lot of amc people wonder if you even knew the whole story before you did that episode.
you fixed up a car for a family of greedy people.
his father was out of his mind with his pricing, and he let those cars rot in place.
i was there in the 90s and met the old man,he was pricing his cars in the Stratosphere.
son never did anything either, and at the Same time i personally was saving amc cars and getting them Back out on the road.
basically, doing the same thing you do now,on vid.
so,you did all that work, for a whole family who wouldnt do Anything to Save the cars they let rot away.
their only claim to fame has been that they were the last dealership, thats it.
what they did with the cars should be a crime.
Love your show Derek, but this one really hit a personal nerve.
next time, maybe research your topics before you do something for someone who doesnt deserve it....at all.

No check the truck no spinning the crank by hand just give it the beans who cares if the flywheel explodes. And a all new braking system wth is going on. Pretty sure u had gears and maybe even Flintstone brakes if needed. New brakes a feller can't believe it.

Only story here is your talent being edited to mediocrity. Hope the dollar is worth it and that it facilitates more VGG content. VGG is where the original fans are. Who is representing your magic (magicals to the initiated) with this platform?

  • @billydotcom9612

Derek and VGG is some of the best content out there. These episodes are fun, but way too condensed. A fella (ette) wants to see the progress, not a cut scene to a running vehicle.

Even the last episode was cut up too much and it was titled full episode. MT really drains the magic Derrick creates with VGG. But by now, we all know MT lost interest in great content are more focused on the cash now...

I love watching Derek's videos but you can't boil it down to a 10 minute highlight reel. I know this isn't VGG but what makes his content so good is that he takes you along on the journey and you get invested in it while watching. He's always teaching you something which just adds to the enjoyment.

Derek's the bestest , but 10 min? That's like one spoon of ice cream, or one potato chip, or one bite of pizza. Just like watching Derek, I could make these analogies all day, folks.
Edit, hrs later: Oh, I see that the Roadworthy Rescues cost $3 each or $15 for all 8, so this is meant to be an
amuse bouche (a tantalizing appetizer)...however, I frankly feel the 43 min versions are too short, as well! I just don't feel as invested in every step of the process in those, either.

I just hope he keeps his TH-cam channel becuase I don't see this lasting. We want hour long vid's that playin the background while we work... we want our buddy Derek in the background throughout the day... not just a few minutes here and there.

YEARS AGO, I bought a Jeep CJ7 with a basketcase engine. The engine was
not repairable so I set out in search of a used engine. I looked high & I looked
low. I looked to the east & I looked to the west but no luck. Finally, one day I
got another lead on a CJ7 in a wrecking yard & went to find it was the wrong
engine. At the end of my rope, I stood in the wrecking yard wondering
what my next move might be, I happen to notice parked next to the Jeep was
AMC Ambasador. I popped the hood & FOUND GOLD!!! The exact engine I had
been searching for!! My Jeep was an AMC Jeep. So I pulled the AMC engine,
took it home, rebuilt it & it powered my Jeep for 14 years until I sold it.

Derek, Thank You for posting this video... it brought back the memory of the "Rebel SST' that I once owned (well, in truth, the Bank actually owned it). In the late Spring of 1968, I bought a new 'leftover ' 1967 Rambler Rebel SST two-door hardtop from "Rambler City" in San Jose, CA. It was white with a red interior, with the 290 V-8 and automatic transmission. In August of that year, I left the car after it rolled over down a hillside in eastern Oregon, after my fiancé (who is now my wife of 52 years) lost control of the car in a very nasty, wicked left turn on HWY 95 just east of Jordan Valley, Oregon. We were on our way to Idaho to get married, or so we thought.
We wound up taking the Greyhound bus from Caldwell, Idaho back home to San Jose, CA as the roll over proved to be fatal to the 'Rebel'. The last time that I saw it (through the Greyhound bus window), it was laying in front of a junkyard / towing business somewhere along HWY 95 , near to scene of the accident. All that I have left of the car are the memories and two photos that were taken when I owned it.🤥

    • @waynekaminski5438
      @waynekaminski5438 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Well, you survived what could have been a fatal accident, and you have been married 55 years, so I would say that is a fair trade for the 1967 Rebel SST.

Vice Grip..Derek if you’re reading these comments……RUN! You are WAY to good of a man and professional to be leashed like this. You’re family, your business and your great attitude with your fan base wants to see you love what you do and NOT be a chopped up version of what the camera sees. Raise your boys right and NOT bask in the limelight. MOTORTREND hurts that philosophy more so than it pursues the family life! I’ll be posting on the VGG TH-cam the same comments.

I believe 1967 was the only year the Rebel had "Rambler " badges. Another way to identify this as a 1967 is the lack of side marker lights; they became mandatory for 1968. The Rebel was replaced in 1971 by the Matador, which used the same body as the 1970 Rebel

I bought a red 1974 AMC Matador off a used car lot in 1979 for $1000.00. Drove the car to St. Louis for a summer internship with Monsanto, drove all over the St. Louis area, then drove back to UNL (University of Nebraska-Lincoln) where I entered a Master's program. Finished my thesis and defended it in Jan. 1981. too late to graduate in Dec. 1980, instead graduated in May 1981. Got a job out in SF, CA starting Feb. 2, 1981, so I drove the Matador out to CA as my daily driver. Drove the car all over including many weekend trips to South Lake Tahoe for snow skiing and other late-night shenanigans. The car was nicknamed the Red Shark. Transferred to Pascagoula MS in May 1982, and drove from CA to MS in the Matador. Unfortunately, the numerous rainstorms and humidity were not to the car's liking, and I got tired of the car cutting out and having a hard time restarting. So, in December 1982, I traded the Matador in for a new 1982 Honda Accord. I ended up totaling the Accord in a bad accident in April 1984. I then purchased a new 1984 Ford Bronco II, transferred back to the SF/Bay Area in Dec. 1984 just in time for another Squaw Valley ski season. I drove the Bronco to Squaw Valley every weekend to ski during winter/spring of 1985 and had the Bronco II until 1987. That 1974 AMC Matador has plenty of power and was a reliable car for me from 1979 to 1982 until I relocated to the Deep South. Here is a tip, don't move to Deep South/Gulf Coast if you can't handle humidity and heat, or learn to adapt by acclimating yourself to the heat and humidity by going out water skiing practically every weekend.

I don't think you understand what this really means for VGG.
It means less videos, less personality, and less "Derek" content per video.

I started driving for UPS in ‘85 and often ran the route in Pikeville for several years. Collier Motors was in a lot better shape then than it is now and the senior Mr. Collier was still alive. Hate that all of those cars that were still in great shape back then have sat and turned into piles of rust.

Hey, Motor trend, Derek and his backyard down home folksy shtick along with his knowledge of cars is the best thing you got going, so what's with the toned down version and short content? Happy that you've given him a larger platform, but give us more of the Derek we love, in other words don't try to fix what ain't broke...new viewers will love him, too!

Let Derek do his thing here, and that is showing MOST of the rescue, revive and revitalizinatin'-so-it-can-drive process with his educational and humorous explanations and commentary.
