      Stephen Williams nice man! I would say good luck, but u won't really need it. I have a town car with 225k miles running like new, only had oil changes, 1 battery, and a few tires lol. the more u burn the rubber the more u pay for tires lol. these cars are bulletproof bro, and I wish u a happy time with the car. I have seen crown vic and town cars running upwards of 750k miles on original motor and tranny running like new, and these cars were abused in the livery force.

    • @cpttacoman9909
      @cpttacoman9909 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's why they discontinued them and went with the Taurus design, more costly to fix and have more computers thus the cost in repairs. Ford isn't stupid enough to keep producing a long lasting and super simple car like the Crown Vic anymore cuz they never really break down, and even when they do they're stuuuppppiiid easy to work on and modify.

    It was a sad day when Ford quit building the Crown Vic. It was in production for so long, with only minor tweaks that the "bugs" had all been worked out, leaving what was likely the most reliable vehicle you could purchase. Replacement parts cheap because of sheer number on the road, many for hundreds of thousands of miles. And easy to work on. (comparatively) So naturally they had to quit building it. Wish I could find a low mileage, low hour Vic cheap. They are no more. The words out, so "cheap" is no longer in the cards.

    Baltimore City Police Crown Vics came delivered with the optional ballistic shield installed in both front doors. It even says "Ballistic Shield" on the interior door trim panels. Baltimore is pretty much filled with criminals, thugs & low-life assholes. I live in A nice part of Baltimore County. I never go into the city unless it is absolutely necessary. My older was a Baltimore City Police Officer for 30 years & he's told me stories over the years that would blow your mind. Crazy people in this world to make it necessary for a Police Officer to have to have bullet proof doors on their cars.

    The only things I can think of that were extras (although you did put 10 different items in the video so you technically couldn't have forgotten anything) was was that the front brakes on the P71 are larger diameter and larger calipers than then a civilian car (the rears are the same size as civilian car)
    The speedometer as you know is a certified calibration unit which means it is more accurate throughout the the lower speeds to higher speeds than a standard a speedometer in a civilian car.
    Although the engine and transmissions themselves are practically identical to a civilian model, the PCM and ECU computers have been calibrated specifically for police use which means higher and firmer shift points, higher rev limiters? and higher speed limiters.(fun fact a lot of people aren't aware of?
    P71 will do 60mph in reverse!🤪)
    Throughout the entire vehicle a P71
    may have metal blocker plates covering the holes in the trunk lid just inboard of the backup light housings( I'm not exactly sure why yet but I've seen it on several P71s
    but never on a civilian model.🤷‍♂️)
    One other thing that a lot of people don't realize other than the car being wired for options that might not be ordered in each vehicle is that although there's only technically the 6 gauges on the instrument cluster,usually there are about 20 different sensors that can be accessed via the OBD2 plug under the dashboard with a tuner or blue Bluetooth activated device that is designed to display all these sensors throughout the body control /engine management system(s)

    The idle hours x road hours was just for a maitence schedule for fluid and filters etc, no one seriously believed it was equivalent as road hours which wore brakes, tires, transmission, etc etc.
    idling only wore on the engine, and primarily the largest risk was over heating because liquid cooled engines are made to have air flow heat transfer over the radiator. Hence sitting idle has no real movement of air.

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      as I understand it, some model years had governors but much higher speed than the civilian models and some were limited lower than 140 because of the belief that the drive shaft couldn't handle more than 129mph

      Constitutional Bowsers please dont be a youtube comando. retired cars are not detuned. the tune as you call is is a file that is VIN specific from ford. there is no standard tune as they are all specific per VIN and options. It requires a ford IDS or a J2534 programmer to change the tune with a subscription from ford to program or change user selectable options (like turning cruise control on or off, Daytime running lights, police dark mode) depending on model years. You cannot modify the tune unless you purchase a program like HP Tuners and you have the knowledge to change things like timing and fuel curves. I own several P71's, have worked and currently do work on patrol cars and dont need any manager access to tunes. if you had a P71 and needed to replace the PCM i can easily program it to the factory tune no different than anyone else with the proper equipment.
