The guy sold this smoke and mirrors job to the one guy that was actually going to drive it. If he sold this to a regular collector, none of this would have come up.
Possibly but it’s not really a collector car anymore with all the modifications. It’s now a drivers car which is why the last guy dumped and possibly the guy who built it. This to me is a catalog car that someone fixed the body and bought a bunch of cool parts from the catalogs because he read about them in hotrod or from a TV show but really didn’t know how to make it all work together so they dumped it at auction. The next buyer couldn’t figure it out so he dumped it at auction. Had some other regular non TH-camr bought it the car probably would not have been fixed either and sold again. At least it’s getting fixed and someday driven.
The average price for a Hemi Superbird is around $250K with auction prices ranging from $300K-$1M. So buying one for half the price should ring every bell and raise every red flag.
It was raced competitively, t-boned, rebought (returned to the seller after the sale for some reason), resto-modded, engine swapped - to a different type of engine than the original too... plenty to bring the price down to 'dirt cheap' (for the model). It fooled him, it would probably have gotten me too.
The seller was probably nervous and sweating seeing that Tyler Hoover was the winning bidder…realizing that EVERY issue with the car would be all over TH-cam
Based on what Tyler tells us all in this video the seller shouldnt have been nervous but laughing because he knew he had a sucker on the way to pick it up. Invest in a magnet, NEVER buy a car sight unseen online and take an expert on that car with you to inspect it. Richard Rawlings KNOWS how to flip cars and NEVER has to ask his wife if he can buy it.
Tyler didn't even name it in the video, and he made 130K over a shitty car. Actually he's probably showing this vid to his buddies and laughing their asses off.
12:13 the BIGGEST flaw i see with that car, is that wonk ass stereo who in their RIGHT MIND restores a car, or atleast tries/claims to restore a car, but then puts some crap like that in it like yeah sure the original might have less accessibility for modern things, but that just ruins the whole originality of the interior
From my experience, people who compulsory collect muscle cars all have cars like this. The person who bought my dad’s triple black ‘68 charger 318 dropped in a hemi crate motor, and then parked it with the rest of his 50+ cars. It will never be driven maybe ever again, but it looks pretty and it has a hemi. These people are just another breed.
People who look at muscle cars as a status symbol are the furthest thing possible from actual car people. They should be driven regularly and driven hard and if you can't handle that then you shouldn't own one.
@@Sheehy223 That's just your perception of things and is not an absolute truth. Your wants and needs and fun =/= someone else's. Keep that in mind when you judge other people.
@@Whirrun But do keep in mind, it is better for the car’s condition overall that they be used routinely. Just letting them sit does cause several parts to rot and cause for a lengthy restoration should another person acquire the car and want to use it.
@Curtis Lovrak .... you kinda highlight something that has been on many of my friends' minds, but even my own. For instance I often get bothered by strange folks telling me to V8 my Gremlin. Why? It runs great, it's plenty spunky. What more do I need? I've also taken a lot of flack for putting the V6 BACK IN my little '88 Ram. What's the big deal? I already have fast cars. I don't need a fast, gas guzzling truck! And this sort of highlights.... that NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE FAST! 99% of us just take our cars to shows or parades. Very few of us actually drag race them. And besides.... when gas prices skyrocket - what's the first thing to get parked??? The car with the big, honkin' engine. My little red truck has a funny story. It was bought by a friend, the V6 pulled out and a 440 stuffed in. Then along came another really cool car that would've been amazing with a 440, so the engine came out of the truck and into that project. So the truck sat for 5 years, with no engine. I bought it and stuffed the V6 back in. In the same amount of time, the same buddy who bought the little red truck originally found one we call "Beige Lightning" because it has a 318. He was going to 440 *THAT* truck only to have the same epiphany I've had. "Why does it need to be fast?" So, he's going to put a 4-barrel on the 318, maybe upgrade the ignition and add twice pipes and then JUST DRIVE IT. Who cares if it's a lowly 318? It's plenty spunky, will return double-digit fuel mileage numbers and it's friggin' cool just as it is. And the funny thing is that nowadays, Millennials who want classic cars are now buying the pedestrian 6-cylinder or small V8 cars. They don't care about speed. They just want the style. And t'ain't nuthing wrong with 'dat!
makes you wonder what kind of financial world we live in that people are willing to write a $140G check off of pictures, I guess he really wanted it that bad. I guess money means too much to me. The part that gets me is what is a Superbird really worth without the original engine? I've never wanted a rolling cartoon to drive around town in so I guess i'll never find out.
@@jefffaller8474 years ago i was messing around on ebay and found a rusted shell of one of these for sale ....it sold for 104k no motor no trans no interior, just a rusted to hell shell.
@@jefffaller8474 Even more, a reasonably comparable example sold for about a million. Our world is such that a $130k hooptie may be a great investment.
This actually makes me so happy that a person who will pay 130 grand for an unknown car is proof that having money doesn't mean that people have sense.
I'm probably the only person on the planet who's TOO honest when I sell shit. I've fucked myself over many times by telling people every single thing that's wrong with whatever I'm selling. And at the same time, I've been ripped off just about every time I've bought something from someone else. Where the hell is the karma at?
Same lol, traded a 93 bmw e34 540i that had a slight coolant leak and a transmission on the way out, for a vw passat v6 wagon. Drove home 3 hours away no issues, 2 weeks later the VW transmission blows up. would have much rather paid for a v8 bmw trans rebuild than a crappy family car trans rebuild.
We're out here - I'm the same way. I sold a Ford Explorer for $300 because it wouldn't start and needed to be towed away. Basically almost scrap value. But I didn't want the guy buying it to think he was being screwed. Probably just needed a starter. I recently sold an Acura TL for $1,000 because I knew it needed new brake pads and rotors all around, and would probably need other minor repairs to keep it running well. I had just changed the oil, tranny fluid, hood lifts and spark plugs myself, and repaired the radiator reserve tank and cap myself. I even threw in all the transmission fluid I had for the car AND a long neck flexible funnel that would make adding fluid to the car easier. Same deal there, I wanted the guy that bought it to know as much about the state of the car as I did, and not feel like he was ripped off. I could have lied, said the car was tip top and sold it for $2,500. But a guy has to sleep at night.
Any project Hemi Superbird will be six figures. Hoovie got it for half price with plenty of room to pull the restomod stuff and go stock to increase value. Not sure why he’s complaining.
I've sold several cars on Bring-A-Trailer to buyers sight unseen and they each thanked me for my honestest and how I represented exactly what the car was. So calling them stupid shows you are stupid yourself.
I once went to look at a 66 mustang fastback. I had asked the seller about possibly driving it home (about 100 miles) and he replied that the car was absolutely drivable. I decided a trailer was a better idea so I rented a trailer and went to look at the car. It did run and it had all new front suspension but the seller was VERY reluctant to let me drive the car (he claimed he was worried about the tag and registration but he was also a local sheriffs deputy so I didn't think there would be a problem). I finally assured him there would be NO SALE at any price without driving the car. He agreed that I could drive the car if we remained inside his subdivision. The car wallowed around the road in desperate search of something to hit, I was terrified, and the further we went the worse it got. When we got back to his house I crawled under the car where I discovered the shock towers were rusted away. At that point he produced a catalog showing that you could buy every piece that was rusted, he KNEW what he was selling! What a rotten skunk! I had just wasted an evening towing a trailer that I wasted money to rent for 200 miles.
I had a similar experience with an old Volvo ( the ones from the 60s and 70s are getting a little bit collectible now ). Thankfully the valve covers are literally a few bolts and no obstructions, so it was easy to see the 3-4mm deep groves in the cams (it was developing NO power at all. Think go-kart levels at full throttle, and barely running) ... Rebuilding a 40 year old motor with absolutely no idea where to get parts from... hard pass. Most of the people who used to work on them are retired or dead by now. So.. rule #1, 2, and 3... drive it first or no money.
@@donotwantahandle1111 Sounds like you dodged a huge repair bill, then. Any reputable seller has paperwork and has no issues with you inspecting normal things.
Dude, I feel for you. I had a similar experience with my 68 Camaro. I knew the big block was tired, but I didn't realize how tired....replaced it with a GM ZZ454, and then I started spraying a fire hose of cash at it. I have basically replaced everything with top quality components.....so 4 years later I am at about the same money invested as I would have been starting with a proper car in the first place. I have since found out the shop was a "puppy mill" of hot rods. I will say this...the car is TRULY mine....through time, blood (literally), I have come to love it and not focus on being shaded, and I have learned a ton!
So let me summarize this. You got a cheap Camaro, that ended up needing work, and you spent the same amount as you would've spent buying one that had already been fixed up to begin with..? So... You lowballed a guy for a clunker expecting it to be a high dollar car...? That's how you come across..
One of the morals of this story is that Bring-a-Trailer is not a "reputable seller". It is an internet marketplace that differs from Craigslist only in the quality of the photos and the huge fee they charge. They are not a dealership and not warranting that the description is in any way accurate.
I was always taught in aviation, and advise my customers, to only spend 80% of your budget on your airplane. That way, if you do need to sort stuff out you still have 20% of the budget left. I apply this same process to my car purchases!
This is a good opportunity for BaT to really crack down on these sellers who don't engage or have a lack of information or documentation such as PPI. I used to think that if it was on Bat then it likely going to be a great buying experience. Now, not so much. Still a very cool car and Looking forward to seeing it completely sorted out.
One thing I’ve known for buying cars even though I’m a teenager, always buy with cash, and look at the car before you spend a dime on it, lots of people make the same stupid mistakes buying cars sight unseen, so yes it is Hoovies fault.
At abt 4 minutes “… So I asked the wife if I could buy a super bird and she said no, then I kept talking and then eventually she said yes.” The story of just about every car guy everywhere with a long suffering non-car wife!
I appreciate seeing this video. I bought a 79 Firebird Formula from Gateway Classic Cars Houston. There were a hundred pics and a video of it running and driving. The list of things wrong with this car that were not detectable unless you inspect it in-person is too long to list here. Will never make that mistake again.
Kinda sucks that when you are buying online you have to expect there to be some sort of lie that you have to expect with it. Just another example of people being shite people.
Been there sort of. Bought my 1974 Maverick Grabber from Arizona and I live in Ohio. Talked to the car lot and they didn't lie. The car had 90k original on it, had been painted once covering the stripe kit, was fully loaded including AC, PS, Disc brake, auto idle kickdown, trim package, seatbelt interlock the works. Little old lady who's husband owned it. That was true. He bought it for himself when he retired, and because he had a bad back ordered it with a super soft vinyl bench seat, rare option considering grabbers came with buckets, only a few hundred made in 74'. He died and she only drove it a few times and decided to sell it, local dealer helped her do that. Well, the story was true however none of the fluids in the car had ever been changed save for the oil, even then it was old and thin. The coolant had eaten up the aluminum to the point it was so soft I put my finger through the timing cover replacing hoses. it was the consistency of a cream on the inside. The thermactor emissions port had been blocked by a BB to keep it open but got sucked into the motor, so someone put another in it and it got sucked in. 2 BB's bouncing around cylinders.... The thermactor emissions had been partially removed from the exhaust and the car had no radio, radio antenna or horn button. The lot quick sprayed the car after I said I wanted it and lost the antenna, so they took out the radio to install a new one but I closed on the deal before they finished so they stopped working on it. I ended up just pulling the 302 out and swapping it for a fresh built 289 I did. When I took the heads off the 302 there were 2 cylinders with hundreds of BB craters in them with the BB embedded in the pistons. Glad I swapped the motor. Heck glad I only spent 2,800 dollars on an original Grabber in 2007! Now shes my pride and joy..
I don't know Hoovie personally, but he's likable and I've thoroughly enjoyed his content over the years. Anyone who would screw him over on purpose is just a craptastic human being. Not making accusations, just one man's assessment.
Hoovie knew this was a pile of shit kit car when he first saw it: it was bought specifically for the channel views, don’t try to convince me otherwise.
@@mysterycomment1553 This is what happens when a guy has obviously never gotten greasy or even done an oil change and all his knowledge is from watching videos and reading car magazines. His mechanic isn't much better. The "wizard" can figure out the most exotic Italian sportscar but can't figure out a Chrysler?
Saw an interview with ex Ford and BMC Motorsport Director Stuart Turner and he openly laughed at people who pay big money for old race cars. Reckons all the iconic cars go straight to the top collectors of kept by manufacturers and what's left has been been rebodied, VIN swapped to avoid taxes, plundered for parts, wrecked and so on and was basically junk the teams don't want any more.
I have restored former race cars and I can tell you that they are beaten to death. They have been modified hastily multiple times, often crashed and barely repaired. Engines have only been run hard and you will rarely find one with the original motor. People think it would be great to own a former race car, but it's the probably the worst car you could own. Nice to look at and brag about but don't expect to drive it
Everything on a rally car is aged, most mechanical parts are replaced for every event and body shell may last a season unless rolled. It's the nature of motor racing.
Yep, no one ever sells vehicles at a lower price when they work perfectly... he says he seen them selling for close to a million yet somehow expected a perfect one when he paid 130?
...not the ones I sold. The last one was a perfect 9 year-old Mazda 3S GT with 34,000 miles on it. The buyer received an excellent deal, and I soon after bought my new GR Supra.
Hello, crazy LeBaron guy here 👋 I actually told Mr. Hoovie in great detail all of the extensive issues with this car. He wasn’t listening to anything I was telling him, and was busy hopping around from LeBaron to LeBaron obsessing about wether each had the automated indicator voice or not and playing with all of the controls in each one.

I live in Arkansas. In 2000 I purchased a 1996 Impala Super Sport from a person in Canada...sight unseen other than picture. The car was listed as only having 6,000 miles. The process of importing the car was rather interesting but doable. I flew up to drive the car back to Arkansas and have to say the seller was every honest about the car...it was spotless and beautiful. Not a single rock chip or scratch anywhere! Car was unique due to Canadian market cars requiring some things the US market cars didn't have, such as daytime running lights.
We've probably all been there. Bought a Charger years ago before they went nuts, looked good, drove ok, got it home and started to go through it. Bondo, rust, cover ups, dodgy engine and transmission cover ups, you name it. Eventually we just trashed it as it was not even worth parting out, except for the trunk lid and a few interior pieces. Learnt my lesson. Thankfully. Now, the ego goes to one side and my mechanic has final say, and yes he is one of the good ones, abit like the Wizard. 🤟😎👍
Paid $200 for a 68 R/T Charger. Bought it for the windshield. Scrapped out the remainder. Recently saw one in MUCH worse shape that was just a stripped shell sell for $12,000. If we had a crystal ball how rich would we be?
If I purchased a 1970 Superbird that was gorgeous, I would expect that something would be wrong. Once you go through the details and return the car to a factory state (Except for the 528 Hemi!!!), you'll have a car that would sell for actual Superbird dollars. And you'll be ahead.
Had this kind of thing happen to me. I bought a '65 Rambler, "without rust, runs and drives" and it turned out to be a complete disaster. Almost everything in it needed to be rebuilt, and every body panel was full of Bondo. Buyer beware!
If you were actually stupid enough to buy a $130k car without getting the title for it first then what you get is on you! Before buying any classic car look it over "in" person, learn to read Vin codes and always make sure they have the clear and clean title for it.
I would watch the shit out of a racing series where they actually have to modify a regular production car to run a similar race. Can't do anything to the powertrain you can upgrade brakes and steering and wheels tires and add Safety Equipment otherwise everything is stock. Have the team purchased the car on a Monday and give them 2 weeks to prep it. Have the race the following Saturday. I would watch the absolute shit out of that.
We had racing like that in South Africa for a while. To keep the racers honest you could challenge someone else's car and it was compulsorily sold to you at the manufacturers recommended retail price plus the cost of a roll cage. But I have spent thousands on upgrades and mods was not accepted as an excuse for a higher price as doing that was against the regs!
@@andrewallen9993 I forgot about that. I should have said same brand should be allowed claimer rules. Is that series watchable anywhere? Like on TH-cam or something?
Any superbird for 130K is a good deal. Rusted out hulk junkers are bringing 50K right at this moment. Saw one pulled from a texas junkyard that was stripped and wrecked with none of the superbird parts on it still go for that much. If I bought this car I would have been expecting to sink another 20 to 30K minimum into getting it set up properly. As far as streetable a 528 is a pure 1/4 mile motor and is not meant for continuous street driving. A custom 4 core radiator with dual fans and custom shroud MIGHT keep it cool enough on non summer days.
When you get screwed over and ghosted by a seller like that, your only recourse is to take it to the courts. I used to do title work in Florida, and I once had a guy who bought a car off e-bay. It was a 68 Chevelle. I don't remember how much he paid for it. After he got the car the seller disappeared. Never got the title or a registration to prove the seller was the legal owner of the car and without either of those documents you can't take legal possession of a car. I helped him out as much as I could. It took him several months but he was eventually able to take legal ownership of the car.

You positioned yourself ahead of time to record the event . So, basically, you supported an individual who used a vehicle that was not his own, to perform a destructive action that resulted in 1. The vehicle being totaled. 2. Passengers lives being put at risk. 3. Innocent people having their property being destroyed. 4. Innocent property owners undergoing hardship when they just want to continue their normal lives getting to and from work and running errands. 5 Endangering the life of a person's pet. (Cat) You were okay with someone destroying another person's property. (No difference between a corporation's property or a private individual, maybe using an app, to reduce their car payments. Why? Because there isn't a difference. The Tesla wasn't his to destroy on a whim.) All this was just for views. Shame on you! Really! I cannot think of any action that would be more cruel. I have enjoyed your content. Content from others too! But my liked content didn't involve the destruction of anyone else's property, nor the damage of the property of innocent bystanders. Your glorification of such disregard of another's property is SHIT! Go on a rally. How would you feel when your fire farting Lambo is driven into a lake just for Shits and Giggles! If you buy a cheap resto mod.... a $600,000 car for $100,000 you have to expect to do some work on it. Looks like the car was original Super Bird, the body/paint seemed to be good (at least for a driver car). So you had some little things to fix? Boo Hoo. On a scale of 1-5, this scam is on the low end, maybe a 1.
Click bait , He was not scammed , He bought A resto mod that was not completed and assembled partially improperly . You got a real super bird for 1/10th its resale value . a 528 hemi is a 15k to 20k engine just by its self . < pre inflation . Listening to your tales of woe about the tuning is nothing short of ridiculous. Its a fast ecu . there is a ton of support for it . Struts and suspension would be a pain to get the right struts. But, with the right parts it will probably be yards better than the Chrysler front suspension that came under them. Those cheap ass Aero wheels should have given you a clue that there was a mix of cheap and pricey parts. you could have flown out there and inspected the car before purchase . Were you scammed ? NO . does it need work ? Of course. Resto mods can be full of bugs at first , It could be a case of passing on headaches as you said it went through a few purchasers who most likely couldn't figure out the ecu and cooling . So quit mewing like you have been burned . Now that you have made it public scored a bunch of money from TH-cam with your click bait titles . That the car itself generated . publicly fix it proper and you could make your money back easily. Get your snoopy friend's and start back searching its origins and see if you can find the original block. or a number coded match block and turn it back into a restoration. either way you won . sometimes your tails of woe are just so fake and contrived it is silly .

Man... that sucks... but as a car guy who has built a 76 vette fully restored, and a autoX mustang Cam C class, rebuilt a 97 7.3 f250 4x4... You NEVER buy something without going and looking/driving it, EVER Never buy it if they wont agree to a cold and hot start Never buy if the oil is fresh and clean, same for transmission fluid Will i go look at something and buy it on the side of the road from a total stranger? Absolutely... blew my dad's mind when i did that with my truck... doesnt matter, u have the title, bill and the major mechanical looks ok, and you can fix the rest
When it is fixed running right, even if you put 10 more grand into it to get it right. 140ooo in that condition. You aint hurt, look what you got. The seller knew he gave you a true classic that few could ever afford. Very lucky to get it.
Seems like a pretty nice car once you sort out the engine, suspension, and tune. I can see someone paying $130k or even more if it’s running perfectly just for how it looks and the nostalgia factor.
I bought a car about 450 miles away through Auto Trader and over-all it worked out okay. The seller was an adult and the description was pretty accurate. I had an inspection done before I flew to collect it but it hadn’t been driven at highway speeds. By the time I got home there was a CEL and the car needed coil packs (misfire) that didn’t show up in the inspection. After about three weeks of sorting things out (front control arms, headlight polishing, alignment, etc) the car is right as rain.
this purchase was probly the best thing that ever happened to him. he's got a frickin superbird now. he's got hours of content going over what a bad purchase it was. and when its all said and done he's started with a clean project. and its going to be super sorted out with absolutely no surprises to worry about when its done. I'd say its a win, win. if he was poor and couldn't afford it.. it would be sad. but realistically I was just listening to someone whine for the last 14 minutes about having my dream car. lol. and now my comment boosts this whole situation into the algorithm. triple win. lol.
Right on Sam. You get it. I don't care about it being on BAT or whatever. The whole Superbird thing was staged, concocted, and bullsh!t. I stopped watching his channel.
This sucks, or does it? You got what is about a $300,000 car when it is in daily driver condition for $130,000 you have to put in lets say $10,000 parts and labor plus $20,000 of your frustration. A total piece of junk with huge holes in it, dents all over and and engine and transmission that are locked up Super Bird would have cost you $50,000 and needed $150,000 to restore to daily driver condition. In the end you will have car that you can drive and enjoy for several years with a highly documented restoration polishing. Today it is awful, next year when you are on the open road without worry it will be amazing and worth it, in a few years when you finally sell it to that person, that just won't leave you alone, for way more than you have into it it will be happier than when you bought it because it will be going to a good home and you will not have sold them the car you bought.
I’ve had countless of times when looking for a classic car that the buyer tells me it’s absolutely mint and rustfree. Upon arriving I see a wreck where the only thing holding what’s left of the body to the frame is some ducttape work. I’ve seen countless cars that were just rotten, had an immense amount of body filler or had an engine that would not ever run right anymore. All of those had good pictures which didn’t show any of those issues. Moral of the story, be very careful when buying classic cars. Always ask about intricate details beforehand and always inspect the car before you buy it
Had a guy tell me a car had a dent in the rear drivers fender. Drive 2.5 hours there. The car had been ass packed and that fender wasn't dented it was buckled because the entire body was shifted over from the accident. I figured what the hell I'll use it for a driver if I get it real cheap. I literally offered him 30% of his asking price because he lied and he immediatly took it. 6 months later i was putting an engine in it because god knows who fixed an engine issue and blocked an oil passage so it ate up the cam.
@@gearjammergamer8560 such a classic thing. Those guys absolutely know what they are selling and are hoping that you'll simply buy the car because you drove so far. But what did you do with the engine? And is it running again?
@@dennis885600 Put a new engine in it. Drive it everyday. As far as car prices as of right now I got a good deal on it. Just had to swap the engine. It's never going to be 100% right due to the body being tweaked. Works great for a daily
How does a car guy like this get taken? And how does BAT allow vehicles to be listed if it’s not an accurate depiction? Guess it’s not the same BAT since it was sold to the new owners, even w/ the auction fee refund…. And the guy who sold it screwed up b/c he’s now getting outed by VW and Hoovie

If you wanted a resto-mod as opposed to original or NOS/restored, why not just buy an old but clean B-body and mod it to your liking? As much as this car was modified, adding a wing and nose to a Road Runner would not be worse. Unless it's from a known hot rod shop, or unless you know the builder, should pass. With a car like this, the only way to approach the deal is assuming a checkered build/past and/or, putting it on a 2-post with a tech who knows and spending hours going over it. Doing a VIN search etc. Better yet, locate a Super Bird expert and start a search. Last - You get what you pay for.
I know Hoovie has a website built around him getting screwed over, but this is just insane. How can anyone pay over $100K for a car and not pay someone a less then $100 for a PPI? Either he is a millionaire with tons of disposable cash or just stupid.
We had one of those Chryslers that talked. Stupid thing said "Your engine oil pressure is low prompt service is required" constantly no matter how full it was or how new the oil pump/pressure sensor was. It also said "please fasten your seatbelts" constantly too.
Maybe if he took the suit off and put on Levis pants with a T-shirt and a pair of work boots and maybe gloves to protect the manicured hands, using a bright flashlight he could have crawled around under the car as far as possible for inspecting the high priced car that he is willing to gamble spending high end money. Better yet, he could pay the money for an expert car appraiser to inspect the car while giving a complete factual analysis on the cars originality and value. Gambling with purchases such as this should always have a second expert opinion on the car
"Partial re-body" ?? I'm one hundred percent sure that's a vin-swap to an entirely different replacement body shell. I highly doubt there's a single screw coming from the original car.
That is what I though when I first saw this car. It doesn't even have the braces under the wings. I'm betting the car is really a satellite with the vin swapped, and the original car was probably rusted and junked. I bet the original 426 is long gone and that is why it has a newer crate engine.
The balls on this seller if he knows who Tyler is and who is audience is...talk about insane! You guys are better people than I am, I would have at least put out his name on blast.
If you want a perfect car, or the seller to 'make it right' when something goes wrong shortly after the sale then you should be buying a new car with a warranty.
@@alexnone5720 Where do you get this BS from, if you want a perfect car and buy a new car & warranty crap from what I posted above? First off the car is a classic muscle car, you are never getting a new one of those; and back then they had what they called a tail light warranty. I am referring to proper disclosure, it's a lot like being honest. This no $5K hoopty, this car owner was asking shy of $150K for this car, and usually at that price things are disclosed or lawyers get involved in court. There are some states where this is law already...for absolutely no reason at all, right? Not to mention lemon laws for new cars too because even new cars can be total POS as well and warranty won't save you from them. @@sickjohnson you expect honesty from a used car salesman? The seller didn't ask for the 130k or whatever it went for, people bid it up that high. Maybe the people that stopped bidding knew something that Hoovey didn't. Especially if he (by that I mean the right person) sorts out and pretty's up the wiring. Make this a one footer and he won't lose. Tyler likes to play like he has no clue, but in reality, he's pretty savvy (or lucky) - pretty sure he did some mental math on this purchase to ensure he wouldn't go too far underwater if it went south before putting his bid in..
YES! I bought a 79' 300 and seller told me it was near perfect condition. When is was dropped it a nearly a complete wreck. Bad tire, wipers' did not work, dash lights didn't work, AC non operational even after he told he would replace the compressor, plugs and wire shot and list goes on. He hooked me in by telling what a good Christian he was... And it goes on. Ended up giving it to my friend for a third of price.. He is whipping in to shape.
I think he comes across as a great guy. Doug Tabbutt is much more weasel like than Hoovie LOL. No offence Doug but you must admit being a used car salesman requires at least some weasel DNA
"There's was nothing I could do with the car, so I ended up digging a hole and burying it." Said with a completely straight face, as if that's completely normal.
I was a teenager when these came out. The car mags said they overheated on the street, because the air intake for the radiator was so small - it was meant to work at 180mph, not 70mph.
It's mainly his own fault, he bought an old car sight unseen off BAT from shifty seller who wasn't answering questions FROM THE BEGINNING. While the car was being auction. You know how many times I wanted to buy a car I thought was a steal but refrained bc it was a non-communicating seller!?
The guy sold this smoke and mirrors job to the one guy that was actually going to drive it. If he sold this to a regular collector, none of this would have come up.
That's true!
Bring A Trailer 🤣🤣🤣
Why would they not drive it? It’s not original in any sense of the word
@Andrew Ladzun because it’s not a roadworthy car it has to be towed, Bring A Trailer
It fooled him, it would probably have gotten me too.
the "beep-beep" not working... unforgivable!
Wasn’t too bad, what he ended up putting back into it. And again, even with its bad history, prices still going up
well keep in mind not having the original motor is a big big deal and it had been a partial rebody
No doubt about it. As a "car guy" he should have known better
The seller was probably nervous and sweating seeing that Tyler Hoover was the winning bidder…realizing that EVERY issue with the car would be all over TH-cam
Guy was likely too dumb to put it together.
I doubt he cares too much $130k for car being talked about on TH-cam?
Based on what Tyler tells us all in this video the seller shouldnt have been nervous but laughing because he knew he had a sucker on the way to pick it up. Invest in a magnet, NEVER buy a car sight unseen online and take an expert on that car with you to inspect it. Richard Rawlings KNOWS how to flip cars and NEVER has to ask his wife if he can buy it.
Yea but Tyler isn't the type of guy who is going to put the guys name out there
Tyler didn't even name it in the video, and he made 130K over a shitty car.

Preach they’re the worse
If I was spending 100k plus, I would fly out with a mechanic and have an inspection. Especially if it’s listed as t-boned.
Exactly, hard to believe he didn't appreciate the red flag warnings.
makes you wonder what kind of financial world we live in that people are willing to write a $140G check off of pictures, I guess he really wanted it that bad. I guess money means too much to me. The part that gets me is what is a Superbird really worth without the original engine? I've never wanted a rolling cartoon to drive around town in so I guess i'll never find out.
Honestly for that price especially, I would want the car anyways, still would be nice to know though

Nah.. I'm with you on the selling. But I've never been ripped off buying 'cause I buy so so low (not in 2022 of course!!!)
Same here man.

I have since found out the shop was a "puppy mill" of hot rods. I will say this...the car is TRULY mine....through time, blood (literally), I have come to love it and not focus on being shaded, and I have learned a ton!
Sometimes that’s what it’s all about!
So let me summarize this. You got a cheap Camaro, that ended up needing work, and you spent the same amount as you would've spent buying one that had already been fixed up to begin with..?
So... You lowballed a guy for a clunker expecting it to be a high dollar car...? That's how you come across..

Honestly bring back the old NASCAR rules... That's why Rally is still awesome, they still have minimum production requirements

Sir,
I used to wait on you at a restaurant in Atlanta. You were always a kind gentleman, you tipped well, and even though you were so tall you couldn't fit under the tables, forcing us servers to reroute around you, you were well liked by all the staff. You were a true pleasure to serve!
I have recently learned about the "Tesla Jump" and Alex Choi's role in the act. I was disappointed in his role in that video going viral. Below is what I have commented on his videos about that role he played. Thank you for listening and thank you for being a genuinely nice person in real life!
Mr. Choi,
I so enjoy many atuomotive TH-camr postings. It depresses me to state that you have become my first to be blacklisted in my mind. Your content about the Tesla going airborne was in so many ways outside what I believe the community is about. Yes, you were not the driver. Thank you! However, you were present. You positioned yourself ahead of time to record the event . So, basically, you supported an individual who used a vehicle that was not his own, to perform a destructive action that resulted in
1. The vehicle being totaled. 2. Passengers lives being put at risk. 3. Innocent people having their property being destroyed. 4. Innocent property owners undergoing hardship when they just want to continue their normal lives getting to and from work and running errands. 5 Endangering the life of a person's pet. (Cat)
You were okay with someone destroying another person's property. (No difference between a corporation's property or a private individual, maybe using an app, to reduce their car payments. Why? Because there isn't a difference. The Tesla wasn't his to destroy on a whim.)
All this was just for views.
Maybe insurance even decides not to reimburse you because they say you thought it was okay so that you could get TH-cam views. (Which puts zero $'s back into your pockets to continue the loan payments.) Good luck with that claim!
Correct this disaster. Call out the crap person who performed this stunt. Help out your own community. Redeem yourself!
Cool story bro
Ok what THEE fuck are you talking about?!?!
8:45 When your planning on possibly paying that much for a car, why not pay just a little more to have a vehicle inspector look it over first!
Good on BaT to do what they could to "make things right". Even better it was sold to someone who could "make money" off the deception....so it's not that bad of a hit. From what I've seen, when this Superbird is done, it's going to be pretty bad aZZ!! Well it already is, but when it's fully running right....that's what I'm saying. Vroommm!!
Sorry, but the old saying "BUYER BEWARE!" applys to buying any vehicle. If you can't test drive / inspect a vehicle, walk away.
The first time I saw this car, the $90 wheels on it told me everything I needed to know about it. Literally the biggest red flag I've ever seen on a vehicle in my entire career. 🤣
Yup.......the body color roll bar was my 2nd flag 😉👍
Um...
Firstly Hoovie put them on, secondly they are $186.99 each not $90, and if you cant even get that right what credibility have you got?
Thirdly, Aero's have been good enough for Nascar for the last 40 years so they fit the theme of the car.
Lastly this thing, even if it was burnt out sitting on the bottom of a lake is better than that pile of shite Trans Am.....

And the difference between a Trans Am and this Superbird, is you can get in the Trans Am and drive 1000 miles coast to coast, looking good and having fun, instead of dragging it to 10 different shops every time it breaks down and having to explain why your $130000 dollar car has wagon wheels and a Jeep CJ7 roll bar in it. 🤣

Hey Tyler, so enjoy watching your channel, but feel your pain at all these scams! At one time (before yours), the most feared comment a business owner could hear was: "Hi, I'm Mike Wallace from 60 Minutes".

LMAO...BAHAHA

They need to put the seller on blast to protect other people
If you wanted a resto-mod as opposed to original or NOS/restored, why not just buy an old but clean B-body and mod it to your liking? As much as this car was modified, adding a wing and nose to a Road Runner would not be worse. Unless it's from a known hot rod shop, or unless you know the builder, should pass. With a car like this, the only way to approach the deal is assuming a checkered build/past and/or, putting it on a 2-post with a tech who knows and spending hours going over it. Doing a VIN search etc. Better yet, locate a Super Bird expert and start a search. Last - You get what you pay for.
I feel for you pal. You should call out that seller though. There might be other potential victims out there that need to avoid him.
I know Hoovie has a website built around him getting screwed over, but this is just insane. How can anyone pay over $100K for a car and not pay someone a less then $100 for a PPI? Either he is a millionaire with tons of disposable cash or just stupid.
