with no horn. The part of this video that shows me splicing the wire under the dash was me fixing the horn. It was literally that simple, just reconnect the horn wire where they cut it. It's always possible that you have a bad horn, a bad clockspring, or something else, but those are far less likely problems than just a cut wire.
jacob allart jr of a
Also that console is made in the USA!!
That map/ticket writing light up front. Doesn't bother me too much, but I haven't had a vic where it does work. Just a useless, ugly thing on the ceiling.
